the north bay after a boat catches on fire in the car. keen as bay. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. it is sunday september. the 17th. let's get your day started with a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning well. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and we're dealing with that morning fog again. but it's still on the mild side. it looks like particularly up in the north bay that we're seeing in some of the camera shots, not quite the same as yesterday. >> so again, where do the same kind of drill we did yesterday except maybe back off and those inland temperatures just a hair. you'll see all this in the breakdown right now. quick check with san jose state. you can see off towards the distance there to see some breaks actually happening there. so the fog hasn't been as aggressive this morning as we saw from yesterday here. we still have the churning. will cut off low off to see here providing the necessary left in the marine layer and all that jazz speaking of which

what's the fog do again, if it's the problematic areas, it will linger a bit. but it's seems to clear out at the surface pretty quickly, even in some of those valleys. we're looking a lot of 60's to start things off in the east bay like yesterday up in the north bay, lower 60's were so warmer this morning. little cooler down south by comparison. 61, san francisco, 64 san jose. here are the actual look at the numbers were trailing by a few degrees to the south. ahead, a few degrees up north. so your breakdown today got to keep those scattered clouds and there even inland with high temperatures, very modest middle 70's as we get kind of little flavor of fall coming our way. kind of a missing week. coming up our way, we'll have more in forecast a bit, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for that. >> in the south bay, one person is dead after being hit by a car in san jose. it happened just before 8 o'clock last night near the intersection of quimby road and south white road traffic was impacted in the area for several hours. in the north bay, a boat in the car. tina's bay catches on fire with passengers on board kron four's. amanda hari spoke with

witnesses. >> black smoke billowing from the grand romance, riverboat docked on the car. keane is bay in valais. whoa, i think across town but i seen the flames and smoke from way across for chavez rush to during lemon streets to see what was going on. >> it's all everything is was all-black. i was wow, there's a lot of people that stayed on that. lot of people stay on that boat and hope nobody got >> fire says they got the call around 4.50. they can see the pillar of smoke while in route and upgraded to a full arm response. they had to take a defensive approach from land because the boat is sinking. they were unable to board the boat until the fire was out. there were 4 people on it at the time of the fire to rescue themselves. 2 were assisted by a good samaritan before vallejo fire arrived. the fire department says people may have been living on the boat thing is how there were people on the boat at the time and has been an abandoned boat for

many years. quite possible police had to come back after someone got back on the boat. >> and refused to leave. they had to tase the man and carry him off. chavez says the owner of the grand romance and hope to fix the boat before the fire like left here. they were going to restore it. but i guess they just left just slowly started sinking in the water and people just live dot as it went. there were no injuries. fire says it's still under investigation. >> and they'll release the cause at a later time in vallejo amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> and police are investigating a pair of deadly shootings in oakland. the first happened around 9.45. friday night near the intersection of 38th avenue and macarthur boulevard in the city's laurel district. officers found a person suffering from at least one gunshot wounds. the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died. then early saturday morning, another deadly shooting. this one on 12th street right by lowell park. police say they found 2

people shot. one of them died at the scene. the second person was taken to a hospital where they are now in stable condition. no arrests have been made in either shooting. in the north bay. a busy weekend night for the san francisco rather. the sandra fell police department officers responding to shootings, stabbings and a deadly crash after a guatemalan independence day event on friday about 15 of the minutes after the gathering ended at northgate mall. police say a very different kind of event started in the canal neighborhood. sandra fell. police say hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people took over the streets with sideshows and then around 10:20pm, officers found a 25 year-old man who'd been shot twice. he was taken to the hospital. his condition is unknown at this time. then about 2 hours later, police say a fight broke out. a 24 year-old man was stabbed and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. then at one 30 saturday morning, another shooting.

police say a 20 year-old man was shot somewhere in sandra fell and took himself to the hospital. re was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries. also in sandra fell. 2 people are dead after a car crashed into a canal. that happened 7 o'clock saturday morning. police say say witnesses saw a car drive down canal street and into the water at about 70 miles per hour. first responders pulled 2 people from the submerged vehicle. unfortunately, both victims died. police believe alcohol was a factor. but the investigation is ongoing. on the peninsula. police arrested a robbsuspect saturday. investigators say the victim was robbed of his backpack after a brief struggle with the robber who carried a pipe and a knife. it happened around 11:00am county road in san carlos. the suspect is believed to have swung at the victim, but did not injure them. >> and happening right now, police in millbrae looking for a group of people who robbed 2 teens at gunpoint at a high school. >> it happened late friday. a mills high. police say 3 teens

approached the victims wearing ski masks. the group demanded the victim's cell phones. nobody was physically injured. and oakland police are investigating a domestic disturbance after a lengthy standoff late friday night. this happened on outlook avenue near mills college. police say they responded to reports of a domestic dispute. standoff officers were able to safely take the man into custody. no injuries reported. pablo police are warning the public about ongoing scams. they shared an example on the department's facebook page. you can hear an officer confronting a suspected scammer. take a listen. this again? >> the u.s. are already service will change. i tower lieutenant hightower. it's great begin with. >> this is sergeant hands to this and probably department.

