rothman. the first day of october and right on time the bay area sees the start of indian summer with temperatures reaching record highs to track the heat wave crown for chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. lawrence. offshore wind. >>cranking up the temperatures outside and here we go again. we're going to be off and running with more hot weather on the way. here's some of the records around the bay area. samara fell checking in 105 degrees today. that was a record 102 record in santa rosa. 100 degrees in campfield. a record 100 also a record in san jose. but it was hot all around the bay area. here's a look at the other temperatures outside how at 94 degrees in downtown san francisco. 96 in oakland, san jose. yeah. the record there. look for checking 303 in concord and you get the idea even along the coastline. 74 degrees, affluent hot

illegal marijuana grows busted in the north bay. police say the groves were found at homes all near each other in fairfield neighborhood in the past 3 months, almost 6,000 plants were seized in this no word if police made any arrests. and in the south bay, a music store in los gatos is boarded up after a car smashed into it. the owner of rocking kids along los gatos boulevard said no one was hurt. she's unsure of how much the damage will cost, but says she's thankful for the community's support. she goes on to tell us she's now trying to find another location to move to the store to possibly in the same shopping center. desperation is growing to find missing residents in the wake of hurricane helene. hundreds of roads remain closed, especially in the carolina slowing down search efforts and the delivery of mushing to food and clean water. so far, at least 160 people have died

news at 11, 30 on stephanie rothman during the peak of the heat this afternoon. hundreds of people in san francisco's bayview neighborhood were forced out of their homes due to a major gas leak. kron 4 sarah stinson has all the details. >>gas leak prompted evacuations in san francisco's bayview neighborhood tuesday afternoon forcing people out of their homes and into the hot weather got a heat advisory. i think it was over 90 degrees in the city today. and the last thing you want to do is leave your comfortable air conditioning. we want to make sure that folks, when you do hear an evacuation order, understand that it's for your safety. the gas leak was first reported around 10:30am, pg e in san francisco fire responded. officials say construction crew not affiliated with the utility company struck and damaged a gas line while excavating on paul avenue right near digital realty's data center. while crews worked to stop the

release of gas, people who live in the nearby neighborhood got evacuated as a precaution. we have firefighters and police officers going door-to-door to make people make sure people that there was danger of people like doris molino came home from work to several street closures. molinos eighty-year-old parents were home at the time. thankfully their neighbor stepped in to help get them out by neighbors are stunned. i'm honest, table for tonight. a muni bus was brought in to allow people to wait in air-conditioning in order to stop the flow of gas pg e had to cut gas service to 700 customers. and while crews managed to contain the gas leaking from the damaged line around 05:00pm. >>crews could be seen serving the data center to see if there was still a threat as a fire captain justin sure explains why it's important to take these gas leak seriously. initial threats to exposure to natural gas. the first is going to be. >>that we're going to get headaches for start to feel nauseous. that's just our exposure to the gas instead of and oxygen in the second, of

>>our coverage of the heat wave continues with kron four's philippe to call. he's reporting from the east bay where temperatures are rising, triple digits and air conditioning technicians are in high demand. >>average day for hometown heating and air conditioning in concord, net's 3 to 4 calls from customers requesting service. but as scorching summer, temperatures have continued on into senior hvac technician baker sollman says those calls have doubled in recent weeks. we've had many demand calls maintenance calls

where mysterious large rocks have appeared one neighborhood. they appeared to be an unlawful attempt prevent the on house from camping there. and now similar displays are popping up in other places around the area. reporter clawed its a funny and spoke with the residents and homeless advocates about the new issue. >>good evening. homeless advocates are telling me at locations where we typically see homeless community members. well, now they're being replaced with boulders and people are asking where these boulders are even coming from. and if it's actually a solution to homelessness, and right now at camp resolution weeks ago, this was a sanction site. this was full of trailers as well as posters. residents who are proud to be a part of this location. but now it's completely a different site where not only is it empty, but now we're only able to see a pile of boulders in the distance. let's go ahead and take you out to some video just yesterday. ox 40 caught up with residents about the recent pile of boulders that have been dumped on 15th street near c street. we spoke

with a business owner who said he was told the boulders were meant to deter homeless encampments and were ordered by a neighborhood association. >>fox 40 obtain footage of a truck at the location last week and people collecting boulders from the pile. advocates tell us boulders are popping up everywhere and it's not always clear where they're coming from but say they are meant to keep the homeless out. how trans told us they are behind some of the boulders you may have spotted around town. homeless advocates first alerted us to the pilot camp resolution in recent weeks. residents of camp resolution were forced to leave the site after the site's least with the city came to an were also alerted to camino road in del paso heights. we spotted boulders yet again and a nearby encampment. i advocate. thank you. tony mentioned seeing a truck with boulders in that area in recent days and says the boulders were prudent to deter encampments. tony says she also spotted boulders at one of the highway ramps in downtown. that used to be the site for 2 homeless community

francisco's bayview neighborhood had to leave their homes. an ac for the heat outside due to a major gas leak. kron 4 sarah stinson has the details. >>a sleek prompted evacuations in san francisco's bayview neighborhood tuesday afternoon, forcing people out of their homes and into the hot weather got a heat advisory. i think it was over 90 degrees in the city today. and the last thing you want to do is leave your comfortable air conditioning. we want to make sure that folks, when you do hear an evacuation order, understand that it's for your safety. the gas leak was first reported around 10:30am, pg and san francisco fire responded. officials say construction crew not affiliated with the utility company struck and damaged a gas line while excavating on paul avenue right near digital realty's data center. while crews work to stop the release of gas. people who live in the nearby neighborhood got evacuated as a precaution. we have firefighters and police officers going door-to-door to make people make sure people that there was danger of people like doris molino came

pacifica. 74 in san mateo. 75 in concord. still 83 degrees and snow. if you can believe that. and 77 degrees in sausalito. so yeah, some hot weather all around and tonight really just kind of slowly cooling down with those offshore winds in place already tomorrow, sunshine. and here we go off to another hot day. and then we're gonna start to cool things down. i think as we get toward lot of part of this week, finally get some heat relief. but right now, high pressure still going sitting over head for at least another day in the offshore winds will continue. watch what happens we head toward tomorrow afternoon. right now you see most these arrows pointing off shore that's showing the winds blowing from the land to the sea. but as we head toward tomorrow morning, that offshore wind stays in place by tomorrow afternoon. everything to be as a switch directions and head the other way. that's at sea breeze kicking means we're gonna start to cool things down, least along the coastline and inside the bay. temperatures, though, the race up again in the morning about 85 degrees in san francisco. you're looking about 79 of civic, a 78 in half moon bay inside the bay. want warmer temperatures
