high cloudiness, not just there, but in some the east bay, just a little bit here. but that will just kind of color are skies there. you can kind of see it in motion behind it again, fairly clear. so outside of maybe some high cloudiness will do. all right. a chilly start. it is though, a couple of readings missing from this. but you get the general trend. a lot of 40's on the board. so better in the 30's, though it feels chilly or in spots, though. 51 balais 55, san francisco, the mild spots and you can see those 40's well inland and it is a bit cooler in spots than it was yesterday at this time with the dry air in place, although half moon bay looking pretty good there. well, ahead, so for your day ahead, mostly sunny skies. those temperatures return to the lower 70's for highs by this afternoon. coming up in a bit, we'll take a look at what's going look like for today tomorrow and hints into your unsettled next week, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you for that. >> today marks the start of the 2023 asia pacific economic cooperation summit in san francisco. also known as apec over the next 7 days. leaders from asia and the u.s.

including president joe biden are expected to arrive in the bay area. kron four's tiffany justice live for us now in mescow. nice enter with more on what we can expect throughout the week. good morning to you, tiffany. >> good morning, stephanie. yes, essentially equates to the super bowl of world economies, dignitaries from all over the world are in town right now for the apec summit starting today. and the town has been busy getting ready for the summit as well. earlier this week, they raise the apec flag over san francisco in a ceremony and security barriers have been placed up around the muskogee they're my hotel. the annual apec summit will be the largest international gathering of dignitaries in san francisco since 1945? >> when the charter creating the united nations was actually created here. a summit opens up today will go until friday expecting to draw in around 20,000 people into the city and traffic is highly anticipated. we want to show you which areas are going to

be impacted the most in and around the county center and the fairmont hotel traffic will be temporary, blocked off from market to harrison street and 5th street to second street. green areas mean this is only for local traffic ready areas and locators means this is controlled pedestrian traffic and checkpoints for pedestrians, locations with yellow locators. this is where vehicles will be checked and interstate interstates will be impacted as well. caltrans will be closing parts of i-80 later next week at the request of federal law enforcement mayor london breed and city leaders urging the public to avoid roads if possible and take advantage of public transportation. we want to go in that into this as well. of course, the most anticipated meeting during the summit will be between president biden and chinese leader xi jingping. the 2 will meet on wednesday, but details about the specific locations about this meeting have not been released at this time. this will be the first time the 2 have met face-to-face in nearly a year and they will discuss very

money and then took off from the scene. this is the moment a suspected armed robber and his brother were seen getting away in timber on police say the duo targeted a man at this bank of america atm at strawberry village and followed him to his apartment near janet way. and andrew drive can't believe that they would do that. but i do believe that they would do that, but it's kind of sad for the person that i happen to. >> scary people who use this atm frequently say they have never felt unsafe when withdrawing money. but after hearing about the robbery, they're on alert. think kind of things are becoming more common. >> and it's not excuses. just certain city or neighborhood. i think it's anywhere and everywhere. >> this longtime timber on resident who did not want to show her face, says people in this community should not have to live in terror. i'm so sorry for >> his experience and his and he's in the threat. against

him. >> temper on police say while the robber demanded the $500 in cash from the victim, a shot was fired. they say a ricocheted bullet fragment could be responsible for a cut to the man's need after stealing the man's money. the suspects were caught on video driving away in a red kia police later found the suspects in richmond and took them into custody. police departments across the bay area have been warning about atm related robberies. those warnings include scanning the area and watching for suspicious people or activities use atm's located inside the bank following your withdrawal, put cash away immediately. and when leaving an atm, make sure you're not being followed tips. some atm users are already following. >> if i see anybody that doesn't that i just get back in my car or just not getting in my i stay in my car and drive off. that's my suggestion to everybody. a minute to get off trust. just around. so your car and go to another. you can.

