shoreline. still that carpet of lights, if you will, satellite picture here, the thicker stuff to start still up towards the north. so we're going to start off with a mostly sunny skies. but again, some scattered clouds to throw in there kind of cars medically so that i can really do much of anything temperature check for you right now, hayward. we're sorry, we're getting some bad data right now. 50's everybody else there. so you're probably pretty close. meanwhile, your contrast there, we've got cooler temperatures happening in hayward. yes, okay. that's the cmb spot. but 9 degrees ahead. bracing for half moon bay were up ahead. also from the north bay and for east bay by couple degrees. so a little more mild this morning. your winds are somewhat variable but seem to favor the northwest right now. we'll see a little bit of a pop with winds this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to so for lining up today today for you, a few little spotty clouds going on there, but basically a lot of sunshine highs in the 70's, even a few lower 80's. well inland again tomorrow, kind of gloomy and waiting for a series of some light rain showers coming our way. l thanks so much, dave. there's a horrific crime that's now

under investigation in the north bay. santa rosa police are on the hunt for a man. they say. >> beheaded one of his family members. police warn the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. kron four's. dan thorn has the latest. >> santa rosa police say the suspected killer has been on the run since thursday after a woman's body was found at a home without a head. it's believed the suspect took it with him and now police need help finding the man connected to this horrifying case. this is the man police say is behind a gruesome killing. 24 year-old luis, gustavo, arroyo. lopez is wanted after police say a relative's body was found at this santa rosa home based on the information they learned in their investigation. they do believe >> the mister arroyo, did leave the residence with his relatives, had in his possession. >> santa rosa police investigators responded to the

horrific scene an pomo trail thursday afternoon. the victim was decapitated, but neither the killer nor the weapon was found. we do know that the weapon used plated instrument. >> residents in the neighborhood say they feel bad after learning about what happened is set for the for the family, the relatives that they got to deal with that is it's really unfortunate. >> greg, john lives just a few houses down from where the killing took place. he says he does not recognize the suspect or the distinctive for 20 tattoo on the side of arroyo. lopez's definitely keep an eye out for police say a rodeo lopez has prior convictions for violent assault and weapons possession. if spotted. police are asking people to avoid approaching him, please do not try and gauge or contact him. consider him armed and dangerous and call 9-1-1. >> investigators have not released the victim's name nor her relationship to arroyo. lopez. they say he has

possible family connections to the central valley, but it's unclear if he is heading there reporting in santa rosa. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> a san jose police officer has been fired. he is accused of sending racist text messages, tomorrow was involved in a shooting last year that that and an internal investigation of that shooting revealed the text messages allegedly sent by mark mckinnon. mara, in them. he is accused of using the n word and saying that he hates black people. he's a 6 year veteran of the police department and san jose mayor matt mahan call this disappointing and sickening. >> and i'm glad that this person is no longer a member of our police department. there is just no room for racism and in fact, completely undermines the mission of our department. it's unfair to the hundreds of officers who go out there every single day and put their lives on the line to protect and serve all of our residents equally while their

respective of there race, religion, gender it cetera. >> and and i just it's it's in theory. we were having this conversation. but sadly, racism still exists. clearly. >> when we find it, we're not going to have any tolerance for it. >> the employee nomar was texting has been placed on administrative leave and is also under investigation. >> california highway patrol is investigating a hit and run crash that hurt a stanford student. >> as a possible hate crime, the collision happened on stanford campus friday afternoon. and investigators say a driver hit an air of student while shouting racial slurs and took off the cars. a black suv with the tire mounted on the back and no other description was given. berkeley police have released videos showing the moment that a woman was shot and killed at an albany toyota dealership. kron four's. rob nesbitt has the latest. and we do need to

warn you this video might be disturbing to some viewers. >> active shooter berkeley where exactly that was the 9-1-1 call made from inside the toyota service center in albany 2 months ago. berkeley police release surveillance video friday showing 24 year-old lamar walker inside the dealership walking up to 24 year-old a lot of gallons desk who worked at the business according to police, walker pulled out a handgun and shot gallon. we compared to their 7 year-old son get out the side of the building. police body camera footage was also released friday. officers rushing up a stairwell of the toyota service center to the second floor where gallon was shot and killed once upstairs. officers located walker at the same desk and yelled for him to comply with police. i brief pause and then shots fired. according to berkeley police walker was pronounced dead at the scene. surveillance video from the dealership shows officers entering on the left side of the screen and walker lifting his gun. police say

