the as there are some of those puddles little cause. some hydra playing a little bit. now we're looking out for is the advisories that we have still in place that covered the perimeter of the beige will notice here. this for another hour because the heavier rain is actually start to lift on out most of the heavy rain as we speak right now is pretty much in the east bay. the wind advisories you can see has also been chewed up a little bit. it's now in the east bay hills off to the east bay. this until 10 for this morning. get to the all important radar here. look at all those lightning strikes going on in the south bay, the peninsula also through the east bay. now, this did spawn a tornado that was in san francisco about an hour ago and also to daly city with all of that. and that, of course, is set to expire. but you can see with all the lightning you sometimes will get some lightning along with tornadoes because you're getting that instability. remember, it's the cold air aloft. that's kind of driving the engine for that volatility here. now, the good news is that everything is now finally starting to move out fairly rapidly here for us. but we do have some winds hanging on. here's a look at the winds, as you can

see right now, very windy at the coast. that's not a good day for the beach. even though the wind is going to be turning down a bit in the east bay. we're still in the double digits. don't forget that wind advisories still with us and parts of the east bay. so we're gonna keep it. wind and thunderstorm activity still going on this morning and we'll see the rain start to taper off into the early afternoon. get out. do what you got to do here. just give it a couple of hours to play on out. we'll give you more details what you can expect and also more rain coming early next week. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. that wet weather causing damages across the bay area. take a look at this. this is video we saw overnight of a tree blocking a road in san francisco. this was posted on this is an app from the soma neighborhood near mission street shortly after 5 o'clock this morning. and stormy weather continues to surge across the bay area. let's take a live look now at the pg outage map. you can see quite a few customers without power at this hour in san francisco, the area around golden gate park seeing nearly 4,000 people without power. stay with us. we'll keep an eye on

those outages for you throughout the morning. with all the rain we are tracking any flight impacts you might see as well. right now flight aware is reporting 34 delays and 2 cancellations at sfo oakland's airport. we're seeing 5 delays and is no catch a live. no cancellations so far at san jose international. 3 delays, no cancellations. there. we'll keep you updated on the numbers throughout the morning as well. in the north bay, the hours of rain caused flooding in parts of santa rosa for sarah stinson has the latest. >> the north bay hit hard by storms slamming the bay area. a tree came crashing down on anderson road in forest hills just before 7 friday night. an hour later, a car slid off a highway. 101 on-ramp and had to be towed. a flood watch is in effect for the north bay until sunday afternoon. the national weather service warning of possible flooding rising creeks and streams santa rosa fire marshal

warning drivers to heed to the potential road. closure signs. the flooded signs. >> not attempt to drive through those flooded roadways. if they do exist. >> water quickly accumulated in several areas of mendocino avenue. one of the driveways to santa rosa high schools started to flood and at this taco bell, the water levels only continue to rise in the parking lot. some who experienced the last major storm 3 weeks ago worried this one will pack the same punch a bit. yeah, i got cause. flood of before. so. >> i can say that thought about that yet. >> the wind is a major concern which could cause more trees to come down and possible. power outages to prepare. people could be seen running in and out of grocery stores gathering supplies after work friday. i wanted some comfort food. >> because i'm just have hunker down. and just relax. i think there are a lot of people here doing the same thing. eye-popping for the

are preparing your refrigerator and your food, maybe have ice in your in your refrigerator. for those purposes. if you have a generator, make sure that it's in good operating condition isn't isn't a well ventilated space and you can operate it safely. >> the utility predicts 10's of thousands of bay area customers will be affected by this storms. kron 4 continues to bring you the latest on the rain and flood watch. stay with us on air and online at kron 4 dot com. francisco's department of public health is reporting its first flu death of the season. they say the person was over the age of 65 and did not get the annual flu vaccine. health officials everyone it is not too late to get vaccinated against flu covid and rsv. they say it's especially important if you're age 65 and older or have underlying medical conditions. fbi says san francisco police played a role in tracking down the suspect accused of fatally shooting united healthcare ceo. the fbi saying their new