>> here's the backstory to how this call happened to officers from the department. we're at a gas station where they ran into a man who thought he was being scammed. he said he got a call from a blocked number. the caller accused the man for missing jury duty. the scammer then told the man he could pay off his warrant by sending bitcoin to the scammer. the scammer kept the man on the line for over an hour and a half. while the man was directed to the gas station to get point. luckily, these officers right there on your screen there. they were at the right place at the right time to stop any sort of transaction and they are reminding the public that officers or police will never ask for money over the phone to clear any sort of warrants. if you think you've been scammed, call your local police department. >> happening right now, the mermaid run is happening in san francisco and hundreds of runners are lacing up their shoes for 5 k 10 k and 10 mile races, even just is live for us in san francisco this morning. speaking with runners and it's incredible how early

that's for boys and and what else is going on because they see a lot of tents set up is or additional events going on today. i'm not really additional events, but just we want people to cross the finish line and feel celebrated and feel like there's a festive area for them to hang out. we want them to feel like olympic so we try to, you know, do a big expo and have a lot of tense encourage people to hang out and we have food and things like that. and that is to the right of us, right? okay. just over my shoulder. good, my understanding. and just learning more about this race. it really is about setting a great atmosphere for racers, maybe. >> they're big in beginners you know, they just like to run on their free time. this is just kind of setting a great atmosphere. >> yeah, i mean, that's, you know, kind of why i started the mermaid series was just the whole atmosphere of having women sort of it's very encouraging. we have a lot of beginners to come out. we have a lot of walkers joggers and then they turn into runners

navigation. the boe is embarking on a on a four-year voyage of the pacific ocean that started in alaska in the summer time. the canoe plans to stop and nearly 100 indigenous territories. the goal is to educate people about the importance of caring for the planet and build connections between indigenous communities across the pacific ocean. >> for us at polynesian voyaging it's just about connecting with people. it's a learning journey sharing. i missed a rent or not. we don't have all of question of all the answers. nobody really has all the answers. but i think collectively. if you keep talking about it, you find the past. >> and the hokulea will be docked in sausalito until next weekend. so you some time to see it. there. then the crew crosses the bay to visit san francisco. so you have a chance to see the boat soon in san francisco as well. they'll hold a free event in aquatic park on sunday september. the

on in the east bay up to the north bay, mostly lower 60 61, san francisco. 64 for san jose. back to future cast. take care of that morning. fog like a little flare up of some showers up there in the hills and the mountains bu monday morning. we do the same thing with the fog. that's going to be typical to cut the morning or the early a part of the week with the flare up in the afternoon. now, this is going to get more active towards wednesday thursday as that low starts to to kind a little dance around us, if you will, to. this is our they wait all the way to wednesday. well, a little slide. the background went behind us it when gone. but just pretend there's a nice scenery. there does paint your own background pesky bay fogs snow clouds still working, cool near about 80 inland. we're talking upper 70's on this mild and sunny. got to say it's 70's going on for the bay and near 80 happening inland. this means monday into tuesday. then it gets interesting for wednesday, thursday. we have some scattered clouds again, monsoon question, mark. we might be getting some of that moisture. middle layers of the atmosphere kind of thing coming in from the southeast.

that's that low. that's looking for moisture. we just talked about that may be a player again wednesday thursday, although it doesn't is going directly impact us as much as say, the mountain. 68 san francisco today got the variable clouds mild. 71 for open 71 77, rather for san jose, although they're doing a great clear up job and your high temperatures, upper 70's in the far east bay. and we've got a hodgepodge of 70's up in the north bay. and again, stephanie, looking out for wednesday thursday to see if we get any that monsoon moisture await the only concern with that always is is dry lightning instability. so we don't want instability and that mid-level moisture. that's a no no cause. yet the ice crystals rubbing up against each other and they can a party and that's not good. so that's we're looking out for. but in the next week, it looks kind of interesting something out of the gulf of alaska, too. so we'll see if the ok? all right. thanks for keeping an eye on it for alright. >> well, a warning the next time you use your computer researchers in the uk claim. >> artificial intelligence can guess your password just by listening while you type it.