>> timber on police also telling us that the victim had to be taken to the hospital for his injury. the 2 suspects are being interviewed about this case in timber on dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> and alameda, a man is being treated for chemical burns following an apparent explosion at a pool. it happened yesterday morning at a condo complex on shore point court. this is on the west side of the island right across from crown beach. firefighters say the man was servicing the pool. still no word from officials on what triggered that explosion. in the north say one person is dead after being swept into the ocean. this happened friday morning at point reyes beach, emergency crews tried to save the person. the victim was airlifted to the hospital where they later died. meanwhile, so this is the fire crews. stone them friday morning. you can see the scene right there. this happened near amador and 3rd street. paramedics arrived on scene and evaluated the swimmer who

miraculously did not sustained significant injuries. >> and more bay area tech companies like google and nextdoor announced layoffs this week. but most bay area economists say things seem to be improving in the tech industry. kron four's dan kerman has more on that. >> another week, another round of tech layoffs this week. it's google and next door, which is reducing its workforce. 25 1% by laying off 200 employees. still the website layoffs, fy. i shows tech layoffs have been on a steady decline since they peaked in january of this year. tech employment. >> what are from before the pandemic? and nearly a jobs. we're only a few 1000 below the peak. all of the layoffs of happened. but level of tech employment is down only a 20 event.

>> steven levy is the director and senior economist at the center for continuing study of the california economy. he says new jobs in ai clean energy and electric vehicles are allowing many of those laid off to find new work. but he still has some concerns. >> i'm much more worried. about the return to working in the office that i am about the tech layoffs. levy says that's impacted small businesses and restaurants that depend on office workers to stay afloat. we have can. some look at downtown palo alto, which >> actually has up whole lot of tech workers. he concluded at the decline in people coming into the office. wiped out about 100,000 square feet of retail demand if and when that will bounce back is unclear. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> well, today is veterans day and communities across the bay

area host celebrations to honor those who have served. here's a look at just some of the events you can participate in today. the city of fairfield host a veterans day ceremony, concert and parade event. start at 10 o'clock in the downtown theater in the south bay. san jose also host a ceremony and parade that starts at 10. 45 on market street followed by a parade at noon at the snp center, the uss hornet museum hosted veterans day ceremony at 11 this morning followed by other presentations throughout the day. the city of down bill also host a ceremony at 11 this morning. a community hall on hartz avenue. the city of put a petaluma host, a parade through the downtown area starting at one this afternoon. coming up on the kron 4 morning news as honor our veterans today, a new consumer warning about scams targeting those trying to help. >> those who have served. plus one bay area fire department shares ways you can stay safe from carbon monoxide poisoning. and after the break, a new program is

moon bay with the way some high cloudiness, there will be enough to kind of paint the skies a bit. but enjoy the sunshine and mild temperatures pretty well inland, starting 40's. there might be a couple of pockets of some 30's, right for get this rays of sun. we're getting now. but san carlos coming in at 50 at this hour, half moon bay, we just worth 48 and inland. plenty of 40's. it will be replaced by 70's later today close. and this is with the satellite picture is some left over high cloudiness. it will around a bit for today, but mostly sunny will work for just about everybody. little bit more in the way of cloud cover for tomorrow. big storm we're talking about here. it is up here in the place. we look for gulf of alaska. if you squint, you can kind of start to make out the rotation. key issue is this is cold air upstairs. this is mild air at the surface of the pacific. and that's going to take the scenic route. it's not going to take the b line here. it's going to head south first kind of little to lure of the northern pacific easter division and then finding start drifting indoor neighborhood. when we get to around tuesday, wednesday, still working on the details of the timing. we'll give you

their opposition to the israeli government. after much criticism, they also said they condemn anti-semitism and islamophobia. this past wednesday, the school board was set to consider a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the conflict. but that may meeting ended without discussion on the issue. oakland unified says their schools are safe spaces for everyone and under no circumstances should any of their students feel or staff feel singled out because of how they identify. across the bay area. friday, members of the jewish community set up empty. bought tables to honor the roughly 240 hostages being held in gaza. >> this display was in sausalito. she bought is a day of rest for jews. it's from friday night at sundown to sunset saturday night. it's been now 5 weeks since hamas attacked israel and kidnapped men, women and children. in response, israel released a relentless series of air attacks on gaza. the biden administration says the number of palestinians killed is likely higher than 10,000.

