5, 6 are in critical condition tonight after being shot at at their school in butte county. >>we're now learning that all schools operated by the 7th day adventist church will be closed tomorrow. it's to allow its members to spend time with their families and the shooting happened just after 2 this afternoon at the feather river school of 7th day adventists. that's about 10 miles south of oroville. investigators are still looking into what led to that shooting but have confirmed that the suspected shooter is dead. >>meeting when was cordial, there wasn't anything about meeting rise to concerns by a minister. and at this point we're trying determine veracity. state as to whether or not he actually was there to enroll talk about what's to work. that instead ruse to get on the campus. we're trying to figure out

>>the butte county sheriff ed at they have identified that suspect but aren't releasing the details just yet. they also said the shooter used a rideshare service to get to the school. authorities have since identified the driver and are interviewing him for more details. the fbi has also been called to assist with this investigation. and today shooting marks the 37th school shooting this year where someone was killed or injured. that's according to education week out of 37 shootings in the u.s. 16 people were killed. 7 of those were children and the other 9 were staff or other adults. so far. 52 people have also been injured. in response to the school shooting in butte county. a statewide alert was issued requesting schools run by the ministry of 7th day adventists to boost their security kron four's. lindsey ford has the latest. >>al com wednesday evening at mountain view academy in mountain view. it's one of several schools in the bay

volleyball tournament going on this evening at mountain view academy. >>not affiliated with the school, but i did speak to one gentleman who told me it's deeply disturbing. the 2 kindergartners were shot in mountain view. lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >>well, we are getting closer to finding out the fate of name of the many that the man accused of killing founder bob lee. the jury began their deliberations this morning. the prosecution is arguing many staff bob lee to death under the bay bridge last year. they say his motive was lee having a part in the drugging and assault of the many sister. as for the defense, they have maintained many acted in self-defense. after hearing all witness testimony and seeing all the evidence, the jury only has a few options considering the first-degree murder. if they come back that the da to prove that. >>they will then consider voluntary manslaughter and then move down to involuntary

day tomorrow, that ridge going kind of just lob over a little bit and we can somewhat allowing some of those clouds roll in still staying dry. it's basically pulling apart. the storm system is approaching the coastline, but the temperatures tonight will be chilly in spots. not really, really cold, but a low 40. so a little bite in the early on tomorrow morning. if you're getting up early and headed out the door as we head to the middle of day in the afternoon, these numbers looking very, very nice. maybe not 70 in san jose, but it's going to be close about 69 degrees. 69 in livermore. 66 in hayward, 64 in vallejo. 69 in santa rosa's temperature, probably a degree or 2 cooler just because some of the clouds going come by kind of knocking down the temperatures. just a couple degrees. but overall really, really stuck in a nice pattern. here now to start to cool down a little bit more as we get in toward the weekend. a few more clouds coming our way a ridge going to get hit by another weak weather system. but overall, nice and dry through the next 7. but the following weekend, maybe a different story. maybe start talking about some rain. stephanie. ok, thank you.

>>there you can see dramatic video where oakland homeowners watch as their house burns. that fire sparked this afternoon near telegraph and alcatraz avenues. crews say the fire spread to the front rooms of that home and the port area. thankfully, no one was injured, but there's no word on the cause of the fire just yet. and update tonight on an overnight standoff in valais. the suspect was finally arrested there around 3.30, this morning. according to police just before 11 yesterday morning, a woman reported her son had grabbed a gun in their home. she and her daughter left the house fleeing for their lives and heard a gunshot as they left. police spent more than 12 hours trying to get the suspect out of the home. they eventually deployed chemical agents inside and arrested that suspect peacefully. well, a new report reveals troubling conditions at a city or an animal shelter in san jose. the city claims there's overcrowding 30 kennels and

seth negligence at the san jose animal care center. and according to the shelters dashboard of the last year, nearly 600 animals died. there. that's in addition to those that had to be euthanized, those who run the shelter say they're working with the city to improve their conditions. >>staff participated the entire time during the audit, sharing their insights, showing what they think things should be moving none of the recommendations were surprised to us. we will need to see the management team at the center step up and deliver on the 39 recommendations that the auditor outlined will be looking at that very closely. >>and in may of 2025, will have an updated at our neighborhood services committee and will be able to look at progress against those recommendations. >>some of those recommendations include possibly expanding kennel space and increasing opportunities for adoption. >>i trust our voters to look at the facts to make its own conclusions. coming up, damage