york office got a tip from sfpd on december 4th about the possible identity of the suspect. that tip was then sent to the nypd as part of their investigation. meanwhile, the new ceo of united health group share his reaction in the new york times. andrew witty vote. the american health system does not work as well as it should. and he understands people's frustrations. last week a night healthcare ceo brian thompson was gunned down in new york city. the suspect luigi mangione is charged with murder. united healthcare says the 26 year-old was never in short by the company, raising new questions about why thompson was targeted. fewer americans are dying from drug overdoses. according to the cdc, the white house is taking credit for the decline. was washington correspondent hannah brandt spoke with officials about what's behind that trend. >> new numbers from the cdc show a 17% decline in overdose deaths from july of 2023 to july of 2024, this is not only

the largest decrease on record. >> it's the 8th straight months of reporting decreases dr rolle group does the white house director of national drug control policy? these are just numbers. these are lives. and, you know, we didn't get there by accident. so how did it happen? the white house is a major component has been increasing funding for treatment and expanding access to medication like naloxone to reverse overdoses. been important to get it lowered price more accessible and get people to administer it bergen siko is a syracuse professor who studies addiction and public health. she agrees that federal policies are working. and when you started work on upstream issues sort of root causes of the problem. >> with a concerted effort, you finally start to see some progress. overdoses aren't just a u.s. problem. and both experts tell me that international efforts to crack down on drug trafficking globally are critical. >> the flows that come into the country. it's not a

problem that we can deal with on our own. soon. a new administration will take over and bergen sikoa's concerns they may cut. federal programs are funding targeted drug abuse. is there waste? yes, are there things you to be more efficient? yes, and we need to take good, hard look, rather than just taking at a chainsaw to everything, dr gupta hopes this is a priority that transcends doesn't care for if you are a little state or red state. this is america's issue in washington. i'm hannah brandt. >> taking a look at the numbers in the bay area. san francisco has also seen a decline in fatal overdoses as the city also expands on demand drug treatment city data shows treatment numbers are going up with a 46% increase in treatment, drugs describe and prescribe rather. san francisco residents seeking treatment support can call the number on the screen right there. you can see it right there to connected to the city's public health access line available from 08:00am to midnight still

instability factor that drove that little tornado warning that we have for san francisco and down to san mateo county for daly city that occurring just just before 6 o'clock here. sfo, you heard about the delays going on. there's a live shot as we speak right now. lots of cloud cover. lots of nastiness there. so waiting for improvement on that. look at how quickly in future cast this disappears and changes boom to 15 breaks in the skies a little bit. of course, sometimes it's bad because that you do have the cold air still upstairs. so you get some of operation and you just get more cloud cover yet again, just could repeats itself. now we're taking a break on sunday. yeah, maybe see some sun going on here. some clouds return and then into monday, here comes overnight and into your morning commute more of the wet stuff. and because there's very little in the way of resistance from the ground, we may have, again, instant flooding. so a lot of these flood statements, 3rd continuing on for at least the watches until tomorrow course, the river to get a couple days to recover, to get up to that

level as well. so everything is kind of delayed even though the rain may stop. we're still looking upstream for some issues, winds. by the way, they're going to be with us. a good, strong, stiff onshore wind, despite the fact that that wind advisory due to expire, still to be on the breezy side here and because of what ground utility poles don't have much resistance on that. sometimes i can cause a little bit of a problem there. so we're going to have still brisk winds, even though the advisory stuff should expire about the next hour. this is going into motion about what the projections are. not a whole lot in your sunday and monday. sometimes it is a little bit more windy after the storm, but looks like this go around. it will not be that case. so let's put it all together for you tonight. got stormy early-on that should say today, excuse me, breezy in some clearing and tomorrow skies open for a time now, then cloudy late with showers late in the next week. monday is the day to look for the dain. sun and clouds mix. cool with temperatures. upper 50's lower 60's even well inland. so we've got another hit on monday and then that will be it for a look. least a little while. we take a little bit of

a breather. here's the 3 day forecast going on here for you again, partly cloudy. we'll call it on sunday and into monday again, more rain starts to return for us there. so we're in the winter months of all of this magic. yeah, absolutely. it's multan snow. moulton snow. okay. or it says wizard of the weather right thanks a lot. >> the port of oakland is fighting to keep the word san francisco bay in the oakland airport's name. this comes after a court ruled the airport must stop using the name after the city of san francisco sued last month. the poor filed an intent to appecl the court decision on thursday claim a san francisco did not provide enough evidence for the court to prevent the airport from using the name. in a statement, an attorney for the port of oakland said in part, quote, san francisco is trying to ak and oakland to second-class citizens. the port has no interest in passing ak sfo. boy k is distinctly and proudly oakland. we spoke with san francisco city attorney david chiu who says he believes the

