storm tracker 4, this is what we've had. the deeper moisture has departed and look at that upstream. the skies will start to open for us right in time for some of those daylight hours for us. quick check on your temperatures. fairly mild with a lot of 50's on the board here. we can see lower 50's off to tri valley. we've got some 40's mean well up north. but how does that square with where we were 24 hours ago were ahead just about all locations, san francisco trailing a degree in hayward. but for the most part, we're ahead in most locations by several degrees. so the winds kind of variable single digits right now. a breeze with that. but we do see some stormy action by the time we get to around tuesday. that will be upstream of the few more hits before we get there hour by hour forecast, computer put this in here am showers as trying to really tell us in the human the rain. that's the morning part because by this afternoon we'll see some sunshine. more on your forecast coming up in a bit. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. we're taking a live look now at sfo this morning. looking pretty, drew had damp, damp

out there, triple-a forecasting nearly 8 million people to travel by air this holiday season. sfo officials say they're expecting today to be the busiest travel day with an estimated 160,000 people expected to fly this weekesd. it's going to get pretty busy out there right now. flight aware is reporting a number of delays. 67 delays to be specific and 4 cancellations out sfo. we're also tracking flights in the east and south bays, flightaware reporting. let's see if we can pull those numbers up here. looks like we don't have those quite yet, but we will bring those to you in terms of the numbers from oakland international and san jose international. again, we will update you on those numbers later in the hour. >> we will not. >> let these closures impact that our first our commitment to our citizens any way. but there will be delays and districts that the firehouse is closed. >> the oakland city council voted to cut both police and fire services to help close a 129 million dollar budget

deficit to fire station shutdown at the start of next year. and an additional 4 stations are slated to close by early february. if the city receives its next 10 million dollar payment for the sale of its half of the coliseum, the first 7 million dollars will go towards the fire department. >> if you have a fire station that's closed and getting to somebody who is calling for 9-1-1 before a medical reason. it could take extra minutes of those extra minutes. could be the difference between life and death. and that's why that for 7 million has to go to the fire department to protect fire safety, better cosmetic and medical response. >> the budget cuts mean layoffs for nearly 100 city workers as early as february cutting 32 million dollars to the police department by canceling 2 police academies of reducing overtime. it's also part of the plans here. kron 4 reached out to police chief floyd mitchell to find out how he plans to keep the city safe with less funding and staff and will update you as soon as we get a response. the city of oakland's budget problems are now affecting its

animal services. workers at the oakland animal shelters say that starting in october t positions had to be frozen. the problem affecting jobs at the front counter and animal intake staffing as well. because of the under staffing. the shelter will not be open. tuesdays and wednesdays starting january 6. you can find details of the new hours right there on your screen or on the shelter's website. baseball hall of famer and a's legend ricky henderson has died at the age of 65 tmz. reported he'd been hospitalized with pneumonia before he died in oakland friday. call for a sports reporter. ben ross takes a look back at his legacy. >> rickey henderson was the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. many consider him the greatest baseball player ever. the only thing that could match is played was his swagger 1406 stolen bases, 2,295 runs 81 lead off home runs major league records.

henderson was born in chicago but moved to oakland a young age. it spent his formative years in the town growing up late with the oakland coliseum lead off the multi-sport standout in high school. he graduated from oakland attack and was selected by his hometown oakland athletics. the 4th round of the 1976. mlb draft. >> henderson would make his major league debut with the a's in 1979 the next season. he stole 100 bases and was an all-star for the first of 10 times. henderson played with 9 different teams over his legendary 25 year career high speed. he made his mark. you to the 1989 world series. >> and winning the 1990 american league mvp award in 1991, ricky stole his 900 39th career base. >> breaking lou, brock's long-held record crop. >> what the of rate base to but today am the greatest of

all time. thank you. >> by the end of his career, rickey had amassed 1406 stolen bases, 3,055 hits and 297 home runs. he was inducted into the baseball hall of fame 2009. his first year eligibility. in recent years, ricky remained around the athletics organization. he was frequently seen at the oakland coliseum. >> helping coach younger players. he was always generous with his time signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. >> his passing leaves and on the syllable void in oakland and throughout all of baseball ricky henderson was 65 years-old. second never hesitate. and this morning fans and colleagues remembering the baseball store star cross was lindsey ford reports. >> he had to he didn't play the game as a robot. >> it was a shock. it was heartbreaking. it was definitely out of nowhere

crushed. you know, i mean, especially in this year 2024. >> and, you know, we lose number. 24 oakland a's baseball legend ricky henderson. number 24 past saturday, just 5 days away from his 66th birthday. i just saw him says brian johansen, co-owner of baseball's the last dive bar, a group that represents of the oakland coliseum and baseball and got his first. now it wider and his charisma >> he's or like he was oakland like oakland last. but they lost their soul when they lost rick. >> johansen attended reggie jackson softball classic last month at the coliseum and recalls henderson in good spirits. >> you know, kuz right yet all of his friends at that game like nobody got paid for that. you know, this is something that they did for the community, basically a farewell. jorge leon was also at the classic. he's the president of the oakland. 68 ce if group that supports the oakland a's. i saw him in the

clubhouse with jose conseco. >> and everyone that was there and kind of just laughing looked healthy. devastation is an understatement. his fans say he was taken too soon. when i was 6 years old, i saw him at the grand lake theater in oakland and he bought tickets to everyone in the lobby to watch the movie at that time. remember what was. i forgot, but i got his autograph that day. sports enthusiasts reporters and those who worked with henderson say he was an engine of excitement on and off the field make it goes up its second. he's going to have. again, he was icon. like san francisco sports journalist steve kerr owner who has interviewed henderson in group settings. some people. >> perceived ricky's brashness, maybe as a little bit over the top. but i don't think it was. i think he was just being who he was and the old line about it. braggin. if you can do it. he could do it.