news nation's brooke shafer has more on what you can do to keep your passwords safe. >> artificial intelligence ai has changed the game in some ways for the better helping scientists conduct faster research, even helping doctors diagnose patients. but an alarming new study found artificial intelligence can also steal your passwords by listening to your keystrokes. >> what we've proven is that the model like this can recognize what key you press quite well. joshua harrison is one of the researchers who tested this at durham university in the uk. they ran experiment on a popular computer, a mac book pro 16 inch laptop. >> they used an ai device to listen to keystrokes the model learning the sound each letter on the keyboard. what they found harrison said was quite surprising. the model we create classifies tiki strikes

the largest corgi event in northern california. happened saturday in the east bay corgi con which celebrates the cattle herding brought dog breed unfolded at the alameda county fairgrounds in pleasanton activities included the popular corgi race. a corgi ninja warrior obstacle course. and according costume contest. let's take a look at those dogs event. organizers say that the turnout was more than expected. >> today's attendance was amazing. it was over 5,000 almost certainly the largest sporting on the west >> there was just band. it was very positive. high energy and just all the people love corgis come out. that's really why we do it. and just really appreciate all the support that the community, the core

let's to about 74. still going to keep some scattered clouds and they're just for good measure. but essentially you'll see a lot of sunshine going on at the ballpark for the oakland a's versus the padres 107, game time. upper 60's. pretty much for your temperatures. west-southwest winds near about 10 and a bit. we'll check in the 4 zone forecast and the extended stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for that update. >> now to a major story we're following out of southern california, a los angeles county sheriff's deputy has died following an ambush style shooting. that deputy was on duty at the time. investigators say the shooter was driving past the deputy in the opposite direction when they opened fire. the deputy identified as ryan clayton brummer had just gotten engaged earlier this week. investigators do not have a suspect at this time. oakland restaurant is burglarized for the 3rd time this year. marzano on park boulevard had their front door smashed in and thousands of dollars stolen friday morning. the burglar smashed thehglass on

the front door, causing thousands of dollars in damages. they also took the safe. the break-in comes after we learned oakland city leaders missed a deadline to get crucial police funding. >> we don't have enough things we don't have, you know, enough prosecution is no deterrent. i can sleep at night as a business up i go home and i'm thinking about my business when i'm my business, i'm thinking about my i just don't think it's way of life. >> the restaurant's owner says that she is pretty frustrated that city leaders miss the opportunity to get money to help fight crime. she says she has thought of closing her business for good. and happening today, a heads up for people living in berkeley. the city is testing its new outdoor warning system. emergency sirens for the first time at noon o'clock. at noon, noon o'clock. i am noon excuse me of these are designed to alert people to life-threatening emergencies like wildfires and tsunami and

anyone within about a half mile of a siren should expect to hear a chime. marin county's covid-19. cases are down after a surge in infections over the summer. that's according to marine health and human services while infection rates have dwindled. county health officials warn that cases have gone up in previous years in october, people are advised to get updated booster shots ahead of a potential winter surge. california is suing 5 of the largest petroleum companies in the world. the state is accusing gas and oil giant. exxonmobil shell, chevron, conoco phillips and british petroleum. the state claims the companies knew the consequences of burning fossil fuels but downplayed those dangers to pursue record-breaking profits. the seeks to create a fund paid for by the companies to pay recovery efforts following storms and wildfires. in a statement, shell said that it agrees that the at more action is needed on climate change. but said that the courtroom is not the proper place to

see them so quickly running and hiding was amazing to us. so quite happy. >> every week about 700 pounds of food is hidden. while the cubs are in their den, they have to learn to find the food the way wild bears do when there's not a dumpster or refrigerator around. >> they get food rewards based working for it like climbing a tree moving a rock or digging out underneath that felled finding at ditch, you know, finding food in places so that they learn how forage and that they learn how to get a food reward based on not just having it set out there by a garbage can you know how they would really actually have that happen in the wild. and the other part of it, which is pretty amazing is that there's not human interaction with these bears right now. they actually need to re-learn a fear of humans, which they do here as well. >> hank, the tank has been renamed henrietta, but the fish and wildlife. she's called 64 f she's doing well

now and her new home at a sanctuary in colorado. she is going to live out the rest of her life in a sanctuary which is actually not ideal either. >> the best place for wild animals in the wild. and so what we really need to do as humans is to avoid any kind of conflict. it's going to get them to someplace like 64 is in. >> some wonder why she was taken from her cubs. there's been huge public interest and the a lot of people are really concerned to see. you know how i've been asked a lot about how rehabilitation works. i've been asked a lot about the separation from the mother and a lot of that is just people humanizing that thinking that, you know, those traits are like human traits. but really what the goal is here is for these comes to be rehabilitated so that they can go back out to the wild. and 64 that's just not an option to her because of the fact that there's just long history of conflict. >> meanwhile, sonoma county wildlife rescue broke ground on a new larger their facility, the size of a football field. it will even feature a waterfall and pool where the cubs comer to fish.