2 cities can work this out without going to court. >> frustrating because we really i don't think needed to actually go to litigation. we have offered repeatedly over a number of months before oakland made its final decision to move forward with a name that is completely confusing travelers to try to work it out. we think there's a way to work it out. that will work for both sides. we want to see our region's ride as a tourist destination. but what we don't want to is see travelers were confused, particularly those for whom english is not their first language suffer harm because of that. >> she says his office will continue to try and protect the san francisco trademark from infringement. the supreme court has agreed to take up a case involving california's vehicle emissions standards in this case, fuel producers are objecting to a waiver granted to california by the epa that allows the state to have stricter standards than the national standards. a federal appeals court has already ruled fuel producers do not have a right to sue because they have not produced

evidence showing how they would be affected by this waiver. the case will not be heard until the spring, but the outcome could make it easier to challenge federal regulations. a wave of mysterious drone sightings has people across the country demanding information from the government. but as reshad hudson reports, concrete answers are hard to come by. >> the federal government has ruled out the drones posing a threat to the public, but they're not saying exactly who's responsible for the drones or what they're doing. where are these drones coming from? that's the million dollar question. when it comes to the mystery in the sky since last month, people have reported seeing dozens of drones mysteriously hovering in the sky at night. they were first spotted in new jersey congressman josh gottheimer state. i just totally ridiculous that we don't have more information. new jersey senator andy kim posted this video of drone activity to ex kim says they were even clusters of drones as lawmakers demand answers. the

>> a new law taking effect january first could leave you with a parking ticket you're not careful at the start of the new year, drivers parking within 20 feet of an unmarked or marked crosswalk will receive a $40 fine. this is due to a new law known as daylighting as a daylighting law meant to create more visibility for drivers so they can see pedestrians before the crosswalk. california joins more than 40 states with a daylighting mandate. what

written warning started to go out early november. if you're headed across the pond next year, you'll have to get approval before taking your flight. americans heading to the uk will have to make sure they fill out a new electronic travel authorization forms. also known as eta's. the new rule takes effect on january 8th 2025 and applies to all travelers. the application costs just under $13. approval can take up to 3 business days. also, the european union's new entry and exit system is expected to launch sometime next year. visitors to more than 25 european countries, including spain, italy and france, expect to have their faces and fingerprints scanned. starbucks is set to issue smaller pay raises this year than in the past. a new report from bloomberg says it's the company's worst financial years since the pandemic. the pay increases vary from 2 to 3%, depending on seniority. the minimum last year was 3%. that raises go into effect on december. 30th. starbucks is tumultuous year included. boycotts in price increases

leading to a decline in sales. the biden administration is making a major investment that could bring up to 1700 new jobs to roseville the department of commerce signed an agreement with tech company bosh providing up to 225 million dollars to make semiconductor chips, the funding comes directly from the chips and science act signed by president biden to support domestic production of the chips. bosh had taken over a campus in roseville previously owned by tsi semiconductors back in 2023. the company expects to produce its first chips in his roseville facility starting in 2026. >> it's looking like we're going to be getting about another 2 to 3 feet of snow. >> in california's high country, people are preparing for multiple feet of snowfall. brace yourselves. well, back here at home read to continues to sweep across the bay area. another live look at our radar now. meteorologist dave spahr tracking the latest for us. the forecast up next on the kron. 4 morning news.

afternoon. opening up the skies a little bit. however, we still have the flood alerts stuff that we've been talking about. this is for another hour or so different areas are going to be expiring at different times of all this. but the watch business that's going remain through monday because we have another hit of rain. so we definitely to watch so on. and you can still have some issues with rivers even tomorrow, even though we're not going to be adding much to it because of problems already created that have yet time too. come to fruition, if you will. those winds, by the way, they're still with us. it's going to be breezy this afternoon. but the advisory i know it looks like it's really chopped up here and it's expected to expire about 10 this morning, but still looks like a brisk wind expected, you know, winds in the 2030, mile per hour range. that's just below the wind advisory zone and watch out for still continuation of maybe some power outages along with that. so back to the radar that we are. you see how spotty it is off towards the west to the east is where the heavier stuff is. ben and back to the history lesson again, mostly it's been the lightning bolt strikes that we've seen in the

