>>just a handful of days into the new school year to students and 2 teachers were killed this morning after authorities say a 14 year-old student opened fire inside his high school. >>it happened in napa, appalachian high school in wind or about 50 miles northeast of atlanta. at least 9 other people were injured in this georgia state. police say 2 school resource officers detained the suspect within minutes. he was taken into custody and is being charged as an adult with murder. his motive right now is under investigation. and california lawmakers are also reacting to today's shooting governor newsom and attorney general rob bonta were both at an event in sacramento earlier today when they heard about the tragedy. >>the commentary around this is so familiar. exhausting. the commentary on the other side. talking about the political is a shunt of people stand up and say what the is wrong with. this is the only country in the world where we see this over and over and over and over again. and you're going to see it over and over and over and over

countless other businesses are being targeted as well. kron four's there since and is in the city and shares that surveillance footage. >>mars bar has been in the south of market neighborhood for 25 years. its owner says it's been a struggle to keep the business afloat and being targeted by thieves doesn't make it any easier. all the bars and restaurants in san francisco are barely surviving right now. just more insult to injuries. david kiley says he's the latest bar owner in san francisco to be targeted by thieves. video shows the quick and brazen burglary at mars bar in the early morning of august. 23rd broke open the front door, stole the atm, grabbed the 2 registers and they were out the kylie says the registers were empty and in it. but the burglars left - costly damage. he says other nearby businesses have also been hit. the hotel, utah, 4th in brandon. >>they hit the oasis. they had

the dna. they hit audio a little more than a mile away. thieves smashed in the glass door siento bar in the mission. just unbelievable. not the glass. this burglary happened on tuesday around one in the morning. thieves are seen be lining for the cash registers. i believe my cash stores open. i don't leave any cash on site. the owner debbie cohn says the thieves took off with credit cards left behind by customers put it out. there's a new left a card. be sure to block them or cancel them. but someone use your card last night, please let me know where because the police are actually looking because they think that this is a regular perpetrator. meanwhile, kylie is trying to draw attention to his burglary, putting information about it. >>on the window of his bar, he says this. that only makes it harder to survive when it's already a struggle to get customers through the door. they were in a ghost town down here. everybody's work from home. >>and that's what's hurting us because all of our after work, businesses now gone. kylie says he has pivoted to hosting

that would occur in the county of residence in this said, what can you? >>the 17 year-old is from tracy and he also has another case pending out of san joaquin county. pearsall was shot in the chest on saturday afternoon. he was out of the hospital, though, within 24 hours. and the suspect who was also shot in the arm is doing fine. his next court date in san francisco is set for next week. some online tobacco retailers are being sued by the city of san francisco. the city attorney says they're trying to dodge the law which bans flavored nicotine pouches. the lawsuit against for online retailer seeks monetary penalties against the companies. it also wants the retailers to immediately stop delivering products to san francisco addresses. >>how much is come in? a variety of sweet flavors and our city banned these flavored tobacco products because we know that they are more attractive to young people. >>the california youth tobacco survey of 2023 found nicotine pouches were the second most common form of tobacco use

among 8th graders. it's just behind vaping. the lawsuit hopes to send a message should be taylor's that nicotine products are not welcome here in san francisco. the city of oakland is suing southwest airlines for allegedly violating the city's minimum wage and sick leave ordinances. the suit stems from southwest allegedly breaching a twenty-twenty settlement agreement claiming the airline has engaged in new violations and refused to restore earn paid sick leave hours to employees among the list. the lawsuit seeks that southwest pay restitution damages and penalties to affected workers. southwest responded with a statement saying they fully comply with applicable sick leave laws. it went on to say, quote, although southwest remains willing to address the city's concerns, specifically policies, the airline is prepared to vigorously defend itself against these frivolous claims in court, including by asking the court to address the city's own breach of the settlement agreements.

switching gears, we're taking a live look now at the embarcadero in san francisco. ashley know now we're looking at the city. we see karl, the fog going through the city, although it's looks nice out there. it's been a pretty hot week with a heat wave kron. 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here to join us to track a cool down though, lawrence. >>that fog just kind of sliding on in. you can see the sales force tower. so, you know, the clouds below that at about 800 feet or so. we're going to see that making its way into the base of tomorrow morning. little dense fog to begin your day and yeah, it's going to be thick in spots. temperatures today took a hit along the coastline. we had enough of the seabreeze to really not the numbers down. so we went from the 80's to much cooler weather to san francisco at 12 degrees. cooler level. 2 risk alert. oakland and 10 degrees cooler nappy. see the the interior valleys, not much in the way that at all that you're still a hot 100 in livermore. 96 in concord, 102 in antioch, 96 in napa. 98 nevado, but a much

on on these hot days. this was the same back on july. 26 smoke filled the air as fire crews raced to contain. >>a blaze moving fast along hillside and threatening nearby homes in this bay point neighborhood. >>we did have the fire in bay point that did have a cws warnings that came out alerts and evacuations and there were many homes evacuated during that time of the fire came straight to the fence line. that's public information. officer know with the contra costa county fire protection district as we haven't had any rain for a while now. so it's extremely dry out there. the later you go into the summer, it just gets compounded. everything is going to be extremely dry. and if you add in the fire, danger with that in a little bit of wind, you can have potential for some really fast-moving fires. ono says just last september crews responded to 20 vegetation fires and they move fast. yeah, when you get the wind out here and in the county and you know, one little spark, the fires can grow extremely

