frustrations tonight in san francisco over the possible closure of multiple schools. >>the school district superintendent held town hall today to discuss the potential closures. but many parents say it didn't help kron four's. sara stinson explains. >>this is one of many town halls the superintendent is putting on to further explain the fiscal crisis and school closures. there's no public comment allowed, but the superintendent did answer questions submitted by parents, though. many not happy with this format. >>and we want answers, but i don't know if this is the format that's going to give it to san francisco parents demanding answers as to why their child's school is on a list of 13 schools meeting the criteria to potentially be closed or merged. really, we are picking up and sending us to other side of the and you didn't even about us. people are but definitely gonna have to take the bus. people going to have to drive. people are just going to have to make arrangements with their jobs. the superintendent of the

school district held a virtual town hall thursday night. i know it's made for a challenging few days. dr. matt wayne, explain the district's 100 million dollar budget deficit which he says is in part due to a decline in enrollment. we have. >>really like 12,000 fewer students that we had 20 years ago. and basically the same number of schools, parents that you quote, are coming together in this time of uncertainty. i'll be honest. i was shocked. i was floored. >>when i realized that all the walkable schools in our neighborhood are being shut down, definitely hoping and fighting for them to reconsider our school closing. sorry. do this without crying? marine abren has a daughter with autism. she says the district has not once mention what will happen to special needs programs like hers are under-represented. we're the most fact anybody was indication should know how much change in parks a on the spectrum. you know, i always get dixon poll if i have pots that i think that's going through every day. and if when

fundamentally this city to city and county of san francisco to san francisco unified school district. i have got to turn things around and the way we are going on the way the unified school district is going about this. >>is the wrong way. >>the final list of school closures must be approved by november 12 and a final vote on the closures will be held in december. you can find the full list on our website. that's kron 4 dot com. all clear in walnut creek tonight after a gas leak prompted evacuations in the neighborhood contra costa county fire officials say they responded to the scene just off walker avenue around 8.30, this evening. this is in the neighborhood behind the broadway plaza. authorities say they found a gas line rupture measuring between one and a half and 2 inches are crew got to the scene within the past hour. just found one pg and e truck on scene. this is a video shared on the citizen app. also when the leak was first reported, you can see the road blocked off with police and firefighters.

no word yet on what caused that rupture. switching gears to weather taking a live look now at sfo. it's a pretty foggy night out there, but a lot of nice fall weather check in on all of that kron. 4 sheet meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. larry. >>we are starting out with some patchy fog. i think by the afternoon that does break up saturday. that's the day the gets iffy. i know a lot of people are going to come in and telling the weekend to see the blue angels. there's a slight chance we could be dealing with some light showers in the morning. maybe some drizzle early on. so plan on cloudy skies. start today. clearing out the afternoon, partly cloudy again. the fog rolls in on sunday, but giving way to some sunshine in the afternoon. we are seeing some of those clouds out there right now. it's just broken kind of patchy now. and that's what's going to stay overnight tonight. tomorrow we're going to see patchy morning fog giving way to some sunshine, some passing clouds this weekend that slight chance showers mainly north of the golden gate bridge and down the mateo county coast. as we head in toward saturday. but here's that storm system off the coastline. this will be the rainmaker if we do get it,

unified school district says they're pushing to get rid of lead in drinking water on campuses after finding out about the problem recently. community members have been outrage including parents. president biden announced federal funding that will go towards providing clean water in schools like this one. >>we heard the president's words yesterday were very happy to see that this is a priority for the government. the federal government certainly priority for the state government. and so we look forward to, you know, perhaps getting some more funds in the cases where we've had elevated levels of lead found in anything we've been mitigating those as quickly as possible. we've been fixing outlets. we've been replacing outlets. >>and just a high levels of lead are so seated with learning disabilities and blood disorders. and it's especially dangerous for children under the age of 6. well, statements are set to begin next week in the murder trial of many. he's the man accused of killing cash app founder roblee in san francisco last year. today, 12 jurors were selected from a pool of nearly 150. there are

back. i'm stephanie rothman. emergency responders are now helping anyone in need of rescue and assessing the damage to the hurricane. milton left behind in florida. >>brought significant surge in some areas while waiting cause extensive damage and others. today we got a look at the road to recovery and how the federal government will assist. washing correspondent cal martin has more. >>president biden says it's still too early to know the full extent of the damages caused by hurricane milton. but he and officials in florida say lifesaving measures like evacuations did make a difference. was that everything our power to help you put pieces back together. president joe biden is promising the people of florida help is on the way. >>after hurricane milton's, powerful winds swept through the state overnight. flooding communities destroying homes and knocking out power for millions were providing the resources needed to rescue, recover and rebuild. right now, the coast guard and the army corps of engineers are helping with search and rescue

in evaluating when to reopen the port of tampa. fema is boots on the ground assessing damage. so we didn't just have rain. we didn't just have flooding. we had some horrible tornadoes. republican florida senator rick scott says looking at the devastation congress return from recess to washington as soon as possible can make sure that federal agencies, fema, part of that culture are fully funded. fema director deanne criswell says in order to help storm victims across 6 states, her agency already spent 10 of the 20 billion dollars congress recently set aside for disasters. and it does have a drain on our budget. and so we are monitoring every single day. >>president biden told reporters he believes does have enough money to get through these current disasters. but he's also urging congress to come back quickly to stir up some more disaster funding. at this point. the republican speaker of the house, mike johnson, is rejecting calls from both democrats and republicans to

