bridge kind of dark right now as we just start the day with some light rain working. here course that will intensify a little bit as the morning wears on. there you see the line just making its passage across the bay. so as to make it into east and the south bay, as we speak, the winds are kind of variable right now. they will have an uptick happening for today, though, though, that's going to favor pretty much along the coast of looks like you can see the winds again, kind of variable, 10 up to 10 miles per hour. little bit beyond. then as we get into tomorrow, looks like we're doing it earnest breaking here, at least in the afternoon, get some solid sunshine and you're working in here because we do have an unsettled week. that lies ahead. this is waiting for us, too. and you can see the success of storm systems out to sea. so the breakdown for you hour by hour. let's keep the rain showers in here. at least in the morning hours. then breaking up for your afternoon. and those will be showers. not that heavy rain going to forecast a bit. stephanie. >> thank you. breaking overnight in oakland, we saw heavy police activity near the fairmont avenue and kempton avenue area. that's near oak park studios association and

oak park. and you can see from this footage, police actively working the scene. we've reached out to opd and we'll update you as soon as we get more details on what the situation is here. let's turn now for a live look at sfo this morning. is that look nice you can see a number of planes out on the tarmac as folks start to make their way out for their holiday travel plans. aaa is expecting nearly 8 million people to travel by air this holiday season, as says they're expecting their busiest travel days to be today. and tomorrow with about 160,000 people flying this weekend. right now flood aware is reporting 67 delays and 4 cancellations at sfo. we're also tracking flights in the east and south bays. flight aware is reporting 15 delays and no cancellations at oakland international. 11 delays and 0 cancellations at san jose international. we'll keep you updated on those numbers throughout the day. gas prices have seen a slight dip as we head into one of the busiest travel weekends of the

year. according aaa. here are the average prices per gallon across the bay area. the most expensive in sonoma at $4 and $0.54 san francisco at 4.44. and sandra taylor for 43 other counties include napa at 4. 42 moran at 4.39. in alameda county can expect to pay for 32 a gallon for 30 in contra costa for 26 in santa clara for 25 in solano. and if you're heading out, triple a says to be sure to leave extra time as traffic is expected to pick up. so make sure you plan ahead and read, drive safer. it's been a week since a 6 year-old boy died after wandering onto a freeway in san jose. prof reject moment. reports from an event organized to help the family pay for the boy's funeral. people come from all over 4th christmas lights of willow clegg. >> a reminder of holidays spent with those we love. by but at the end of the row of vendors friday night.

landing friday at the former alameda naval air station. the fire department was called just before 10, 30. they say the plane was heading the palo alto airport. that's when it started having engine trouble. there were 2 people on the plane. neither were hurt. the faa is now investigating. and the party is over for party city store announced they're going out of business. the announcement left customers and staff in shock. kron four's lezla gooden went to daly city to get more details. >> officially over for party city after 40 years. the large chain is closing on thursday. employees at the party city located in daly city. we're told the news and there's store will close their doors at the end. a february 2025. >> yeah. if you are closing. >> the daly city location was opened on friday with shoppers bustling around preparing for parties and christmas day, pamela says she saw the news

positions within the shelter had to be frozen. and that did impact front counter staffing animal intake staff. now one animal control officer in a registered vet tech position has been frozen. they have they have been frozen rather due to the city's ongoing financial crisis. as a result of the under staffing, the shelter will be closed to the public on tuesdays and wednesdays starting january 6 of the new year previously, those days were open from 11:00pm to 05:00pm. the new hours are on your screen right now. as part of tesla's as excuse me, a part of tesla road east of livermore is finally back open. alameda county officials sharing these pictures of before and after the construction. the road closed in february because of storm damage. it was supposed to reopen last month but was delayed because of the bad weather. and in the south bay, free rides will be available on new year's eve. the santa

clara vta is continuing its tradition of offering free bus. we're light rail service starting at 08:00pm december 31st. the free service rides are is available until 05:00am on new year's day. so if you're planning on having some drinks will ring in the new year, this can be a nice option for those looking to get home safely while saving some money. and this time next month, francisco will have a new mayor this past election season. the city's approach to public safety, homelessness and it's struggling. downtown area were heavily scrutinized and voters ultimately elected nonprofit executive and levi strauss heir daniel lurie into office voting for change. there. on friday, lurie laid out his plans for his administration saying it will be routed in 3 things. accountability, service and change. number one, focus on public safety. i walked 6 street with sfpd last weekend. i'm going to continue. >> to walk the streets and figure out how do we get control again of our streets. we cannot have the open air drug markets and drug dealing and drug use happening in our

