thanks for joining us. i'm stephanie rothman. san francisco police are investigating a shooting that ended with one person dead. police say it happened around 07:00pm tonight in the area of 8th and mission in south of market neighborhood. this video from citizen app shows paramedics rendering aid to the victim who despite their life saving efforts died later at the hospital. police say they have detained a possible suspect. they didn't release any other details. and the shooting happened right around the corner from another shooting earlier today that injured one person video from citizen app again shows police earlier today in the area of 11 and norfolk street. no arrests have been made so far. but police say the person shot is at the hospital and expected to be okay. attorney representing oakland mayor sheng thao says he doesn't know why federal agents raided her home on thursday. the mayor hired tourney one day after the fbi agents went into her home in oakland hills. the

lawyer says she's prepared to cooperate with authorities. but so far they have not asked for any questions. kron 4 charles clifford has the details. >>well, local mayor sheng thao has not spoken publicly since federal agents entered her home on thursday morning. but her attorney said on friday that she's willing to cooperate with any investigation and that she has no plans to resign as mayor. they have not informed us that she's the target of anything. attorney tony brass who represents oakland, mayor sheng thao said on friday that so far no one from the fbi, the postal service or the irs. >>has spoken to the mayor about why they searched her home on thursday morning. he says he has no reason to believe the mayor has done anything wrong and that she is ready to answer any questions they might have. there's no indictment. >>there's no arrest warrant for her. so that is that's what's not happened. well, there is a search warrant for a location. >>the fbi has not revealed any specific details about the search. only saying in a statement that the fbi is

conducting court authorized law enforcement activity on maiden lane. we are unable to provide additional information at this time. but sources have told kron 4 that the search may be related to a federal investigation into alleged campaign finance violations. bres says he has no reason to believe the mayor has violated any such rules. >>i know of no reason. i know of no protocols that were not followed that call her ethics into question. their town has not spoken or appeared publicly since thursday morning. brass says that's because she is trying to stay focused on doing her job. she has press in front of her home, which is incredibly distracting. and she has a very high pressure job. he also says that despite some calling on the mayor to step down, she has no intention of doing so. she seems determined to continue to be oakland's mayor and there's no reason why she shouldn't at this point. he also hopes that the public will let the legal process play out before passing judgment. i think that her political opponents we're going to, of course, exploit this. but as far as this

investigation is concerned, just wait and now bres said that he thinks the mayor will probably speak publicly about this at some point next week. but for now in marin, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >>the california waste solutions company, which was also raided by the fbi yesterday, along with oakland mayor sheng thao at the center of a different controversy. as of friday, they are refunding more than 1000 multifamily rental property owners after being sued for overcharging their services. the ref funds are result of 2017 lawsuit by the city of oakland. both sides later sell the case and the company agreed to refund owners of multi-family rental properties. the settlement agreement reduces recycling rates going forward from about $180 down to $35. and staying in oakland, an update on a hit and run. that happened just after midnight. a cyclist was hit by a car has now died. it happened in a residential neighborhood at the cross

streets, a 100th avenue and shoot in court. witnesses told police that the driver of a silver saturn. so dan was speeding when they hit the victim, tossing the cyclists from their bike. they also know that after hitting the victim, the driver stopped or move the bike from under the car and then left the victim was taken to the hospital where he later died. it's unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor with the driver. residents in the area say speeding has been an issue and they noticed the pumps missing that were once there. police are still looking for the driver. while the incident is currently under investigation. and the man that attacked paul pelosi in his home back in 2022. has been found guilty on all charges in the state trial friday. the judge ordered to pap spend life behind bars without the possibility of parole. the san francisco jury found a pap also guilty of first-degree burglary, false imprisonment of an elder threatening a family member of a public official and

dissuading a witness. the additional charges come weeks after a federal judge sentenced a path to 30 years. the pops public defender said he is disappointed with the verdict and plans to appeal it. all. water main break flooded several homes this afternoon there near san francisco's glen park, neighborhood repair crews say large volumes of water were flowing down. harper and randall street. one resident tells us city crews happened in the area recently working to fix the underground pipes for some time. now. >>working the plumbing in the streets have been working on the pipes in the streets for about 7 months now. and they had just finished sealing up the street. this past monday. and this so they're out there again. >>crews say 7 buildings were affected by the flooding. >>memory there kind of compressing a bit. so seeing a little more dense fog right now, but it's not going to

