kron four's lawrence karnow joins us with a look ahead at the weekend forecast. if you plan on going out, lawrence. >>it's a record breaking heat around the bay area. warm temperatures, unusually warm for the bay area. but that it's soon going to change out there right now. mostly clear skies as we get into the weekend, though, check out the forecast is a long-range computer models we had the weekend. finally, a storm system begins to punch through bringing a chance of some showers toward eureka in crescent city. the bay area, just some passing clouds but as we get in toward lot of part of the weekend. all of a sudden high pressure builds back in. we've got offshore wind in your thinking. well, boy, here we go again. we're back to that nice weather pattern. but this is more of a progressive weather pattern by that. i mean, it's going to continue to move. so as we head toward the middle of next week, first chance of showers may come about wednesday. that may be on to thursday and then a bigger storm system kept off the coastline as we head in toward late saturday night into sunday. that could be a major rainmaker rolling on in. and it comes at forecast. but overall looks like that pattern may switch gears and completely open up going from

forty-niners containing accusations that becker and other council members had an ethically close relationhips with the forty-niners football front office. he could face up to 4 years in county jail and will be sentenced next month. tonight, one person in critical condition after a fire broke out at his home in martinez. firefighters say they responded to a fireear the intersection of arthur road and palms drive shortly before 8 this evening. crews say a woman managed to get out on her own, but firefighters had to rescue a man and a dog. the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. but the dog unfortunately died. the caused that fire is under investigation. a longtime san jose state university professor says she's resigning this semester over the university's response to the ongoing war in the middle east. this is the latest development after more than 2 dozen students set up an encampment at the school protesting the war. kron. 4 shock moment reports from san jose state.

>>the professor here at san jose state says that she can no longer work here at the university after seeing how the university suspended a professor over their assistance with student protesters demonstrating against the war in gaza. >>it was a call for me to do more research. san jose state professor rachel mcloughlin has called the school home for decades. it's her alma mater and she's been teaching here since 2004, but now she's resigning because she said she's dissatisfied with the university's handling of the protest against the war in the middle east. the university administration. was responding to the encampments, which too. >>you know, repressed. >>it can't last several weeks. last semester protesters were demanding san jose state disclose and divest from any possible investments. it has in companies that benefit israel. the university did disclose its investments but told the community it has no direct ties to israel

employees say he got away with more than $10,000. alameda county has a new interim district attorney attorney royal roberts will be acting as the county's top prosecutor, at least through february. the change goes after voters recall da pamela price. legal analysts say even though roberts is only heading the office temporarily, he has his work cut out for him. >>the first order of business is to politicized. the da's office. this has been a lightning rod for community outrage. and i think it's important that the chief law enforcement officer in the county in still the public trust, even though it's interim position, that is what people were outraged by and that needs to be handled on day one. >>roberts will run the da's office until enemy to alameda county supervisors appoint a permanent successor and that may not happen until february. and oakland city officials are

proposing dramatic cutbacks, including 32 million dollars in cars or the police department and the closing 6 fire stations. that's among the recommendations in the new report by oakland city administrator to close a budget deficit projected to be 129 million dollars by the end of this fiscal year in june of 2025. among the cuts, the proposal calls projects a savings of 25 million dollars through a reduction in police overtime. and the elimination of special police units as well as in others, nearly 7 million dollars in savings by cutting to police academies. >>one increase in 9-1-1 response time. if we have less officers outside handling calls, also for future attrition. levels not out of the counties will reduce our staffing levels down. and it have to collapse specialized park. and that means we might not have a traffic enforcement division on the streets. so the motor cops outside.

>>the city council will decide whether to accept this budget plan balancing plan at its next meeting on monday. 2 people in san francisco have been sentenced to spend their life in prison for the 2017 deadly shooting of a photographer in twin peaks. police say the 71 year-old victim went to the location just to take photos. then the convicted pair robson for the camera. he was using shooting him and trying to sell that camera just less than an hour later. and this has 5 fast food customers in jail tonight after threatening to attack several employees in the east bay over her food order. police say this woman had this gun in her purse when she made threats yesterday afternoon at the fast food restaurant in san pablo. they say she was with her kids at the time and even had her 9 year-old daughter hold the person with a weapon inside. police did not say at which restaurant that it happened, but say the threats started after she claimed the french fries were missing from her meal. you're