fast. this is a view from the homes just off the jill avenue, the scorched earth and close proximity to so many homes. vivid reminder of the danger of a wildfire spreading an open space near a neighborhood. they always want people to be ready to know 2 ways out of not only their homes, but if they have 2 ways out of their communities as well and to sign up for cws alert so they can be notified if there is an emergency going around in their neighborhood. and there's also this fire officials say they they want to make sure that the messaging is out there about protecting yourself. if you do plan to go hiking like on the hillside out here where there are several trails. >>they say that they get a lot of medical calls. 9-1-1, calls when the temperatures go up and they say it's important to make sure that you wear protective clothing or get some water. make sure you bring a lot of water so that you can stay safe. here in bay point theresa stasi, you kron 4 news. >>more news

school year and football season starts up. chp oakland is donating youth football jerseys. the kids at the boys and girls club kron four's gayle ong was at the events and explains what inspired the chp officers to help the kids. >>a youth football players just took the stage and receive their new football jerseys. here is a look. so right now the crowd is just sitting down. they're going to gather and listen to some speakers. but we want to give you a look at chp officers here with a stack of football jerseys. this is all to benefit 5 legacy youth. so how

this event came to be chp officers were. responding to a stolen car case and the suspect jumped into the coaches. at the time and that suspect was arrested. but after that incident, chp officers got to know the coach of the season football team here and then they realize that the kids here needed new uniforms. so the chp officers reached out to anyone who can help around the community. and that's where we are today. that incident happened late june. so about 2 months later here we are at 35 football players received the pri jersey. they got backpacks with free supplies. here's more from chp. >>and you know, that's the important thing. that's for the community to come together time. so was it was huge for me. i grew up in so this was, you know, seeing those kids out there. was near and dear to my heart to try to make this happen. and so when everybody came together and it

southern california neighborhood plagued by human trafficking. now federal and local law enforcement are taking action. reporter lauren lister has more on the crackdown. >>hi there here in downtown la today, law enforcement officials detailing their collective crack down on human trafficking saying it exists in its ugliest form right here in our own backyard. with one victim is young as 11 years old. authorities say this stretch of figaro a is home to hardworking angelenos churches and schools. but he's also ground 0 for human trafficking in la. what we see along the figure, a corridor. >>as a human rights tragedy playing out each and every night. they say many of the victims are children. the traffickers. >>we'll recruit victims from foster care from group homes,

the damage done. you can see some of the trees that have been burned here and some of that charred land and not only that as we walked on over, we can also see some of the smoldering that's been done over here in this area. taking a look over there, you might be able to catch just a glimpse of it. it's something that we're seeing play out all throughout the area. and we're also learning about power. we're learning that individuals, at least right now are in the dark. the bear fire continues to grip tahoe national forest as crews continue to fight the fire. they're relying on aerial resources, turning to water drops and retardant to try and put out the flames. power has proven to also be a problem. nv energy tells us no residents impacted by the fire are in the dark, relying on other utility companies to back the power to sierra brooks. while they continue to assess damage to infrastructure, they tell us 14 power lines were damaged in the fire with 10 needing to get replaced. we saw before service he told us they still have more battles ahead in fighting this fire. access has

representatives on wednesday said the nation's disaster relief and needs to be replenished. so the u.s. government can continue helping survivors of mali's deadly wildfires and other disasters around the country. reporter jill ker amato has the latest details. now to the latest on the boeing starliner mission. nasa is planning on bringing the capsule back on friday without the astronauts. it brought the space station washington correspondent vinay simlot reports. the astronauts will have to be rescued by rivals. spacex. >>the boeing starliner is scheduled to undock and return to earth this friday. an

after governor newsom's plan for a special session on oil and gas prices. now it appears to be in jeopardy. newsom says

it looks like the special session will take place after all. capitol correspondent eytan wallace was there with the governor today and joins us with more on what has changed. >>they've been gouging. you and then lined a frustrated governor gavin newsome calling out the oil industry, renewing his allegations against oil companies, accusing them of raking in record profits while price gouging drivers at the pump. how dumb do want to continue to be to be played fullest, which they've been doing for decades and decades. it's one newsom says he's calling on members of the legislature to return to the capital sometime this fall for a special legislative session on oil and gas prices. he specifically wants lawmakers to meet on and approve his proposal requiring oil refineries to maintain minimum fuel reserves. he argues that will result in more fuel supply, which in turn will lead to lower prices at the pump. but newsom is facing pushback from the oil industry and republicans who believe

his proposal will lead to increased regulation, which in turn will result in cost, pushed on to the consumer. and the governor comes with some last-minute proposal. >>this actually a raise the price of our gas, you know, so it's it's terrible policy, but drawing more attention than republican pushback to the governor's proposal. >>is democratic pushback from members of the governor's own party in the state senate while assembly democrats said they will return to the capital for the special session. senate democrats led by president pro tempore mike mcguire had this message for the governor on saturday. we're not gonna come back for a special session and that's significant because if the senate does not come back to take up the governor's oil proposal, it will not be possible to advance his legislation, but fast forward to now we're going to get this done. there seems to have been a change of heart. newsom is now confident the special session will happen after all after holding an hour-long meeting with president pro tem mcguire in what both called a productive discussion that will lead to a path forward for newsom's oil and gas