israel has announced daily for our pause is in the attacks to allow civilians to get out of fighting areas in gaza. the biden administration is calling for those pauses to be longer. in the north bay. a warning from the santa rosa fire department after an elderly couple was found dead inside their apartment from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning. four's ella sogomonian reports on what you should know when trying to stay warm this winter. >> it's really an unfortunate reminder for us all as people start to rely more heavily on gas, powered appliances. >> residents inside this building at the vintage ridge apartments were evacuated on wednesday morning. >> after an elderly couple died in one of the units. santa rosa fire fighters suspect they were exposed to lethal levels of carbon monoxide. pulled up. >> and we noticed that there was. but cops here cpg get trucks and there ysu go. we're just wondering what was going santa rosa fire marshal paul lowenthal says the reason for

their deaths is still being determined. >> but it's suspected that a natural gas powered appliance inside the apartment may be to blame. he cautions everyone to make sure they have carbon monoxide alarms that are up to because changing the batteries may not be enough. the alarms can expire after 10 years. he also recommends to get familiar with the sounds of your alarm, carbon monoxide, especially in homes as primarily as a result of incomplete combustion. and so. >> it's important that people have those carbon monoxide in other homes that have been tested, their functioning and outside bedrooms where they can alert somebody. the permit management company left a notice on a neighbor's door saying they will be testing carbon monoxide alarms. it's not clear if the victims had a functioning alarmed themselves. >> if it was working, i mean, they should be working. she'd been tested. the family were closed over the >> as temperatures drop, people might resort to using their gas stove or oven to heat up a room. but the fire

marshal warns against that calling it risky. he says if an alarm does go off to turn off the appliance, open the windows and call 9-1-1. so again, we have yet to learn exactly what went wrong in this case. and we have yet to learn identities of those 2 victims. i did speak with a resident of the apartment complex who says that the management company did check their alarm in recent months reporting in santa rosa. i'm ella sogomonian kron. 4 news. >> still ahead on the kron 4 morning news. some ski resorts are open in tahoe. what you can look forward to the ski season.

with some thunder shower action and some hail possible as well. we put that all together for you in the longer forecast. let's check out what your day is going to look like a was look at about 65 as we approach noon, 71 to 2 o'clock as we'll see some lower 70's well inland. the picture right now, east bay shoreline, looking nice. we do again have some of that painted high cloudiness little bit kind of leftover business, if you will, as little passing collection of clouds just kind of sinks to the south. and let's us with mostly sunny in its wake overnight we've we managed to cool off to the 40's and a good chunk of real estate. we have upper 30's probably in some of those pockets there before the sun joins us this morning. but already some lower 50's taking hold. we've got any aka 51 along with toledo, 54 for san francisco in 48 for san jose. and we're trailing a little bit in some pockets here. in other words, we're colder this morning and we were from yesterday because we did have some clear skies overnight. there. so the winds an eventful and that's pretty much for today. tomorrow you can expect, but that will be become a little bit more active as we go into next

control and raise the statewide minimum wage kron four's capitol correspondent eytan wallace breaks down the numbers for us. >> less than a year out from the november election, californians are weighing in on 2 measures that have qualified for the november 2024 ballot. among them, a proposal to gradually increase the statewide minimum wage to $18 an hour per the poll from the public policy institute of california as stands right now. 67 1% of california say they are in favor of the proposal. 31% are opposed. as for a proposal that would allow local governments to expand rent control while 2 similar ballot measures failed in recent elections. results from this poll indicate the 3rd time could be the charm. 55% of california say they support the proposal while 43% are opposed. it's a window into role that economic issues >> and cause a living and housing costs are playing in elections. mark baldassare is the poll director, a poll that

found jobs, the economy and inflation rank at the top of the list for a majority of californians is that is what people are experiencing themselves and their own households. but what they're hearing about the broader environment in california is that. cost living is very cost of housing is very and so is his brother here in california this is a tough place to on that note, while just over half of the more than 2,200 people surveyed said they approve of how governor gavin newsom is handling the economy. >> a majority also said they believe the state is headed in the wrong direction. on top of that, more than 6 out of every 10 respondents said they are concerned the next 12 months will bring about challenging economic times for the state with more than 7 in 10 saying they think their children will be worse off in california than their parents. all of that speaks to the fact they can help bring is not just for their own experiences, but what they're seeing going on this day feel like this is becoming affordable place to