the 24 year-old unsuccessfully attempted to take his own life. the fatal shootings are under investigation by the alameda county sheriff's office, albany police department and alameda counth da's office. i reached out to gallons family to get their reaction to the videos being released. her mother yolanda gallon telling me she's glad the public will get the chance to see for themselves. what kind of monster walker was. >> that was rob nesbitt reporting for us in gallons family has set up a gofundme page to raise money for the 7 year-old son. and so far they've raised $54,000. >> happening right now, southbound lanes of i-680, are closed until monday. >> caltrans crews are repaving lanes that have become a safety concern for drivers. we're taking a look at that map of the closure you can see all southbound lanes of i 6.80, in pleasanton will remain off limits until 4 o'clock monday morning. the closure runs from the 5, 86, 80 connector down to koopman

road. all northbound lanes of 6 ad will remain open. trick moped company. rubble will be taken off of the streets of san francisco this month. the company tells kron 4 that services are set to end on november. 18th. the rideshare service will then only be available in new york city and new jersey. rebel did not say why it's an ending its operations in san francisco. happening today. it is a walk to end alzheimer's in san francisco, nearly 2000 people are expected to attend and we have kron four's tiffany justice joining us live in the city with those details. sailor tiffany. >> good morning has nearly 600 communities across the nation hold a walk every year. and today francisco is holding the vaers. take a look right behind me. loads of volunteers waking up very early this morning to set up this event that will start very soon in a few hours. the end to our the walk to end alzheimer's will start at 10, 30 this morning. registration will be at 9

meteorologist dave spahr as of the weather center with those details and more. good morning, dave. well, good morning. l a good morning, everybody. and enjoy the sunshine we get for today. here's a live shot coming to the east bay shoreline. >> now, even though the sun is going up arrive earlier tomorrow morning, we'll have all those gloomy sky conditions will be kind of a little darker going on because of the arrival of a series of systems early into the week. not a lot quantitatively, but it will try to make a little bit of noise here there. you can see, though, the sun joining us. nice, beautiful picture. nice saturday in store for you today. a lot of 50's up north here. 55 for oakland, hayward missed and some data. 56 for antioch and 59. meanwhile, 4 san francisco, those winds on shore, not a big surprise with this, but real intense with the winds of the rival this system. it will be, by the way, when it's all said and done much cooler on the other side and we're going to re experience. some of those chilly temperatures looks like the 30's are coming back and some of the inland valleys, particularly as we pop of the winds tomorrow afternoon. here we go. we'll probably see a

most respected businesses was unfortunately burglarized for the second time this year. kron four's philippe de gaulle spoke with the frustrated owner. >> twice in the past 6 months, marcus books of oakland has been burglarized. the most recent incident happened at around 9 o'clock sunday night on martin luther king junior way. that's when co-owner blanche richardson says the suspect is seen on surveillance video throwing what appears to be a large rock through the front window only to steal for new hardback fiction books. >> worth about $150 altogether in take them all. he just took. i think what he could reach easily. >> and then just walked. so this comes at a bad time for richardson whose family is preparing to reopen their shuttered. san francisco store front. >> she says the window has to get fixed quickly. the cost to repair. is about $1200. i don't know in the long run what effect this is going to have, especially with. >> holiday shopping coming up,

philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> and kron four's your local election headquarters. the latest uc berkeley poll shows u.s. representative adam schiff as well as katie porter are now running neck and neck to become california's next u.s. senator porter with 17% of likely voters and ship with 16%. the closest competitors are republican candidate steve garvey with 10% of the support and democratic congresswoman of the east bay, barbara lee, with 9%, the top 2 finishers in the march primary, regardless of the party will face off in the november 2024 election. meanwhile, former milpitas mayor rich tran is running for his old position in the 2024 election. you might remember tran was mayorr from the years 2016 to 2020 during his term trend helped increase funding for the city's police and fire departments. he also passed an ordinance that enabled the police department to sweep

encampments near schools and other areas regularly. he's going to be competing with the current mayor. that's carmen montano, who is seeking reelection. and in the east bay. early voting starts this weekend for the oakland school board. special election. this to fill an empty seat on the board. the 2 candidates that are vying for the seat are core taylor. i'm a retired teacher and principal and sasha ritzy hernandez who is described as a coordinator on the alameda county registrar of voters website so early in-person voting will be available at the registrar's office on allen street or at a vote center over on international boulevard. that's actually starting today and will be open until election day on tuesday. there's a plan to redevelop hundreds of acres in san jose, sunnyvale and mountain view. but that's facing a major setback. australian construction and real estate company called lend. lease is announcing that they have ended their partnership with google since 2019. google has

