quite a scorcher today around the bay area with an excessive heat warning in effect until wednesday night. let's start things off with a check on the forecast for that. we turn to kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow lawrence. >>it's like a midsummer heat wave. probably not going to see something like this again until next summer. but it's going to get hot. today was just a taste of things to come. it was hot in places like san francisco up in the 80's. but yeah, we're going to see a lot of triple digit showing up around the bay area for tomorrow. outside high pressure building in overhead. that ridge will continue to strengthen throughout the night. you can already see very hazy in our skies right now. we did have some records that came down. sandra fell had a record of 102 degrees today tied a record 95 in san jose. but all around the bay area, these temperatures could be running hot. probably multiple records going to be broken by tomorrow afternoon. we've got heat advisories up even along the immediate coastline where temperatures touched the 80's today and of course, got the areas shaded in peak. those are on your excessive heat warning all the

overnight into early sunday morning. police say at least 2 people in that sideshow got hurt, but no arrests were made from 4. sarah stinson has more details. >>one vallejo family living right here off of columbus parkway says sideshows continue to happen in this intersection and they say the latest was the worst they've seen so far because spectators climbed onto the roof, took over their lawn and damage their property. it was that's the most scared of being because nobody has never came on the opportunity causing terror and damage. patricia williams says hundreds of spectators climbed onto her roof saturday night to watch a sideshow at the intersection of columbus parkway in georgia street. so here, as you can see. >>and that done to rule there. >>williams says her family has lived here for 4 years. now. damaged onto the roof there

still being investigated, but have more information. we'll bring it to you. and cruz is expected to now pay 1.5 million dollars. that's after failing to fully report a san francisco crash involving a woman who was tracked. the crash happened last october when the woman was hit by one car, then track 20 feet by a cruise. driverless taxi. the crash prompted the robo taxi company to suspend operations and the dmv to revoke its license a month later, the company also recalled its cars to update software. the national highway traffic safety administration is now requiring cruise to submit an action plan and how it expects to improve its compliance for crashes earlier this month, crews began testing in the bay area, but not in san francisco. and under a new law, driverless cars will no longer get a free pass for making traffic violations. the law which goes into effect in

out of the east bay tonight. leandro family is mourning the loss of a grandfather and dog. both died in an apartment fire over the weekend. kron four's philippe djegal all spoke with the victim's family and has more. >>78 year-old field is patterson left a lasting impression on his family and those who knew them and they are remembering him fondly after his tragic passing. patterson's family says he could not escape the flames sunday afternoon when a fire broke out in his lower floor unit at the eden. roc apartment complex in san leandro. 2 people escaped patterson's unit but he did not. and neither did a yorkie named rocky. the alameda county fire department

responded. the flames extended to 3 other units affecting 4 apartments in total. 3 of them have been yellow tagged by the city. patterson's apartment has been red tagged meaning no one is allowed in or out. patterson lived with his wife, daughter and 3 grandsons. eighteen-year-old bucka says his grandfather meant the world to him and everyone else. everybody love everybody in this apartment left. is. >>all >>everybody when come acai news and talk to everybody, i everybody's it does uses it. cheerful, personal. my i lost. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >>in all the fire department says 12 people have been displaced. they are receiving help from the american red cross. >>patterson's family is also raising funds online to help with funeral arrangements and their immediate housing needs

in san leandro. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >>our questions are surrounding the san francisco unified school district tonight. this comes as an emergency meeting has been called address the growing issues within the district kron four's lezla gooden has all the details. >>this month over 350 teachers and the san francisco unified school district were found to not have the proper credentials and over 200 special education teachers and aides needed were not hired because the district did not issue funding for these roles 150 of them are called para educators. >>those are the ones that come in give support to the special education students. then there's an additional layer of instructional and teachers, special education teachers that have not been highs almost like another 100 now. the board of supervisors is holding an emergency hearing to discuss these ongoing

