>> kron four's gayle ong reports. >> just after 3.30, saturday afternoon, they're just go. police responding to a shooting in the area of gary and grand avenue in union square. the victim forty-niners rookie wide receiver ricky pearsall word quickly spreading to football fans like stephen gardner just came around the corner early play >> sot all taped off and looks like a guns on sidewalk up there. police officers taking pictures it. so >> bystanders watched as investigators combed the scene for evidence leading up to the shooting. >> he was walking along when a suspect approached him and attempt to commit to commit an armed robbery using a got a struggle between mr. pearce, all in the suspect ensue and the suspect's gun. gunfire from the suspect. skies truck both mr. pearsall and the subject. francisco police chief bill scott says pearsall was shot in the chest. the suspect a 17 year-old boy from tracy was arrested after trying to run away from the

scene. >> pearsall and the suspect were taken to the hospital. mayor london breed crediting the officers. quick response. >> their work ensures that people know that if they come to san francisco to commit crimes, they will be arrested. everyone says san francisco is like going down. it's sketchy, but there's a lot of people out here. awesome and i love the city. and, you know >> come together rally around pearsall and, you know, hopefully stuff like this doesn't happen again. >> and that was kron four's gayle ong reporting for u.s. district attorney brooke jenkins says her office expects to make a charging decision sometime next week. and those charges will be filed in juvenile court. community reaction to that shooting continues to pour in this morning. the forty-niners releasing this statement that pearsall sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition. we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. our

thoughts and prayers are with ricky in the entire here saw family. forty-niners star player deebo samuel tweeted saying, quote, he's good. thank god. even as a rookie pearsall was expected to make a significant impact with the forty-niners this season. the niners drafted or rather they selected him with the 31st overall pick in this year's draft out of the university of florida during training camp, he faced some injury setbacks. he was unable to play in all 3 preseason games before the shooting saturday. pearsall had been signing autographs at the cow we are working to learn more about a plane crash in the north bay. this photo was sent to us by a viewer in novato. the ntsb confirmed a plane crashed into the hangar just before 4 saturday afternoon shortly after takeoff. the family of a berkeley man confirmed he was killed in the gaza strip while being held hostage by hamas. 23 year-old israeli american hersh goldberg-polin was among

court case. but all questions center way or about the case against marquese cooper who is no longer being charged in connection to the death of officer 20 officer 20 lay was memorialized earlier this year by the oakland police department. >> after he was shot and killed in the line of duty. these 4 men were eventually charged in connection to his murder. but on wednesday, alameda county district attorney pamela price is office dismissed the charges for marquese cooper. so he was facing burglary charges. >> those charges were dismissed today without prejudice and the investigation of his role and his conduct is continuing. da price says that the charges against cooper were lesson for murder charges to burglary charges earlier this month. >> before being completely dismissed wednesday, a change that is being met with criticism by the police officers union saying, quote, the oakland police officers association is concerned by the office of district attorney pamela price and its decision to drop all charges against suspect marquese cooper who was involved in the murder of our fellow officer

>> starting in october, all traffic related ticket hearings in san francisco moves to the civic center courthouse. the changes come after 70 misdemeanor cases were recently dismissed because they had gone past the deadline when a defendant can request a speedy trial. zoom hearings can also be requested for traffic violations. hearings at the new locations start october 7th. all right, live look outside at this gorgeous view right here to see the city of san francisco just out there in the distance there on the right-hand side of your screen. what a beautiful sight to wake up to to, to date date. it is that it is and a lot more sunshine to start off we bargained for.