snowfall has been steady over the last few days, but heavy snow is expected to start around midnight near donner summit, according to the central sierra snow laboratory. they kaseya around one to 3 inches per hour continuing through the late saturday afternoon, we spoke with the lab who says this is a good storm for them and it's helping build snow-packed. realistically, it's it's the next 24 hours that are the interesting period. it's looking like we're going to be getting about another 2 to 3 feet of snow in that time. so there's >> a likelihood to have whiteout conditions, but the heavy snowfall rates and the intense winds, roads going to be a disaster. but temperatures will be relatively cool. luckily, this won't be that backbreaking sierra cement that we're used to, but it'll be a little bit lighter and fluffier because of those cool temperatures. >> so if you aren't already up there, you need to wait and please stay off the roads from now until sunday, which it

after a controversial court decision allowing bail the suspect. he again accused it of being behind the death of that community. officer. >> now, this fan was hit and killed while conducting a traffic stop unfair to policy is believed to have been drunk driving a santa clara sheriff's office says as of friday morning, palacios is not posted bail. the suspect has prior arrests for dui faces a murder charge and 2 felony duis. his next court appearance is scheduled for early january. in the east bay, a car rams into the back of a fire truck in orinda. this happening yesterday afternoon on highway 24 near the caldecott tunnel. crews say the fire truck was parked. 12 firefighters were responding to an accident. 2 fire crew members and at least one passenger were rushed to the hospital. newly released video shows a bar police shooting. now before we show this video, we do want to warn you it could be disturbing for some to watch.

>> gonna miss you. >> police, they say the shooting happened after 2 officers responded to reports of reckless driving at the union city stations parking lot when they approached the driver. officers say they asked about her expired registration. they say she chose not to follow police orders and lied to them about her first name. they say that she grabbed driver's license from the cops and then drove off. that's when in response. but are police opened fire shot her in the upper body? she was taken to the hospital and later discharged. the da's office is investigating the officer who pulled the trigger has been placed on administrative leave. a new california bill aims to protect schools and childcare centers from ice raids. this as president elect donald trump vows to follow through with his mass deportation plan. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> to protect our immigrant students, something member elm road suit. he says that's the goal of his new bill. ab 49

also known as the california safe haven schools and childcare at if signed it prohibit employees at california k through 12 public schools and childcare facilities from allowing officers with federal immigration and customs enforcement also known as ice to enter a school site or child care facility for any purpose without first providing valid identification. a written statement of purpose, avella judicial warrant and approval from the school district superintendent or director of the child care center. we need to protect these sensitive locations. we shouldn't have our children being afraid of going to school. >> and we shouldn't have parents being afraid of dropping the kids off at sochi himself. a democrat who serves as the chair of the assembly education committee says if ice officers do meet the requirements to enter a school facility, his bill would still restrict their access only to areas where no children are physically he hopes his bill sends a clear message to the estimated 1 million california k through 12 public school

students. >> who have at least one undocumented parent. we're going to stand up to protect them. and that's what this bills. he also wants his bill to send a clear message to president-elect donald trump, ending the agency scale back its writers treatment and fear that. >> you know, has been triggered a president elect donald trump's threat of mass deportations. and so this bill is seeking to address that that that our students are having ice raids at school sites, you being torn away from and their parents, their family members. we reached out to ice to ask if the agency takes part in immigration enforcement raids at schools. well, they said they would not comment on routes to legislation. they did direct us to guidelines on the u.s. department of homeland security's website directing officers to refrain from enforcement actions at or near with the federal government describes as protected areas including schools. >> places where children

we continue to talk to you besides just the radar shots, too. the good news is the heaviest rain that we've had so far. that's pretty much it. and we're going to be seeing the afternoon, a big improvement from that to even some raise a son working in here, too. as you can see, some sun trying to poke out there little bit. now this flood advisory is going to be canceled. a different sponsor expired different spots around the bay at different times. you can see the east bay hills is now out of that. but up in the north bay, it's still going to be until 8.15, 9 o'clock, 10 o'clock in some areas. so it's going to be with us in different locations are still looking out for some of that river flooding as well. now until 10 this morning that a wind advisory is still with us. now, even all day this afternoon. want to see winds at a good clip going on here. we're talking. 25 35 miles per hour, which on balance, that's a little bit below the threshold. that's why they have an extended at all this afternoon. but as you can see, it's with us until 10. but everybody look out for kind of breezy to really windy conditions. still in effect, there. there's a look at the golden gate bridge and you can make out some of that blue skies making the appearance