issues. supervisor ahsha safa by is leading the hearing set for tuesday was a request initially for 60 million in additional. they realize it only needed to be 30 million. >>but then that's still got delayed by months. we stand delays, hiring and then delays instruction and support for special education students. and that's from the number one question on many people's minds. >>is how did this happen? i met with the superintendent of schools this morning asked him that same question he needs to hold himself accountable. and i think he will and we are going to get into that. how did we get i'm not really interested in finger pointing, but we're interested in making sure that it does not happen again. district is federally mandated to offer these services. >>and the exact number of students impacted remains unclear. we contacted sf usd about this, but they did not provide any new information. a question. we're going to ask it again tomorrow. i told the superintendent come ready to answer that question and don't give a

customers could see the lights go out. the return of hot weather has prompted pg e to warn of a potential public safety power shutoff kron. 4 charles clifford has more from livermore. >>one monday morning pg e said that they did have to shut off the power to some areas in far northern california. and they're warning some bay area customers that it could potentially happen here as well. pg is warning that between 5 monday morning and tuesday they could potentially shut off the power to 12,365 customers in 11 counties

across california. >>here in the bay area pg e says that 140 customers in napa county, 286 in contra costa county. and 57 in alameda county could potentially see their electricity turned off these possible psps is are mostly in rural areas, including here in alameda county, near morgan territory, road and manning road utility says that dry, windy conditions and hot weather have prompted them to make this decision. psps events are only called for the safety of our customers and the communities we serve. last case resort. and like i said, we're still monitoring bay area counties that could have impacts and those impacts should they occur would be quite small. >>pg e also says they have crews on standby to move quickly. if the power does go out, if that happens, crews would need to inspect the power lines and ensure that turning the power back on won't cause any problems. >>when we have something like this will make sure to mobilize cruz. the areas that

which are very far away. we are also seeing some coming in this area as well as sky 5 was overhead earlier this afternoon. you can see that line of fire burning through the thick vegetation. the latest flareup prompting additional evacuation orders and warnings in the san bernardino national forest for a while. it seemed like firefighters were really getting a hold of this blaze which has burned more than 43,000 acres. it's still at 80% containment. but the problem is that there were 2 areas that were not contained because of steep and rugged terrain that ground crews were still trying to get access to folks in big bear. tell us that they evacuated when the line fire was threatening the community up here a few weeks ago and they can't catch a break. and the other truck that we took. >>you know, last time we evacuated, still loaded. we're ready to leave if you have to. you know been terrifying. this once that wind changes, you have no idea where that fire is going to go. and this is the latest map showing evacuation orders and warnings again. officials allege that

outside on 15th street monday morning of last week. >>in the footage you can see the back of the truck tilting upward, a pile of rocks at the end of the street can be seen later in the footage. days later, the camera catch people grabbing hold of the rocks and loading them into an suv and onto a flatbed truck that dumpsters. it really have a reaction at first until i started seeing no homes to go around. we caught up with a local business owner who says he was told the boulders would be put around the area and places where homeless tents pop up when the driver of the truck with the boulders just kind of knocked on our door. let us know they getting delivered here. >>and then my landlord, let us know that it was happening. as a result of the neighborhood association making a decision about it. we reached out to the city. they told us they were not behind the boulders and a permit is required. they told us they did not permit the rocks and we're looking into the matter. we spoke with a civil rights attorney who says to keep people out in this way. is that right? if you just go around city, you

help circulate cold air in your home. well, thousands of dockworkers at ports from maine to texas are now officially on strike. the contract between the ports and about 45,000 workers expired at midnight on the east coast. that means members of the international longshoremen's association at 36 ports will be on strike. it's the first time for the union since 1977. and it could affect everything from our holiday shopping to find food at the store. ructions in shipping and supply chains might also drive up prices. many retailers say they have contingency plans in place but a long strike would be the economy, especially on other ports and now have to. have the brunt of the workforce, including here in san francisco and the head of the pacific merchant shipping association says west coast ports have already seen more traffic as the fire shifted their shipments starting months ago to prepare for the possibility of this strike.

where several agencies spent the weekend working to contain a petroleum spill outside the city reporter chloe curtis shows us what goes into the cleanup. >>the oil spill was first reported friday afternoon and several crews responded and worked over the weekend working to clean up that spill. those evaluations and the impacts are still being evaluated this morning by the california department of fish and wildlife. but at this point, it's believed to have been caused by an oil burner with a max capacity of 380 gallons. now, of course, when it comes to an oil spill like this time is of the essence, we saw that the stockton fire department and the california department of fish and wildlife were together using