>> this morning on the kron 4 morning news violence in oakland as police investigate 2 deadly shootings that happened just hours apart and scary moments in the north bay after a boat catches on fire in the coaching as bay. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it's sunday, september 17. let's get your day started with a look at the weather with dave sphar a a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and off to a nice start. so we have a temperatures pretty mild going on. actually little bit warmer up in the north bay this morning we saw from yesterday. we still have that morning fog in the clouds and all that business. we still got to keep it as a mention of the forecast. here's sfo. >> last hour, we have mentioned this how things have opened up and then you see they fill back in again. that will be kind of the incident that will happen to be in the morning hours throughout the morning hours. we still have a

low off to see. it doesn't have much moisture which to play with and will be a player later on in this weekly forecast. we get to wednesday thursday, but it's really going to be a factor for those folks up in tahoe. a look at what happens with our fog of the ground. fog mixes up pretty quickly, but again, will be an issue along the coast. so you may see mostly cloudy skies going on even this afternoon, although most of the rest of the bay goes into mostly sunny on balance, at least for the afternoon hours, lower 60's for the east bay up to the north bay. lower 60's mirrored here as well. 64, for example, san jose. but here's the contrast for you. couple degrees ahead. as you can see up north and pretty much on target in the east as well as the south. so the breakdown today about 69 by high noon to 3. 76, just a mention of some scattered clouds in there for good measure. it looks like we're going to be in kind of this goldilocks pattern for just about the whole week except for the interference of this low. we'll get more into that coming up in a bit. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> in the south bay, one person is dead after being hit by a car in san jose. it happened just before 8 o'clock

last night near the intersection of quimby road and south white road traffic was impacted in the area for several hours. in the north bay, a boat in the cartoon as big catches on fire with passengers on board kron four's. amanda hari spoke with witnesses. >> black smoke billowing from the grand romance, riverboat docked on the car. keane is bay in valais. whoa, i think across town but i seen the flames and smoke from way across for chavez rushed to during lemon streets to see what was going on. >> it's all everything is was all-black. i was wow, there's a lot of people that stayed on that. lot of people stay on that boat and hope nobody got >> fire says they got the call around 4.50. they could see the pillar of smoke while in route and upgraded to a full arm response. they had to take a defensive approach from land because the boat is sinking. they were unable to board the boat until the fire was out. there were 4 people on it at the time of the fire to rescue

themselves. 2 were assisted by a good samaritan before vallejo fire arrived. the fire department says people may have been living on the boat thing is how there were people on the boat at the time and has been in the band and vote for many years. quite possible police had to come back after someone got back on the boat. >> and refused to leave. they had to tase the man and carry him off. chavez says the owner of the grand romance and hope to fix the boat before the fire left here. they were going to restore it, but i guess they just left it it just slowly started sinking in the water and people just live dot as it went. there were no injuries. fire says it's still under investigation. >> and they'll release the cause at a later time in vallejo amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> police are investigating a pair of deadly shootings in oakland. the first happening around 9.45 friday night near the intersection of 38th avenue and macarthur boulevard in the city's laurel district.

officers found a person with at least one gunshot wound. the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died. then early saturday morning, another deadly shooting. this one on 12 street right by lowell park. police say they found 2 people shot. one of them died at the scene. the second person was rushed to a hospital where they are now in stable condition. no arrests have been made in either shooting. in the north bay. a busy weekend for the sandra fell police department officers responding to shootings, stabbings and a deadly crash after a guatemalan independence day event on friday. about 15 minutes after the gathering add ended at northgate mall. police say a different kind of event started in the canal neighborhood. sandra fell. police say hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people took over the streets with sideshows around 10:20pm, officers found a 25 year-old man who'd been shot twice. he was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown at this time. about 2 hours later, police say a fight

broke out. a 24 year-old man was stabbed and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. and then at one 30 saturday morning, another shooting. police say a 20 year-old man was shot somewhere in sandra fell. he took himself to the hospital and was treated for a non-life-threatening injury. also, sandra fell. 2 people are dead after a car crashed into a canal. it happened set 7 o'clock saturday morning. police say witnesses saw a car drive down canal street and into the water at about 70 miles per hour. first responders pulled 2 people from the submerged car. both victims died. police believe alcohol was a factor. but the investigation is ongoing. on the peninsula. police arrested a robbery suspect saturday. investigators say the victim was robbed of his backpack after a brief struggle with the robber who carried a pipe and a knife. it happened around 11:00am on old county road in san carlos. the suspect is believed to have swung at the victim but did not injure that. happening

now, police in millbrae looking for a group of robbers who threatened to teens at gunpoint. it happened late friday at mills high school. police say 3 teens wearing ski masks approached the victims. the robbers demanded the victim's cell phones. nobody was physically injured. oakland police are investigating a domestic disturbance after a standoff late friday night. this happened on outlook avenue near mills college. police say they responded to reports of a domestic dispute. the man was said to be armed and barricaded with other people inside of the home after a standoff officers were able to safely take the man into custody. no injuries reported police are warning the public about ongoing scams and they shared an example on the department's facebook page and we can hear an officer confronting a suspected scammer. take a listen. is again. sorority service will change. i tower. >> lieutenant hightower. it's great begin with.

