and how you can protect yourself. plus, an oakland business owner fed-up with repeated burglaries at his store. the new method he is now using to counter those crimes and east bay city council putting on a some limits on rv parking. what we're learning from an updated warnings. >> it said. and good morning and thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 morning news on theresa stasi for stephanie lin. it is sunday. >> november 17th. let's start the hour by getting a look at your weather. dave spahr in the weather center tracking everything i good morning, theresa. good morning, everybody. and we kept those clear skies overnight. got some last minute clearing and also you got some star action as well. check out for a ride all. >> but now we're going to be seeing the clouds build as we go into your sunday and by the latter portion of the day today, we might see a couple of stray showers, particularly favoring, would say maybe the

west. >> and the southwestern part of the bay area. here's a quick look at the golden gate bridge and we see a little bit of that starting to build already. not too much the way of winds. we will see a when pop. it looks like as we head into the evening hours, by the way, which will kind of outline for you. not a whole lot yet happening, but you can start to see the development of a little bit the way some cloud cover will show you the models later on. but upstream, this looks pretty threatening, doesn't, but it's not going to give us that much in the way of rain. it's actually its successor. that happens next week. that's going to be really interesting. it's gonna be kind of camping out up there on the northwest. it looks like for just about all week long until it finally drop south for temperature check for it's still another chilly one. we've got a lot of 30's for the east bay and up north as well. some lower 40's line up the east bay shoreline. although no cold advisories are freeze warnings or anything like that. we are been ahead, as you can see in some pockets up in the north bay. napa's trailing 3. but 9 ahead, santa rosa and half moon bay at 7 degrees ahead. hour by hour. starting things off again, mostly sunny, getting some of that haze

building in here, then turning somewhat mostly cloudy as we get to around the noon hour. temperatures you can see into the 50's will be included. the cooler looks like for this afternoon. more your forecast coming up to recent day. thank you for that. >> up for your help this morning county's public health department is confirming the first u.s. case of a new form of m-pox right here in the bay area. kron four's lindsay ford has the story for us. >> on saturday, the california department of public health announced a person in san mateo county health is recovering from m-pox clade one be the strain responsible for an ongoing outbreak in parts of africa, which has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the world health organization. we're told the person had recently traveled to eastern africa and when they got back noticed they were sick and sought treatment. even though the virus has been detected here in the bay area, health officials do not expect it to be a major concern.

>> i would say don't be scared. it's very hard to get. you know, you're not going to get it on. unity. our trade shows. well, i you know, it's going to be, you know, actively skin to skin contact or in the way to somebody bring off a lot of xenia flicking the bed sheets that kind of contact. and even if you get which is very, very low probability. so far, the cases outside of the continent of africa, you know, you know, people done very well. peter chin hong, a professor of medicine and infectious disease specialist at ucsf. >> confirms the low risk for the public. san mateo county health officer, dr kismet baldwin, santana echoing dr chin hong's sentiment. but the statement saying in part, given the low risk to the public of exposure to clade one. the standing guidance for preventing m-pox has not changed more than 31 confirmed

vulnerable groups. health officials say if you or someone, you know, have been exposed to him pox to contact ipyour city clinic or primary care physician to get treated or to get to him pox vaccine. lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> a bart police are investigating some kind of fight that happened on a train in san francisco. this taking place on saturday. officers say it happened near the 16th street and mission station just before 2 o'clock citizen video shows officers detaining someone. police have not released details on a potential victim. we're going to be continuing to follow this story closely for you. police are investigating a 3rd deadly shooting in oakland this week. it happened around 7.30, friday night on 86 avenue near highland community school officers say that one person was shot and died at the scene. police have not released any information on a possible suspect. police in

petaluma are looking for a missing teenage girl. she's right there. she's considered at risk. a 15 year-old is seen ya, hernandez adams, how it was last. seen this past wednesday. she's described as being 5 foot tall black hair, brown eyes. anyone with information on her. please contact the petaluma police department. and check this out, ramming their vehicles into the front of an east oakland business. you can see right there. the owner says that this has happened multiple times. he's really frustrated. he told kron four's philippe djegal. he's now taking a tip from those thieves and trying to do something similar to protect the store front. >> for a few weeks now in a desperate effort to thwart thieves employees at high gift and mini market on high street in east oakland have changed up the way they locked up each night. >> at the close of business, seems like it's it's working 4 times this year store manager saw lee fan who says suspects

