rothman. people around the nation and the world are mourning today for october 7th. it marks one year since the hamas attack in israel, a terrorist group killed 1200 people and took about 250 people hostage. it's the deadliest attack against jewish people since the holocaust sparking retaliation by israel in gaza. also, that's killed more than 40,000 palestinians and recently intensifying the conflict in the middle east. many are calling for the hostages to be returns and an end to violence. >>enough them. >>and the south bay, the bay area, jewish community relations council held a vigil at san jose state today. that's in honor of the lives lost in the october 7th attack. the organization is holding events all throughout the bay area to give people an opportunity to mourn. and just a few feet away, a pro palestine counter-protests group organizers say they plan

to hold what they call a rage week demanding and informing students about the aftermath of the attack. all while the group says they're also trying to convince administrators to divest from israel. a bay area muslim organization is also reflecting on this one-year anniversary of the conflict. the october 7th is a difficult day for a pro-palestinian groups like the bay area's council on american islamic relations. also known as care. the group's executive director says this is a day of grieving for everyone because of the violence that ensued after the attack. the group believes peace will not be achieved without israel agreeing to a cease-fire. >>the fact that he has been one whole year is a nightmare beyond belief so long as israel is indiscriminately bombing children. >>schools, mosques. >>churches, health care workers. >>and on and on. it's difficult to have confidence

bay school officials are warning about a scam targeting students and asking for their bank account information. kron. 4 shock moment spoke at a family who almost handed over their financial information before finding out it was all a scam. >>well, the student i spoke with says that he's been working multiple different jobs to save up money when he graduates high school later this school year. and when he got in his phone, promising work from home benefits and up to $400 a week, if it would be an easy fix. but when it started asking him for his credit card info, that's when his mom had to step and so he started to apply for and he asked like, oh, they're asking if i have a debit or credit card said, ok? >>odd. and then he's like, oh, it's asking for my debit credit card number. so wow. >>with tca county says her guy already has working experience. so she says she wasn't concerned about him applying for a job until the application asks for their financial information. that wasn't an actual website or a

company's website. it was just a google doc form. the e-mail was a blast chain e-mail sent to hundreds of potential. you said union high school district emails. let tcs as though the dead giveaway that it was a phishing attempt. was that many of the e-mail address is set to were fake or repetitive and that there were spelling errors in the email itself. these kids are. >>getting ready to go to college in, you know, enter into adulthood >>they're being taken advantage of by who knows who was just it's not right. east side union high school district told kron 4 it heard of similar phishing emails going to other districts and has been working proactively with google to block incoming phishing emails, though it wasn't perfect. he said union says it doesn't know how many students are being targeted or if any students actually had their bank account information compromised. they told us the priority now is informing the public about this issue, saying in a statement, quote, if any student or parent receives a suspicious email, they're worried about contact the district by phone. we're

on the school's website for more information. i felt a lot job patients. so i didn't know exactly like was normal or not normal. and for a guy. >>it's a valuable lesson as he gets ready to graduate high school, how easy would have been checked if i were asking questions, i could possibly got my stuff like taking advantage it. i think pretty much now. a tca tells me that she plans on reporting this phishing attempt to san jose police. we reached out to san jose police ourselves to find out if anybody else has complained about these phishing attempts. and we have yet to hear back reporting in east side, san jose jack moment kron 4 news. >>new tonight, livermore police blasting alameda county district attorney pamela price. the police department took the da to task over a case involving a violent felon who attacked and robbed 2 women with a gun. the attack happened back in may of 2023. police today say these hacker was already on parole in connection with a shooting.

he's now been sentenced to 5 years and 8 months in prison. but the police chief requested the da files sentencing enhancements, meaning a longer prison sentence. but according to police price rejected that request. this is now the latest issue between the dea and local police last week. every police union in alameda county came out in support of removing her from office. >>industry could soon be making its last delivery. marijuana delivery service founded in san francisco is planning to end operations by the end of the year. the company's ceo tells kron 4 eases assets were sold at auction back in august. he goes on to say management is working with the new ownership group who will determine whether operations will reopen next year. it's unclear, though, if any employees will be laid off in this. but the ceo does say they will have an update coming up next month.

oakland where the dysfunction that many say is plaguing the city government continues to affect the city's deal sell its half of the coliseum as kron four's. dan kerman reports the mayor is now taking credit for new deal. while city council members say they've been kept in the dark. >>monday, oakland mayor sheng thao issued a statement crediting yourself with negotiating a better deal to sell the city south of the oakland coliseum to the african american sports and entertainment group. under the amended deal, the city will receive 110 million dollars instead of 105 million. the entire deal will be paid in full by may of next year. instead march of 2026. and additional 15 million dollars will also be paid to the city during construction. we feel like we've turned a corner

began a year ago. and what has the past year? >>been like for you and your federation, the people that you represent. >>well, we represent the jewish community here across the bay area and, you know, more than 1200 people were murdered a year ago. hundreds of hostages taken even 101 hostages that are still in captivity. so we're praying for their return. doing everything we can to bring them home. and we're also doing what we can to support our family. that's in israel and our friends by raising money for humanitarian needs and also providing security right here in the bay area. >>there's also this sort of broader middle east war that has started since october 7th, 7007th, not only what's been going on in gaza, but also now things have expanded to the northern border with lebanon. did you see this coming a year ago thinking that things would be this big in this violent.