>> this is sergeant hands to this and probably department. >> here's the back story to this video. basically 2 officers from the department, they were at a gas station when they read into a man who said he was being scammed. he said he got a call from this block number. but you see on your screen there. the caller accused the man who own this phone for missing jury duty. the scammer then told the man that he could pay off his warrant by sending bitcoin to the scammer. the scammer then kept the man on the line for over an hour and a half. while the man was directed to the gas station to get coin. luckily, these officers happened to be at the gas station and they were there to stop the transaction and they are now reminding the public that police will never ask for any money over the phone with a wave, a warrant. if you think you've been scammed, make sure you reach out to local police department. they say. happening right now, the mermaid run is happening in san francisco. hundreds of racers are lacing up their shoes for 5 k and 10 k races.

here. no delays being reported out sfo. so another nice start to your weekend day. some sun trying to peer in through with lots zoom, didn't just a little bit as what we did. all right. showing you this shot here. we're going to be using this imagery a lot as we head into the winter months because this is the highway for most of our winter storms. i mention that because next week looks kind of interesting. actually, that's not this weekend here. the following week because the middle part there, some storm systems don't quite make. it may be in the bay area, but they're getting awfully close and we'll show up in our region, which is pretty nice for late september. lower 60's cover much of those inland valleys in the east bay along the east bay shoreline were in the lower to middle 60's, lower 60's up north and up here in the north bay. that's a bit more mild than what you saw yesterday morning. 64 for san jose. 61. meanwhile for san francisco chilly 55 half moon bay. so this fog we get taken care of today. still keeping a few little scattered clouds just for good measure. in our forecast, that will flare up with some afternoon showers in the mountains. can't rule out.

not really putting in as a formality in the tahoe forecast, buo to the south might see it return the fog monday morning again mixes out to essentially mostly sunny days. and again, you see the flare up of some afternoon showers. that's going to be more active wednesday and thursday and probably impacting tahoe potentially 2 toda . we have that pesky bay fog and clouds, which we can see here in the east bay shoreline. cool near about 80 going on inland for highs, but really mostly upper 70's at work here early into the week. it's mild and sunny with 70's covering the bay near about 80 going on in london. then late in the week. this is what we're mentioning here wednesday thursday as this low starts to tap into some moisture towards our south, throwing back. excuse me, some potential mid-level moisture in the at some heating and instability. that's when you can sometimes get some dry lightning. that's the whole big deal about that is 68 san francisco variable clouds to make note of for oakland got 71 pretty good for the ball game this afternoon. 77 meanwhile for san jose upper 70's you can see far east bay

that's according to marine health and human services while infection rates have dwindled. county health officials warn that cases have gone up in previous years in october, people are advised to get updated booster shots ahead of a potential winter surge. california is suing 5 of the largest petroleum companies in the world. the state is accusing gas and oil giants. exxon mobil shell shell, chevron, local phillips and british petroleum. the state claims the companies knew the consequences of burning fossil fuels but downplayed those dangers to pursue record-breaking profits. the suit seeks to create a fund paid for by these companies to pay for recovery efforts following storms and wildfires. in a statement, shell said it agrees that action is needed on climate change. but said the courtroom is not the proper venue to address global warming. meantime, the american petroleum institute called this lawsuit a waste of taxpayer resources. and a

>> all right, dave, thank you. september is suicide prevention awareness month as students head off to school for the first time return to life on campus. some might feel overwhelmed by the pressure. but health experts want you to know that it's ok and important to reach out for help. joining us live now to share more about this important topic in ways we can practice self care is pamela or and kaiser permanente. clinical psychologist, thank you so much for joining us this morning. thanks for having and we're so glad that you're here to talk about this very important issue. this is a problem that's affecting many people. can you walk us through the gravity of it and what sort of situation kaiser's seen? yeah. >> so suicide is now the second leading cause of death for all people age 10 to 34 and is a huge from what we've seen in previous years. so what kaiser's to him about it is we both integrating mental health professionals into primary care. so we're trying to catch people when they come

in the and then we're also providing increased support to our patients who do reach out for help. >> and what would you say are some of the driving factors that you've seen when it comes to people reaching out for that the driving factors include things like isolation, social withdraw. there may be especially in college kids since can of what we're talking about. the parents often get concerned about their child, who is a college and they assist in getting them the support that they need for their mental health team. and >> what are some of the warning signs that? >> parents, friends, maybe even teachers should be looking out for among when it comes to maybe somebody potentially wanted to hurt themselves. lots of warning signs to look at. the first one is withdraw. so if you have youth who used to be very engaged lots of extracurricular activities. and then you start to see them withdrawing more into their rooms, becoming more isolated, not wanting to go out with friends. that's a big one.

