rothman today, the san francisco unified school district announced a list of schools that face potential closure or merger. >>the district faces 100 million dollar budget shortfall. that cap must be closed before the end of the school year or the district faces a full takeover from the states kron 4 sarah stinson attended the school board's meeting tonight and has reaction from parents. >>pretty heartbreaking. i mean, we've been through a very complicated lottery process to get shock. we knew we were, you know, projected to be on this list students and faculty of harvey milk. civil rights academy showed up in volume at the san francisco unified school board meeting. >>tuesday night, many speaking out against the academy being on a list of 13 schools meeting the criteria to either be closed or merged. it has civil rights curriculum that is unmatched the potential closure of schools is a part of the superintendent's plan to cut 113 million dollars next school year. an effort to

reporting in san francisco. kron. 4 news. >>san francisco police on the scene of a wild crash. this happened around 9 tonight at the intersection of 9th and howard police say 5 cars were involved in this. 2 of them were occupied in. both drivers were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. at this time. police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role, but they are asking anyone with information to give them a call. it will be up to the city of oakland and their council to decide whether or not to renew the city's contract for the short spotter program, the city's public safety committee voted tonight to send the contract over the city council to discuss on october 15th. the tech uses microphones that detect the sound of gunfire in high crime areas, its 20 year contract with the city expired back in june. and that decision renew the contract or not comes as oakland does grapple with millions of dollars in budget deficit. the shotspotter program cost more than $850,000 a year. then

much, lawrence. >>while he is gone, but the excessive high temps have proven deadly in the south bay, santa clara county officials say 7 on house people died over the last week from heat related illnesses. raw for jack moma spoke with city leaders about what's being done to prevent future deaths. >>city leaders at on house advocates say the number one way to reduce the number of heat related illnesses in the unhoused community is to get people off the streets in the first place. but on house advocates tell me they're worried there's a big disconnect between the services offered by the city and those who need it most. >>a search of his plaza in san jose's. normally the spot to cool off on a hot day. >>but with the falcons dry no end in sight, it's a sine. this past week's record-breaking heat wave is now behind us. >>but santa clara county officials report this year's heat has been deadly. the county's medical examiner says since june first, 25 people have died because of the hot

as city council was wrapping up tuesday. he says the recent number of deaths in santa clara county should not be normalized. is there any? >>lane you see to getting people to use cooling centers more in the future as a way to prevent deaths from happening to things we can do to encourage people to take advantage of city facilities that are air-conditioned. and he says the ultimate solution to keep the unhoused from dying and the heat as they get them off the streets in the first place. >>what the bottom line is, we should have a new living outside of texas. the mayor tells me he hopes to incentivize more people to use cooling centers through things such as free shuttle services to those cooling centers. he says the vta offered free rides to people back in july. they brought about 400 people into those cooling centers. he hopes to capitalize that a lot more in the future reporting in san jose jacmel. but kron 4 news. >>today in knees murder trial. well, many is accused of stabbing cash app founder rob lead to death in san francisco last year. any has pleaded not

criminally cleared of wrongdoing by alameda county district attorney pamela price is predecessor. but when price took office, her reexamination of the case ultimately led to involuntary manslaughter charges against all 3 officers. however, in court, attorneys have claimed prosecutors did not file the proper documents and arrest warrants in a timely manner. and on monday, judge scott patton agreed and dropped the charges against cameron leahy and james fisher. it's disappointing to see. >>but the road to justice for victims of police abuse. >>he's not an easy one. attorney adante pointer represented gonzalez's family in its wrongful death civil case in the matter. >>resulting in a more than 11 million dollar settlement with the city of alameda last year remain undeterred. >>we're trying get the justice that and armed man who was guilty of no crime other being suspicious to someone resulted in losing his life. the

charges against eric mckinley still stand. that is because the judge determined his statute of limitations is longer because he was out of the country during an extended period of time. >>he will now have to stand trial. no doubt it's bittersweet. i think you're making not most human being attorney julia fox represents officer reinforces that and price is when i see her office to liberate herself against that tremendous recall kurtz. >>and unfortunately, the collateral damage beings. a law enforcement officer, allison berry, wilkinson represents officer leahy end in a statement. she says in part, quote, my client has mixed emotions about the decision. >>he is grateful the judge dismissed the case against him, but he's heartbroken that the decision did not include officer mckinley. it makes no sense that the district attorney can pursue bogus and politically motivated charges against officer mckinley simply because at the time of

the filing he was building homes and schools for impoverished communities in south africa. it brings to mind the old adage, no good deed goes unpunished. but we look forward to the day when officer mckinley is also cleared. we have no doubt he will be in response to the ruling. the alameda county district attorneys office says, quote, it is unfortunate that all 3 defendants will not be held accountable for their alleged roles in the death of mario gonzalez. it is important to note that the court's decision was not made based on any lack of merit. our prosecutors will proceed to file an amended complaint against officer mckinley. mario gonzalez was killed in april 2021, a welfare check turned violent when officers through gonzalez to the ground and put pressure on his body which an autopsy contributed to his death. the dismissals are with prejudice, which means the district attorney

economic promises from former president trump would add twice as much the nation's debt that's compared to the policy proposals from vice president harris. this analysis comes from a non-partisan group that favors lower deficits. washington correspondent jessi tenure breaks down the report. >>from my plan i play regardless of the plan, a new report from the committee for a responsible federal budget says the economic proposals from both presidential candidates would significantly increase the national debt. these could arguably be excellent things to do. the point is we need to pay for that. my a mugginess, the non-partisan group's president says former president donald trump's plan would be worse for the nation's debt. adding about 7.5 trillion dollars over 10 years compared to 3.5 trillion from vice president kamala harris. both of these would lead us in a significant wrong direction at a time when our fiscal situation is so off kilter, both candidates plan to act on the 2017 trump tax cuts that expire next year.

but while trump promised to make all of the tax cuts permanent called the tax queen because she loves texas, what i'm proposing, harris vowed to only keep the cuts that help those making less than $400,000 a year. the report says the other most expensive parts of trump's economic plan and taxes on overtime pay and social security benefits. >>while expanding the child tax credit is the second most expensive for vice president harris. here's how we pay for to pay off debt. trump would make the government money with heavy tariffs on foreign imports while vice president harris would impose more taxes on large corporations and the wealthiest americans, both of those raise revenue. but again, not enough to entirely offset. >>the campaign proposals mcginnis says the biggest thing missing from their ideas is a plan to specifically reduce the nation's debt. in washington. i'm jessi turnure. widemocratic vice up.