>> former business operations exact for the oakland a's. lish remembers how proud henderson was being a dad. he recalls a memory when henderson passed out bottles of champagne to higher-ups when one of his daughters were born here and autograph. each of the champagne bottles. i had never experienced anything like that. and i wish i had saved that bottle of champagne. don't wish says anderson knew had a lead off every game and give a you have a he had this inner smile. you could just feel the enthusiasm. and as i said, the joy that he had. >> in playing the game and you don't see that as much these days. >> in oakland, lindsey ford kron, 4 news. >> still ahead, he's san francisco's next mayor. i sat down one on one with daniel lurie on his big plans for his first day in office.

winds, the heavy rains at all of that before that moves on out. so what we're looking at is tomorrow, the patchy showers continue mostly cloudy. then we get into the rest of the week. we've got a dry patch for christmas and then afterwards, unsettled into the week and weekend. get more into this longer range forecast for you coming up in a bit, stephen. all right, dave, thank you. >> by this time next month, san francisco will have a new mayor this past election season. the city's approach to public safety, homelessness and it's struggling. downtown area were heavily scrutinized. i sat down one-on-one with mayor-elect daniel lurie about his plans to turn the city around. here's that conversation. well, first of all, congratulations on your victory. this is a pretty big one. how has the moment fully sunk in for you yet? i think there are moments where i do catch myself, but i have to tell you, we are already getting to work. >> getting results for the people of san francisco. our administration is can be rooted in 3 things. accountability, service and change. the city needs to be shaken up. >> it happened. hope is alive

and well in san francisco. >> very good. now. i when i first interviewed you back in january, we talked a bit about how you largely fell underestimated through very much of your life. but here you are. the newly elected mayor. you're going to be inducted into office in january. looking back on the campaign. how does it feel to get to this moment? >> well, listen, we ran a campaign. it was it was a tough campaign against some really it great opponents and people that have committed their lives to san francisco. so i'm honored and this is going to be a privilege. but i am already thinking about how we can change this city and make sure we get results. as i said before, listen, there are some great people inside city hall. i've been meeting with department heads. i've been meeting with people that have been in there quite a while. and i know one of the lead. and so i'm very hopeful. i'm very optimistic. and change is coming to san francisco and change. fact, it seems like

it's already happening under your watch tonight not officially in office yet. >> but it's been widely reported today. you had a hand in helping to stop the marriott hotel workers strike. tell us a bit about that. well, i am so grateful to both sides coming together after, you know, what was one of the longest hotel strikes in our city's history. 89 days. >> they came to the table. they worked on this for 5 days. non-stop negotiations both unite to the union here locally and the hotel owners. i'm really, really pleased with the outcome. and now we can focus on 2025 and getting jp morgan healthcare conference the nba all-star game coming here our hotel workers are back to work. i believe tomorrow and they can be home for the holidays instead of out on the picket lines. and that's that's a great outcome. yeah, some good news there. >> looking into the new year, what is the first thing that voters can expect you to do as soon as you enter office?

>> number one, focus on public safety. i walked 6 street with sfpd last weekend. i'm going to continue to walk the streets and figure out how do we get control again of our streets. we cannot have the open air drug markets and drug dealing and drug use happening in our streets. we have to get people off the street and then to mental health and drug treatment, pets. we're gonna work that. and then we need to streamline the bureaucracy. we have to make sure the taxpayers dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently. and so those will be my top priorities. starting on january. >> you also mentioned that you declare a fentanyl state of emergency on day one. is that still the case? we are going you know, there's a lot of people saying why we can't do something well, we are going to find a way to make sure that we get a handle on the drug crisis on our streets. that's what the voters voted me in with the mandate that they did because they want to see change in our streets. they want to see public safety and i'm committed to it. now,

let's talk a bit about your transition team as well of very interesting cast of characters. you've got the ceo of openai sand altman. you've also got former sfpd commander paul yet, but as well. >> us about are the conversations that you guys are having every week and what's the game plan? what we want to build administration rooted in accountability and diversity of our great city. we have great candidates for many different and team has been helping me think through who those candidates are. i'm sitting down with current department heads and we're having conversations like i said, we would and there's some great candidates coming through our portal and sundown with one-on-one and i have to give a shout out to our co-chairs. they have been incredible. paul. yep. sam altman, mayor michael tubbs, nancy tung and jose can yanis among others. >> very good. >> san francisco obviously has a bit of an image problem. people often ask if it's safe

to visit with the holiday season in full swing, people want to come out and do some shopping. is there a message of reassurance you can provide for folks who want venture out to san francisco, but they're not sure if it's safe. it as apd is doing an incredible job downtown. i was just down. >> in union square yesterday talking to business owners and small business owners about how we are going to tackle the public safety crisis and behavioral health crisis. >> and we're already seeing the fruits of that labor. so there are green shoots. i'm telling you when we are at our best, this is the greatest city in the world. we have to claim that narrative again, but we have to do the work. and so i don't i don't want to say, you know, that we don't have work to do, but i was at union square yesterday. i was there on black friday after thanksgiving and it was packed that skating rink. you can't get a slot because it's full. so people are already coming downtown. and i invite you

come join over the holidays. but now one again going back to our conversation back in january when we first sat down with you. >> you mentioned that if you one, the mayor seat. that would be it for you. you serve your time in office. you're not a career politician. you just want to serve the city of san francisco and that's it. is that still the case? i haven't even taken office so, you know, listen, i have said it loudly and proudly that i am a lifelong san francisco. >> san francisco, i of city is the greatest city in the world. i have no interest in going to sacramento or d c we got work to do. we've got to get results for the people of san francisco. i'm going to do that. and i hope for 8 years and i hope everybody knows let tell you may be straight with you never you moore tirelessly that me and bring that to my administration and everyone coming in to serve. we'll have to have that same work ethic because we've got work to do. but we're going get it done. >> all right. and on the topic