abortion access in the state. >> reporter mills hayes has the latest. >> we want to produce babies in this country, right? we want to produce abortion and ivf treatments now at the forefront of the 2024 race in florida where republican presidential nominee donald trump lives. there's a six-week abortion ban in place with exceptions for rape and incest. but there's an amendment on the ballot that would protect abortion rights come the 2024 election. trump on thursday suggesting that he would vote in favor of the amendment. i think the six-week is too short. >> it has to be more time. and so that's and told them that i want more weeks. so you'll vote in favor of the voting that i'm going to be voting, that we need more than 6 weeks. just a day later in a separate interview, trump backtracked saying that he would be voting no using ad bone gop talking point about widely available abortions in the 9th month as his reason, according to cdc data, only one percent of abortions in 2021. happened at or after 21

from home. san ramon valley unified says due to the nationwide teacher shortage, 10 special education classes are without a full-time credentialed teacher. so the district placed credentialed substitute teachers in the physical classroom but also contracted teachers to tele conference into the room for the full school year. the decision caught a few parents by surprise, less than a week before the start of the school year. >> lot of us parents were sort of like what the heck, you know, it's hard enough to get our kids into a program where they're able to foley be learn we can't wait. you know, every day that our kids are not getting the help, that they deserve their falling back in dressing. and i do see that in my daughter already only having been in school for, you know, we can have 2 weeks. >> the district says it has entered into a partnership with saint mary's college of california to create a program that pays graduate students to earn their credentials. some changes coming to south bay classroom. san jose unified schools are limiting cell phone use for students. the district says the move helps prevent distractions from

social media. text messaging and other notifications. wo class is in session. california superintendent now calling for all school districts state-wide to limit cell phone use in schools. educators say there is growing evidence of students experiencing mental health issues when they spent too much time on their phones last year. a survey from pew research center showed a 3rd of students but more peaceful when they were not on their devices. state bill to limit and possibly ban smart phones in classrooms is heading to governor gavin newsom's desk. lawmakers passed the phone-free schools act earlier this week. the bipartisan bill requires all public schools to come up with a policy by july 2026. to either limit or ban the use of smartphones during the school day. first students at san francisco state university have a new dorm rooms. so state added more than 750 beds to their new 6 story housing facility. the housing project got 116 million dollars from california's affordable

deputies say they were able to calm the man down once they arrived and he was taken to a hospital. investigators found several stolen guns and illegally made weapons at the home and the equipment used to make those weapons. no word yet on any charges. santa rosa police found stolen weapons friday night in a home on cypress way. they recovered shotguns, pistols, even a grenade. 28 year-old cases are now ski is accused of stealing the weapons. these were found when officers served a warrant and searched his home. he's been booked into jail and is facing several felony weapons and theft charges. a police dog helped officers find 100 pounds of crystal meth leading to a man's arrest in san luis obispo. the chp sharing photos of the drugs found in the man's car thursday morning. the driver is from salinas and was booked into jail. the estimated street value of the drugs is $120,000. a super dog and still ahead, passions running high inside the state

sunday forecast today. but what do you keep an eye on? a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and i'll tell it's some sweet stuff this sunday because a. >> this fog businesses really peeling away very quickly this morning for most of the bay. so we're getting the sunshine part of the equation. and yet we're not going to get the intrusion of the really hot stuff. that's coming our way tle break from summer here. skews me a half moon bay. you can see some cloud cover still left over here a little bit. but so often we see this imagery in the morning hours and it's overcast. this time we have little bit of breaks already happening in the clouds there. so already looking up from the perspective of the beach of the coast, meanwhile, temperatures are kind of flirting with some 60's going on here is particularly along the east bay shoreline, little cooler inland because you've got some radiational cooling overnight. so we're in the 50's there a bit as well as the peninsula. 63 to check in for san jose are winds continue on shore and that'll be the case all day today. picking up a little bit with the daytime heating and that's all in the right direction here. there is a slight possibility maybe by monday

watched as investigators combed the scene looking for evidence >> and i just came around the corner really quick and it's on all taped off looks like it dawns on sidewalk up there. police officers taking pictures it. so. >> da brooke jenkins says her office expects to make a charging decision sometime next week. charges will be filed in juvenile court. accused of stealing a car and causing an accident. on i-80 friday night has been arrested and jailed. it happened in san pablo year. the el portal drive exit citizen app video shows at least 3 cars engulfed in flames right there after crashing into the center divide on friday night. police say the suspect sped past a traffic stop and then crashed while driving in the wrong direction. he faces charges, including car theft. and a little police are looking for 2 people who tried to break into a home on sage way friday afternoon. officers say the suspects smashed one of the windows in the call in the home and ran off when officers