>>welcome back. i'm stephanie rothman. a special election is set for next year in san mateo county to decide the fate of sheriff christina corpus. there's been a growing call for her to resign after an explosive report accuses her of creating a toxic work environments. some of those examples include using racial and homophobic slurs as well as having an inappropriate relationship with a co-worker.

the sheriff has denied all these allegations and has refused to resign. kron 4 sarah stinson has the latest. >>i checked in with san mateo county voters to see how they're feeling about the supervisors. latest effort to get the sheriff out of office. and it was a mixed bag. some people are not staying up to date on this while others expressed passionate opinions says a lot about that office in that position that there's a lot of scandalous things going on. i just really don't think it's light or justify what they're doing to 3 weeks after the release of a scathing report about san mateo county sheriff christina corpus. the board of supervisors now calling on voters to give them the power to remove her. we would never even want to have this type of power. but the reason that we need it is because >>of the threat to public sathe threat to public safety right now by this sheriff. >>the board unanimously voted on tuesday to put the new charter amendment on the ballot this spring during a

special election. it would give them the right to remove a sheriff. if there's just cause reasons are essentially misappropriation of funds, willful obstruction of investigations, violating the law. would you want to give the board the power to get rid of her our i would say so. yeah. i mean, they can do more investigations and we can. we just read what comes out on the internet. so they're more informed. i think so. sheriff corpus is coming up on 2 years in office out of a six-year term. >>currently the only way to fire her is a recall. but supervisor noelia says that could take time. we hope that our residents will not have to bear the burden of collecting. >>46,006 signatures just to get a recall on the ballot. and the reality is, is that? that recall could be as late as 2026. and that's too sheriff corpus opposed the charter amendment in a letter

to the board saying this will take away the voters choice. >>the deputy sheriff's association on the other hand supports it. it is still the voters power ultimately. >>and the bar is pretty high. if the voters approve it. people who work in this agency support are hopeful that the public will support it, too, because we need sheriff corpus out of office is humanly possible. >>the special election is set to happen on march 4th and if approved, this amendment will be on the charter until 2028. i have continuously tried to reach out to the sheriff to see if she'll do a sit-down interview with kron. 4 news. but i have not received an answer yet. i'm sara stinson reporting in san mateo kron. 4 news. >>san francisco is facing a budget shortfall of nearly 900 million dollars over the next 2 years. outgoing mayor london breed has suggested hiring freezes or cutting department spending by 15% to help. but the chair of the budget and finance committee says that's not practical.

sacramento county, mother regional park has now been temporarily closed after 31 birds were found dead. there. so far, officials haven't been able to say what led to their deaths cloud. it's a funny and has more. >>if you make your way over their regional park, you're going to be met with this sign that tells you the park is closed. now. i spoke with county officials and the jury is still out on what exactly killed these birds. however, they believe the avian

airline executives are in the hot seat tonight over high prices. wednesday, senators grilled the leaders of major u.s. airlines over the extra cost. they're charging their customers. washington, d.c., correspondent hannah brandt tells us all about that clash. >>the hearing got heated with senators slamming the junk fees that so many flyers are being forced to pay. well, airline executives argued they're just giving customers more choices. 5 on your airline to score double. it's terrible experience at a senate hearing, lawmakers went after airline executives from united american delta spirit and frontier expressed frustration at the extra fees. the companies are increasingly charging for things like back searcy choice. those lower fares, the so called economy class are. >>basically for people who. travel. with no more than a shirt on there. back and the