>> police are looking for 2 people connected to a stabbing in san francisco's mission district friday night. officers found a man suffering from knife wounds. the victim said he'd been robbed and assaulted by 2 people around 07:00pm friday. no arrests made yet. police are hoping for leads from the public. what police are investigating a possible drive-by shooting. they say it happened thursday night on westwood drive and welborn avenue. they believe someone fired at a house on welborn avenue. several bullets hitting the building. investigators this morning working to identify victims, witnesses and suspects. anyone with information should get in touch with gilroy pd. in danville, a man is in jail for allegedly trying to steal what's known as a bait bike police equipped with a gps tracker to catch bike thieves. they say the city has been hit with a wave of bike thefts. meantime, officers suggest bike owners use to locks want

the fact the lighting situation now stormtracker doesn't really show anything right now, but we have patches of drizzle still with us and some light rain appearing on through. however, a line you ping off towards the west will be our future here later on this morning and early afternoon. that is a clear patch. sun come out and we'll take a little bit of a breather from this rain. now, in the meantime, our temperatures were mostly in the 50's. don't expect a lot of movement for highs today. it's a given even with some sun going on, even some lower or upper 40's can see up north there, a touch. and our hour by hour forecast, we go into mostly cloudy. looks like into the later morning hours and washi get some bits mostly sunny skies for a time. however, that will be temporary. and there's more doses of heavy rain still to come, although they'll be brief. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> let's take a look now at sfo this morning who looking quite gray out there. aaa is expecting nearly 8 million people to travel by air this holiday season, as says they're expecting their busiest travel days to be today with about 160,000

people flying just this weekend. right now flood aware is reporting 58 delays and 3 cancellations at sfo. so make sure that you get there early if you can. we're also tracking flights in the east and south bays. flightaware reporting 14 delays, no cancellations at open air and a san jose international seeing 11 delays and 2 cancellations. we'll keep you updated on those numbers throughout the day. san jose police say a suspected drunk driver hit 2 of their park patrol cars friday night. and these are images from the scene. the officers involved. they suffered minor injuries. and deputies identified a body found in a waterway in gilroy last week. they say it was 21 year-old gabriel de lara. he was reported missing earlier this month and last seen december first driving on monterey road and rocker avenue. the cause of death is still unknown. stretching hire workers in san francisco unanimously approved a new agreement with the hotel chain. the workers voting on

the deal just yesterday and announcing the results just before 07:00pm. it's the same deal reached with marriott hotels on thursday and includes wage increases. the new contract covers roughly 600 hyatt workers in san francisco. meantime, 650 unionize members that hotel at hilton hotels rather remain on strike. new details this morning on the person police say trespass at separate set south san francisco high school friday afternoon. the incident temporarily shutting down part of campus. police say they've been conducting a narcotics investigation near by and someone they had been talking to. randolph scaled a fence, entered a classroom crisis. negotiators spoke to the fest pastor for 4 hours to de-escalate the situation. the person voluntarily left the classroom eventually no details released yet on a possible motive or charges. but we do know that person was taken into custody. and later taken to a medical facility for treatment. now to one of

our top stories this morning. officer bodycam footage shows san francisco police -ppearing to tackle a woman to the ground and arresting her for sara stinson connected with the woman captured on video and brings us her side of the story. >> it's been nearly 5 months since amelia jones says she was tackled and arrested by san francisco police. while the bruises have healed, she says she's still on edge around officers. we do want to warn you some of the video you see may be disturbing. it's really shocking. and obviously was not something that i was expecting on that morning. what was supposed to be another workday changed in the blink of an eye for amelia jones? >> on july, 24th jones as she was walking her bike on sacramento street in san francisco when she came upon. police in riot gear lined up on a war in gaza. protests. >> jones says she saw officers tackle another

>> for police officers jumped on top of her and had her pinned down on the ground. jones says she started yelling for others to help her as officers started to corner. >> spring street. >> panic and confusion and really just desperation to get out of that situation was the main thing going through my head. officers can be seen tackling jones to the ground to arrest while in custody. jones as they started to ridicule her, they were just insinuating that i was doing it for attention. >> which and absurd thing to say. jones spent 36 hours in jail and was charged with resisting or obstructing an executive officer. >> battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest. a judge eventually dropped all of the charges after reviewing this body cam footage watched it

together with my partner. >> and you know, he was crying watching it and kind of like both of us are like shaking was validating to see the footage and kind of be like, ok, i didn't do anything. and i did not deserve that. and the public defenders, integrity unit agreed so much. so they helped jones filed a complaint against the department for excessive force filed on december 18th. so that won't happen again, so that we address the behavior. i would like to see disciplinary action against the department of police accountability will be reviewing this complaint and then sending recommendations to the police chief that should take anywhere between 9 months up to a year. we reached out to sfpd and they said they cannot comment on any pending complaint. meanwhile, jones says she's considering a civil lawsuit for all of the emotional damages that she endured. >> i'm sara stinson reporting back to you. and now to a

story you'll only see here on kron 4 tuesday. mark shane tells last day in office. >> on election day open voted her out of the job in the first successful recall of its kind in city history. i sat down with tell for an interview covering the challenges you faced whether she's had any regrets during her 2 years in office. here's part of that discussion. >> if you've got the target of the fbi raid, who who your guess is as good as mine. i really don't know. you know, they haven't told us anything. and so again, these questions are really great questions for the fbi. given everything that's happened. is there anything that you would change without compromising your values? i think that with the fire chief leronne armstrong, i think that the communication on our part could have been stronger on that part. i think that there was a perception that the reason why i let him go was around of report, you know, an investigative report that came out the chief or to the pleasure of the mayor and we're under the federal oversight, right? and we have

been for now going on over 20 years. and so, you know, to have a chief that goes around saying that, you know, the federal monitor is corrupt or or what? what have you that isn't conducive to being able to actually move the city forward. so no regrets about the firing, even though it did trigger of this recall campaign against you, correct? i don't regret find the for on armstrong. i do believe that, you know, that is the right decision. that is a decision that ultimately has brought down crime brought down homicides, the popular decision. would have been to keep them on. i also know that i also again have information that made me feel as if like the city of oakland, the city of oakland deserves to be number one in different reason. the city of oakland then find lebron is not a regret of mine. thank speak to the situation around the oakland a's as absolutely. you know, no, i don't regret what

happened with the oakland a's at all. i mean, at the end of the day, you know. we put out our best effort to try to keep the oakland a's in the city of oakland. obviously, the negotiations were far along the way before i got into office, you know, and so at the tail end of it, you know, there was a moment at the very beginning where we can salvage, you know, the relationship where we can move forward and we worked really hard to represent the values of the city of oakland and to keep the openai's here. and at the end of the day, you know, our values in a line they wanted to build a stadium on the backs of oakland taxpayers. and so at the end of the day, we also know that the a's were looking to leave the city of oakland for over a decade. and so the seriousness on the city's part, it was all there and it was their decision. their decision to abandon the city of oakland. and you can watch my full extended interview with mayor shane. tell on our website. >> right now, kron 4 dot com.

