rothman. >>whether you're headed out town by plane car or train travel. this thanksgiving holiday is expected to break some records. the tsa expects to screen 18.3 million people at u.s. airports just this holiday. that's a 6% increase compared to the same seven-day stretch last year. the busiest day to return home will be sunday. the tsa expects 3 million people to pastor on that day alone. and as for staffing at the airport, tsa says it's ready to handle the influx of passengers. officials say they have the highest levels of staffing in the administration's history lives together. security should stay under 30 minutes nationwide on the road. aaa predicts some 80 million americans will drive to destinations between today and next monday. and right now the cheapest place to fill up in the bay area is solano county at about 4.40, a gallon followed by santa clara, alameda and contra costa county. then marin county,

napa county sits at 4.54, gallon followed by san mateo, san francisco. and the most expensive is going to be sonoma for 69 and across the country. they won't feel it as much in their wallets, though, the price for a gallon of gas nationwide has dropped to about $3 a gallon $0.20 cheaper than it was this time last year. so if you're going to go by plan, let's take a live look now at sfo tonight. we're going to check in with kron four's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a check on your holiday travel forecast. lawrence. >>i've been a little rough in some parts of the country. not unusual to see all that storm cloud cover make its way through california and then head east and well. that's where start to see more of the problems begin to pop up out there right now. in fact, you see in the country's midsection, some rain, some snow head of the way there with the colorado rockies have been getting hit hard by some snow. and of course, that will cause some delays in those areas if you're traveling there. but this system going to begin to make its way

across the country, too. and i think that i'm against the eastern seaboard going to be some major issues right now. we've got rain and snow mix in the chicago. but the good news overall, yeah, the delays of cleared up at sfo, partly cloudy skies light winds. 53 degrees. all things go their impact. local airports looking good across the country. not bad at all. least at this hour. but if you're traveling across the country, things are likely going to change. watch a storm system make its way across the rockies to the central plains and all of a blows up the upper midwest and the northeast. boy, that is going to be an issue as we head toward a lot of part of wednesday and thursday. expect some delays if you're headed toward the northeast. >>well, happening right now in the south bay, if strain is dead tonight, after getting hit by a car on i-680, just north of chp had closed all southbound lanes in the area to investigate. and they just recently opened one of those lanes for traffic, according to the agency's log, several drivers reported seeing the

>>caltrain is getting a makeover in honor of billie eilish. the grammy-winning artists will be performing to sold-out shows in san jose on december 10th and 11th coming up and caltrain will be running a special billy car giving away billie eilish prizes and caltrain merge on board. if you're hoping to catch it, it will be trained number 5.22. going southbound on december 10th. the agency says it was inspired by the singer after she encourage fans to find a sustainable way of getting to her show. and amtrak is expecting thousands of people to catch its trains this year for thanksgiving. they say every year the see more and more riders and that people enjoy not having to worry about tsa or driving through the traffic. amtrak says if you haven't yet booked your ticket now is the time to do so. whether you're planning on traveling a short or long distance. >>people are traveling short distances. so most of our customers during the thanksgiving holiday are traveling less than 250 miles,

daniel andreas san diego was one of the fbi's most wanted fugitives. he's now been charged with planting 2 bombs that exploded about an hour apart on august 2003, that was on the campus of the biotechnology company in emeryville. he's also accused of setting off another bomb and a nutritional products company in pleasanton about a month later. those bombings didn't hurt anyone. but san diego was arrested in a rural area recently of wales in the uk. back home in the north bay. volunteers going above and beyond to help people affected by last week's historic storms. kron four's lindsey ford introduces us to a sonoma county woman. people are calling their guardian angel. >>this trailer that we would have a way to help people >>averages. jennifer words spent her tuesday driving around guerneville and other surrounding river towns dropping off essentials, including some pumps, gas cans

camping and cam in related activities on valley water lands. they say they will work with local agencies and private partners to try and find some long-term solutions to address homelessness and santa clara county. the goal is to keep the water clean in all this and enforcement of this new rule will begin in the new year in january. a federal appeals court is agreeing with a denver judge to allow a transgender volleyball player from san jose state to play in the mountain west conference tournament. today's ruling rejects a lawsuit by some players who argue that the transgender athlete is a safety risk and unfair to them. a judge added that the lawsuit should have been filed earlier as the tournament has already been seated and teams have confirmed their play. the transgender athlete has played for san jose state since 2022, but her participation became an issue only recently this season, nearly half of dozen schools have recently forfeited against this team. and the nation's first lgbtq

