12:51 am
age of 30 years old and it precisely these voters that are breaking, especially male voters, not entirely but largely male voters. u.s. born incidentally, english-speaking voters that are breaking much more towards donald trump and more populist candidates. even like bernie sanders generally. so this is a part of a larger demographic generational change and transformation. it is something that i really unique in american history and it began, as you correctly mentioned in 2016, it accelerated in 2020 and it's accelerated even further. there will be a 5 million more latino voters by the 2020 election. and changes are made by the democratic party, you'll see a further continuing change. so this all happened despite some remarks from mr. trump who signed. >>things like mass deportations. can you walk us through what's happening there? >>yeah, that's a great question. and a lot of people point out to the fact that it's not just mask
12:52 am
deportations and these yeah. vulgar terms that are often used to characterize the latino community. lot of people remember the madison square garden of portable joke that was made about where we come in and i love the garbage look at what's happening in this is really key to understanding everything. is that what he knows are moving away from being a racially and ethnically motivated voter to an economic populist pocket book voter. these are 3rd generations of 80% of the latino electorate is now u.s. board. it's the fastest growing segment of the latino electorate. these voters have much more of a relationship and relate ability with being typical american than they do with their country of origin. so these viewers do not believe that donald trump is talking about because, in fact, they're not only not illegal immigrants, they're not immigrants themselves at all. and many are the grandchildren or great grandchildren of immigrants. it seems like they may be interpreting mr. trump's something is more bark than

bite here. >>it's not only in this more bark than bite, but it simply they do believe that they may agree with the bark. agree with the policy positions because again, they don't have that personal connection that most people think that they should have. these are people who, again have been here sometime family histories are not only 20 or 30 30 years. and so they don't see him as talking about them. so those that are increasingly concerned with immigration and border security issues emphasized tighter border security more than immigration reform as democrats have talking to that over the past. 34 years. all right, mike madrid, a political expert on latino demographics. thank you so much for your insight this afternoon. >>thanks for having me. >>still ahead on kron, 4 news push to get vaccinated before the holiday season. we'll hear more from health officials on how you can keep safe. with
