to be opening up. even at that scenario does happen. so we've got a little bit of something for everybody in the next week. 70's san francisco today still on the mild to warm side, not too bad at the coast. a lot of 60's you might have to fight through. more cloud cover, though, 70 for burlingame. expect those winds to pick up later on today, though, redwood city. 75 palo alto. 74 in the south bay, 78 for san jose morgan hill. but 81 east bay shoreline, mid 70's little cooler than yesterday a year. so for livermore. meanwhile, a heading up to walnut creek, 79 along with concord. 72 for berkeley. what about a 75 79 fairfield now, pat 78 77. meanwhile, for santa rosa, a variety forecast. it is false like spring in a way you get the variety. but look at that 60, some cool weather developing breezy tuesday. that's that offshore wind. we got to watch out for dose of showers maybe thursday. and we're watching as we head into the weekend, the potentially see more activity as well. hopefully will come together. stephanie, thanks a lot. dave.

8:15 am
and anything we get all day. but what you can see from that as the moisture levels building at the servicen and that will happen even the afternoon. that doesn't usually happen during the day because you have dry air aloft and that usually mixes out with drier conditions will not happen today. so that's good news there. lingering all the way through sunday, as you can see. so a couple spotty showers. we'll take the day on sunday. again, very widely scattered, but quite a bit of cloud cover, too. and getting into monday, some of this may linger as well. there were take a breather and it looks like after halloween we'll have another hit, a potentially some rain showers as well and even into next weekend as well. here are the onshore wind. so obviously they're going to import some of that marine layer all day. there's a big pop with winds happening tomorrow afternoon. they do settle down pretty quickly and that's a good direction for the wind. so it's not as problematic. check out the temperatures today. 69 san francisco open about 72 might see an isolated sprinkle in there. and 78 meanwhi e for san jose scattered clouds as

8:17 am
talk about this in the book, but walk us through how the both of you got connected to each other in the first place. i was taking a stand alone walking was giving the >> and that's how we met. i have been wanting to write a book about homelessness of d stereo type in book. it would be useful for the the city and people in the city and be on the city. and i just didn't know how to do it. and i was the hume interview and a whole lot of people was daunting. and then i met dale and he said a few things that maybe think maybe i can just concentrate on this one person and that's how it happened and do it. you ever expect yourself to become the subject of a book like this? >> no, not really. and this lee, i wanted to just be an advisory part of book because we need we need more national attention on the reasons behind homelessness to debunk the midst of homelessness. and i think this is a great vehicle to do that. and that's my tip of being part of this. yes, no, they also why was it so important to you that you tell do story and a spotlight,
8:18 am
the tenderloin specifically in your writing, given that homelessness is such an ongoing issue in so many different cities. >> in a way. i chose the tenderloin because that's where do mostly and and it emblematic of so many things. some some. >> very happy things. and some a lot of not very happy things. and it seems like it was a stand-in, perhaps other neighborhoods around the country. it made sense to be there just because i wanted to concentrate on one place and also del's has friends and relatives nearby. so i focused on it. but the other day my husband said this is not a san francisco book. this is an american so i i hope that some of what readers take from it will resonate beyond san francisco because the issues are very similar in other parts of the country, although there dealt with differently found those. yeah, you know,
8:19 am
do you've overcome so many challenges? you witness the evolution of the neighborhood. >> over the years, what do you think led to tend to like being in its current state? and what do you think needs to happen to bring about some meaningful changes? >> well, i mean, what's happening now is the numbers are just overwhelming because of the dual predicament of homelessness and addiction, which is kind of new to the homeless, a situation i mean, years ago, 2025 years ago, there was an immense amount of homeless, but they were singler predict it. you know, people didn't have a dual diagnosis which they have now. so and we're seeing that more and more. and, you know, homeless is is is a san francisco problem, but he's not could not be labeled as essential school prom, small cities all over the state and the united states. and we have homelessness in different forms in almost every community that i've been yeah. >> on that topic, of course, the city of san francisco has been the subject of what feels like an increasing amount of
8:20 am
scrutiny. this is an election year. this there isn't a national and local image problem when it comes to san francisco and the tenderloin neighborhood. i mean, how much do you feel like these attacks on the national level are justified? well, there are political. >> you know, homelessness has become a political football to be used. roll and negative against our communities. i mean, again, we we cannot i can duplicate home business and almost every community united states, but they tend to focus on san francisco because of the deep sense of politics in this city. >> note to the both of you. what is the big message that you hope people will take away from reading the my big message, i would hope is that people see seeing a homeless or unsheltered person. we'll think this is not. part of a. and the malcolm, this is this is actually an individual human being and you can do
8:21 am
something to help that individual human being at the very least by saying hello and treating that person as a human being and do his office said this what homeless people need. among many other things is dignity and they don't have that. so i'm hoping that the book will. show that the mayor of the tenderloin is now doing fine. but there are a lot of people who who need some help along the way and and this tells us not just in san francisco, but but all over the country and to show that these are indeed individuals and one can do something and and should do something. how about for you do? well, what i want this book to to emphasize is that a homeless person can't just take the 10th or done in it in the dumpswer and get on with his life is not that i wish it was. >> it's a miss amount of challenges you have to overcome. a lot of work. you know, you can go and say, well, that the city put me up. you can say there, but you've
8:22 am
got to put in the work to that's issue. a lot of people aren't able to put in the work because of middle situation. their addiction status, they can put in the work that you are. anyone else in this studio could and we got to realize that there's not there's not that easy. you go to multiple agencies and get multiple solutions and mate. they work in maybe after one day 2 days, our homes tend to give up. if they don't have a concrete solution is more than the 2 day event. and that's what we got to that people know. okay. we can get you to the next level. will be done in 24 hours. they go be done in 72 hours is going to take a little time and >> in our last about 30 seconds here would love to also get it. give you a chance to talk about co tenderloin, which is an incredible non-profit that you're involved with. >> so i started colton one about 10 years ago, almost 10 years ago. because, you know, when we asked some people to get their lives together, we've got to give them some tools. employment as a tool
8:23 am
and that brings your dignity back bring stability to reunite. you can't reunite with kids that we still don't have money to support him. so this will give give people a chance to get typical wages. you know, i live typical life for change. you know, we got most of the major tech companies have relocated partially in the to the wind and i loved it. and we have very short commute. we've got a 3 minute commute to the to the major tech companies. why not? so we're teaching coding software engineering and all skills of typical folks so that we can compete and have dignity and love and pleasure. go vacations, go to disneyland like everyone else, the united states. all right. fantastic. thank you so much to the both of you. >> the author of the mayor of the tenderloin allison owings and do see more the founder of co 10 to one and the start of this book to thank you so much this is meaning to the lawrence suburb. so, yeah, it's a good way to think about it. we'll be right back. the