history museum soon have a new permanent home in san francisco today. city officials finalize the purchase of the museum located on market street. city officials say the museum will serve as a local, an international destination. that highlights the stories and contributions of that community. well, the niners are spreading some holiday cheer. head of thanksgiving on thursday. more than a dozen players, including brock purdy. fred warner and george kittle took part in the team's annual feast with the niners at levi stadium today. it seem invited 15 families in need and shared a thanksgiving meal at 100 foot dining table. and there was also some pizza, some smaller by the fire pit and a lot of games. >>a lot of these families pri. hadar wouldn't have the opportunity to come to levi's and with players. so i think it's cool, obviously for the kids, for the parents to be able to have one like this with their children with their other family members just really cool. >>but the fun didn't stop

and if you don't want to do it. then move on. california's first ever elected insurance commissioner john garamendi with those harsh words for the state's current insurance commissioner, ricardo mr. chairman, a democrat currently representing parts of the bay area in northern california. in the u.s. house. your money served as insurance commissioner for parts of the 1990's and early 2, thousands. he says the state homeowners insurance crisis has gotten out of control and needs urgent reform. the costs and the availability are. >>acceptable. in the last year and a half 7 of the 12 major home insurance companies in california, including allstate, state farm and farmers insurance. >>have either limited their business within the state or in some cases stop selling new policies altogether for homeowners living in some of california's most fire prone areas. that resulted in some californians struggling to find any insurance coverage and all a key requirement to

carry a mortgage for a home. there are many says lot of a fellow democrat can and should do more. >>unfortunately, now. the insurance commissioner is literally giving away his power. presumably in exchange for the insurance companies. be nice. you nicely. >>for their part, several insurance companies have said they have not been able to make a profit in california amid mega losses due to wildfires. garamendi acknowledges insurance companies can only succeed if they are financially strong, but he also says they need to be held accountable by the insurance commissioner. when premiums go up. >>the current commissioner, in my view, is not doing that. he's not transparent. responding, writing this in part, quote, garamendi is grandstanding. gets us nowhere and does nothing to address our ongoing insurance crisis. we're gonna get this fixed during an interview with us over the summer. a lot of spoke about his plan, he says will ensure insurance companies stay in california. one of his reforms would streamline california's insurance rate review process. that's the process that allows the state to approve or deny

healdsburg santa rosa saline all the way down the napa back to nevado. some very cold temperatures hovering right around the freezing as we're going to temperatures cool off into that clear skies that dry air even in the tri valley, the east bay are looking some cold temperatures early tomorrow morning numbers break down like this about 32 degrees and freezing in santa rosa. 34 in napa about 35 in livermore. maybe even some frost inside the bay with 30's in the south bay. >>thanks, lauren. well, happening right now in the south bay, a pedestrian is dead tonight after getting hit by a car on 6.80, just north of berryessa on tuesday night. chp had close all southbound lanes in that area to investigate the situation. and they just recently about an hour ago open one of those lanes, according to the agency's log, several drivers reported seeing the pedestrian running across the interstate shortly before 9 ahead of this crash. elsie's chp officers are diverting traffic while look at the evidence and they do not say when they're expected to reopen all of the

lanes. and a suspect wanted for 2 bombings in the bay area is arrested after a 20 year run from the law. 46 year-old daniel andreas san diego was one of the fbi's most wanted fugitives while he's now been charged with planting 2 bombs that exploded about an hour apart back on august 2003 on the campus of a biotechnology company in emeryville. he's also accused of setting off another bomb and a nutritional products company in pleasanton about a month later, the bombings didn't hurt anyone. and san diego was arrested in a rural area of wales and the uk. a man is in jail tonight accused of hitting an officer with the car door in rohnert park. police say this happened last night on class. a court near state farm drive. they say officers were trying to get the suspect out of his car because they believed he was under the influence of drugs. instead, police say the suspect hit one of the officers with the door and

then drove off. the man was eventually arrested and the officer who was hit was treated for his injuries at a local hospital. and hayward. a man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck last night near jackson and santa clara streets. police say the man was hit around 10 on monday while walking next to the intersection. investigators say the driver initially stopped but then drove off. that driver was arrested and then later released investigators are still finding out if alcohol was a factor in the crash. a federal appeals court is a green with a denver judge tonight to allow a transgender volleyball player from san jose state to play in the mountain west conference tournament. that's coming up. tuesday's ruling rejects a lawsuit by some players who argue that the transgender athlete is a safety risk and unfair. judge added that the lawsuit should have been filed earlier as the tournament has already been seated. and teams have been confirmed that they're playing