keep you updated on those numbers throughout the morning. in the north bay, the hours of rain caused flooding in parts of santa rosa kron sara stinson reports. >> the north bay hit hard by storms slamming the bay area. a tree came crashing down on anderson road in forest hills just before 7 friday night. an hour later, a car slid off a highway. 101 on-ramp and had to be towed. a flood watch is in effect for the north bay until sunday afternoon. the national weather service warning of possible flooding rising creeks and streams santa rosa fire marshal warning drivers to heed to the potential road. closure signs. the flooded signs. >> not attempt to drive through those flooded roadways. if they do exist. >> water quickly accumulated in several areas of mendocino avenue. one of the driveways to santa rosa high schools started to flood and at this taco bell, the water levels only continue to rise in the parking lot. some who

kron 4 dot com. the fbi says san francisco police played a role in tracking down the suspect accused of fatally shooting united healthcare ceo. the fbi saying their new york office got a tip from sfpd on december 4th about the possible identity of the suspect. that tip was then sent to nypd as part of their investigation. meanwhile, the new ceo of united healthcare group unite a shared his reaction in the new york times. andrew witty wrote the american health system does not work as well as it should and he understands people's frustrations. last week united healthcare ceo brian thompson was gunned down in new york city. the suspect luigi mangione is charged with murder. the united healthcare system says the 26 year-old was never a sure by the company crazy raising new questions about why thompson was targeted. and local police are looking for a person who they say may be connected to the deadly shooting of this teenager. 17 year-old clay john tober bundy was killed november 2021. investigators

recently released that image showing a person of interest next to a black car believed to be an infiniti coupe. they say the shooting happened near carrollton avenue. if you have any information, please give police a call. fewer americans are dying from drug overdoses. according to the cdc, the white house is taking credit for the decline. was washington correspondent hannah brandt spoke with officials about what's behind this trend. >> new numbers from the cdc show a 17% decline in overdose deaths from july of 2023 to july of 2024, this is not only the largest decrease on record. >> it's the 8th straight months of reporting decreases dr rolle group does the white house director of national drug control policy? these are just numbers. these are lives. and, you know, we didn't get there by accident. so how did it happen? the white house is a major component has been increasing funding for

have offered repeatedly over a number of months before oakland made its final decision to move forward with a name that is completely confusing travelers to try to work it out. we think there's a way to work it out. that will work for both sides. we want to see our region's right as a tourist destination. but what we don't want to is see travelers were confused, particularly those for whom english is not their first language suffer harm because of that. >> chew says his office will continue to try and protect the san francisco trademark from infringement. the supreme court has agreed to take up a case involving california's vehicle emission standards. in the case, fuel producers are objecting to a waiver granted to california by the epa that allows the state to have stricter standards and the national standards. a federal appeals court has already ruled fuel producers do not have a right to sue because they have not produced evidence showing how they would be affected by the waiver. the case will not be heard until the spring with the outcome could make it easier to challenge federal regulations. a wave of

that. it happened friday morning at collins cafe in san francisco's mission district. police say the thief used pepper spray to fight off the employee but that didn't work. you can see there the worker and other witnesses were able to hold the suspect down until police arrived. the thief was arrested. we're told the cafe worker is recovering from their injuries this morning. a new law taking effect january first could leave you with a parking ticket if you're not careful at the start of the new year, drivers parking within 20 feet of a marked or unmarked crosswalk will get a $40 fine. that's due to a new law known as a daylighting law meant to create more visibility for drivers so they can see pedestrians before the crosswalk. california joins more than 40 states with a daylighting mandate. and morning started to go out early november. if you're headed across the pond next year, you'll have to get approval before taking your flight. americans heading to the united kingdom will have to make sure they fill out a new electronic travel authorization forms. also known as eta's. the new rule takes effect january 8th. 2025