able to penetrate the interior valleys, but that fog has done wonders for firefighters, trying to get a hold of a point fire as the humidity has gone way up. last few days member started out almost as are dry the beginning of this week and came that fog and that changed everything. right now. the sites fire yes, still a little breezy in and around the fire. kind of active out there right now. as we've seen that breeze kicking up this afternoon, 12 to about 50 miles an hour or so. the point, fire the north, you have really kind of fairly light winds, even calm in this very last hour coming out of the north. so that's good news for firefighters. also, we're going to watch the humidity on the way up again now. and that's already starting voice, not said onshore breeze. the fog start to move in the even 90% aisles in the oakland. 56% in santa rosa. but overnight tonight because very wet the atmosphere again, even though we've got high pressure overhead, we're talking places well over 90% over 90% in the santa rosa in and around that fire. so that's some good news ahead. finally dries out tomorrow afternoon. tomorrow afternoon, things could be a little more active with that, especially the sites fire. it

>>as summer kicks off here in california, researchers are attacking the sharks that swim in the waters off our beaches to keep track of them. with the help of new tacking technology, lifeguards will be alerted when sharks come too close for comfort. nancy loo got in the water to see it all firsthand. >>coming this coming this that's a big shark. that's a big shark with the help of drone technology, it usually never takes long for the shark lab team to spot new research subjects with news nation on board near the coast of santa barbara. >>researchers find and tag an 11 foot great white in a matter of minutes.

>>why the tagging and how does that help? >>well, one of questions is where all the sharks coming from. why did they come to these beaches? what are they doing at those beaches? and what the lakers want to know is one of the going to leave. so the way we can answer that is through >>conservation efforts have worked in replenishing the shark population and now its birthing season just as warmer weather has more people venturing into the oceans. those are major factors which have increased the chances of accidental encounters. experts say there's still much more to learn about shark behavior, but what's already known is they are not after us. humans clearly are not on the shark's menu. >>because if we were, then all these populated beaches would be a costco for sharks. white sharks are around people all the time in southern california and they're not bothering anybody. so what that means is we're learning to share the ocean even though they're coming back. the

san francisco department of public health says overdose deaths are now on the decline last month. 66 people died from a drug overdose. that's compared to 73 deaths in may of last year. the department credits a new night navigator program that sends health experts out late at night with the decrease kron four's. rob nesbitt explains how it works. >>doctors with the department of health in san francisco talk today about buprenorphine micro do saying which they consider to be an innovative way to treat fentanyl addiction. san francisco's

night navigator program has been in the works since march every night from 08:00pm to midnight in the tenderloin health experts connect people struggling with addiction treatment. we conducted approximately 440 in the field. nighttime telehealth visits, director of behavioral health and mental health in san francisco. doctor hilary cummins says micro dosing buprenorphine has been one of the most successful forms of treatment of people. north phoenix, one of the 2 most highly effective medications. and reduces the risk of overdose deaths by approximately 50%. the other medication as methadone. but there are strict regulations on who can prescribe that medication. doctor joanna eveland is a chief medical officer for people experiencing homelessness and for people who use drugs. she says that people nor feeing helps decrease the withdrawal symptoms that someone struggling with addiction experiences when they stop using harmful drugs. we know the printing is a highly effective medication for controlling cravings. >>my patients who are taking different if report that they feel normal and stable, they can go back to work. they can

take care of their families. the night navigator program does not just work to provide drug treatment in tenderloin. doctor eveland is oftentimes on the other end of the phone during telehealth calls me late at night. >>working to remove the barriers that someone struggling with addiction. my face, they need an id. if they need help getting their insurance updated if they need transportation to the pharmacy as well as offering hotel rooms or access to a shelter bed for someone experiencing homelessness at the same time as an addiction to fentanyl. in addition to the night navigator program, the city also provides treatment would be >>many senators on capitol hill are fired up after seeing the surgeon general's off at on social media warning labels. democrats and republicans say the dangers of social media want congressional action and are ready to cooperate with them ministration to do just that. washington correspondent basil john has the details. >>social media has designed today is a dangerous product. south carolina republican senator lindsey graham says

it's about time congress take action against the dangers of social media after the surgeon general called for social media warning labels until we support what he's saying. the only way to implement warning labels of any kind is their congressional action. and graham says the numbers justify it. we've seen suicide rates among teenage girls. younger population and he's not alone as some democrats like new york senator kirsten gillibrand. see this as the opportunity for congress to do something. we have to keep trying. and i think that surgeon general's approach is a good step. >>juul brand is also pushing for regulation because of criminal organizations target kids online by posing as young girls and solicit nude photos for ransom and say we to publish these. if you don't give us money. and one young boy, a 17 just succumb to suicide because of that in his 3 years in the role of the surgeon general has spoken to lawmakers about social media