been planning on a 15 billion dollar deal to build millions of square feet of retail and residential space across silicon valley. that project included 15,000 homes, a quarter of which were supposed to be made into affordable housing. in a statement, lendlease said the existing agreements are no longer mutually beneficial. given curtain martin given current market conditions. so despite the announcement, san jose mayor matt mahan says he believes that google will eventually finish that project. >> i'm not privy to what conversations are going on inside the company. but i i you know, the is there still fully committed to building out the tech campus when the growth is there. the demand is there and the time is right to invest in a new commercial development. >> in response, google says they are, quote, looking at a variety of options to move our development projects forward and deliver on our housing commitment. the ac transit

agency wants your opinion on a possible systemwide bus service redesigns. so they're asking about 3 specific preliminary service scenarios. the feature different bus routes and schedule changes throughout the system. the first proposal leaves a pretty much the same. the second option would reduce or and service in areas with the lowest ridership and then reallocate resources to areas of high demand. and the final option adds new sources of significant funding. so you can go online to vote for your favorite plan. happening tomorrow morning. it is the end of daylight saving time. so that means an extra hour of sleep tonight. for most people. that's not good news for everyone, though. doctors warned that the time change can actually trigger what's called a cycle of cluster headaches and worsen migraines. some members of congress have been trying to end the time change for good. but so far there's been no progress on that bill. still ahead on kron 4 morning news, san francisco's restaurant week kicked off and it's

good morning. a look at morning. everybody. looks like today would be pretty lucky. so your saturday is going to be treated to a good deal. sunshine going forward, contrasted with tomorrow. kind of gloomy. >> with a lot of bark and going on. but the biden will be to our north and to our south. not so much right across the bay, but we stand that chance of a few little widely scattered showers at this hour right now, a little fog bank is making its way across the golden gate bridge for right now. we are going to see this afternoon a couple of stray scattered clouds going on, but just kind of a little local phenomenon. we get morning fog. not a big surprise because we're getting that encouragement from a front to our north. there you see the line of clouds and rain shower activity. and again, the lion share of this rain will be in the north bay for tomorrow morning. and a little chunk cluster looks to our south to temperature. check for you right now. most readings in the 50's. 52 for livermore. 57 meanwhile for antioch and 56 for san jose. quick contrast to yesterday were actually a couple degrees ahead. even at half moon bay, not bad for the highs today, though, we're going to see inland highs in the upper

off-duty pilot riding in the jump seat allegedly tried to shut down the plane's engines have filed a lawsuit against alaska airlines to the sense that what i thought was very >> secure. clean way of flying was compromised. what i went through, it impacted alaska passenger. paul stevens says he's now suffering from anxiety and trouble sleeping and says the moment the flight nose dives toward its destination. the same exact time. the flight is shuttering. so the shaking happening in the cabin. it was like i said, it wasn't when i turned and looked at everyone around me. instant panic. and here came through and it was just shortly after that seconds that i had come to the conclusion that this is how we are going i was monday. the lawsuit blames alaska air for not doing anything to vet bay area pilot joseph emerson

before allowing him to ride behind the pilots in the jump seat. we're asking the airline to come clean. >> about what it does or does not do to that. people who go into the cockpit. number 2, we asking for the airlines to be compelled if they don't do so voluntarily to doctor seager's that will lease challenge those people so that there's an opportunity for them to discover and for frankly, pilots who may want to disclose that they're having an issue to do so before they get up in the air and threaten everyone's life. and the 3rd thing, of course, is given what actually did occur here and the effect it had on the passengers. we are seeking monetary re compacts compensation. alaska airlines says it's received the complaint and is reviewing it. in a statement, the airline says. >> the pilots and flight attendants operating flight 2059 responded without hesitation to ensure the safety of all on board. we are incredibly proud and grateful for their skilled actions. those filing the lawsuit agree the pilots did save the

passengers from disaster but say alaska has a responsibility to do more. no one should feel like they're about to die. no one should feel like. >> that that an individual who was a security risk was allowed to walk freely across the plain. and no one who is flying a plane are in charge of people's lives, like they can only communicate if they're having any challenges, particularly mental challenge. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> a protest delay the departure of the u.s. military vessel from the port of oakland, demonstrators gathered around the ship on friday believing that the ship will eventually be loaded up with weapons and military supplies bound for israel. kron 4 has not been able to confirm the ship's destination or its contents. demonstrato s also called for an immediate cease-fire to stop the loss of innocent lives in gaza. the

