super pout that 16 17 olds are now going finally get the chance to vote for school board elections. you know that. >>clinton but the are 2 of the major cithat have been the first to make this happen. so i think this is just a huge accomplishment that i am happy to have been a part and what did you think it was important for this to happen? how did you get involved? yeah. so i got involved in 9th grade. so roughly around 45 years ago, we and other young people in oakland had seen why our board members want properly representing student. so as students, we take action into our own hands and plan together to be able to get the chance to actually vote for point members going properly represent fs student. >>and what are you doing to make sure that these kids in high school that 11th and 12th grade are that age that 16 17 old age that they know that they can do this like how are you making sure that they get involved? >>yes, so many youth organizers in oakland are actually involved in this,
12:06 am
whether it's city council things, boat commission and other organizations around oakland have been going to this school site in high school and have been working with the principal is in the school board members to be able to implement in schools so that students are properly educated and know how they can get registered to vote for elections this year. >>and they can also do this berkeley, berkeley, kids of the same age can vote in their school board elections. did you collaborate with them at all? were you inspired by how it was going in that city nearby? >>yeah. so we did see how quickly was able to do it. so it just gave us a feeling that we had a stronger chance as well to be able to implement this. and here we are today finally being able to get 16 is a material to will for the school board members. and so we're 2 weeks away from election day. what do you want to say to kids who maybe are like? >>i'm not gonna do that or i don't even know how to do that. how do i vote? how do you want to encourage them to get out there and use this
12:07 am
right that you have fought so hard for them to have. >>yeah. so they have more questions. they should definitely reach out to the school, whichever they at each school has an it girl who is held in the open, both to educate students feel they have questions. they can do that. but just knowing the importance of voting on why they should vote because, you know, typically we get more direct. this one really representing student still, if you want somebody to properly represent you and have programs in schools that you would like to make sure to vote this year for the november election. and what i read is there's about 3,500 11th and 12th graders who are able to vote in this year's school board election. >>and they can for districts, 1, 3, 5, 7, so there's a lot on the line here, natalie. we're so glad that you able to join us to talk congratulations. you got 2 weeks. then your your dream is realized. it's really cool thanks, in just 2 weeks, voters will decide not only the next president but also control of congress. >>candidates for the senate and the house are battling it

out in high stakes races across the country. washington, d.c. correspondent hannah brandt has the details. >>this election will determine the balance of power not just in the white house in congress to vote for him for the senate year particular. senator right now is a total staff. both presidential candidates are fighting to tip the scales in their party's favor. that's why you got to get any back to the senate. by the like the presidential race, the battle over congress is extremely competitive and either party has the chance to win the majority in the house and the senate. it looks like it's anybody's but who could get the house and the republicans have edge on the senate? political science todd belt says control of the house is likely to come down to just a handful of competitive districts. many of those are clustered california, new york state where there are republicans that are holding districts that were won by joe biden last time. so they're ry, now. democrats hold a razor thin majority in the senate, but more democratic senators
12:09 am
are up for re-election. democrats have a lot more to hang onto. then republicans do so. that gives republicans an opportunity to chip away. but if they do chip away, he's really looking like it's only going to be 1, 2 or 3 3 seats. if control of congress is divided, it will be harder for either party to enact their agenda will probably see the commander in chief tried to use executive orders to govern instead of trying to work with congress, which is going to limit what he or she is able to do. and congress holds spending power with the government is able to do with the government's able to fund obviously is absolutely crucial to have control of congress or to be able to work with congress in washington. i'm hannah brandt. >>kron 4 news will continue with more top headlines forany

think maybe just a patrick tule fog right along the immediate coastline, looking good out towards sfo right now, no delays being reported there either. while the golden gate bridge, not bad, not busy out there on the golden gate right now on mostly clear skies at this time. all right. overnight tonight, skies should stay mostly clear with the exception maybe of patrick to fog coast side tomorrow, mostly sunny. and it looks like by the afternoon these temperatures probably start to sneak up into some low 80's and some of the interior valleys are going to warm things up. but we get the weekend. that's where starts get a little iffy. things begin to change the clouds start to roll back in and the temperatures begin to cool down. right now we are seeing a few high clouds drifting into far northern california so far. so good here. but overall, i think we're going to see a return of some nice weather here. the next couple of days. the breeze. yeah, we've had a return of that sea breeze bringing that nice onshore flow. bring the humidity up and bring the fire danger down. and that's kind of where we say it's a really a nice spot here over the next couple of days. we need to enjoy it. but after that, things may change. here's the long-range forecast model. want to show this to as we

head through time. you've got a couple systems off the coastline. this that cut off low. we're talking about going to merge with a system coming out of the gulf of alaska as we get in close to the weekend, the clouds start to gather little bit and then you go into sunday.now some of the models trying to bring least a chance of showers in the bay area have to see if that happens or not. i think a better chance may come as we get in toward next week with that setup, right? there's low pressure because anchor self over the great basin. we make it back to some offshore winds. could have to watch that closely as we get in toward the beginning of next week. and then this next storm system on halloween when you know maybe bringing a chance of showers. the bay area also got to keep a close eye on that one. temperatures, 69 degrees downtown san francisco, sunshine for tomorrow. 66 in the sunset, you'll find some sunshine along the coastline. temperatures. they're generally in the mid 60's inside the bay. 68 millbrae 68 in burlingame. 74 degrees in san carlos. 75 amount south bay enjoying lots of temperatures near 80 degrees in san jose. that will crank out a couple 80's in a pleasanton a little more by tomorrow afternoon. should be about 80 in walnut creek. 81

in concord, about 76 in below 80 degrees in napa. and 81 in fairfield. really a nice weather pattern kind of selling itself up here is we're going to see what looks like a little warming trend for the next couple days. then we start to cool down and the weekend next week looks a lot cooler. again, those winds may be kicking up about tuesday with maybe higher fire danger. and then as we get into halloween, maybe we get some creepy looking a little clouds rolling in. >>and that doesn't here for us at kron. 4 news will be back with the morning news. starting at 5 o'clock. i'm stephanie rothman. thanks for watching.