live. >> and as for the 2 ballot measures mentioned in this report, while they are set to appear on the general election ballot, november 5th. >> 2024 at the state capitol. a tom wallace kron. 4 news. >> mateo police say they've arrested the driver behind a hit and run that sent a man to the hospital and killed a family dog. it happened friday morning at the intersection of 42nd avenue and edison street. the victim told police he was walking his daughter's dog when a truck hit them and drove away. police later found the truck and the suspected driver in san carlos. investigators are looking for anyone with surveillance footage of this incident. the fbi is investigating after suspicious letters were sent to public officials around the country, including california. they say some of those letters contain fentanyl. most of the letters were sent to election offices. u.s. postal service. officials say they were able to intercept envelopes headed to elections facilities in los angeles and sacramento. and

take a look at the damage after a fire sparked in a mountain view apartment. the city estimating the damage is here to be $25,000. it happened friday morning near the intersection of moffitt boulevard in middlefield road. the city says a faulty electrical panel behind an oven caused the flames. no residents were injured. well, this veterans day, the federal trade commission is warning about charity scams. the ftc says it's important not to assume the caller id on your phone is valid. that could be scammers on the line. make sure you avoid clicking on links in messages or emails without confirming the origin. you can check the legitimacy of any organization by typing in the organization's name and fraud together in a search engine. you can also avoid odd and unusual ways that people are asking you to donate like using gift cards or wire transfers. it supports in-state pretty well together. and a new steakhouse is bringing upscale dining to the home of the warriors san

of this important work. good morning to you guys morning. we're so pleased to have all of you here with just to start tell us a bit about the organization and the goal. yes, so. >> we play service dogs with veterans at no cost to the veteran. we've been established for 12 years now we started at the menlo pahk va and we've spread all over the country from alaska to virginia and we provide social therapy. and our trademark canine assisted warrior therapy, all at local v a's through established wonderful and who did you bring with us of brett? bring to join this morning. yeah, this is ryan. she is a 5 month-old golden retriever puppy and she's one of our service dogs in training and she's incredibly well behaved. you guys got here pretty early this morning and i haven't heard a single bark from her. >> attention has been very well focused on on all of you. tell us a bit perhaps the training process and how you i select the dogs to pair with the veterans. yes, or dogs are in training with us. i'm

starting out and as little as 3 weeks old. so they really start their base training with us all the way up until they're about 2 and a half years old when they get placed as a service dog with us. so their process, you know, like i said, starts at 3 weeks and they learn over 100 commands during that time, 100 commands. so this young, we really focus on socializing, getting them out in new environments and building their confidence and then in that 2 and a half years is really when they're learning all those commands to the nba placed with a veteran one tomorrow and any specific commands that can follow at the with those she yes, she's still very young. she's 5 she is very treat motivated. so she is working on some fun commands. we, you know, all the basic commands. she's learning how to retrieve items. she's learning how to do some fun ones. we have a command called turn where they spend in the circle. yes. so there are a little fun ones, but she's also learning some of service dog tasks as well. yeah, so because our veterans go through so much when there

are, you on the on the road, what is the process of placing the dog with the veteran to make sure that they're a good fit for each yeah, we really look at both sides of the needs of the veteran, of course and what they need in the service dog and also what the dog performs best at. so where will the dog be happiest working and where they really thrive? so we also match on not just personality of the dog and the veteran. but also, you know, where they would work best. yeah, very wonderful. don, you're a veteran what mask when you served united states thank you for your service, sir. and you've been with the organization for how well, i'm very good, but i hope to become a retread. >> and i was introduced to paws for purple hearts through the veterans administration, the va hospital at fort they have a very good program working collaboratively with the >> for purple hearts and they

the center. once those barriers are locked, you are not going to be able to get through this. so we do want to talk about this summit. this essentially equating to the super bowl of world economies, dignitaries from all over the world are in town right now for the apec summit summit starting today. and a town has been a busy getting ready earlier this week. the racy pic flag over san francisco in a ceremony and security barriers have been placed up around stony center and the fairmont hotel. >> the annual apec summit will be the largest international gathering of dignitaries in san francisco since 1945. when the charter creating united nations actually created here, a summit opens up today will go until friday expecting to draw in around 20,000 people into the city and traffic is highly anticipated. we want to talk more about this and show you a map about the areas are going to be impacted most in around the of muskogee center and fairmont hotel traffic will be temporarily blocked off from market to harrison street and 5th street to second street. let's talk about these cake. the green