next year. california increases the amount of money it takes out of workers paychecks. the move is aimed at funding the state's disability insurance program. >> our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has a closer look at what this means for you. >> if you're a worker in california, get ready for the state to take a little bit more your paycheck in 2025. all to help fund the state's disability insurance program. also known as the sti. as of today, the state already takes 1.1% of your earnings from your paycheck to help fund the sgi program. but come 2025. the state will increase that rate to 1.2%. it comes after the director of the california employment development department edd nancy farias earlier this year approved the increase. the edd stresses by law furious is allowed to make such an increase each year as long as that increase is relatively small and is calculated based on a very specific, complicated formula. as for the sgi program itself,

the edd wrote this about it. quote, this is an insurance plan for more than 18 million, california workers not attacks. the 1.2% paycheck withholding. make sure the insurance plan is funded and ready to help workers after an illness or injury pregnancy, childbirth or when they need paid family leave to care for an ill family member bond with a new child help during a family member's military deployment abroad and more. they're taking the money straight out of your paycheck. we think people should be aware of david klein of the california tax payers association or cal tech's says the ecb's decision was made without transparency. >> klein says he is not opposed to the sdi program as a whole but believes the latest decision to increase paycheck withholdings was made without letting the public know. the edd says it did post the new increased on this part of its website. but klein says the agency did not put out any other notice or press release and should have done so. some people will look at the stats and say, well, it's only a $50 a year, $100 a that's not that

a lot, dave. >> and the consumer financial protection bureau is suing money, lending now, along with the bank of america, jp morgan chase and wells fargo. >> the agency says customers lost more than 870 million dollars over 7 years because of fraudulent zelle use the suit and the banks rushed the service to market too quickly and proper safeguards were not put into place. zell is arguing the claims are driven by political factors. a consumer watchdog group says that despite intense efforts scam phone calls dropped just 17% since 2021. that's what a federal law took effect requiring companies to install technology to fight those scams. the group argues the fcc isn't doing enough to enforce the law and phone companies aren't implementing it. >> less than half of actually implemented the technology that they're supposed to be using by law to fight robocalls and to keep them from bringing on my phone and your phone and everybody else's fault.

lives. we have one of our lowest numbers of encampments that we had even since before the pandemic. people wanted to see things right away. and i understand and respect that because i felt the same way. but i'm so glad that people are starting to see the difference. while the most recent federal count shows fewer people are sleeping outside. that same count shows an increase in the number of homeless people without permanent housing. >> while the city continues to fall well, short of state mandated housing goals breed says recent changes will help her accomplish her goal of creating more places to live in san francisco. the stuff we've done here on the local level >> will have impacts after leave office for housing theirs. nothing that could be done to stop these units from being built within the past. the obstruction. >> was always at the local level. obviously there's a new mayor. there are several new members of the board of supervisors as well that are going to be coming. and what is your advice for those

fire services to help close 129 million dollar budget deficit to fire stations shut down at the start of next year and an additional 4 stations are slated to close by early february. if the city receives its next 10 million dollar payment for the sale of its half of the coliseum, the first 7 million dollars will go towards the fire department. >> if you have a fire station that's closed and getting to somebody who is calling for 9-1-1, before a medical reason. it could take extra minutes of those extra minutes. could be the difference between life and death. and that's why that for 7 million has to go to the fire department to protect fire safety of medical snake and medical response. >> the budget cuts mean layoffs for nearly 100 city workers as early as february and cutting 32 million dollars to the police department by canceling 2 police academies and reducing overtime kron. 4 reached out to police chief floyd mitchell to find out how he plans to keep the city safe with less funding and staff. we'll update you as soon as we get a response. the city of

oakland's budget problems are now affecting its animal services. workers at the oakland animal shelters say that starting in october, a key positions had to be frozen. the problem affecting jobs at the front counter and the animal intake staff as well because of the under staffing. the shelter will not be open. tuesdays and wednesdays starting january 6. you can find details of the new hours on the shelter's website. baseball hall of famer and a's legend ricky henderson has died at the age of 65 kron. 4 sports reporter ben ross takes a look back at henderson's legacy. >> rickey henderson was the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. many consider him the greatest baseball player ever. the only thing that could match is played was his swagger. 1406 stolen bases, 2,295 runs 81 lead off home runs major league records. henderson was born in chicago but moved to oakland a young age. it spent his formative years in the town growing up

baseball legend ricky henderson. number 24 past saturday, just 5 days away from his 66th birthday. i just saw him says brian johansen, co-owner of baseball's the last dive bar, a group that represents of the oakland coliseum and baseball and got his personality and anger and his charisma >> he's or like he was oakland like oakland. lot. but they lost their soul when they lost rick. >> johansen attended reggie jackson softball classic last month at the coliseum and recalls henderson in good spirits. >> you know, cause right yet all of his friends at that game like nobody got paid for that. you know, this is something that they did for the community. basically a farewell. jorge leon was also at the classic. he's the president of the oakland. 68 ce if group that supports the oakland a's. i saw him in the clubhouse with jose conseco. >> and everyone that was there and kind of just laughing looked healthy. devastation is an understatement. his fans