have used what he believes are stolen cars to ram through the front of the store before burglarizing it. you don't get. >> the sleepy go home. he gets weighed for the long arm to go off south in whose is taking a page from the book of thieves. buy back into use ban purchased by the store to protect it at the way to the door lock where it stays parked overnight every night they haven't break into since we got then and whose hopes it stays that way. >> he says he has filed reports with oakland police after each incident. but so far no arrests have been made. 4 times basically where now we're not making it. >> but wiln hopefully will make governor gavin newsom announced last week he is extending the surge of california highway patrol officers in oakland. the operation has led to the arrests of nearly 1200 suspects. the recovery of more than 2000 stolen cars and the seizure of over 100 illegal weapons. >> but that does not help fan whose sleep any better at night. i don't think they

will. >> protect the businesses they do then not quit to protect businesses. they quit too. chase cars, you know, and give a speeding tickets or, you know, jean ticket. but as far as the chp keeping thieves out of his store fan whose is not holding his breath, we do have >> hope it's that. it's we hope and more than than to what it's supposed to do. and so far it has in oakland, philippe djegal, all kron, 4 news. >> the fremont city council is banning rv's from parking longer than 72 hours in any residential street throughout the city. the city council updated its ordinance last week, which means that the owners will first receive a warning from police. then if nothing happens, then the rv can be towed. the mayor elect says that a neighbor has complained about this particular rv that you're seeing right there. >> we want to make sure that the environment is safe, that people feel comfortable

walking the neighborhoods, especially in areas where there's a lot of pedestrian activity or near the schools. >> now, the council is also looking into addressing an rv encampment that's over on all bray streets. the new ordinance does not address these armies that you see right there because they're in an industrial section of the city. >> businesses owners have told city officials that they're worried about worker safety. >> and those visiting businesses with that encampment. caltrain is celebrating a major ridership milestone last month that have more than 700 and some 153,000 passengers. >> that is up more than 50% from october of last year, weekday rater ridership grew by 38% and weekends are booming. saturday ridership surge by 169% and sundays 142%. caltrans says that this marks the highest ridership since the pandemic. well, the

first ever cannabis dispensary in san bruno held a grand opening on yesterday saturday. the dispensary on camino real is called him bark. city officials say that they hope that could possibly benefit the community both financially and socially. >> and mark is one of the most compliant, you know, companies probably in the united states when it comes to cannabis. and, you know, we are very community oriented. one percent goes back to the community for all of our sales. with the graciousness of rico and the city council, we were able to be here and we're super appreciative. >> embark as 15 other locations across california, including redwood city where it was also the first cannabis dispensary in town to open. >> still ahead on kron 4. and still ahead on kron, 4 community members rally for better access to mental health services in the head of a key

now. you can see how beautiful it is. clouds up there. dave spahr joining us right now. >> hey, good morning, theresa. good morning, everybody. just out just a few scattered clouds to get everything started. to give you some color is a shunt work with watercolors and all of that. but it will be changing as we get into the late morning hours. we'll see a lot more cloud cover and the pitter patter of some rain. but it has to fight the some dry air in order to get their 1st half moon bay. there you have it right now. a little bit darker. looking here. and it's a sort of maybe a dry run, so to speak until our real system gets here by the end of next week. 59 san francisco evening showers possible variable clouds for oakland. 59 63 san jose clouds and cool. there we have today variable clouds again, those passing showers working late in the day. so we'll get mostly the cloud cover will be the interruption thing. plus, is that the showers that we're getting the threat of probably won't be much too huerter day at all because it'll be late in the day as we approach the evening hours tomorrow, an early

shower, maybe but basically clearing out for much of the balance of the day there. it will be cooler, however, than it was from yesterday and then into next week is where it gets really interesting midweek on. we're really watching to see this atmospheric river, its exact location as a tap. some of the subtropical jet because that's going to drive everything from wednesday. onward to the next weekend. all right. for your temperatures for right now. we have those low 40's lighting up the east bay shoreline. still some chilly 30's off to tri valley. remember,ethe playbook was it was very clear overnight was able to cool off a bit. also with that dry air, we have 45 for sonoma, 40 petaluma and a bottle coming in at 41 back to future cast. here's the cloud deck that does build this afternoon. a couple of stray showers work. and remember, some of this has to fight to dry air so we will lose some of it that reaches the ground may be enough to kind of dirty up the car, but this is the test case for when we get hit by the sledgehammer later doing next week. clearing out for your monday. looking pretty good. then rebuilding those clouds as we get into tuesday for the next

continue to quickly announce new cabinet positions. correspondent levy dean has the latest for us. >> a major cabinet pick out of mar-a-lago saturday. president-elect donald trump making his nomination for who will head up the department of energy. his pick, oil executive, chris, right. wright is the ceo of colorado based liberty energy and has been a leading advocate for fracking and other types of oil development in the u.s. in his announcement, trump calls right a leading technologists, an entrepreneur adding, quote, chris will be a key leader driving innovation, cutting red tape and ushering in a new golden age of american prosperity and global peace right will also be a member of the newly formed council national energy, which will be led by interior secretary nominee doug burgum. also on the agenda saturday, a strategy meeting with house speaker mike johnson. he's been a frequent mar-a-lago visitor. johnson was in the crowd there thursday as trump informed the audience, his plans with republicans back in charge. we're going to reduce regulation, waste, fraud and