areas means that this is only for local traffic, the red areas and locators. this is controlled pedestrian traffic and checkpoints. the locations with yellow locators. this is where vehicles will be checked. interstates are also going to be impacted as well. caltrans will be closing part of i-80 later next week at the request of federal law enforcement mayor london breed and city leaders urging the public to avoid roads if possible and take advantage of public transportation. and of course, we do want to talk about this antecipated meeting during the summit will be between president biden and chinese leader xi jingping. the 2 will need on wednesday. however, details about the specific location has not been released about that meeting. and this will be the first time the 2 met face-to-face in nearly a year. they will discuss things important issues like trade, taiwan and the hamas in israel, a war. now the first event is set to start at 1 o'clock this afternoon. we'll have coverage

seen getting away in timber on police say the duo targeted a man at this bank of america atm at strawberry village and followed him to his apartment near janet way. and andrew drive can't believe that they would do that. but i do believe that they would do that, but it's kind of sad for the person that i happen to. >> people who use this atm frequently say they have never felt unsafe when withdrawing money. but after hearing about the robbery, they're on alert. think kind of things are becoming more common. >> and it's not excuses. just certain city, your neighborhood. i think it's anywhere and everywhere. >> this longtime timber on resident who did not want to show her face, says people in this community should not have to live in terror. i'm so sorry for >> his experience and his fear. and he's in the threat. against him. >> timber on police say while the robber demanded the $500 in cash from the victim, a shot was fired. they say a

ricocheted bullet fragment could be responsible for a cut to the man's need after stealing the man's money. the suspects were caught on video driving away in a red kia police later found the suspects in richmond and took them into custody. police departments across the bay area have been warning about atm related robberies. those warnings include scanning the area and watching for suspicious people or activities use atm's located inside the bank following your withdrawal, put cash away immediately. and when leaving an atm, make sure you're not being followed tips. some atm users are already following. >> if i see anybody that doesn't that i just get back in my car just not getting my i stay in my car and drive off. that's my suggestion to everybody. a minute to get off trust. just around. so your car and go to another. you can. >> timber on police also telling us that the victim had to be taken to the hospital for his injury. the 2 suspects are being interviewed about

this case in timber on dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> in alameda, a man is being treated for chemical burns following an apparent explosion at a pool. it happened yesterday morning at a condo complex on shore point court. this is on the west side of the island right across from crown beach. firefighters say the man was servicing the pool. still no word from officials on what triggered the explosion. in the north say one person is dead after being swept into the ocean. this happened friday morning point reyes beach emergency crews tried to save the person. the vicrim was airlifted to the hospital where they later died. meanwhile, francisco fire crews rescue a swimmer after a pier collapsed on him friday morning. take a look at this video. it happened near amador and 3rd street. paramedics arrived on scene and evaluated the swimmer who miraculously did not sustained significant injuries. more bay area tech companies like google and nextdoor announced layoffs this week. but most bay area

economists say things seem to be improving in the tech industry. kron four's dan kerman explains. >> another week, another round of tech layoffs this week. it's google and next door, which is reducing its workforce. 25 1% by laying off 200 employees. still the website layoffs, fy. i shows tech layoffs have been on a steady decline since they peaked in january of this year. tech employment. >> up. from before the pandemic. and nearly a jobs. we're only a few 1000 below the peak. all of the layoffs of happened. but level of tech employment is down only a 20 event. >> steven levy is the director and senior economist at the center for continuing study of the california economy. he says new jobs in ai clean energy and electric vehicles are allowing many of those laid off to find new work. but