60's all the way into early next week. again, watching for the nice little break of action happening for you on tuesday afternoon night and wednesday and thursday. little bit, too. so be some rain jumping in and out of this forecast all week long. so keep in mind. very good to know how the umbrellas ready to go. all right, dave, thanks a lot. >> happening now, it's that time of year again, the holiday travel rush well underway and aaa says it's going to break records yet again. experts say that they're expecting nearly 8 million people to travel by air this holiday season on the roads. aaa says more than 100 million travelers will hit the roads across the country. that's more than what they saw. pre-covid. let's take a look at what triple-a says of the best times to hit the roads for today. they say before 02:00pm and on sunday, you want to get out there before noon. if you plan on heading out on monday, the best time you want to leave is before 11 that morning. and a look at those gas prices before you hit the roadways. aaa says it's seeing a slight

dip in gas prices. these are the most expensive in the bay area at the moment. chp has maximum enforcement period starts up on tuesday and runs through christmas night. officers will be out in full force, keeping an eye out for unsafe drivers last year, more than 900 people were arrested for dui during the christmas inforcement period. meantime, bay area airports are busy with travelers moving back and forth to their holiday destinations. here's a look at oakland airport on friday. they are expecting more than half a million people to pass through between now and early january. meantime, sfo says it expects about 100 60 people to pass through the airport every day for the next few days to come for us to recess to reports. >> here at sfo, it may not look like much right now, but it has been a hectic day here at the airport is everyone is heading out for the holidays. ready to roll. are you heading, tim? you just it is that time of year where travelers are jamming to sfo to get away for the holidays.

according to flightaware at sfo, there have been 75 delays and 4 cancellations at oakland airport. 15 delays and 0 cancellations at san jose. 16 delays and 0 cancellations. some lawmakers are raising concerns over the tsa's facial recognition technology. a bipartisan group of senators say there's not enough oversight and they're asking the department of homeland security's inspector general to investigate and report to congress whether there are safeguards in place to protect passenger privacy. it's currently in more than 200 airports nationwide with tsa planning to expand tsa said in a statement the images are immediately delete it before the next passenger approaches. >> for your help this morning, very farmers in california are now isolating cattle infected with the bird flu. there's been cases reported at nearly 700 dairy farms in the state, mostly in the central valley. health officials share with the quarantine. looks like. >> restricts movement of high-risk cattle and also

attempt to take the suspect into custody was unsuccessful. the officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting according to san francisco police. the suspect is believed to be a security guard at this dior store. >> and employee of the store says they are not commenting on the incident. investigators combed the scene friday morning, but as of p g's, assistant chief says the investigation began thursday evening. >> in the area of kearney and post streets when officers responded to a report of speeding vehicle that had gone on to a sidewalk and hit 2 pedestrians and a bicyclist near union square suspect still on the sidewalk, pursued the victim and hit the back of the bicycle. >> victim of that collision which are labeling aggravated assault. jumped off and took off running and we believe ran up to 2.33. setter at this point. we haven't found that victim and we definitely want victim to come forward. the suspect then tried to take the his vehicle. he was unsuccessful in doing so.

>> it did take some of the victim's property, put it in his vehicle and then fled the scene. the 2 pedestrians, a woman and girl, were taken to the hospit l and are expected to survive. >> hours later, police identify the suspect vehicle at the dior store after police shooting. he was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. police recovered a firearm at the scene. >> and investigators did not release details on what prompted the shooting. but as fpd plans to hold a town hall within 10 days about this case, which is department policy following a shooting by an officer reporting here in san francisco, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> happening now, police are searching for 2 men, they say broke into a daly city pizza shop and store 2 safes officers say more than $3,000 was taken. it happened at mountain mike's pizza on skyline plaza earlier this month. police say that the suspects smashed into the front door, took the safes and then drove off in a white toyota tacoma in sedan. anyone with information about this is

asked to call daly city police. and new this morning, a convicted murder has been found guilty of killing 2 women in fremont in 1986. take a look at your screen now. david misch. now, 63 was convicted of the murders of 18 year-old michelle, a savior and 20 year-old jennifer doing their bodies were discovered in a remote area and dna evidence linked to miss to the crime police. they say a partial license plate found on one of the victims also tied him to the murders. ty, the suspect to the murders, rather the case remained cold for decades until a detective reopened in 2016, finally bring justice to the victims and their families. issues already serving a life sentence for another murder. san jose mayor matt mahan weigh in on proposition. 36, the measure which increases penalties for fentanyl dealers and excuse me for fentanyl dealers and theft crimes. and that went into effect this week. a man says that prop 36