ship embarked on the san francisco bay at around friday afternoon, about 10 hours after its original departure time. and according to the air of resource organizing center, at least 3 protesters were detained by the u.s. coast guard. in an effort to help californians prevent and prepare for the threat of wildfire. calpers announcing more than 100 million dollars in grant funding the money would go toward local projects like fuel reduction wildfire prevention planning an education and we'll prioritize communities with disadvantaged to low income, disabled or elderly populations. grant applications are open until january 10th. >> that's right. with that. rapper tupac is now immortalized in the city of oakland. >> at a ceremony on friday, the section of macarthur boulevard between van buren

year-old duane davis pleaded not guilty to murdering tupac. and some more local news companies in the bay area continue to downsize by firing their employees. san francisco based e-commerce startup called fair has laid off hundreds of employees this week around 250 total or 20% of their workforce were let go the online wholesale marketplace says that layoffs are part of a restructuring plan to better align their teams. but the company's long-term vision, the new owners of bank of the west of announced hundreds of bay area layoffs, too. the majority of the positions there are being cut at the banks and remote location and some over at the montgomery location in san francisco and the bay area. biotech company called saying com au therapeutics will be laying off 40% of its workforce and shutting down its brisbane headquarters. the company says that the moves are part of a, quote, strategic transformation and a corresponding restructuring of operations. in other news,

congress has 2 weeks left to reach a deal and avoid another government shutdown. new house speaker mike johnson wants to approve another temporary plan to extend spending through january, but it would likely include policy changes are spending cuts. the democrats likely won't support our washington, d.c., correspondent jessie turner. has that report. >> shutdowns are stupid. most republicans and democrats agree with south dakota congressman dusty johnson. but how to avoid a shutdown is still largely partisan. my initial idea was to extend that january. 15th speaker mike johnson supports a second temporary measure that would fund the federal government through early next year. there's some good arguments for that. but johnson is also entertaining. another idea called a ladder cr it would extend government funding agency by agency for different periods of time. we'll see how that goes. i think we can build consensus around translation. >> they want to shut the government now. >> house democratic leader hakeem jeffries worries any

>> thanks, dave. horrific crime under investigation in the north bay. santa rosa. police are still on the manhunt for a person they say be headed. one of his family members and police are warning the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. kron four's. dan thorn has the latest. >> santa rosa police say the suspected killer has been on the run since thursday after a woman's body was found at a home without a head. it's believed the suspect took it with him and now police need help finding the man connected to this horrifying case. this is the man police say is behind a gruesome killing. 24 year-old luis, gustavo, arroyo. lopez is wanted after police say a relative's body was found at this santa rosa home based on the information they learned in their investigation. they do believe >> the mister arroyo, did leave the residence with his relatives, had in his

possession. >> santa rosa police investigators responded to the horrific scene an pomo trail thursday afternoon. the victim was decapitated, but neither the killer nor the weapon was found. we do know that the weapon used plated instrument. >> residents in the neighborhood say they feel bad after learning about what happened is set for the for the family and the relatives that they got to deal with. that is it's really unfortunate. >> greg, john lives just a few houses down from where the killing took place. he says he does not recognize the suspect or the distinctive for 20 tattoo on the side of arroyo. lopez's definitely keep an eye out for police say a rodeo lopez has prior convictions for violent assault and weapons possession. if spotted. police are asking people to avoid approaching him, please do not try and gauge or contact him. consider him armed and dangerous and call 9-1-1. >> investigators have not

the latest. and we do want to warn you the video might be disturbing to some viewers. >> active shooter berkeley where exactly that was the 9-1-1 call made from inside the toyota service center in albany 2 months ago. berkeley police release surveillance video friday showing 24 year-old damar walker inside the dealership. >> walking up to 24 year-old a lot gallons desk who worked at the business according to police, walker pulled out a handgun and shot gallon. we compared to their 7 year-old son get out the side of the building. police body camera footage was also released friday. officers rushing up a stairwell of the toyota service center to the second floor where gallon was shot and killed once upstairs. officers located walker at the same desk yelled for him to comply with police. a brief pause and then shots fired. according to berkeley police, walker was pronounced dead at the scene. surveillance video from the dealership shows officers entering on the left