argentina, 1985, which was nominated for an oscar 2 years ago. i went off and did my acting career. so. the perfect moment and situation came to make. do we not see other? so it's fantastic that 2 great minds can really come together and create something so special. want to tell us a bit about your film and the story. >>that's basically a movie that deals this director of the sort 40 something director who's making a film about something that happened his childhood. his first love and he's having trouble with finishing his and so we go back in time and we see what happened. when he in love with with another boy in 1997. i don't international school. and so it's kind of like the impasse ability of of that first love. but also all these exaggerating exaggerated emotions that you have when

you're a teenager and you funnel for the first time. and so it's almost like seeing an insect bar. you know, when when something is caught in time, memories caught and he's from and es in his memory. so he wants to make it into a movie. and so we go back and forth between the 2 time lines between argentina. and it to be, which is where the school was. so it's a very international 2 story and cast. we have actors from. con like 15 different i think do as well. so it's in spanish and great. so there will some titles. i i assume. >>definitely titles and one, you what i want to make sure we get this information out there. of course, with the time that we do have left, when is the film screening and how can people get more information about it? e film screening this sunday, june 23rd 08:30pm, the palace of fine arts in

>>let's talk page and from our sister station in fresno. >>4 year-old christian ramirez was found safe earlier this morning after going missing for than 24 hours. the fresno county sheriff's office telling us that they couldn't be happier with the outcome of the search. his family. very

emotional, obviously. so it's it's great. you know, we don't always have happy endings to on thursday around 11 in the morning, the ramirez family called authorities to report their 4 year-old son christian ramirez was missing. he was out in the woods who's in a very thick wooded area and he was out there all night as far is overnight stuff, we have spend some time with the kids. the kids really shaken up today. he was hungry. nearly 100 people took part in search efforts that went on into the night. the fresno county sheriff's office search and rescue team air support unit forest service rangers and california fish and wildlife officers were all involved in the search having him checked out by medical staff because last night he was out all night, the almonds and all those hot in the valley. pretty cool of her last night in the killer's scent t-shirt. we're the only local station there when christian was found in a heavily wooded area near his camp site and brought down the hill by rescue crews. the sheriff's office is not saying how he managed to get. there were so happy to be able to

found alive. it's great. it's really just a great result of the team effort of our search and rescue personnel. again, they worked all night long looking for this kid. and again into the morning, we had many counties that came to help with mutual aid. the ramirez family hit the road back to their home in southern california earlier today. >>reporting in huntington lake, jason talked a ksee. 24 local news that matters >>it's one of the best times really to experience nature showing off. but officials worry that too many hikers are underestimating the hot weather now that it's summer. shelby nelson has more from mount faulty, how to stay safe outdoors. >>hi there. yeah. so often we're talking about hikers safety. that's what we've got snow in our local mountains. i see terrain the storms rolling in, but it's just as important when temperatures start to heat up, especially because rescue teams are getting lots of calls in recent weeks. >>and that was about a little

after 4. i think and i saw a bunch rescue trucks come up. >>and then the helicopter came and was circling trying to find them. >>it's bridget hines saw as she was camping at maker flats and male ball the wednesday. the west valley search and rescue team coming to the aid of a 49 year-old escondido woman who went rip helling alone at the top of san antonio falls. her first descent was successful, but the second is where she got into some trouble on the second time. >>she was having some difficulty with one of the ropes and as she stepped down at the bottom, she got her foot wedged between 2 large rocks and she was trying to remove her foot from the rocks or lake snapped with a broken leg. the woman was hoisted to a nearby dam there. an ambulance picked her up and took her to a hospital. it was a sheer stroke of luck that she could reach first responders in an area that's usually a dead zone for cell service that the text to 9-1-1, getting go through.

it's are nice all my strength of as well in santa monica. those on vacations a the weather here is much better than back home, raining, cloudy and this is a nice break. this weather is nice and warm because in germany is cool as cold with some spots hitting triple digits this weekend. there is an increased risk of heat related illness. so stay hydrated out of the sun. take advantage of air conditioning and don't leave children or pets alone in a vehicle. no, i'm just trying to stay yeah, we have tickets for soap city, but understand i don't like summer. that's just watch. movies could eat inside. and that's >>and if you are planning on heading to the beach to cool off several locations, including around the pier in santa monica have elevated bacteria levels in the water. so it's best to avoid swimming, surfing and playing in the water. i mean, california is known for its beaches. it's kind surprising that people are not allowed to