course, you know, i just for example, cole. i'm a staunch believer that we cannot have co come through. oakland. you know, there were conversations that were had and i continue to say that no, i will not allow for cold to come in. and so we see people who have invested in coal across the country. billionaires coming in to actually remove me from office. when you get into these leadership position, it is so critical that you represent your values because the general public or not is is not going receive and half in may never have all the full 100% information for whether it's legal purposes or what have you. but you have the information. it is up to us leader what you do with that information. do you go a long just to get along? where do you go and you lead through your values because you know what is right for the city. why didn't you issue a rebuttal statement in the voter guide when it came to the recall? you know, i mean, obviously, this is first time ever for a recall of the mayor. you know, and running.

the city is always my top priority. and so that's what i was hyper focus on making sure that are homicide levels were, you know, decreasing making sure that a crime levels was decreasing. we have economic workforce development, you know, that's coming in. we have the coliseum cell. we had all these different things that were happening in my priority is always to be the mayor. first that the end of the day for me. again, it's not about playing the politics. it's about ensuring that oakland continues its positive track again with so it's such a sensitive process that if you let your foot off the gas just a little bit, we can see oakland spiral. yeah, i hear that. but i mean, i that was an opportunity to also. >> speak your case against well-funded campaign against low. that was one opportunity. but there's multiple other opportunities in the sense of the results. >> right. the results that we were able to drive. and so we feel confident that we were able to show those results through our actions.

filed involuntary manslaughter charges against the 3 officers and october. this year a judge dropped the charges against 2 of the officers last year. family reached an 11 million dollar settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit. it's small plane made an emergency landing friday at the former alameda naval air station. the fire department was called just before 10 30. they say the plane was headed towards palo alto airport when it started having engine trouble. there were 2 people on board that plane. neither were hurt. the faa is investigating. and the party is over for party city store announcing that they are going out of business offers. lezla gooden went to daly city to get more details. >> the party is officially over for party city after 40 years, that large chain is closing on thursday. employees at the party city located in daly city. we're told the news and there's store will close their doors at the end, february 2025. >> if you are closing.

truly experiencing this right now. what are some ways that people can navigate those difficult you mentioned that when it comes to the finances may be setting some expectations with family members with what you can or cannot purchase for them. this holiday season. but in terms of also %ay be meeting all those new family members as well and planning that perfect family get together. any guidance there. stay away from the perfect. that's you get caught in the unrealistic expectations. so, you know, when you're are feeling a little bit anxious, i say slowdown. and take some time to just be still because sometimes the stress will get us all. you know, some people have kind of contacts. other people feel the shaking. they won't sleep. all of that. so realistic expectations. but also listen to your body and take time for breaks. >> can i say focus on the love and not the stuff. so think about how can you share love, for example, one of one gift

and for the kids focus on the kids buying gifts for adults. i mean, you know, do we really need more staff? does anybody in their life for adults need more staff? and if you have all that stuff again, consider donating to people whether it's food, whether it is the extra step, you have around your house like doubt, donate that were by kids for kids who can't get gifts from their parents because giving also is really good for our mental health. makes us feel good. it shares the love of the season. so that's one way 2 decrease. the anxiety spread love while also limiting how much stuff we give each other. also stay light on the drinking. but as the anxiety, a lot of sometimes ugliness that happens in the conversations between family members happens because somebody drank a little too much of the state its humble. yeah, but that is

definitely something to think about it. also impacts are seen negatively and no wants to feel over during the holidays. so slow down, have realistic expectations. mind your budget, light on the drinking focus on the love and not the stuff. yeah. focus on the love and not the stuff. now, doctor, if someone is grappling with the loneliness. >> at this time of year, this is also pretty common. what's your advice? when it comes women as i can, i would go back to volunteering, donating, find yourself in a place where you feel needed where you feel you're contributing. >> to someone because that is one way to get rid of moment so reach out. so many people don't reach out because they think other people will think they're being a bother. and so we have all these lonely people who don't want to connect because they feel that reaching out. we'll show that they're most of us have

someone in our lives who care about and now is the time to say hi, how are you doing? you don't have to say hi, i'm lonely. you can say hi. how are you doing? you consent at christmas cards. but personalize ones. so we know that writing. care notes like writing, love, you know, sharing lot when you say, hey, i haven't heard from in a long time. i really miss you. having died as a way to reach out and connect is a way to get rid of your own doughnuts, but it can be. people feel that they're the only one experiencing it. but a lot of people feel that especially now and sometimes it's important to focus on the families that we create and not necessary to families that are blind or a biology. you know, probably is not just the people that people are born related to, whether it's people at work were, you know that the person at your local coffee shop use a highs every day they're playing that we