man accused of killing community service officer long fan. turns out that they are still behind bars. this comes after a controversial court decision allowing the suspect to post bail and leave jail in august. officer families hit and killed while conducting a traffic stop. one player to palacios is believed to have been drunk driving the santa clara sheriff's office says as of friday morning, palacios has not posted bail. the suspect has prior arrests for dui faces a murder charge and 2 felony duis. his next court appearance is scheduled for early january. in the east bay. a car rammed into the back of a fire truck in orinda. this happened friday afternoon on highway 24 near the caldecott tunnel. crews say the fire truck was part while firefighters were responding to an accident. 2, 5, crew members and at least one passenger were taken to the hospital. newly released video shows a bar police shooting. before we show you that footage, we do want to warn you it could be disturbing for some to watch.

undocumented parent. we're going to stand up to protect them. and that's what this bills. he also wants his bill to send a clear message to president-elect donald trump, ending the agency scale back its writers treatment and fear that. >> you know, has been triggered a president elect donald trump's threat of mass deportations. and so this bill is seeking to address that that that our students are having ice raids at school sites, you being torn away from and their parents, their family members. we reached out to ice to ask if the agency takes part in immigration enforcement raids at schools. well, they said they would not comment on routes to tease legislation. they did direct us to guidelines on the u.s. department of homeland security's website directing officers to refrain from enforcement actions at or near with the federal government describes as protected areas including schools. >> places where children gather medical or mental

shops in sausalito to so addition checking out our gingerbread houses, make sure you also show up and support small business because we all really need that during holiday season and tell us a bit about the run that's happening tomorrow is the dixie kids. 5 k jingle bell run. so actually to see kids is a program that goes into areas where they're traditionally isn't funded track team and they get kids coaching in the get them uniforms and they prepare them to run the dips, the race. and so this is that training and all of the funds raised from the 400 runners. we're expecting tomorrow in credit is not great. it's totally sold out of the running great city of sausalito staff. i think our community development director brandon phelps will be out there to him in a that well we'll see on the record over and yeah, so that's for a great cause. and all of the funds go towards paying for things like uniforms, shoes, race entries because i can get kind of expensive them and it's a lot of fun with the big pancake breakfast afterwards. wow. many exciting things happening in the city of sausalito. say

clouds to now. we do have the flood alerts advisory now here for you until noon early early this afternoon, depending on the exact location. now, some of the rivers have already had problems develop and they're going to be future problem. so there can still be flooding near river such as the russian river, minor flooding, maybe but still will be some flooding around some of the rivers. and that will happen even outside these alerts oblem already created upstream, if you will, will take a time to kind of play out a little bit. meanwhile, those winds this expires by 10:00am today, too. but we'll probably continue have some windy conditions all day today. those winds in the 30's to near about 40. you can expect live shot of the golden gate bridge note, the blue skies near the banner there. i know it's a mixed bag of what we're looking at here. there's the heavy rain that you can see at the very start of this loop. you can see all the yellows and everything. then it breaks up and then you see some minor or a more moderate rain kind of filling in behind this is favoring more the northwest now rather than the

washington correspondent hannah brandt spoke with officials about what's behind the trend. >> new numbers from the cdc show a 17% decline in overdose deaths from july of 2023 to july of 2024, this is not only the largest decrease on record. >> it's the 8th straight months of reporting decreases dr rolle group does the white house director of national drug control policy? these are just numbers. these are lives. and, you know, we didn't get there by accident. so how did it happen? the white house is a major component has been increasing funding for treatment and expanding access to medication like naloxone to reverse overdoses. been important to get it lowered price more accessible and get people to administer it bergen siko is a syracuse professor who studies addiction and public health. she agrees that federal policies are working. started work on upstream issues, sort of root causes of the problem.