practices to help inform the council on upcoming policy decisions around racial equity. this includes a building up on current efforts providing accountability framework, moving forward, focusing on generational work and commitment to action. and this resolution holds real hope and promise for sacramento to realize that just multiracial democracy. those in attendance describe the pain of racial inequity ingrained in our community. the white supremacy culture dive experience from several of you have made it personal for many residents today. don't trust government and rightfully so because of the historical harm that's been caused. several speakers add they will not sit back and watch racial prejudice on the next generation. i want to say acknowledged the difficulties of the african american community and as a young mother. >>i will not sit around and wait for my son to be affected as well. other shared some of the results of racial injustice and the root of a lot of these problems that are causing communities of color, disproportionate. impact of

east bay, a state ordered environmental report reveals excessive radioactive waste at the albany fall. the park known for its public art installations and hiking trails was formally a landfill for construction debris. officials say multiple locations in the park have tested positive for ways that is likely a byproduct of that landfill. the city of albany is required to submit an action plan to the water board by the end of the month. fresno based company, raw farm is now being placed under a quarantine and is suspending distribution of its raw milk products. this comes after the bird flu virus was found in mc milk samples recently in november, california. health officials warn consumers not to string certain batches that were already on the shelves. this was after a nationwide outbreak of the bird flu was among dairy herds. now the state, the farm and the food and agriculture found the virus in battle products at the company's storage facility. the department has

thompson is the ceo of united healthcare. take a look at the scene. it happened around 6.45 wednesday morning. thompson was in town for an investors conference when he was shot after the shooting. police say the gunman was last seen running through an alleyway near the hotel. then hopped on the citi bike and was last seen riding that citi bike in central park. while the motive is still unclear. police say what is clear is this was not a random attack. >>this does not appear to be a random act of violence. the victim was in new york city to speak at an investor conference. it appears the suspect was lying in wait for several minutes. and as the victim was walking to the conference hotel, the suspect approached from behind and fired several rounds striking the victim, at least once in the back and at least once in the right calf. the gunman was last seen wearing a black ski mask at 10, a brown jacket and a backpack. apparently he

our way. nothing massive just yet. i think we have wait a little while for that. but we are going to see some changes overnight tonight began to see that already some haze in the atmosphere, little patchy fog trying to form out there along the coastline, looking for the berkeley hills. >>back toward the coastline. we may begin to see a little fog forming out there, too. but we've also had that haze from the some of the plumes kind of building up a lot of the area showing up yellow right now on back san jose show of some poor air quality right now. so it's going to be good to get a little more of an onshore breeze. that will start to clear things out a little bit. still hazy. as we look toward tomorrow afternoon. otherwise, yes, should be a nice night tonight. you're going to see some partly cloudy skies we head toward tomorrow morning. and then partly cloudy as we head throughout the day tomorrow. i think some clearing into the afternoon and then really temperatures begin to cool off a bit as we head in toward the weekend. good chilly in spots already is. 49 degrees in pacifica. 54 now in san francisco. you're looking at mid 40's in the dublin livermore. 47 degrees and below. 44 in the upper right now says these temperatures again, maybe not down the 30's but cold enough.

it's going to be chilly out there. a change is coming. those high-pressure started weaken just a little bit. a few more clouds roll in on in. and here we go. that ridge give way just a little bit, not enough to allow any rain to come in yet the jetstream holding in the north still. and that's going to kind of be the case. the system is going to come look right off the coastline, then just falling apart, leave behind some clouds. but the moisture going to stay north on saturday. we do have one storm a kind of clips far northern california, but that's about as close as it gets. and then high pressure takes over again by late next week, though. now those clouds start to roll back in may we start to talk about a chance of rain by next saturday night and into sunday temperatures for overnight lows. you got a lot of 40's out there overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning by day tomorrow. numbers, not bad. in fact, maybe just down a couple degrees. still some 60's in san francisco 50's 60's coast side. little bit cooler there with the seabreeze 62 in millbrae. look at about 65 degrees. redwood city, the south bay 60's, maybe alone, 70 or 2 out there by tomorrow afternoon. the hazy, as you make your way toward the tri valley. temperatures there in the 60's and about 69 degrees in danville, as you make your way back toward the coast. those
