in san francisco. the niners officially placed purcell on the reserve non-football injury list today. he's currently recovering at home and he was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in union square on saturday. police have arrested 17 year-old in connection from tracy in to the shooting. and in response to the high-profile violence, there have been more private security guards and police officers around union square. it has been a priority for police department in recent years after a rash of large-scale smash-and-grab robberies, a representative for big bus, san francisco says for many tourists, it was still good day. despite all this. >>everything is looking good. sources flooring a walk-in. you know, nobody seemed bothered. i don't seem bothered a lot of cameras. you do do some, you're going to get caught. >>the union square alliance also responded to saturday's shooting saying in part it is saddened but also relieved to hear that purcell is doing better. now, switching gears

>>well, this is a very tragic story in which one woman and her dog have died. if there's a silver lining here, it's that crews were able to keep this fire from spreading, according to the southern marin fire district around 12, 30 monday morning. crews responded here to the 700 block of altavista road on reports of a structure fire. >>upon arrival, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from this home. the fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm with crews from timber on in. sandra fell called in to assist. firefighters were able to enter the back of the house and discovered a woman in a bedroom. >>the victim sustained significant burns with obvious signs of death. andrus pronounced deceased at the scene. the victim was a female. a total of 4 dogs are rescued from the fire. unfortunately, one dog was deceased. >>fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. >>never want to have anything had like this when your neighbor's monday morning, neighbors along this quiet street were shocked to hear the news. they say the victim was a longtime resident of the area was often seen out walking her dogs.

that's on oil and gas prices. but some democrats, they're now pushing back. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has the new details. >>well, it's certainly not common to see. the governor faced public pushback from members of his own party. but as it pertains to newsom's proposed special session on oil, that's exactly what we're seeing. over the weekend. lawmakers officially wrapped up the 2024 legislative session sending more than 1000 bills to the governor's desk and returning to their districts for the next 3 months. but just as they wrapped up for the year, governor gavin newsom called on them to return to the capital sometime this fall for a special legislative session to regulate california's oil and gas industry. it's only the governor wants lawmakers to meet on and approve his proposal requiring oil refiner to maintain minimum fuel reserves. newsom argues doing so will result in more fuel supply, which in turn will lead to lower prices at

the pump. in a statement, the governor said it should be common sense for gas refineries to plan ahead and backfill supplies when they build down for maintenance to avoid price spikes. but the oil industry and republicans believe newsom's proposal will lead to increased regulation and costs on oil refiners, which in turn will be passed onto the consumer at the gas pump. i mean, this proposes ridiculous. it's just going to raise our costs. still, democrats in the state assembly say they support the governor's plan for a special session with our constitutional obligation, responsibility to that call. >>and sure that, you know, we dig into this work and we find some solutions start to, you know, bring some relief to hardworking californians with that. the democratic super majority in the state assembly made clear they will return for the special session. but the democratic super majority in the state senate is taking a different approach. we're not going to come back for a special session. democratic senate president pro tem mike mcguire said that's because senate democrats feel the governor's proposal to require refinery fuel reserves.

schooler. he was 13 years old. his name was cohen craddock and he passed away last week suffering brain trauma after making a tackle during practice at his middle school. his father said cohen suffered from brain bleeding and swelling. he was rushed to the hospital where he later died. that same day, alabama high school quarterback caden tellier passed away after a head injury that happened on a tackle during a game which rocked his hometown of selma, alabama, at least 5 other young football players died in the month of august. the oldest being just 16 from either here had related injuries. again, these are all just children. but last month wasn't the norm here at the national center for catastrophic sport injury research says that there were just 16 football-related deaths all of last year. among the millions of athletes that play youth and college football. so football fatalities are rare but no less tragic, which is why ryan craddock cohen's father is trying to push for schools to attach padded had protectors called guardian caps to helmet something the nfl is already using to protect its own players. i think that the

the lake tahoe beaches again on monday and many in the community are just hoping they will keep it clean. that doctor, dozens of volunteers spent the day picking up all kinds of trash after the weekend. chloe curtis reports. >>many of us have heard the saying pack in and pack it out. but year after year, dozens of volunteers spent hours on lake tahoe beach is collecting all kinds of single-use, plastics and thousands of cigarette butts. >>you know, i have everything from a bottle caps. the cigarette butts. 2, a whole body in here right now. so it's kind of a little bit of everything. first time volunteer. agree traveled from south reno to help this labor day giving back to the area where he spent much of his summer news generations to come. that will not get to enjoy this. we don't take care

wrapped up for the year, governor gavin newsom called on them to return to the capital sometime this fall for a special legislaive session to regulate california's oil and gas industry. it's only the governor wants lawmakers to meet on and approve his proposal requiring oil refiners to maintain minimum fuel reserves. newsom argues doing so will result in more fuel supply, which in turn will lead to lower prices at the pump. in a statement, the governor said it should be common sense for gas refineries to plan ahead and backfill supplies when they build down for maintenance to avoid price spikes. but the oil industry and republicans believe newsom's proposal will lead to increased regulation and costs on oil refiners, which in turn will be passed onto the consumer at the gas pump. i mean, this proposes ridiculous is just going to raise our costs. still, democrats in the state assembly say they support the governor's plan for a special session with our constitutional obligation, responsibility to that call. >>and sure that, you know, we