attempt to take the suspect into custody was unsuccessful. the officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting according to san francisco police. the suspect is believed to be a security guard at this dr store. >> and employee of the store says they are not commenting on the incident. investigators combed the scene friday morning, but as of p g's, assistant chief says the investigation began thursday evening. >> in the area of kearney and post streets when officers responded to a report of a speeding vehicle that had gone on to a sidewalk and hit 2 pedestrians and a bicyclist near union square suspect still on the sidewalk, pursued the victim and hit the back of the bicycle. >> the victim of that collision which we are labeling aggravated assault. jumped off and took off running and we believe ran up to 2.33. cider at this point, we haven't found that victim and we definitely want victim to come forward. the suspect then tried to take the electric bike and put it in his vehicle. he was unsuccessful in doing so.

>> it did take some of the victim's property, put it in his vehicle and then fled the scene. the 2 pedestrians, a woman and girl, were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. >> hours later, police identify the suspect vehicle at the dior store after police shooting. he was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. police recovered a firearm at the scene. >> and investigators did not release details on what prompted the shooting. but as plans to hold a town hall within 10 days about this case, which is department policy following a shooting by an officer reporting here in san francisco, gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> in san jose mayor matt mahan is weighing in on proposition. 36, the measure which increases penalties for fentanyl dealers and theft crimes and went into effect this week. when i spoke with him on friday, he called it a step in the right direction and his city is ready to make those changes, but says that the city still needs more support from the county and state. >> but we need more secure

treatment centers. inpatient treatment options. and only our counties and the state of california can do that because it's a health and human service that they have the jurisdiction for so that when someone is a repeat offender, they've been arrested for the 3rd 4th 5004th time using hard drugs in public spaces. they actually have a place to go where they can detox. get treatment and get their get on a better path. >> and prop 36 may have only gone into effect a few days ago. but police say it's already making an impact. police say yesterday they found a shoplifter putting stolen items from target into his suv. police say he had a history of theft and they add that thanks to prop 36. the suspect will now be charged with a felony and booked into jail before the law went into effect. the man we have only received a citation now to a story only going to see here on kron 4 this past tuesday marked mayor shane towns last days in office. >> on election day, oakland voted her out of the job in the first successful recall of

in to actually remove me from office. when you get into these leadership position, it is so critical that you represent your values because the general public or not is is not going receive and half in may never have all the full 100% information for whether it's legal purposes or what have you. but you have the information. it is up to us leader what you do with that information. do you go a long just to get along? where do you go and you lead through your values because you know what is right for the city. why didn't you issue a rebuttal statement in the voter guide when it came to the recall? you know, i mean, obviously, this is first time ever for a recall of the mayor. you know, and running. the city is always my top priority. and so that's what i was hyper focus on making sure that are homicide levels were, you know, decreasing making sure that a crime levels was decreasing. we have economic workforce development, you know, that's coming in. we have the coliseum cell. we had all these different things

dogs. he's very gentle. he'd be great with the family or senior. >> he's how how strange. he's great icon. just like goodness. yeah. look at that. yeah. get that. yeah. and he's just waiting for somebody out there who's watching right now. it's right home. and we do have about 80 dogs in our program right now. so we've got a lot to choose from. wow. absolutely. and where's that? what's the best way for people to learn more information about duncan and other animals that are currently and well, the first way the easiest ways from your desktop or from your laptop, your but at my or which will have, you know, photos of the adoptable dogs and little bios of all of them. >> but we are open to the public and we love having visitors come by and we're actually going to even be open on christmas day. so if you're feeling lonely or you, you need a little extra cuddles.

yeah. yeah. so come in and hang out with the dogs. so don't we we won't make you take a dog home, but i am not surprised when people do. yeah. i mean, just look at the volunteer given the that bulldog so much. yeah, so wonderful to see the senior dogs and getting such well-deserved care. but of course, they are looking for that it is. it's called home for the holidays. we bring in 100 extra dogs this time of year while extra extra on top of what we always bring him because it is a very hard time of year on the animal shelters. so we really try to leave some of that by bringing, you know, bring their senior dogs up bill. and why would you say it's a harder time for a lot of animal shelters during the holidays? >> people believe it or not, drop off their dogs animal shelters during the holidays. >> they can't find some way to take care of them. they have friends, family coming to town and and they dry, no judgment.