uniform size. yes. and when they're it, when people are like, oh, we drop it in the deep fryer and fry it. we keep it deep fryer with just like kuz so that it stays gluten free as and then when they come out, this is what they look like of. it's beautiful. so for the traditional it's just like a with a little bit of salt on top as it out of the fryer. and then we have apple sauce, a little apple sauce and a little sour cream. and these are totally traditional. and what's the applesauce and sour cream had to what's happening with the potato? it's actually quite quite a nice when you need it. you get a little bit of sweetness from the from the apple and then you get a little bit of the titans from the sour cream and it really works with the potato and onion. it's just like that. yeah, it's a great it's a great marriage in your mouth. populace and then one of my favorites we called the swiss like a because we have rockland cheese and i have it under here under under the and for that when we take the like

this. a cafe worker jumped into action to stop a man from stealing a customer's bag. it happened friday morning at carlin's cafe in san francisco's mission district. police say the thief used pepper spray to fight off the employee, but that didn't work. the worker and other witnesses were able to hold the suspect down until police arrived. the thief was arrested and we're told the cafe worker is recovering this morning. a new law taking effect january first could leave you with a parking ticket if you're not careful at the start of the new year, drivers parking within 20 seat of a marked or unmarked crosswalk. we'll get a $40 fine. that's due to a new law known as a daylighting law meant to create more visibility for drivers so they could see pedestrians before the crosswalk. california joins more than 40 states with

a daylighting mandate. written warnings started to go out early november. if you're headed to cross the pond next year, you'll have to get approval before taking your flight. americans heading to the uk will have to make sure they fill out new electronic travel authorization forms. also known as eta's. the new rule takes effect on january 8th 2025 and applies to all travelers. the application costs just under $13. approval can take up to 3 business days. also, the european union's new entry and exit system is expected to launch sometime next year. visitors to more than 25 european countries, including spain, italy and france and expect to have their faces and fingerprint scan. the biden administration is making a major investment that could bring up to 1700 new jobs to roseville. the department of commerce signed an agreement with tech company bosh providing up to 225 million dollars to make semiconductor chips. the funding comes directly from the chips and science act signed by president biden to support domestic production of those chips. bosh had taken over a

morning. chp issued an amber alert to finding this abducted teen. officers say yes, maker era bravo was abducted from san jose on friday night. she is described as 5 foot and 2 standing 5 feet and 2 inches tall, weighing around 100 pounds. she has pink hair and brown eyes. she was described as last wearing gray and white pajamas. the chp also looking for this man that they suspect abducted her. he's been identified as know up him until he's described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing around 155 pounds. chp says payment hill was last seen driving a 2006 honda accord with a california license plate 9 z 9, 7, 7, and if you have any information, reach out to chp. this new video, it shows crews fighting the franklin fire from the sky. the blaze in malibu has burned more than 4,000 acres. at last check 30% contained. 14 structures

california bill aims to protect schools and childcare centers from ice raids. this as president elect trump vows to follow through with his mass deportation plan. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> to protect our immigrant students, something member elm road suit. he says that's the goal of his new bill. ab 49 also known as the california safe haven schools and childcare at if signed it would prohibit employees at california k through 12 public schools and childcare facilities from allowing officers with federal immigration and customs enforcement also known as ice to enter a school site or child care facility for any purpose without first providing valid identification. a written statement of purpose, avella judicial warrant and approval from the school district superintendent or director of the child care center. we need to protect these sensitive locations. we shouldn't have our children being afraid of going to school. >> and we shouldn't have parents being afraid of dropping the kids off road to cheat himself. a democrat who

look outside your window cooking meats outside. yeah. it's a this is a going lifting on us. we're gonna get some sunshine here in the next couple of hours. >> kind of a mixed bag as we have storm tracker, 4 noticing a new line dropping south from southern marin. you can see into san francisco we can expect this is not the intensity of what we've already been through. >> however, because problems have been created, you can have still some localized flooding added to what we have here. and then again, as we get into monday or even tomorrow, there could be still be some flooding because the streams have already up street have had some problems that will flow downstream. this is the storm tracker into motion to get an idea where but he was coming from now. we're going to rotation from the low up towards our north before those a kind of a pocket of some subtropical moisture. we were getting that sir was the intense rain we had earlier east bay shoreline. there you can see some of the blue skies don't appear on through leftover with the fog, but it's what this all together for you. longer-range store me early today. then spotty afternoon showers and some sun coming out there a little bit more looks like for tomorrow with the sun and clouds mix will say on balance there.

