election headquarters in november? oakland voters will decide on a measure that aims to reduce violence. it passed measure an and would help fund the police and fire departments and violence reduction services all by increasing an existing property tax and parking tax for the next 9 years. proponents claim the tax would generate around 47 million dollars per year. and they also say it would improve emergency response times. in the south bay voters will have a chance to make sure they know exactly how to cast a ballot on election day. next week, the santa clara county registrar's office will host a voter accessibility workshop. attendees will be able to ask questions about the voting process and also observe a live demonstration of voting equipment, a sign language interpreter will also be there to assist attendees who are hearing impaired. the workshop is thursday, october 16th from 3 until 4.30, in the afternoon at the registrar's office. and check this out. the northern

california shakespeare theater in orinda is closing its doors for good. the long-running shakespeare troops said notice of its overwhelming financial stress ahead of this kron, four's gayle ong spoke at the theater's executive director about what's next. >>i love this place. we think that it's a it's a community resource. and after 50 years or in does california shakespeare theater known as cal shakes is closing its doors? executive director clive words, le informe the community thursday citing economic challenges and leaving no choice but to suspend operations and begin layoffs and a good year. ticket sales would cover 50% of our operational budget. that looks a lot more like 30% of our operational budget and

happening in this building. so walk me rate and explain to me what's going on in here that people can do come on. so what we have here is a multi player, virtual reality experience allows participants to work together as a team to launch a that actual aircraft carrier. so what? >>can also experience is different roles. you can be a boat says be a pilot for it 35 different roles. as you can see here, these members will be able participate experience what it's like to be a sailor in the navy. >>and when i think about just how technology comes into play with different branches of the military, you know, how important is it? not just obviously this looks so much like a video game to me, but there's real careers and real important jobs that happened in the u.s. navy obviously and how important technology to that. >>it's so important. so we have over 70 stem careers in

the united states navy. and here with what we call the strike group, participants able to experience what those careers with this innovation in this technology, such as new color, engineering aviation medical field and spent i look over here, i can just see how cool it is. they're trying to like essentially extend these plans off of simulated ship, if you will, right? that's absolutely correct. yes. your favorite part of coming here to the marina green and doing events like this and having the public walk so this is my first time in san francisco and here at week. and it is incredible and have like you're really into it. and absolutely. have loves farthest past couple of days is the amount of community support that we have here to all of our military service members. it's just been incredible. and it just feels good to be appreciated and as well as having a lot of the

homelessness grant program is outdated and now they're calling on the u.s. department of housing and urban development to work faster to fix it. they say the grand doesn't allocate money based on a city's level of homelessness, but factors like age or of housing, putting new or cities like san diego at a disadvantage. washington correspondent maddie beer-temple has the story. >>congressman scott peters says san diego isn't getting its fair share of funding to fight homelessness. homelessness. >>in absolute somewhere 35th in the country and the funding we get from this formula has been 15 to 18 depending on the year. and we just want to match up. that formula is how the department of housing and urban development determines funding for cities to help the homeless. >>peter says it's outdated prioritizing age of housing over cities, number of homeless people. nothing could less related. it seems like peters has pushed to change the formula for more than a decade are to make change in washington. >>but we really need leadership from the white house and and we're hoping get

prices may soon be lower at the pump. governor newsom's oil and gas proposal is now one step closer to becoming law. friday afternoon, the state senate officially advances legislation. capitol correspondent eytan wallace has reaction from democrats and from an executive, a chevron believes newsom's plan will do more harm than good.

>>eyes. 23 knows 9. the measure passes with that vote. the state senate narrowly advanced governor gavin newsom's, oil and gas proposal. his plan will allow the california energy commission to require oil refiners in the state to hold minimum fuel reserves doing so. the governor argues will result in more fuel supply, which in turn will lead to lower prices at the pump and prevent price refineries have to temporarily go down for planned or unplanned maintenance. senate president pro tempore mike mcguire supports the governor's efforts. the reason why this legislation passed today. >>it is because of the vast majority of democrats who are here. in the sun. believe this was not only the right decision but an important decision to be to protect consumers at the pump. >>in a statement, governor newsom commended the senate for advancing his proposal, writing in part, quote, californians are one step closer to getting the protections they need against a big oil's price spikes. still at least 5 democrats

like san redwood city, the south bay join lots temperatures up in the 70's. so running a little bit below the average for a pretty comfortable for this time of year. plenty of 70's. you get over the east bay hills to lot of clouds continue to roll on by as you make when walnut creek are looking 76 69 in a about 70 in berkeley and 70 in richmond inside the bay. all those temperatures going to be a little bit cooler, but not bad. you'll find that sea breeze in the afternoon over the next couple of days. we're going to least a slight chance of showers tomorrow. doesn't look like a whole dry weather on sunday and monday, but then think maybe a little bit more potent storm coming our way about the middle of next week. and that be nice to see. >>and i'm just here for us at kron 4 news. we'll be back with the morning news. starting at 7 o'clock. i'm stephanie rothman. have a great weekend.