arrived. investigators are hoping for leads from the public. and a dramatic day at the state capitol as lawmakers advanced hundreds of bills to the governor. governor's desk ahead of a midnight deadline. but a lot of attention was focused on to reparations bills that never came up for a vote. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace explains. >> well, demonstrators came here to the capitol to demand lawmakers take up a pair of specific preparations, bills for a vote. but in the end, that to not actions running high inside the state capitol, more than 30 demonstrators gathering in the rotunda to call on lawmakers to take up in advance to bill to the governor's desk. >> specifically involving reparations for descendants of enslaved black americans. the first bill would create will be known as the california american seamen affairs agency in charge of overseeing the

reparations process in california. the second bill would fund reparation related policies approved by the legislature and governor gardena democratic senator steven bradford, author both bills and wants to see them advance. they do not come up for a vote by the legislative deadline just before midnight on saturday. they'll be debt for the rest of the year. we're at the finish and i think we as a black caucus to the descendants child slavery, we owe it to block california into black americans move this legislation forward and get to the governor's deaths. but the newsom administration want to bradford to make changes to trim the bill. >> into a cow state university related study of the reparations process. >> the newsom administration also called for bradford's bill to further look into who could be eligible for reparations payments for his part, bradford said he rejected both proposed amendments, noting the california reparations task force that met over the last 2 years already did with the newsom administration asked for we want to move the bill if ford has it. but the

majority of members in the california legislative black caucus that will not be happening. they say they were not told about the proposed amendments until the last minute and added the bills need work. quote, the caucus was unable to participate in the legislative process collectively and only recently became aware of the concerns and issues with the bills demonstrators at the capitol furious upon hearing the bills will not advance these bills foundational to repertory justice here in the state of california. the caucus must bring these bill to the floor today for us is betrayal. all black americans in california greenies danville's bring the bills we deserve a vote at least that the lease and weeks. >> we see even be here right now. is crazy that we got to be to make all people locally owned and is crazy. >> and to be clear, several other reparations bills did pass this year, including one calling for the state of california to issue a formal

lot dui drivers, people not wearing their seat belts, you know, safety things and just going out there and trying to make the roads a little bit safer for everybody that's going out and enjoying the the labor day holiday. this guy right here, we're going to stop him. >> throughout the fox 40 right along officer danielson pulled over 3 drivers, too, for driving in the center divider, crossing the double yellow lines to get into a left turn lane. so i stopped you because you're passing in that center. turn lane tickets for both of those violations. i need you to sign in the at the red x. but after pulling over a driver who danielson says his steering wheel while driving at a high rate of speed he made sure the driver wasn't driving under the influence and the officer let him go. there's decent people out there and is it is not even the decent people is just like. >> sometimes don't feel like writing a ticket, you know, but i want to make sure that they're not drunk were impaired. so there's a violation that's there. there's there's a reason to pull him over. i pull him over and i just want to make sure that they're ok to drive.

mateo county sheriff's deputies seize more than 80 rifles from a man they say was having a mental health breakdown. the guns were recovered from a home in san mateo eichler highlands neighborhoods friday. deputies say they were able to calm the man down once they arrive and he was taken to the hospital. investigators found several stolen guns and illegally made weapons at the home. also, the equipment used to make them no word yet on any charges. santa rosa police found stolen weapons friday night in a home on cypress way. they recovered shotguns, pistols and even a grenade. 28 year-old cases are now ski is accused of stealing the weapons. those were found

the suspects smashed one of the windows of the home and ran off when officers arrived. investigators are hoping for leads from the public. and a dramatic day at the state capitol as lawmakers advanced hundreds of bills to the governor's desk ahead of a midnight deadline. but a lot of attention was focused on to reparations bills that never came up for a vote. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace explains. >> well, demonstrators came here to the capitol to demand lawmakers take up a pair of specific preparations, bills for a vote. but in the end, that to not actions running high inside the state capitol. more than 30 demonstrators gathering in the rotunda to call on lawmakers to take up in advance to bill to the governor's desk. >> specifically involving reparations for descendants of enslaved black americans. the first bill would create will be known as the california american seamen affairs agency in charge of overseeing the