euro briefly got 53 going on, antioch over there. 40's inland as we have 50's lighting up the east bay shoreline and mostly upper 40's up north. 56, san francisco. so the satellite picture does show some of these high clouds traversing on by. but what's more interesting is what's going to be in our future here. you can start to see the rotation taking hold. this is coming out of the gulf of alaska, meaning cold air upstairs. we hear this a lot of the winter months and what that means is you've got the stable air below. it starts to rise. you'll get instability and maybe some thunder shower activity out of this towards wednesday. thursday. but this guy's going to sail to the south, not making a beeline toward direction sale south before it meanders its way off to california. that's going get a couple of days to get its act together here. meantime, we've got sunny skies going on for today. pretty sweet at that. some scattered clouds try to work in here as we get into a sunday a little bit there. but the real action doesn't start happening until we get to really about monday. we do see a line out to sea, but it's not going directly impact us

live for us now in moscow, center with more on what we can all expect throughout the week in san francisco. good morning to you. tiffany. >> good morning, stephanie. yes, this area is going to be locked down once is really gets going. but they have already started on this saturday. fencing up the center. you can see there are police officers that have been walking around this building constantly all morning long. this essentially equating to the super bowl of world economies, the dignitaries from all over the world. are in town right now for the apec summit starting today. and the town has been busy getting ready earlier this week. they raise pick flag over san francisco in a ceremony and security barriers have been placed up around county center in the fairmont hotel, the annual apec summer summit will be the largest international gathering of dignitaries in san francisco since 1945. when the charter creating the united nations was actually created here. the summit opens up today will go until friday expecting to dry in 20,000

people into the city and traffic is highly anticipated. we want to talk more about this and show you a map of the area's going to be impacted the most in and around muskogee centered fairmont hotel traffic will be temporarily blocked off from market to harrison street and 5th street to second street green areas means this is only for local traffic, the red areas and locators. this is going to be controlled pedestrian traffic and checkpoints locations with the yellow locators. this is where all vehicles are going to be checked. the interstate will be impacted as well. caltrans will be closing parts of i-80 later next week at the request of federal law enforcement mayor london breed and city leaders urging the public to avoid roads if possible and take advantage of public transportation. we also do want to talk about this. the most anticipated needing that during the summit will be between president biden and the chinese leader ping. the 2 will meet on wednesday, but details about the specific location has not been released yet. this will be the first time the 2 have met face-to-face in nearly a year

$18 an hour for the poll from the public policy institute of california as it stands right now. 67 1% of california say they are in favor of the proposal. 31% are opposed. as for a proposal that would allow local governments to expand rent control while 2 similar ballot measures failed in recent elections. results from this poll indicate the 3rd time could be the charm. 55% of california say they support the proposal while 43% are opposed. it's a window into role that economic and cause a living and housing costs. >> are playing in elections. mark baldassare is the poll director, a poll that found jobs, the economy and inflation rank at the top of the list for a majority of californians is that is what people are experiencing themselves and their own households. but what they're hearing about the broader environment in california is that. cost living is very cost of housing is very and so is

morning at the intersection of 42nd avenue and edison street. the victim told police he was walking his daughter's dog when a truck hit them and drove away. police later found the truck and the suspected driver in san carlos. investigators are looking for anyone with surveillance footage of the incident. the fbi is investigating after suspicious letters were sent to public officials around the country, including california. they say some of those letters contain fentanyl. most of the letters were sent to election offices. u.s. postal service. officials say they were able to intercept envelope headed to elections facilities in los angeles and sacramento. take a look at the damage after a fire sparked in a mountain view apartment. the city is estimating damages at $25,000 here it happened friday morning near the intersection of martha boulevard in middlefield road. the city says a faulty electrical panel behind an oven caused these flames. no residents were injured. and this veterans day, the federal trade commission is warning about

>> yeah, i mean, when we >> on his couch in march, we've been very, very busy as a back cnn part of what we really do that so dear to my heart is we upscale parents and caregivers from the community to become paid literacy and now math to terms with our school district. so we really spent a lot of the spring in the summer recruiting folks and we literally schools, leg. we are at schools in the morning. we're sharing with families like the crisis that we're in, but also sharing the opportunity for our parents and caregivers to really step up in this moment. and that after they recruit, if they participate in a fellowship pay fellowship for several weeks and then they are placed in our school. so we have literacy. tutors. first was elementary, but now we're actually this was case through 8 and now we have a few that are helping some of our highest. the kids in high