say he was taken too soon. when i was 6 years old, i saw him at the grand lake theater in oakland and he bought tickets to everyone in the lobby to watch the movie at that time. i don't. number what was? i forgot, but i got his autograph that day. sports enthusiasts reporters and those who worked with henderson say he was an engine of excitement on and off the field making goes up its second. he's going to have. again. he was like a like san francisco sports journalist steve kerr owner who has interviewed henderson in group settings. some people. >> perceived ricky's brashness, maybe as a little bit over the top. but i don't think it was. i think he was just being who he was and the old line about it. braggin. if you can do it. he could do it. >> former business operations exact for the oakland a's and the d-list remembers how proud henderson was being a dad. he

education, employment, life skills, wellness and behavioral health supports. wow. and can you walk us through just what the scale of the issue is here in the bay area? how many unhoused use are there out there? in san francisco. we know that on any given night. we have about 1600 young people who might be experiencing homelessness. larkin street works with about 2000 young people every year in in oakland and alameda county. the number of young people is about 900 that might be experiencing homelessness on any given night. and we just opened a couple of programs there. well, how do so many youth end up in becoming an house on the streets? you know, there are many reasons why young people are experiencing homelessness. often it can be family rejection family conflict or abuse or neglect when they were teenagers or younger can be economic issues. young people lose a job. they don't have the ability to get back into an apartment. young people might be have been kicked out of their homes

because they identify as, bisexual or transgendered. so we what we know is that trauma has often happened that has caused young people to experiencing to experience homelessness. and then it's very challenging and difficult and traumatic to p outside. and how does your service how is how do you find folks who are the situation and what is sort of what is the pipeline, if you will, that that really was a process that they go through once they get connected? sure. young people find us through word of mouth, sometimes right to other young people will tell their friends about larkin street. they might find out about us from other community-based resources. they might just come into our drop-in center on golden gate and what young people going. our first our order of business is to establish trust. so young people come in to get showers or food to talk to somebody about how to get into housing or how to get a job. and then

as they come inside our job is to get them into shelter and into housing and then they can stay in our housing for up to 2 years, sometimes longer. and we know thatswhen young people exit our housing programs, 9 out of 10 accident, a safe and stable housing up oheir having made significant progress on education employment, wellness and life skills. that's just incredible. thank you for sharing tell us a bit about this winter fest. yeah, that you have planned. this is something the public and also engage in as well to help, correct? correct. so winterfest is our holiday celebration on december 25th from 9 to 2 at our engagement center at one 34 golden gate. and we have some pictures from previous years. so that okay? so it's about creating celebration holiday opportunities for young people so that they can feel cared about. so they get food and gifts live music and games and activities. and so we have volunteers and staff that help

people connected to a stabbing in san francisco's mission district friday night. officers found a man suffering from knife wounds. the victim said he'd been robbed and assaulted by 2 people around 07:00pm friday. no arrests may get hoping for leads from the public. a durham police are investigating a possible drive-by shooting. they say it happened thursday night.

the officers involved suffered only minor injuries. and deputies identified a body found in a waterway in gilroy last week. they say it was 21 year-old gabriel de lara. he was reported missing earlier this month and last seen december first, while driving on monterey road and rucker avenue. his cause of death is still unknown. striking hyatt workers in san francisco unanimously approved a new agreement with the hotel chain. the workers voted on the deal yesterday and announced the results just before 07:00pm. it's the same deal reached with marriott hotels on thursday and includes wage increases. the new contract covers roughly 600 hyatt workers in san francisco. meantime, 650 unionize members at hilton hotels remain on strike. new details this morning on the person. police say trespassed south san francisco high school friday afternoon. that incident temporarily shut down part of campus. police say they've been conducting a narcotics investigation near by and someone they've been talking to randolph scaled the fence and entered a classroom

crisis. negotiators spoke to the trespasser for 4 hours to de-escalate that situation. the person voluntarily left the classroom eventually no details released yet on a possible motive or charges. but we do know the person was taken into custody and later taken to a medical facility. now to one of our top stories this morning, officer body-cam footage showing san francisco police appearing to tackle a woman to the ground and arresting her for stinson connected with that woman captured on video and brings us her side of the story. >> it's been nearly 5 months since amelia jones says she was tackled and arrested by san francisco police. while the bruises have healed, she says she's still on edge around officers. we do want to warn you some of the video you see may be disturbing. it's really shocking and obviously was not something that i was

expecting on that morning. what was supposed to be another workday changed in the blink of an eye for amelia jones? on july, 24th jones as she was walking her bike on sacramento street in san francisco when she came upon. police in riot gear lined up on a war in gaza. protests. >> jones says she saw officers tackle another >> for police officers jumped on top of her and had her pinned down on the ground. jones says she started yelling for others to help her as officers started to corner. >> spring street. >> panic and confusion and really just desperation to get out of that situation was the main thing going through my head. officers can be seen tackling jones to the ground to arrest while in custody.

jones as they started to ridicule her, they were just insinuating that i was doing it for attention. >> which and absurd thing to say. jones spent 36 hours in jail and was charged with resisting or obstructing an executive officer. >> battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest. a judge eventually dropped all of the charges after reviewing this body cam footage watched it together with my partner. >> and you know, he was crying watching it and kind of like both of us are like shaking was validating to see the footage and kind of be like, ok, i didn't do anything. and i did not deserve that. and the public defenders, integrity unit agreed so much. so they helped jones filed a complaint against the department for excessive force filed on december 18th. so that won't happen again, so that we address the behavior. i would like to see disciplinary action against the department of police

accountability will be reviewing this complaint and then sending recommendations to the police chief that should take anywhere between 9 months up to a year. we reached out to sfpd and they said they cannot comment on any pending complaint. meanwhile, jones says she's considering a civil lawsuit for all of the emotional damages that she endured. >> i'm sara stinson reporting back to you. 2 people were found dead inside an oakland apartment friday night. police say it happened after an altercation with several people. >> police say they got calls last night around 11, 15 about an apartment shooting on fairmont avenue inside. they found 2 people who had been shot to death. police now investigating the incident as a double homicide. and now to a story you'll only see here on kron 4 on tuesday. that marchant house last day in office on election day. oakland voted her out of the job in the first successful recall of its kind in city history. i sat down with telephone interview covering the challenges she faced and whether she's had any regrets