the jewish community feel alone are under attack here in the bay area. just knowing that there's that support out there sometimes just keeping it simple might be the best way. >>there are lots of protests planned today against israel against when israel started to fight back against hamas. we've seen also the past year, bridges being shut down with people calling for, you know, israeli military to leave israel. the israeli military to leave gaza. >>what you have to say with like these protests that are planned for today. >>you know, we really want the bay area to be a safe and secure place for jewish people and all people and the federation manages community security across northern california. so we're paying close attention to what's going on. but i think we can all agree that we want to live in peace and we want peace in israel and with is is israel's neighbors. and we also want peace here with our neighbors. and i think, you know, it's a time that makes people feel

what's to come, a lot of people seem ready to vote day one in person. first thing this morning at the santa clara county registrar's office. there was a line. >>we had a pretty light line this morning at 08:00am voters lining up to own. it was a a good amount of people voting today. >>californians are inclined to vote by mail and vote late as always. election officials don't want to be swamped by late mail in ballots. they can only hope for the best, but it's not like you don't have options. they include not only the mail in ballots but in-person voting at their offices. vote centers, drop boxes. and even if you mess something up, they will be trying to help you fix it. a lot of voters worry about creating signature. >>all are. >>you partners accidentally swapped on slopes in the same household. if there is a discrepancy. we will send 3

notifications. >>to the voter so that they can amend their signature. one more detail. a lot of people don't think about. the public is often welcome to come to an election office and watch the process. >>in santa clara county, depending on staffing. you can come take a look. yeah, we have a server program here where where the public can observe and learn more about the process because this could be a very complicated system and that people are unaware of what actually is happening when we're counting. >>michael also points out there is a lot of information out there. some of it is misleading. he's telling voters if they have an questions or see something weird as he puts it, just call your local election office or check. >>sacramento city leaders and community advocates coming together now on a joint gun control proposal. city officials adding it's an effort to help strengthen current city code and also as the recent bills passed by governor newsom reporter kimberly cruz breaks down the

details of the proposal. sacramento city leaders in community advocate standing side by side during a press conference on monday to say one life. >>as we say if you save the entire world, sounding the alarm on the ongoing gun violence crisis. it's spilling onto sacramento's streets. gun violence is uniquely an american crisis. we must change the culture and we must change the conversation. mayor steinberg and both council members, lisa kaplan and submitting a proposal aimed at addressing gun violence in the city. we will do everything possible in our city to reduce gun violence. there are too many young people getting hold of these guns. kaplan says the proposed amendments will build off recently adopted gun laws by governor newsom and include the following prohibit to sell firearms from home. resident says and home-based businesses prohibit individuals under the age of 18 from entering gun dealerships in gun shops require every gun owner to

obtain and maintain liability insurance to cover losses and damages from accidental use of a firearm. and lastly, establishing an annual gun harm reduction feet to be paid to a designated nonprofit organization every year. we need to make sure that supporting the second amendment with responsible gun ownership taking action of the issue at a local level. kaplan says in the first 9 months of this year, gun violence is up over. 25% in the city we in sacramento are going to take that next step and we're going to push the state to adopt this statewide because we here in sacramento as the capital. of the state of california, we must lead and local community advocacy groups say is a step in the right direction. one of the main questions that were asked as advocates when gun violence takes place is what can we do? what needs to be done? that's one of the most questions that we get asked. and while we often say something, we got to do something. deborah grimes became the leaders

sacramento's first moms demand action chapter, which is part of a national organization of fighting for stronger gun laws after she lost her son to gunfire in sacramento back in 2022, it is really horrific. what has gone on. >>in our city, these losses. incredibly. horrible. it's a fight they will not give up against. we can't continue lose children, babies, kids on streets. >>continue to stand with families like this that have lost their children to gun lost their children to gun violence.

the coming months. justices will hear several hot button issues on their docket. washington correspondent maddie beer-temple preview some of those cases. >>we will hear argument first this term in case. 23, one 91, the supreme court's new term is officially underway or no big blockbusters with one possible exception. alan morrison with george washington university law school says the big case, this term deals with the tennessee law that bans puberty blockers for transgender youth. the court will consider if the state violated the constitution when they treated. >>the providing of medical services to transgender youth differently from the providing of medical services of the same kind for youths who are not transgender. >>justices will also hear a major gun case centered on so-called ghost guns. their parts can be bought online and assembled at home. but these guns are untraceable, ghost guns. and that's a very big problem for law enforcement. the court will decide if the government overstepped its

wasn't concerned about him applying for a job until the application asks for their financial information. that wasn't an actual website or a company's website. it was just a google doc form. the e-mail was a blast chain e-mail sent to hundreds of potential. you said union high school district emails let tcs as though the dead giveaway that it was a phishing attempt. was that many of the e-mail address is set to were fake or repetitive and that there were spelling errors in the email itself. these kids are. >>getting ready to go to college in, you know, enter into adulthood and >>they're being taken advantage of by who knows who was just it's not right. east side union high school district told kron 4 it heard of similar phishing emails going to other districts and has been working proactively with google to block incoming phishing emails, though it wasn't perfect. he said union says it doesn't know how many students are being targeted or if any students actually had their bank account information compromised. they told us the