school. so we're in a we're going to be a couple high school. so. and what's really exciting as our really been, you know, parents really know their kids need. and ever since the pandemic, we've had family saying we need more math into so we launched our first mac liberate or fellowship. so we a cohort of moms and dads and on who who just finished a fellowship in graduate at the end of october and are now being placed and 06:00am oakland unified school district elementary schools working with 3rd through 5th graders who are a couple of grade levels so it's just a huge opportunity. um, i would also just at we've also had this amazing research rowling alongside our work. and so that research report will be coming out. it's beginning of december. and i think what it's going to show is just the efficacy of the work that our tutors do is like. top notch. you know, having this. type of

role in our schools serving as a leader coming from the community. looking like our kids having a lot of the experiences our kids, but then really being taught to be educators in this way. has just a profound impact on student outcomes. so we'll definitely stay tuned for the details of coming up. numbers were about to go into your and we really want to, you know, this all about making sure kids can read and do math. they can not pick a life of their own design if they do not have the skills we take the stuff for granted. but right now as we speak, we have kids in our schools. they are not going to be set up for this changing economy and tell us about some of the challenges that still exist for children in oakland and why it's so important to involve the parents and that process. >> yeah, i mean. unfortunately in our black and brown communities, we just still have kids who are not on grade level in the pandemic exacerbated that, you know, we're also seeing even with our research that we're getting significant gains with kindergarten students, but we're flat lining with second

graders and a big part of that that second graders kindergartners during the pandemic and so like? but the good thing about having the research is it allows us to have the information we need to shift the conditions to get these kids what they need before they get to 4th grade. you know, there's research that shows that if you're not reading on grade level by 4th grade, you have a 70% chance of being on welfare or going to prison. so, yes, i sleep a little haha. yeah, absolutely. got a lot of things on your mind sure tell us how the community can get involved and support the children. the families out in oakland. >> think there's a couple ways. i mean, stay connected. like, you know, head to oakland, reached out describe to our newsletter because that's really where you're going to be up to date on all the work we do. we have a great communications team. a research report will be coming out early december and then i i'm pretty sure at some point in the spring of next year we're going to be looking to expand more tutor. so

turn now to a police investigation now underway. a timber on man robbed at gunpoint after getting money from atm kron four's. dan thorn has the details. >> police say the victim with through $500 in cash from the bank of america in mill valley. around 3 o'clock friday afternoon. but was unknowingly followed to his home in timber on. and it was there that a man armed with a gun threatened him, stole his money and then took off from the scene. this is the moment a suspected armed robber and his brother were seen getting away in timber on police say the duo targeted a man at this bank of america atm at strawberry village and followed him to his apartment near janet way. and andrew drive can't believe that they would do that. but i do believe that they would do that, but it's kind of sad for the person that i happen to. >> people who use this atm frequently say they have never felt unsafe when withdrawing

the november election. californians are weighing in on 2 measures that have qualified for the november 2024 ballot. among them, a proposal to gradually increase the statewide minimum wage to $18 an hour for the poll from the public policy institute of california as it stands right now. 67 1% of california say they are in favor of the proposal. 31% are opposed. as for a proposal that would allow local governments to expand rent control while to similar ballot measures failed in recent elections. results from this poll indicate the 3rd time could be the charm. 55% of california say they support the proposal while 43% are opposed. it's a window into role that economic and cause a living and housing costs. >> are playing or elections. mark baldassare is the poll director, a poll that found jobs, the economy and inflation rank at the top of the list for a majority of californians is that is what people are experiencing

themselves and their own households. but what they're hearing about the broader environment in california is to. the cost living is very cost of housing is very and so is brother. >> here in california this is a tough place. >> to on that note, while just over half of the more than 2,200 people surveyed said they approve of how governor gavin newsom is handling the economy. a majority also said they believe the state is headed in the wrong direction. on top of that, more than 6 out of every 10 respondents said they are concerned the next 12 months will bring about challenging economic times for the state with more than 7 in 10 saying they think their children will be worse off in california than their parents. all of that speaks to the fact they helped bring is not just for their own experiences, but they're seeing going on in the state. feel like it. >> this is becoming affordable place to live. and as for the 2 ballot measures mentioned in this report, while they are set to appear on the general election ballot, november 5th. >> 2024 at the state capitol.