side of the screen and walker lifting his gun. police say the 24 year-old unsuccessfully attempted to take his own life. the fatal shootings are under investigation by the alameda county sheriff's office, albany police department and alameda county da's office. i reached out to gallons family to get their reaction to the videos being released. her mother yolanda gallon telling me she's glad the public will get the chance to see for themselves. what kind of monster walker was. >> kron four's rob nesbitt reporting gallons family has set up a gofundme page that raises money for the 7 year-old son. and so far they've collected $54,000. >> happening right now, southbound lanes of i-680, are closed until monday. >> caltrans crews are repaving lanes and have become a safety concern for drivers. here's a map of that closure and you can see all southbound lanes of i-680, in pleasanton will remain off limits until 4 on monday morning. the closure runs from the 5.80, at 6.80, connector down to koopman road. all northbound lanes of

early-stage alzheimer's and even later stage alzheimer's caregivers. we have people like me who've lost a loved one and then we have so many more who just care deeply about this issue. so you actually mention that today is a big day for this organization. a lot of hard work many years this, you know, putting in that extra work to actually. learn some big news today. do you mind telling us more about it? no, no, it's it's a celebration. it's a time to celebrate. i've been with the association for 28 years. and during that time frame, there was very little change in terms of what we could do for people living with alzheimer's. and i'm so excited to tell this group today that we have change just since july. we now have an fda approved drug that is available in san francisco and people are able to get diagnosed and start getting disease-modifying treatments for alzheimer's. it's incredible. we've dropped of

>> meanwhile, in the south bay, san jose police officer has been fired. he's accused of sending racist text messages. mark mckinnon morrow was involved in a shooting last year korea restaurant an internal investigation there of that shooting revealed the tax allegedly sent by make tomorrow in them. he is accused of using the n word and saying that he hates black people. he was a six-year veteran of the police department. san jose's mayor matt mahan is calling this disappointing and sickening. >> and i'm glad that this person is no longer a member of our police department. there is just no room for racism and in fact, completely undermines the mission of our department. it's unfair to the hundreds of officers who go out there every single day and put their lives on the line to protect and serve all of our residents equally while their respective there race, religion, gender it cetera. >> and and i just it's it's in

>> active shooter berkeley where exactly that was the 9-1-1 call made from inside the toyota service center in albany 2 months ago. berkeley police release surveillance video friday showing 24 year-old damar walker inside the dealership walking up to 24 year-old a lot of gallons desk who worked at the business according to police, walker pulled out a handgun and shot gallon. we compared to their 7 year-old son get out the side of the building. police body camera footage was also released friday. officers rushing up a stairwell of the toyota service center to the second floor where gallon was shot and killed once upstairs. officers located walker at the same desk and yelled for him to comply with police. i brief pause and then shots fired. according to berkeley police walker was pronounced dead at the scene. surveillance video from the dealership shows officers entering on the left side of the screen and walker lifting his gun. police say

years, first so we've got we've done. we've done the walk about 3 years or 2 years ago. once again, we've got this big group we try to make it an annual thing where we all get together. you know, it is such tragic disease, it brings us all together and brings awareness to everyone. we're just here create awareness, but also bring everyone together. and you know you know, you're not right? everyone through and this walk so big. it's important as a fundraising event as well. and you mention a little bit why this walk is so important to you. do you mind going a little as to why, you know, you make the effort to come your boy, why this huge group, you know you have a few as maybe efforts come out. yeah. i mean, i think like i said, my mom diagnosed 8 years ago. so we've kind of been through it for the years you see how tough it is to go through not only like

personally, i'm so involved, but i everyone involved with me with my mom with my so i just want raise money to care to one day we could see like the say, the white flag, the white flour. that means we found so that's why we do it use a lot question to you is how does this all make you feel? we hundreds of people out here today for the walk. how does this all make you i mean, it's bittersweet. you know, it's like we're all here for a reason. and it's not a good but fantastic that so many people are here you create that awareness ultimately obvious you know, 10 or a fund to donate. just like i it all brings together to create share stories and great the memories maybe put some smiles to to a tragic and sad that disease and experience everyone's going you know, you're representing a great cause or app. and when

lawsuit against alaska airlines. >> 3 passengers aboard that san francisco bound alaskan airliner that was forced to make an emergency landing in portland last month when an off-duty pilot riding in the jump seat allegedly tried to shut down the plane's engines have filed a lawsuit against alaska airlines to the sense that what i thought was very >> secure. clean way of flying was compromised. what i went through, it impacted alaska passenger paul steven says he's now suffering from anxiety and trouble sleeping in says the moment the flight attendant announced there was an on-board emergency. >> remains front and center in his mind. >> the plant immediately takes a turn members left or right and nose dives toward its destination. the same exact time. the flight is shuttering. so the shaking happening in the cabin. it was like i said, it wasn't when i turned and looked at everyone around me. instant panic and fear came through and it was just shortly after that seconds that i had come to the conclusion that this is how