reparations process in california. the second bill would fund reparation related policies approved by the legislature and governor gardena democratic senator steven bradford, author both bills and wants to see them advance. they do not come up for a vote by the legislative deadline just before midnight on saturday. they'll be debt for the rest of the year. we're at the finish and i think we as a black caucus or to the descendants child slavery, we owe it to block california into black americans move this legislation forward and get to the governor's deaths. but the newsom administration want to bradford to make changes to trim the bill. >> into a cow state university related study of the reparations process. >> the newsom administration also called for bradford's bill to further look into who could be eligible for reparations payments for his part, bradford said he rejected both proposed amendments, noting the california reparations task force that met over the last 2 years already did with the newsom administration asked for we want to move the bill ford has it. but the majority

heat, spike action least not yet. and there are some scattered clouds making their appearance and hear why we kept that in the forecast. just these marine layer clouds here just a bit there you can see the sunshine filling up the east bay shoreline. if you're headed up to tahoe, the forecast calls for that climb as well. back to the business of the 80's by the middle of the week. so it is short sleeve shirt weather. probably a lot of folks that going up. there was already up there, though, coming back to the heat's bike here in bay area as we get to early next week, mid to lower 60's, you can see lighting up the east bay shoreline for now 50 still holding on up north 65 san jose and 60. meanwhile, 4 san francisco, so longer-range, what happens? well, that low was nice to have around gave us a little break and everything. but by wednesday, this high builds its not the ideal spot with a nice big bubble right overhead that we've seen a lot this summer. so it's not perfect. no complaints, of course. but the other issues to watch this pesky little low here little late. it is to break the back of this heat spike. but hey, glad to come by thursday.

>> yeah, i had the privilege of not doing at museum all afternoon and i have to say there were a lot of dinosaur enthusiast there building, know, t rex killed these phone blocks, there were dinosaurs and go bombshell i could see that the kids are having a lot of fun with that. there's a dinosaur more intel. and then, of course, i think one of the highlights is the fact that this film will be playing throughout the day in the film really is special. i mean, i've been a part of a number of a bill in the in the past, but this one is special because the film crew giant screen films was with us. from the moment we have allies. doing it. t rex to big black hawk helicopter extraction of the 6,000 pound beast. so all of those emotions, whelan was i just it's just a real authentic film. and it's one

accused of stealing a car and causing an accident on i-80 friday night has been arrested and jailed. it happened in san pablo near the el portal. el portal drive exit citizen app. video shows at least 3 cars engulfed in flames. as you can see right there after crashing into the center divide on friday night. police say the suspect sped past a traffic stop and then crashed while driving in the wrong direction. he faces charges, including car theft. and a little police are looking for 2 people who tried to break into a home on sage way friday afternoon. police say the suspects smashed one of the windows of the home and ran off when officers arrived. investigators are hoping for leads from the public. and a dramatic day at the state capitol as lawmakers advanced hundreds of bills to the governor's desk ahead of a midnight deadline. but a lot of attention was focused on to reparations bills that never came up for a vote. capitol correspondent eytan wallace explains. >> well, demonstrators came

to the descendants child slavery, we owe it to block california black americans to move this legislation forward and get to the governor's desk. but the newsom administration want to bradford to make changes to trim the bill into a cow state university related study of the reparations process. >> the newsom administration also called for bradford's bill to further look into who could be eligible for reparations payments for his part, bradford said he rejected both proposed amendments, noting the california reparations task force that met over the last 2 years already did with the newsom administration asked for we want to move the bill if ford has it. but the majority of members in the california legislative black caucus said that will not be happening. they say they were not told about the proposed amendments until the last minute and added the bills need work. quote, the caucus was unable to participate in the legislative process collectively and only recently became aware of the concerns and issues with the bills demonstrators at the capitol furious upon hearing the bills