during her 2 years in office. here's part of that discussion. >> if you've got the target of the fbi raid, who who your guess is as good as mine. i really don't know. you know, they haven't told us anything. and so again, these questions are really great questions for the fbi. given everything that's happened. is there anything that you would change without compromising your values? i think that with the fire chief leronne armstrong, i think that the communication on our part could have been stronger on that part. i think that there was a perception that the reason why i let him go was around of report, you know, investigative report that came out, the chief or to the pleasure of the mayor and we're under the federal oversight, right? and we have been for now going on over 20 years. and so, you know, to have a chief that goes around saying that, you know, the federal monitor is corrupt or or what? what have you that isn't conducive to being able to actually move the city

forward. so no regrets about the firing, even though it did trigger of this recall campaign against you, correct? i don't regret find the for on armstrong. i do believe that, you know, that is the right decision. that is a decision that ultimately has brought down crime brought down homicides. the popular decision. would have been to keep them on. i also know that i also again have information that made me feel as if like the city of oakland, the city of oakland deserves to be number one in different reason. the city of oakland then find the iran is not a regret of mine. thank speak to the situation around the oakland a's as absolutely. you know, no, i don't regret what happened with the oakland a's at all. i mean, at the end of the day, you know. we put out our best effort to try to keep the oakland a's in the city of oakland. obviously, the negotiations were far along the way before i got into

office, you know, and so at the tail end of it, you know, there was a moment at the very beginning where we can salvage, you know, the relationship where we can move forward and we worked really hard to represent the values of the city of oakland and to keep the openai's here. and at the end of the day, you know, our values in a line they wanted to build a stadium on the backs of oakland taxpayers. and so at the end of the day, we also know that the a's were looking to leave the city of oakland for over a decade. and so the seriousness on the city's part, it was all there and it was their decision. their decision to abandon the city of oakland. and you can watch my full extended interview with mayor sheng thao on our website right now. kron 4 dot com. >> next, your california increases. the money makes a rather the amount of money it takes out of workers. paychecks. the move is aimed at funding the state's disability insurance program. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has a closer look at what this means for you.

>> if you're a worker in california, get ready for the state to take a little bit more your paycheck in 2025. all to help fund the state disability insurance program. also known as the sti. as of today, the state already takes 1.1% of your earnings from your paycheck to help fund the sgi program. but come 2025. the state will increase that rate to 1.2%. it comes after the director of the california employment development department edd nancy farias earlier this year approved the increase. the edd stresses by law furious is allowed to make such an increase each year as long as that increase is relatively small and is calculated based on a very specific, complicated formula. as for the sgi program itself, the edd wrote this about its quote. this is an insurance plan for more than 18 million california workers, not a tax. the 1.2% paycheck withholding make sure the insurance plan is funded and ready to help workers after an illness or

injury pregnancy, childbirth or when they need paid family leave to care for an ill family member bond with a new child help during a family member's military deployment abroad and more. they're taking the money straight out of your paycheck. we think people should be aware of david klein of the california tax payers association or cal tech's says the edd decision was made without transparency. >> klein says he is not opposed to the sdi program as a whole but believes the latest decision to increase paycheck withholdings was made without letting the public know. the edd says it did post the new increase on this part of its website. but klein says the agency did not put out any other notice or press release and should have done so. some people will look at the stats and say, well, it's only a $50 a year, $100 a that's not that big a deal. but at the end of the year, when counting up all other tax, a local utility tax and sales tax increase, gas tax increases. >> property taxes go up a couple percent a year. all

these things add up and at the end the year, it's a big hit on your budget. so we think people need to be aware governor gavin newsom offering his thoughts earlier this week paid family leave. that was a multi-year stakeholder process and that dozens of hearings and public forums. that's a very transparent process. it wasn't transparent. it wasn't really, you know, made known to the public that this is going to happen. >> and now, you know, come january one, does paychecks are going to be a little bit tighter and trust me. they're already really tight. >> and to determine the exact dollar amounts of to be taken out of your paycheck. be sure to check in with your employer reporting at the state tom wallace kron. 4 news. >> time next month, san francisco will have a new mayor this past election season. the city's approach to public safety, homelessness and it's struggling. downtown area were heavily scrutinized voters ultimately elected nonprofit executive at levi strauss heir daniel lurie into office. on friday, lurie laid out his plans for his administration here at kron 4

saying it will be rooted in 3 things. >> number one, focus on public safety. i walked 6 street with sfpd last weekend. i'm going to continue to walk the streets and figure out how do we get control again of our streets. we cannot have the open air drug markets and drug dealing and drug use happening in our streets. we have to get people off the street and then to mental health and drug treatment betts. we're gonna work that. and then we need to streamline the bureaucracy. we have to make sure the taxpayers dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently. >> lori adding he plans to declare a fence in a state of emergency on day one. we are going to find a way to make sure that we get a handle on the drug crisis on our streets. that's what the voters voted me in with the mandate that they did because they want to see change on our streets. they want to see public safety and i'm committed to it. >> ulery is still working on building his cabinet. however, he has already named former

year. you know, the holidays can be a very stressful time. there was a recent study that was done by the circulation journal, which is one of the leading flagship research journal from the american heart association. >> which showed an interesting double spike that there is a market increase in cardiovascular deaths, both in during christmas as well as pthe new and the holiday seaso can be a very dangerous time. yes, and walk us through what that is. i imagine it might have something to do with the diet that kind of come yes, there's a lot theories actually about why this may be happen. some of that is in relation to the weather. it's obviously colder outside. this can lead to increased contraction of your cardiovascular vessels throughout your body. but really there's so much more stress that's happening during the holidays and people aren't following their normal routines. many people are forgoing symptoms and not noticing that. gosh, i might be having some chest pain or shortness of breath. yes, others may forget to take their medications. and honestly, you're just running around, not following typical