>> going theresa, good morning, everybody. and not that overnight skies a ball that got chilly. however, again, this morning we had some 30's on the board earlier. and as we get into the day today and fortune the cloud cover is going to start to fill up our skies a bit. and we're looking for some may be some showers building by the evening. now looks almost on an asun pockets here, as you can see from sfo. but no delays happening out that way. so we're clear sailing thereby hour by hour forecast, we get out of the 30's but will still be in the 40's for a few hours until about 10 getting to about 50 get a little cooler today than yesterday on storm tracker. 4 really can't make out too much in the tight shot here except the induction of cloud cover. you can see streaming on in back to those temperatures. we do still see some 30's for the far east bay and to get some tri valley as well. but east bay shoreline, the 40's and 40's and 30's, meanwhile, up north. so this is what we got going on here. cool to start up, clouds, building a late shower and all of that looks like it'll be clearing early in. cool for your monday, 60 ish. and that will be the case early into

responsibility of bart police in orinda. lindsey ford, back to you. >> thank you, lindsay, for that. in the north bay police and nation are warning residents to be on the lookout for a scammer pretending to be one of their officers. the suspect is making phone calls one lead to random people using a fake badge number to identify themselves. then they tell the resident that they are a victim of identity theft and need to verify their personal information. benicia police say that they never make calls like this and they remind you not to give out personal information if you receive one of these calls. well, more than 300 california nonprofits are getting funding to help safeguard their communities against hate crimes. governor gavin newsome made that announcement earlier this week and more than 43.7 million dollars and federal funding that's going towards synagogues, mosques, black churches and other groups that represent minorities. according to the california department of justice, hate crimes against jewish muslim

and lgbtq+ communities all have increased since 2023. well, a new poll suggests a vice president kamala harris would have a good shot at becoming california's next governor harris lost the presidential election but still has strong support here in the state. a uc berkeley poll shows that nearly half of the state's voters would be very or somewhat likely to support harris for governor california's top office is not up for grabs until 2026. sonoma state political science professor david mccuan says that harris, whether in or out plays an important role in the 2026 governor's race. >> it's a big part of our game in washington, d.c., for what comes next for the vice president chief. she's young enough visible enough active enough. she has enough prominence in play despite what happened in the national election to, you know, run for governor of california, the 5th largest economy in the

choose patients over executive director of latina as contra cancer. darcy green says that's not what hca has a history of at the hospital has repeatedly harm to our community, to the closure of their departments, to the stripping of their services. just don't shown such total disregard. >> for patients and residents of the city city councilmember pam foley hosted a meeting between hca and coalition members. wednesday afternoon i spoke with coalition member joe apollo connelly about what the group wants to see as a result of the meeting to talk about how they're going to restore services, bring back acute care beds and what they're going to do to offset some of the harms caused by their pattern of divesting from our community and getting essential medicine medical services. he says a patient protection fund will ensure health care access for all residents and that mental health needs to be a priority after 18 acute care beds were cut from good samaritan last year, clinical social worker lauren gives a bull says less care for those struggling with mental health will only result in a higher suicide rate than

skies temperatures tumble. still see the 30's in the east bay 40's east bay shoreline. we're pretty much into the 40's up north. a little couple of pockets are still hanging on to 30's here. and there sierra forecast. you manage pick up a little bit of flakes with this or maybe some light snow in the higher elevations of up there. but 33, it looks like by monday tuesday. 39 to do see the drop from today. this is all test compared to what's coming later in the week. and they'll be certainly getting some more snow by the time we get there back to your saturday or sunday. there comes a cloud cover we talked about in a couple hits of some light. rain remembers going through dry air. so it doesn't mean you're going to get all this and you may get a cell like this overhead and you don't get anything so then it clears out until monday morning. maybe get stray shower. but looks like monday's kind and then tuesday, we rebuild the clouds again for kind of a saga that goes all the way for the week logs. we're talking about flooding issues. well, this is a good test because we might have an atmospheric river depending on what how it actually plays out day by day.