get whatever. i was at something you guys are planning on while you were here. i know they want to surfaces. so haha. >>rennes somebody today and they're out near the coastline. they said where the heat. i said no, you're not going to get any of that heat. it is going to stay cool along the coastline, but places inland. you can watch as temperatures soar that going to keep it cool enough of a seabreeze keep the temperatures down coast side. but that hot, dry desert air begin to build in as that ridge starts to move in from the desert back into california. that's generally how we got he waves during the summer months here and it's going to hot spots inland. temperatures expected to soar mihir triple digit heat. i think the interior valleys. all these areas shaded in orange here. they are currently under advisory for heat as we get toward tomorrow afternoon. those hot temperatures going to soar not only there but really around the state. so hot weather on tap, at least for the first part of the weekend. and then we watching switch gears again. we're going to cool off a hurry. starting on sunday, a starter sea breeze kicking in.

that's going to drop the temperatures down almost 10 degrees from saturday's highs numbers in francisco. you have no heat wave there. 63 downtown temp cisco, 60 in the sun set up toward the beaches. you got some that patchy fog. you see a little more sunshine tomorrow. but a plan to cool. 15 60's along the coast. 77 degrees on burning game headed for the south. those temperatures warming up in her. the south bay under that heat advisory tomorrow afternoon as highs. 93 in campbell, 90 in san jose. 92 degrees in morgan hill place to get your triple digits inland by tomorrow afternoon over the east bay hills may be as hot as 103 in bremen 97 in concord. so enough.that's for sure. 94 in fairfield back toward the coastline. cooling off just a bit. but nice weather as we head into the first weekend of summer cooling down quite a bit on sunday with more low clouds and fog making a return that everybody really watch those temperatures dip as we head toward the middle of next week. >>wildfires are continuing to burn across our state. but fighting the fire is only half the battle caught at stephanie and spoke with cal. oh, yes, about how mutual aid is

helping crews secure the resources needed before the firefighters can begin the work. >>we're here at a fire station with sacramento fire where resources like this are, oh, so crucial to knocking out fires in our area. but when it comes to wildfires, it's a whole different ballgame or cali estes to figure out how divvy up resources to get that fire extinguished. >>firefighters and fire engines have been moving throughout the state in support of though, while fire fighting efforts. >>we're hearing of many fires raging across the state to name a few. the post fire in la county. the sites fire in the central valley and the arrow fire in calaveras county. but with high heat forecasted for this weekend, concerns are looming. what this could mean for current fires. and if this could fuel new ones. cal oes broke down what their deployment of resources has looked like. >>right now, the california fire service has deployed about 250 fire engines. 2

democrats are planning to boycott speech next month by israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. house speaker mike johnson announced this week the prime minister will address a joint session of congress next month. this is angering some congressional democrats who say israel is committing war crimes. washington correspondent vinay simlot spoke with one member plans boycott. >>but i feel about a month away from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's planned address to congress that we need peace in the region, not escalating war. texas representative greg casar says he won't attend. democratic senator elizabeth warren representative jim clyburn and representative ro khanna told the hill dot com bill set out to because our says he's unhappy with israel's response to the october 7th attack, hamas terrorists killed 1200 people and took 250 hostages to gaza. since then, the palestinian health ministry says israel's

reports of a man pointing a gun and motorists and thing with an officer opening fire

and striking the suspect. it all happened early friday morning. kron four's philippe reports on the incident. thankfully the suspect is expected to survive. >>34 year-old man is in stable condition at a hospital after being shot, at least once by newark police officer. it all happened around 4.30, this morning. that's when police were responding to reports of man pointing what they believed to be a real gun that motorists on the 5800 block of jarvis avenue when officers responded, they found the man outside of a chevron gas station. >>and at some 0.1 officer opened fire hitting the man at least one time. the man was rendered aid by the police officers on scene and then was transported to a hospital. and it is expected that he's going to survive. the firearm was later determined to be a replica of a glock pistol. >>it is identical to a standard issue. glock pistol

said those with domestic violence restraining orders can be barred from having a gun. this ruling is a huge relief for women and children in this country. emma brown with the gun violence prevention group. giffords says if justices had overturned the law, it could have been catastrophic for survivors of domestic violence. the fact that we are litigating and talking about whether or not people at the mystic violence, restraining orders should have firearm access is ridiculous. the decision reverses a lower court ruling that said a texas man who hit and threatened to shoot his girlfriend could have a gun. >>syracuse law professor lauren golden didn't expect the court to rule in his favor. he was. >>reportedly seen dragging his then girlfriend out of the car by her hair in his opinion, justice roberts wrote, quote, since the founding our nation's firearm laws have included provisions preventing individuals who threatened physical harm to others from misusing firearms. i think this is the right decision.