then we have some more rain coming our way on monday. that will be predawn as well. not as intense but will be another dose at everything we have. we get a nice break all week long and then looks like some more rain coming into saturday will be as we get into next weekend back to future cast for for today. again, very spotty. but nice opening up of the skies, particularly for tonight. we should mention still kind of windy, though, even though that wind advisory expires and so to be in the 30 mile per hour range, not as windy tomorrow. then as we get into monday. here you go. here's the next batch to make note up back to those winds. kind of a good clip going on to right now. but it looks like it's going to linger into the afternoon, not at the threshold of a wind advisory, but still kind of a bit on the windy side, breezy more so tomorrow with a mixed bag of sun and clouds with all of that. don't forget we have all this moisture at the surface. when you get the sun out, you just boom produce more cloud cover. and even sometimes a little shower as well. how much weight of collecting the collection bucket? well, a little bit more this afternoon, but the real the

us how concerned your team is right now about the situation? >> yeah. so right now we're in the process of damage assessment. all departments are out. we have the operational teams out in the field and we are collecting a pretty significant amount of damage. information is coming in with a lot of trees down. we've had some building damage and that information is just coming in fences trees on cars and that kind of thing. so it's really important for us that the public really tries to stay safe. safety is the my safety. but citing information about what's going on is what's happening now. and national weather service actually on their way as we've been told this morning, the way that they assess whether or not a tornado actually hit us is by getting on site

looking around and collecting this damaga assessment. so that's what worry we will be doing the rest of the that's going to be a very interesting conversation for sure. i mean, because tornado certainly aren't very common for us here in the bay area. >> no, they're i was saying it's sort of like that. people in kansas getting a tsunami so, you know, we have had to tsunami is i'm sorry, tornadoes that hit either in san francisco are near only twice once in once in 2005, which is really south of the city says is a very, very rare occurrence. people were quite alarmed. so we've just been trying to, you know, push information out and just like the tsunami warning, which was less than 2 weeks ago. you know, there was no notice for this. we had no notice either at permanent emergency

management. so we recommend that when people get to notifications that they read he whatever warning. but also immediately look for more information and thankfully it was, again, just like this, not me a list over before it started and we're grateful that as of now, we don't have news of any injury from it. >> absolutely there are also seeing a power outage is affecting thousands of people in san francisco right now. what is the guidance for people who are living in the what should they be aware? >> yeah. so we've also been tied it on several cars and pg e already this and the numbers of the outage are going down. i think we started at like 30 13,000 customers out were down last. i heard it was like below 7,000. so we're hoping those pg e crews are out doing restoration, but it is still very windy. we're still gonna

have windy conditions today. we may have more outages and we really recommend people are always ready for a power outage can happen for many reasons. and get prepared ss 72 that organs are our preparedness website. if you're if you're not sure where to start go there, but hopefully these power outages will not be sustained, will get pg. e's getting everybody back online now. yeah, absolutely. and what kind of conditions are you anticipating for san francisco today and through the rest of the weekend that >> people should be aware of? yeah, i would just say today we're still going to have wind. it's very windy. i'm looking out my window right now. treat lots of trees blowing. and so my recommendation at recommendation for both is generally too. to the extent that you can stay definitely away from trees are rec park department has shut down some of the parks that you know, more vulnerable for trees

coming down. so really just think about your surroundings. and to the extent that people can kind of stay ride this storm out in safety is better. conditions are improving. they're going to be better by the end of the day. and we're looking at probably sunshine a better weather just you all are reporting for tomorrow. but for today, you know, sit tight. please think about your surroundings please stay safe. our. first responders and our street crews are extremely busy right now. cleaning up clearing roadways, removing hazard. so to the extent that we can ask parents the skins to not create more hazards by keeping themselves safe. that would be the best thing. yeah, we were just so we're showing some video right now takene from by one of our reporters. it was shoe is on the landing and that video was taken earlier overnight showing. >> that rain coming down over japan town really intense in san francisco. mary, as we

wrap things up here, give any good tips for the community during these types of weather conditions. >> yes, again, stay off the roads. stay away from trees. to the extent possible, you know, do not be out and about when these conditions are forecasted. our department has pushing a lot of social media and alerts over the last 48 hours that this storm was coming. thankfully, you know, it was it was early in the morning on a saturday. and so, you know, i came into work might like 15 minute drive to get to the office. was pretty easy because there wasn't weren't a lot of people on the road. you know, we really want people to just kinda is sits high ride this storm out you know, keep yourself safe so that we can address what's already damage and cleanup that we have to do right now. >> all right, mary ellen carroll, executive director of san francisco, department of emergency services. thank you