depressed mood, anxiety, drug and alcohol use can also be an indicator. things like that. and what are some signs that people should be looking for in themselves when it comes to? maybe wondering if somebody is wondering. if they might be showing signs of depression as well, because sometimes it can kind of hard to put a finger on it. it can be hard to tell. yeah. so we asked the people really kind of reflect my feeling depressed. do i feel really my not having the energy that i used to have are things not bringing joy that used to bring me, joy. those are all really good indicators for oneself around depression and you know, mental health of the value of it, it's become it's becoming more comfortable for people to talk about it. but i. >> i do believe that there is still a bit of a stigma that exists. what with people? taking that brave step of reaching out to somebody and say, hey, i think i might need some additional support here.

so what is the guidance that you can offer when it comes to somebody who might feel a little bit hesitant or they don't know exactly how to start that conversation. thanks for and this is such a crucial topic. i'm so grateful that we are talking about mental health. more and there are so many more resources available to our patients. we just opened or not we but the national suicide hotline. number 9, 8, 8, is resource that's available. 24 7 for our patients. there's also texting mind. so for our youth who often don't want to talk to someone but are very well versed in texting, they can text 7, 4, 1, 7, 4, one. and there's a trained professional to answer their questions and to provide support. 24 hours a day. and what are some easy steps that people can take today if they're feeling maybe depressive said symptoms or a lot of stress, anxiety. is there some sort of way that they can easily reframe how they're thinking about their

day-to-day or just general self-care exercises that you recommend self-care is so important. so we really encourage people to do things like exercise that we know that that releases endorphins and can help with depressive episodes. also getting out and forcing oneself to be a little more social. we know that. you know, especially for the pandemic when we were forced to be home, we lost so much. and so really kind of diving deep and and forcing yourself to go out and be social with people and then, of course, reaching out for support and for help. so now all of our primary care physicians are are much better versed in mental health concerns and can help get a patient to where they need to if they present to their primary care physician. and are there resources or programming? the kaiser itself is offering that people can tap into. yes. so we offer a lot of support. we offer integrated care. now through primary medicine. we also offer many, many digital resources. so things like the calm app and there's a bunch o

>> black smoke billowing from the grand romance, riverboat docked on the car. keane is bay in valais. whoa, i think across town but i seen the flames and smoke from way across for chavez rushed to during lemon streets to see what was going on. >> it's all everything is was all-black. i was like, wow, there's a lot of people that stayed on that. lot of people stay on that boat and hope nobody got >> fire says they got the call around 4.50. they could see the pillar of smoke while in route and upgraded to a full arm response. they had to take a defensive approach from land because the boat is sinking. unable to board the boat until the fire was out. there were 4 people on it at the time of the fire to rescue themselves. 2 were assisted by a good samaritan before vallejo fire arrived. the fire department says people may have been living on the boat thing is how there were people on the boat at the time and has been in the band and vote for many years. quite possible

police had to come back after someone got back on the boat. >> and refused to leave. they had to tase the man and carry him off. chavez says the owner of the grand romance and hope to fix the boat before the fire left here. they were going to restore it, but i guess they just left just slowly started sinking in the water and people just live dot as it went. there were no injuries. fire says it's still under investigation. >> and they'll release the cause at a later time in vallejo amanda hari kron. 4 news. >> police are investigating a pair of deadly shootings in oakland. the first happened around 9.45 friday night near the intersection of 38th avenue and macarthur boulevard in the city's laurel district. officers found a person suffering from at least one gunshot wound. the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died. then early saturday morning, another deadly shooting. this one on 12 street right by lowell park. police say they found 2 people shot. one of them died at the scene. the second

person was taken to a hospital where they are in stable condition. no arrests have been made in either shooting. in the north bay. a busy weekend for the sandra fell. police department officers responded to shootings, stabbings and a deadly crash after a guatemalan independence day event on friday. after 15 minutes of at about 15 minutes after the gathering ended at northgate mall. police say a different kind of event started in the canal neighborhood. several fell. police say hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people took over the streets with sideshows around 10:20pm, officers found a 25 year-old man had been shot twice. he was taken to the hospital. his condition is unknown at this time. then about 2 hours later, police say a fight broke out. a 24 year-old man was stabbed and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. then at one 30 saturday morning, another shooting. police say a 20 year-old man was shot somewhere in sandra fell and took himself to the hospital. he was also treated for a non-life-threatening