francisco, a clothing store owner in north beach says that has been broken into for a 5th time. kron. 4 charles clifford has more. >>early thursday morning, this man was captured on surveillance video breaking into vacation, a vintage clothing store along grant street in north beach. he smashed a window in the front door and stole a handful of items. owner kristin klein says she's relieved the damage wasn't too bad but says this is the 5th time in 6 years that her store has been robbed. >>we got lucky time our alarms went off. the police were here. the neighbors called 9-1-1. report of things not as

theft is an issue that remains top of mind for law enforcement agencies across the country this holiday season. >>the sacramento county sheriff's office recently launched operation grinch to help lot stuff on the reports from sacramento without the program is difference this year. >>aren't the only ones that have to stay safe this holiday. businesses also have to protect themselves. and right now we're in arden arcade. you can see rapid billions. one of the busy shopping centers in this area. you can see we already have cars packed in their shoppers trying to get through their holiday shopping. an operation grinch really looks to keep these businesses safe and they are doing one thing differently this year. they're

different ways. you're going to see increased patrols in a lot of the busy shopping centers. >>but you may not see us doing some of the other things we're doing a lot of more covert operations through our retail theft group. and this year, gandhi says they are pulling more deputies to beef up the number of hidden choppers. they're sending out. we have people inside the stores in plain clothes acting like shoppers. and then when you're in there grabbing your stuff and trying to run out of the be greeted by a whole group of sheriff's deputies. the sheriff's department says businesses should also keep a watchful eye on gift cards recently, 4 men were arrested in connection with an alleged gift card tampering investigation in sacramento county. we're more than 7,000 cards had been compromised. if you're not going to monitor them with a very vigilant eye, keep them in a secure place where you can actually get them out to your customers, buy him. the sheriff's office says all of this to help keep business is safe more secure. the better. >>now the stories we spoke to mentioned to us that they've been seeing deputies out here at civilians. however, the

people working for the pentagon and the military come forward under oath and say that they have seen evidence of a program within the government. >>that has retreat crashed. peas and has made an attempt to try to reverse engineer that. so those questions that came up at that hearing couple of weeks ago were some of the same things that members of congress wanted to hear from arrow today. now, as members came out, several of them said something to the effect of they were happy. that arrow is at least explaining to them, does their work. they debunked certain stories and certain sightings of you. a piece explaining scientifically how they were able to rule out things that are anomalous are unexplainable. but also and as you just heard from congresswoman nancy mace, there are still several examples of sightings and of vehicles that are in our airspace and in the water that we cannot to this point. explain. those are areas where

congress still wants to focus and they say moving forward, they're going to still continue to investigate those kinds of things. now, there was a lot of interest in the case is very recently. just last week in new jersey, you had all of these sightings of what was being called drone incursions. but we don't really know what those things were that were flying above the new jersey air space. only that we've seen those videos from several people on the ground. i am told that the topic did come up in these classified hearings. however, if they didn't come up in much detail. so there are still a lot of questions, as you can imagine in that vein as well. t

out for congress to pass a budget. the government funding deadline is now just 2 weeks away. lawmakers haven't reached a deal just yet. washington, d.c., correspondent hannah brandt explains where things stand. >>the budget situation here on capitol hill is pretty uncertain right now because of shifting power dynamics. there's a debate about how to move forward on government spending. >>i'm cautiously optimistic i'm doing one of these is the double catholic iris. a time that we can get it congressman pat fallon has faith. lawmakers will pass a spending bill before the december 20. a shutdown deadline will be here as long as we have to because we don't want i don't mind was a of my republican colleagues as well. house democratic leader hakeem jeffries says negotiators are trying to come to an agreement on a full year long budget, but notes that there's still some issues they need to resolve to reach a deal. bipartisan conversations continue to be under way in

was elected. people thought they're going to be deregulation in the market. you see banking stocks really go up in terms of of their price points. so we're seeing a lot of, you know, you're today growth of the dow, the s and p 500. huge breaking all records. and that's because of the expectation now that works until we don't meet expectations and then you'll see the market get back to our reality. so investors have to be careful. you got to protect yourself against volatility and also promises donors become reality. so we have to protect ourselves against that. we have to be very diversified if we're wrong, we don't want to lose that much. and the fed started to do some interest rate cuts if and when you see it doing again next year. >>well, we expect them to reduce the lending rate the banks by another. 25 basis points, maybe 50 basis points, but more likely 25 basis points. that's one quarter. one percent that would give the lending rate down the banks at 4%. it was if i for