patterns, right? exactly. so you mentioned some of the symptoms, folks in the keeping an eye out for you mentioned the shortness of breath. can you expand on that a little bit? yes. so cardiovascular symptoms or heart attacks can present and really different ways, both for men as well as women. the classic symptoms is crushing left side of chest pain, but not everybody presents that way. sometimes that can just be or difficulty breathing or a having this and both your chest as well as your back. so know your symptoms. i know what's different. okay. and if someone were to be expects pyron seeing those symptoms or perhaps a family member is notice saying that a loved one is going through a difficult time with those symptoms you just described there. what should be the immediate first step? yes, sir. first of all, don't ignore the symptoms. if you have a loved one that isn't feeling quite right or you yourself don't be shy in saying something and seeking professional help from your medical team. the vast majority of actually out of hospital cardiac arrest or heart attacks that don't happen in the hospital. and so

actually, for every single member of your family or at least having one family member that knows how to do cpr is vitally important. it's not that hard to learn. actually. we have a lot of resources on the american heart association website where everybody can learn. i actually have 3 children in the age of 10. every single one of them has le.rned how to do cpr. such an important thing to be aware of. and we also had you on the show before our viewers have the rfa. so folks can look at that link to see your demo as so in terms of you mentioned different scenarios as well where people can be feeling a lot of stress or anxiety with those family. get-togethers are just checking off that shopping list yet all the is there any way that people can manage their stress or anxiety around this time of year? yeah. >> i'm so glad that you're bringing up. first of all, stresses normal. so give yourself a lot of grace and also check in with those family and friends that are around. you. the holidays can also kind of feel lonely time. there's a lot of gatherings and sometimes people are more or less comfortable around big

crowds. secondly, i think food and how what we put our bodies is actually critically important. food is medicine. and so particularly around the holidays, a lot of people are eating high. salt foods are very rich foods that are not typically in their diet. now, if you are cardiovascular patients are ready with heart failure. extra salt like that is going to lead to water. retention your body and often this can result in something called the holiday heart syndrome or people ending up in the hospital. same thing with alcohol. well, it is time to be merry, please monitor your alcohol intake, particularly for women and men, less than one to 2 glasses per day or event. it's critically important. we know even a small amount these days can actually be harmful for your heart and lead to higher rates of arrhythmias. okay, guys. so some very and good guidance. you're getting so much doctor. now as we start to, we have just about, you know, 90 seconds here, but curious to get your thoughts on this, too. in terms of new year's resolutions. looking ahead, are there any

resolutions we can make or commit our family members to make? >> in terms of keeping ourselves heart healthy. i always tell people heart, mind and soul, right? there's no magic elixir to a long and healthy life. >> other than continuing to maintain your elationships. per purposely pursue things that make you happy. also stay active. that's probably the best thing you can do for your health. you don't need to become a marathon runner. but the american heart association recommends 115 minutes per week. that's 20 to 30 minutes per day. so go out and take a walk with your family or friends you know, work in your garden. do the things that you really enjoy and finally have a lot of grace. this is a time of giving the holidays can be a really stressful time. but it's also the opportunity for us to really make a difference in the world and go on volunteer help. yeah, i've read some studies that have suggested that when people go out and volunteer, maybe at the local soup kitchen or even donating the local animal shelter, those in need. >> can actually improve the moon. yeah, he's stress and

voted to cut both police and fire services to help close 129 million dollar budget deficit to fire stations shut down at the start of next year. and and additional 4 stations are slated to close by early february. if the city gets its next 10 million dollar payment for the sale of its half of the coliseum. the first 7 million dollars will go towards the fire department. >> if you have a fire station that's closed and getting to somebody who is calling for 9-1-1. but for a medical reason, it could take extra minutes of those extra minutes. could be the difference between life and death. and that's why that for 7 million has to go to the fire department to protect fire safety, better cosmetic and medical response. >> the budget layoffs mean or other. the budget cuts mean layoffs for nearly 100 city workers as early as february and cutting 32 million dollars to the police department by to the police department by cancelin and reducing overtime reached out to police chief would mitchell to find out how he plans to keep the city safe with less funding and staff. we'll update you once we get a response. the city of

oakland's budget problems are now affecting its animal services. workers at the oakland animal shelters say that starting in october, a key positions had to be frozen. and the problem affecting jobs at the front counter and the animal intake staff because of the under staffing, the shelter will not be open. tuesdays and wednesdays starting january 6, you can find details of the new hours on the shelter's website. baseball hall of famer and a's legend ricky henderson has died at the age of 65 kron. 4 sports reporter ben ross takes a look back henderson's legacy. >> rickey henderson was the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. many consider him the greatest baseball player ever. the only thing that could match is played was his swagger 1406 stolen bases, 2,295 runs 81 lead off home runs all major league records. henderson was born in chicago but moved to oakland a young age. it spent his formative years in the town growing up

late with the oakland coliseum lead off the multi-sport standout in high school. he graduated from oakland attack and was selected by his hometown oakland athletics. the 4th round of the 1976. mlb draft. >> henderson would make his major league debut with the a's in 1979 the next season. he stole 100 bases and was an all-star for the first of 10 times. henderson played with 9 different teams over his legendary 25 year career i spent he made his mark. you to the 1989 world series. >> and winning the 1990 american league mvp award 1991, ricky stole his 900 39th career base breaking lou. brock's long-held record crop. >> what the of rate base to but today am the greatest of all time. thank you. >> by the end of his career,

baseball legend ricky henderson. number 24 past saturday, just 5 days away from his 66th birthday. i just saw him says brian johansen, co-owner of baseball's the last dive bar, a group that represents banned him of the oakland coliseum and baseball and got his first. now it wider and his charisma >> he's or like he was oakland like oakland last. but they lost their soul when they lost rick. >> johansen attended reggie jackson softball classic last month at the coliseum and recalls henderson in good spirits. >> you know, cause right yet all of his friends at that game like nobody got paid for that. you know, this is something that they did for the community. basically a farewell. jorge leon was also at the classic. >> he's the president of the oakland. 68 ce if group that supports the oakland a's. i saw him in the clubhouse with jose conseco and everyone that was there and kind of just laughing looked healthy.