>>a suspected burglar in the east bay is caught red-handed after getting stuck inside a business to explain. kron four's. michael thomas is oakland with the story. >>this burglary happened right after 2 o'clock this morning in downtown oakland at a shoe store. and the owner says while the burglar was able to break in, he wasn't able to break out. this is video of the scene from early this morning. you can see oakland police arresting a man for breaking into the shoes spot that's located at jefferson and 7th street in downtown oakland. he appears to have a net wrapped around his neck and this is after police were able to get him out of the store. the owner of the shoe store tells our photo journalist that was there. he received calls from neighbors of the storms being burglarized. when he got there, he realized the suspect was still inside. he says the way the suspect got in was through a small glass panel window. many couldn't get back out. as of right now, he says no goods were stolen, but the store definitely has damage. as you get more details from oakland police department will continue to keep you updated. that's a very latest here in oakland, michael thomas, i'll

send it back to you live in studio. >>a measure on the 2024 ballot could affect how much you get paid. that's because proper 32 will give voters the option increase california's minimum wage. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >>well, in my hand, here are $18. this is the proposed new hourly minimum wage for many workers. something supporters say will greatly assist in a state that has become unaffordable for far too many. while opponents argue will hurt the very people. it's trying to help. >>as it stands today, california's minimum wage is $16 an hour. but voters passed prop 32 this election in 2025, the minimum wage will increase to $18 an hour for workers at companies with at least 26 employees and $17 an hour for those that companies with 25 or fewer employees. each year after that, the minimum wage will increase based on inflation. it's the right thing to do for california workers who for too long have had a voice. that's why joe

samberg says he authored propped 32, the businessman who prides himself on being what he describes as an antipoverty advocate. samberg argues the minimum wage proposed improper. 32 will benefit every day workers across the state struggling to get by. there are millions of californians we're working full time. >>and many cases more than full-time. it can't afford basic needs like 3 meals a day for kids, rent transportation, clothing. >>it comes about half a year after the state implemented a $20 minimum wage for most workers in california's fast-food industry. and as pertains to most other sectors, the state already scheduled to increase the minimum wage by $0.50 to 16, 50 an hour in the new year. but according to sandberg, it's absolutely and that's also the feeling of the california federation of labor unions. league of women voters and labor leader dolores huerta, all of whom supporting prop 32 is going to stimulate pastor roof of the overall economy. but the no on prop 32

campaign has a different perspective. not good for the economy is just a disaster of a proposition run. fog is the president and ceo of the california grocers association. he says prom 32 will ultimately hurt everyday shoppers afford basic groceries. it has come back to consumer because the profit margin for a grocery store is very thin. we're talking somewhere around one and a half percent. the only way that we be able to adjust. >>to a minimum wage increases to raise prices. it's a message echoed by the california chamber of commerce and california restaurant association. >>both of whom are opposed to prop 32. they're concerned it could lead to massive layoffs across their industries, hurting the very people prhelp increase in the minimum wage like this is going to eliminate a whole sect or of entry level jobs. you know, a $2 increase, the minimum wage. >>may not seem like a lot. but over thousands of employees, it adds up to be quite a bit.

said more assistance is on the way for residents of the storm battered state of florida. the aftermath of hurricane helene and now milton has sparked a flood of misinformation online. now federal state and local leaders are sounding the alarm that that complicates an already difficult recovery process in the south kron four's. stephanie lin spoke with cnn senior cybersecurity reporter bree fowler to learn more.

>>all right. so first of us, first of all, it can you walk us through scams that a lot of these hurricane victims are seeing right now. a kind of misinformation is being distributed out there. >>well, when it comes to scams, i mean, these kinds of things happen with every natural disaster. anytime you have people in need that need help anytime that you have people who want to help them. there are people out there that are going to try to take advantage of the situation and this could mean phishing emails that could mean phone calls. that could mean text messages offering help. maybe if you need it and then you find out there's a fee. >>or maybe, you know, it's a charity looking for donations that isn't really a charity. you have to be careful who you're dealing with, no matter what side of things you're and what are some red flags. people should be looking out for. >>in the case of an online or a phone scam. sure, you know, if you can in some unsolicited call or email or text from

agency. >>or a company or a charity that you've never done business with. don't click on it. don't deal with the person on the you know, if fema's calling to help call them back, get a number, you know, from their website go directly to the website. if it's a charity, you know, think about it, researched it online and definitely, you know, don't click on a link in an e-mail that you get that you didn't ask and what would you say is being done to stop these scams from starting in the first place? i imagine it's a pretty tricky process. >>while the ftc and system, which is agency that handles, you know, a lot of the cyber issues and critical infrastructure in this country.

was another vehicle driving in the opposite direction when it happened. they're trying to determine where that rock came from. if it was thrown from the vehicle or a person on the side of the road, we're told the california highway patrol southern division, major crimes unit is now taking on the investigation after a similar incident happened just 2 days before this one and in the same area, preliminary reports indicate that a rocket came through the windshield of that vehicle, injuring 2 people at about 11, 30 sunday night. it's unclear if that could be connected to serena is death, but family is frustrated saying that investigators haven't released much information and they want whoever is responsible caught. i want to see justice. >>she is something that we can never get back. i hope they really find this please inform the authorities of any suspicious, you know, activity in that area time to catch person. >>and we just got word from the lancaster station of the la county sheriff's department that they arrested one man who was reportedly throwing rocks
