for unity. she leaned into initially a lot of stories about her growing up sharing stories of her family. harris says she promises to be a president for everybody that you will use common sense. she will listen to everyone. one of the lines that got a huge reaction from the audience. she promise to about a peaceful transition of power. eventually that led into a scathing focus donald trump saying that there would be chaos and danger if he's re-elected saying at one point, imagine donald trump with no guardrails. the backdrop here remember is really fairly incredible. kamala harris essentially inheriting nomination 4 weeks before the convention as far as her 45 minute speech goes, i want to go back to our political expert, david mcewan, who is still with us. there.

11:47 pm
she did 2 things that were difficult. she talked about the embrace of israel. a very difficult issue for many 18 to 34 year-old voters and she talked about moving the palestinian people forward about a movement to recognize that's a very dicey, difficult, potato not just for those younger voters, but for all democratic voters. she went right into that. and that's difficult. that also sets aside. she did spend a lot of time talking about donald trump, the threat to democracy and the importance of that. also important. but she also set forth how different she is from a different she is from barack obama. and she did allow that turning of the page by talking about the embrace of the fight, reminding everyone of her mother lineage and to actually do something. akin are back to michelle obama. all of that accomplishes the task and she keep that magic and momentum going. look beyonce were there and of
11:48 pm
taylor swift where there? yes, but they did have kind of some bumps there at the end in terms of the balloon drop. what comes next and the challenge will be going to those swing states and the next couple of days to keep that momentum going. it's going to be hard, but they've had a really magical 4 weeks. no doubt. yeah, you know, there's that rumor beyonce fans who really got up about it. but she coming up, which not coming up. so i think at the end, i mean, even people in the newsroom were saying, no, no, she'll be out there. well, know, beyonce, but maybe it didn't matter. >>she was fairly tight. this was a 35 minute speech. much shorter than biden's much shorter than trump's. and i think that in itself is a smart david. yeah, i mean, she had she had like calm everyone down at the beginning because she wanted to get started. that was, you know about 33 after the hour. it's 9.30, in chicago. he wants to be talking to those voters in the midwest, on the east coast across the country. so she had the kind of push people back
11:49 pm
and say, look, we have work to keeping a tight. 35 minutes is hugely important. you don't want to give a 93 minute speech like donald trump. did we lose in the audience when he was in milwaukee? we don't want to just kind of keep going late show biden did on monday night. you've got to leave the audience a little bit hungry for more. >>and in that sense, going for 35 minutes going in dropping these key elements and then getting out. that's important. stylistically, here's where i think it's also important. it shows how kamala harris has grow she ran and was the a g when she was u.s. senator. and when she was running to be the democratic nominee for president, she wasn't ok candidate, but she often wasn't and disciplined candidate just by going a little bit farther and doing a little too much. he didn't see that she's grown at every component that makes or a difficult opponent for donald trump and how they adjust, which also again sets up that first debate, which should just be fascinating to watch.
11:50 pm
>>oh, ok, well, you read my mind. i was going to say what heaven's name? is that gonna look like? i mean that is going to be fascinating. a trump harris debates. yeah, it'll be fascinating because donald trump likes move from 2 from the head right next to be. >>fast and loose about what he's doing. he likes to give and take things to build off the audience kind of the emotion of the fight. she is a discipline prosecutor and that movement of going up and up and up and building the case. that's for professional train over decades south audi. she's prosecute the case that professional training and adapt or respond to the guy who's shooting from the hip and playing fast and loose. that's a little bit of a challenge. and so therefore, her team is going to talk about her prosecutorial experience, that they need her in some ways to on stylistically about how they respond, what she when donald trump gives his quips or has
11:51 pm
is meandering kind of components where she can jump in. and that i think will take a little bit of practice on her part because it's not the methodical prosecutorial background that she it's much more politics of the moment. can he do that and how will she respond? and that will be, i think, fascinating to watch the remember the science none of this matters, right? we all say, hey, look, debates don't matter. clearly they do. they change fundamentally this race. and so what happens on september 10th trust, fireworks beyond what we can now will. this was a dynamic speech, of was scripted. anything that you saw here that would lend itself to. >>changing your thoughts and how she'll perform at a debate. well, yeah, i did see this is the speech of her life. she filled that void. stylistically, she did it. she responded to the audience. >>she stay really disciplined to the message. she stayed disciplined to getting this thing rolling. you know, she's taking this moment. the saddle
11:52 pm
asian from the diehard fans of the democratic party. but she stops for a moment and recognize this year anniversary. the family, she then goes into an elephant discussion about her mother and mother's drive and you need and what that looked like. she talked about a sister who introduces she took those elements that will personal. it's genuine. yes, that is bron 5 and tim walz. that is an element that's a little bit different here. and it was part of the no drama obama kind of component unison. obama contrasted with the no drama obama. if you can read that, you don't envy different. and this is why she's not hillary clinton and not breaking glass ceilings. she's a new face and a new time and that's their message. and so far that's riding high with voters. is it enough to win the presidential election? >>in 75 days, that's obviously the ultimate test, ok? we're running out of time. i have one quick final question. looking at all 4 days, david, what was the key message?
11:53 pm
>>yeah, the key message, actually, katherine about unity. the key message was starting with contrast wrapping up with joe biden talking about accomplishments moving forward with clinton moving forward with the obamas. >>but unity is the message why that's important. this is a base get together. the faithful are there. you know, those democrats in chicago are there the protests are going on, but nobody really knew about them are paying attention. it's not 68. it is really about unity. and that's all about the swing vote and rust belt and sun belt states. and that is where the election is join and those 15 to 20 counties in that's no swing districts about unity of us and the development of us not to contrast that you first me or us versus them. >>all right. david, you are such a good sport. thank you for hanging in here throughout the entire speech. vice

time today, 12 to 13 degrees. cooler in some of the interior valleys. even 7 degrees cooler in san jose. so number of worked out like this today, 69 in san francisco, 73 in oakland, 77 in san jose. only 74 well below the average in livermore, 77 conquered 81 degrees in santa rosa. well, we can see what's causing the change here. this low pressure center very unusual for this kind of storm to rolling out the gulf of alaska this early in the season. but here we go, settling in bringing some scattered showers. not going to be huge storm by any means, but they're going to see good rain in northern california with the chance of a few scattered showers here. all right. here's where it gets really interesting. this area of low pressure dropping down the coastline. that's unusual to see a deep low like that at this time of year. but that's going to kick eastward. and as it does by sunday, we start to go the other direction of a sudden you see those northerly winds. we're going to really begin to heat things up outside, high pressure, going to build in and next week. boy, so much for rain. we're talking about temperatures. well in the 90's getting near 100 degrees in some of the interior valleys. a big change

coming our way. those clouds will thicken up overnight tonight, even a chance of some light sprinkles tomorrow morning. and then by the afternoon, another chance of some sprinkles then more. so i think as we get in towards saturday morning, none of its going to be very large, just a chance. some light showers around the bay area. and so maybe a few 107 inch of rain. and that is about it. but for this time of year, that's very, very impressive. all right. temperatures for tomorrow. looking like this. you're gonna see highs. really? pretty comfortable. 70's inland 60's along the coastline. a little muggy out there, too. as a low kind of swings by don't be surprised if you see a sprinkle next couple days. i think the best chance of any real rain probably early in the morning on saturday morning. then that clears out and look at that as we get toward the middle of next week. talking temperatures well in the 90's and some of the valleys and back to the heat. so enjoy this nice cool down. >>and that doesn't here for us at kron-on will be back with the morning news at nie rothman for watching.