injury. also in sandra fell, 2 people are dead after a car crashed into a canal. happened 7 o'clock saturday morning. police say witnesses saw a car drive down canal street and into the water at 70 miles per hour. first responders pulled 2 people from the submerged car. both victims died. police believe alcohol was a factor. but the investigation is ongoing. on the peninsula. police arrested a robbery suspect on saturday. investigators say the victim was robbed of his backpack after a brief struggle with the robber who carried a pipe and a knife. it happened around 11:00am county road in san carlos. the suspect is believed to have swung at the victim but did not injure them. happening now, police in millbrae looking for a group of robbers who threatened to teens gunpoint. it happened late friday at mills high school. police say 3 teens wearing ski masks approached the victims. the robbers demanded the victim's cell phones. nobody was physically injured. oakland police are

investigating a domestic disturbance after a standoff late friday night. this happened on outlook avenue near mills college. police say they responded to reports of a domestic dispute. the man was said to be armed and barricaded with other people inside of the home after a standoff officers were able to safely take the man into custody. no injuries reported pablo police are warning the public about ongoing scams. they shared an example on the department's facebook page and you can hear an officer confronting a suspected scammer. listen to this. this again. >> the u.s. are already service will change. i tower lieutenant hightower. it's great begin with. >> this is sergeant hands to this and probably department. >> well, here's the backstory to that video there. 2 officers from the department were at a gas station when they read it to him and the owner of this phone right there who said he was being scammed. he said he got a call from that bloc number you see on your screen. well, the

caller on the other land end of that phone call. they were accusing the man of missing jury duty. the scammer then told the owner of this phone that he could pay off his warrant by sending bitcoin. the scammer then kept the owner of the phone on the line for over an hour. well, the man was directed to go to a gas station to get the bitcoin. now, luckily, these officers were input. they were hanging out at the gas station. they happen to be there and they were able to stop the transaction. so they are now reminding the public that police will never ask for any money over the phone or to waive a potential war. it if you think you've been scammed, make sure you call your local police department. >> happening right now, the mermaid run is happening in san francisco. hundreds of racers are lacing up their shoes for 5 k and 10 k races 70 justice. live for us san francisco this morning. good morning to you to looks like lots of people around about already. >> good morning, stephanie.

flare up and the mountains ever. so minor and modest, it will a little bit more animated. we get around wednesday and thursday as this low sort of goes towards our south and taps into some moisture for tuesday morning. there's your morning up fog again to mix out for a mostly sunny day on balance. here's the shot from the east bay shoreline, pesky bay fog and clouds cool with temperatures at about 80 going on in london. really most i'm going to be upper 70's, but somebody my pop 80 early into the week, mild and sunny 70's covered the bay, you know, going on about 80 well inland for late in the week. it's the scattered clouds monsoon. this does not look like it's going to be much of anything. it's just that happening around us on moisture gets thrown in the mid layers of the atmosphere. you get a little instability, get that dry lightning problem. and that's why we're always so. dicey about that until we get to the wet season. so it's just they're around us is going to be more tahoe thunder showers as the vote for the most part, what you can expect in point south around yosemite warming into the middle 80's, by the way, alright, 68 san francisco.

voyaging canoe has made its way to the bay on friday night. the legendary who or excuse me docked in sausalito. the double hold canoe is recognized for reviving the lost art of polynesian voyaging and navigation. the boat is embarking on a four-year voyage of the pacific ocean that started in alaska in the summer time. the canoe plans to stop at nearly 100 indigenous territories. and the goal is to educate people about the importance of caring for our planet and to help build connections between indigenous communities across the pacific ocean. for us at polynesian voyaging

you can expect inland. the clearing happens a lot quicker, obviously a little bit more stubborn along the coast and that keep temperatures down a bit. >> although we're on a mild start today, we saw in the north a little bit because of the ocean temps being a little bit on the warmer side least to serve. here's a look san jose this is mixed bag of sun and clouds. looks like the sun is starting a win over. so we're getting back to the clearing mode. the oakland a's versus the padres today 107, game time. temps basically in the upper 60's through most of the afternoon. maybe touching 70 scattered clouds and cool as what you can expect and not much action here for us over the next couple of days. the only thing that this low may do off of our coast is maybe facilitate some mid-level moisture for the bay area. that's the thing we'll watch out for for dry lightning temperature. check for you. a lower 60's up north and mid 60's to be found in the east bay. these readings again are a little bit more mild than we saw from yesterday. 73 at 1 o'clock at 4. we're at 75 begin mixing up some sun and