these models change a little bit, but we're right on the line. so let's look at what it looks like from this vantage point. 0st things first, our sunday program. that's done. t ke a breather on monday there. it's all lined up. our low deepens up here in the northwest. so they're going to get hit hard. probable jet being tapped into shore temperatures will actually climb a little bit by the middle of the week. very wet situation. you can see points north and we're right on that. the bottom line there, so we could see some rain on wednesday. it kind of pull states around a little bit. another stronger hit looks to be on friday. keep it coming on saturday. and then another hit for the latter portion a week and maybe in the monday, the following monday when this low finally starts to move. so it's going to be around for the latter portion of the week, mostly in the northwest. but the impacts for us. well, the latest run shows that maybe a little wetter than it did from yesterday, meaning it's going to sag to the south and hit the bay area. but again, if it goes back up north for a delay, action, it's going to impact on how much rain we get totals. so still monitoring all this 58

a much more potent storm coming our way middle of the week as low really deepens up there in the northwest. quick check on our temperatures. keeping in mind, we were clear overnight. so with the dry air and clear skies, temperatures fell a bit. we revisited the 30's this morning. we're starting to climb into the 40's. now. there you got some 30's even up north. quick contrast to this time from yesterday were little hidden pockets trailing in places like vacaville. those you can see again, those clear skies and the dry air checking in hour by hour. we see the increase in cloud cover and temperatures become sluggish. then 56 by 11. and don't expect much more beyond that as we turn mostly cloudy, the showers that we're talking about are going to be very, very modest. nothing to really spoil your day. but you may get some in your neighborhood and that will be most likely late in the day with a nice little pop of winds by this evening. gonna get more into that coming up. theresa, thank you very much. day one new this morning county's public health department confirming. >> the first u.s. case of a new form of m-pox and that

case here in the bay area. kron four's lindsey ford has the story. >> on saturday, the california department of public health announced a person in san mateo county health is recovering from m-pox clade one be the strain responsible for an ongoing outbreak in parts of africa, which has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the world health organization. we're told the person had recently traveled to eastern africa and when they got back noticed they were sick and sought treatment. even though the virus has been detected here in the bay area, health officials do not expect it to be a major concern. >> i would say don't be scared. it's very hard to get. you know, you're not going to get it on. unity. our trade shows. well, i you know, it's going to be, you know, actively skin to skin contact or in the way to somebody bring off a lot of skype, xenia flicking the bed sheets that kind of contact. and even

critical that, you know, that these systems this critical transportation system is safe. >> polling by the bay area council last year found riders were staying away from bart over concerns about crime and safety. the polls found that these attitudes were even more pronounced amongst the api community who make up. 25 1% of bart ridership, jeffrey says it's also a reality for people close to him. >> actually, 2 of our own employees who are robbed on bart. so there's not many there's people who didn't use a system that probably couldn't tell you whether, you know, directly themselves or knew somebody or witness something recent years that involved involved crime. jeffrey says the bay area council and the 100 api members believe that presence. >> chp officers would make the transit system safer, getting more law enforcement of any into the system onto trains into stations in creating a visible presence on the trains

developing in the north bay high school football team now on probation after reports of racist comments towards players. i spoke with students about the situation and got a response from district officials on probation, the town pius high school football team under the microscope. after 2 reported cases of racial bias incidents involving dehumanizing speech. the assistant superintendent, a lab reading this letter saying that anti-black statements were made to and about a black teammate in the letter obtained by kron 4 news, the assistant superintendent kelly, lara states, quote, i am appalled that this has happened twice on the football team. let me be clear. referring to black teammates as monkeys is racist speech referring to black teammates as unable to be seen in the dark is racist speech unquote. kron. 4 news has confirmed that the letter was sent players and their families and the district held

probation and a further incident says happened the entire season. the rest of the season could be canceled. they play maria carrillo high on friday night and they lost 20 to 28. a new poll suggested vice president kamala harris could have a good shot. i've been california's next governor. paris lost a presidential election but still has strong support here and the golden state. the u.s. uc berkeley poll shows nearly half of the states voters would be very or somewhat likely to support harris for governor california's top office is not up for grabs until mr. newsom turns out that's in 2026. sonoma state political science professor david mcewan says that harris, whether in or out plays an important role in the 2026 governor's race. >> it's a big part of our game in washington, d.c., for what comes next for the vice president chief. she's young enough visible enough active enough. she has enough prominence in play despite what happened in the national

that's why rufus jeffries with the bay area council says the api community is pleading for extra security. these crimes in some cases are disproportionately affecting. >> the double double communities, women, seniors and others. so critical that, you know, that these systems this critical transportation system is safe. >> polling by the bay area council last year found riders were staying away from bart over concerns about crime and safety. the polls found that these attitudes even more pronounced amongst the api community who make up. 25 1% of bart ridership, jeffrey says it's also a reality for people close to him. >> actually, 2 of our own employees who are robbed on bart. i there's not many there's people who didn't use a system that probably couldn't tell you whether, you know, directly themselves or knew somebody or witness something recent years that involved involved crime.