clouds. and this mixture a little bit of a warming up trend we see early next week. but again, watching out for that dry lightning perhaps for the middle of the week. we'll have more in the week day forecast. plus the 4 zone in just a bit. stephanie. dave, thank you. >> a major story we're following out of southern california. a los angeles county sheriff's deputy has died following an ambush style shooting. that deputy was on duty at the time. investigators say the shooter was driving past the deputy in the opposite direction. when that person opened fire, the deputy identified as ryan clinton rumor had just gotten engaged earlier this week. investigators do not have a suspect at this time. and open. a restaurant is burglarized for the 3rd time this year. marzano on park boulevard had their front door smashed in and thousands of dollars stolen friday morning. the burglar smashed the glass on the front door causing thousands of dollars in damages. they also took the safe. the break-in came after comes after we learned oakland city leaders missed a deadline to get crucial police funding.

october, people are advised to get updated booster shots ahead of a potential winter surge. california is suing 5 of the largest petroleum companies in the world. the state is accusing gas and oil giants. exxon mobil shell, chevron, conoco phillips and british petroleum. the state claims the companies knew the consequences of burning fossil fuels but downplayed those dangers to pursue record-breaking profits. the suit seeks to create a fund paid for by the companies to pay for recovery efforts following storms and wildfires. the statement shell said it agrees that action is needed. a par on climate change but said the courtroom is not the proper venue to address global warming. meanwhile, the american petroleum institute called the lawsuit a waste of taxpayer resources. the strike by a united auto workers could end up causing layoffs. negotiations resumed on saturday, but workers and car makers are still at odds on a number of issues. news

>> you may remember hank, the tank, the 500 pound bear who made headlines for repeatedly breaking into lake tahoe homes. want to give some space here. haha, making off with food and leaving behind a lot of damage in lake tahoe. well, it turned out that hank is actually female and recently had 3 cubs reds. you can see right there are these cubs are now at a wildlife sanctuary in sonoma county. and recently our ken wayne was able to get an inside. look at how those little guys are doing. >> from surveillance cameras, it appears the 3 cubs are doing fine at their new temporary home sonoma county wildlife rescue. but the california department of fish and wildlife wants to be sure. so just confirmed that are things going smoothly. we do have to actually get our hands on them at some point. today is the day of cool gems and cups. so one by one, they're darted. and after the saturday kicks given full medical exams, they're weighed each around 65 pounds.

>> and measured and x-rayed and more will include, you know, physical status, including total system. it's also but samples. we can make sure internally and also screening for a very important disease and there's virus and also take this opportunity to give them parasite control. and then just being ready to respond to whatever they need as we find. so far it hasn't been anything else more significant. >> the x-rays revealed one cub had been shot with a pellet gun to just a single it wasn't in the place that was causing severe damage buried in the muscles. and it's back along the thorax area. so look, it's incidental and the fact that it's not causing any ongoing health concern but of course, that's not thing. we animal to experience. another cub had an injured paw perhaps from being clipped by a car. >> but it too, was healing nicely. the cubs are undeniably cute. they're not being treated like teddy

bears. we are not going in. we're not cuddling were handling is not the opportunity for anyone else come on and have a kind of hands-on activity that's just counterproductive towards that. we have experience. the goal is to keep them wild and not have the mimic the behavior of their mother. >> by trying to get food from people. >> that have, but we're not so ingrained in them that they have that change them just to see them so quickly running and hiding was amazing to us. so quite happy. >> every week about 700 pounds of food is hidden. while the cubs are in their den, they have to learn to find the food the way wild bears do when there's not a dumpster or refrigerator around. >> they get food rewards based working for it like climbing a tree moving a rock or digging out underneath that felled finding at ditch, you know, finding food in places so that they learn how forage and that they learn how to get a food reward based on not just having it set out there by a garbage can that you know how they would really actually have that happen in the wild.

and the other part of it, which is pretty amazing is that there's not human interaction with these bears right now. they actually need to re-learn a fear of humans, which they do here as well. >> hank, the tank has been renamed henrietta, but the fish and wildlife. she's called 64 f she's doing well now and her new home at a sanctuary in colorado. she is going to live out the rest of her life in a sanctuary which is actually not ideal either. >> the best place for wild animals in the wild. and so what we really need to do as humans is to avoid any kind of conflict. it's going to get them patients like 64 >> some wonder why she was taken from her cubs. there's been huge public interest and the a lot of people are really concerned to see. you know how i've been asked a lot about how rehabilitation works. i've been asked a lot about the separation from the mother and a lot of that is just people humanizing that thinking that, you know, those traits are like human traits. but really what the goal is here is for