devastation is an understatement. his fans say he was taken too soon. when i was 6 years old, i saw him at the grand lake theater in oakland and he bought tickets to everyone in the lobby to watch the movie at that time. i don't. number what was? i forgot, but i got his autograph that day. sports enthusiasts reporters and those who worked with henderson say he was an engine of excitement on and off the field making goes up its second. he's going to have. again. he was like a like san francisco sports journalist steve kerr owner who has interviewed henderson in group settings. some people. >> perceived ricky's brashness, maybe as a little bit over the top. but i don't think it was. i think he was just being who he was and the old line about it. braggin. if you can do it. he could do it. >> former business operations exact for the oakland a's and the d-list remembers how proud

there are moments where i do catch myself, but i have to tell you, we are already getting to work. >> getting results for the people of san francisco. our administration is came b, it rooted in 3 things. accountability, service and change. the city needs to be shaken up. >> and hope is alive and well in san francisco. >> very good now. when i first interviewed you back in january, we talked a bit about how you largely fell underestimated through very much of your life. but here you are. the newly elected mayor. you're going to be inducted into office in january. looking back on the campaign. how does it feel to get to this moment? >> well, listen, we ran a campaign. it was it was a tough campaign against some really it great opponents and people that have committed their lives to san francisco. so i'm honored and this is going to be a privilege. but i am already thinking about how we can change this city and make sure we get results. as i said before, listen, there are

some great people inside city hall. i've been meeting with department heads. i've been meeting with people that have been in there quite a while. and i know one of the lead. and so i'm very hopeful. i'm very optimistic. and change is coming to san francisco and change. fact, it seems like it's already happening under your watch. you're not not officially in office yet. >> but it's been widely reported today. you had a hand in helping to stop the marriott hotel worker strike. tell us a bit about that. well, i am so grateful to both sides coming together after you know, what was one of the longest hotel strikes in our city's history. 89 they came to the table. they worked on this for 5 days. non-sto negotiations. >> both unite to the union here locally and the hotel owners. i'm really, really pleased with the outcome. and now we can focus on 2025 getting jp morgan healthcare conference in the nba all-star game coming here our hotel

workers are back to work. i believe tomorrow and they can be home for the holidays instead of on the picket lines. and that's that's a great outcome. yeah, some good news there. >> looking into the new year, what is the first thing that voters can expect you to do as soon as you enter office? >> number one, focus on public safety. i walked 6 street with sfpd last weekend. i'm going to continue to walk the streets and figure out how do we get control again of our streets. we cannot have the open air drug markets and drug dealing and drug use happening in our streets. we have to get people off the street and into mental health and drug treatment, pets. we're gonna work that. and then we need to streamline the bureaucracy. we have to make sure the taxpayers dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently. and so those will be my top priorities. starting on january. >> you also mentioned that you declare a fentanyl state of emergen y on day one. is that still the case? we are going you know, there's a lot of people saying why we can't do something well, we are going

to find a way to make sure that we get a handle on the drug crisis on our streets. that's what the voters voted me in with the mandate that they did because they want to see change on our streets. they want to see public safety and i'm committed to it. now, let's talk a bit about your transition team as well of very interesting cast of characters. you've got the ceo of a >> openai sand altman. you've also got former sfpd commander, paul yet, but as well, us about are the conversations that you guys are having every week and what's the game plan? what we want to build administration rooted in accountability and diversity of our great city. we have great candidates for many different positions, said and team has been helping me think through who those candidates are. i'm sitting down with current department heads and we're having conversations like i said, we would and there's some great candidates coming through our portal and sundown with one-on-one and i have to give

danville, a man is in jail for allegedly trying to steal what's known as a bait bike police equipped with a gps tracker to catch bike thieves. they say the city has been hit with a wave of bike thefts. meantime, own tuesday officers suggest by owners used to lock-in to leave any unattended bikes well, it busy area. in consumer watchdog group says that despite is intense efforts, scam phone calls have dropped only 17% since 2021. that's when a federal law took effect, which requires companies to install technology to fight the scams. the group argues the fcc isn't doing enough to enforce the law and phone companies are not implementing it. >> less than half of actually implemented the technology that they're supposed to be using by law to fight robocalls and to keep them from bringing on my phone and your phone and everybody else this fall. >> the fcc is pushing back. it argues that it's made a lot of progress with the anti scam law. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, another deal reached in the san francisco hotel workers strike.

before 07:00pm. it's the same deal reached with marriott hotels on thursday and includes wage increases. the new contract covers roughly 600 hyatt workers in san francisco. meantime, 650 unionize members at hotel hilton hotels remain on strike. new details this morning on the person. police say trespass south san francisco high school on friday afternoon. the incident temporarily shutting down part of campus. police say they've been conducting a narcotics investigation near by and someone they've been talking to ran off, scaled a fence and entered a classroom crisis. negotiators spoke to that trespass or 4 hours too de-escalate the situation. the person volunteer voluntarily left the classroom eventually no details released on a possible motive or charges yet. but we do know the person was taken into custody and later taken to a medical facility. now to one of our

top stories this morning, officer bodycam footage shows san francisco police appear to tackle a woman to the ground and arresting her for sara stinson connected with that woman captured on video and brings us her side of the story. >> it's been nearly 5 months since amelia jones says she was tackled and arrested by san francisco police. while the bruises have healed, she says she's still on edge around officers. we do want to warn you some of the video you see may be disturbing. it's really shocking. and obviously was not something that i was expecting on that morning. what was supposed to be another workday changed in the blink of an eye for amelia jones? >> on july, 24th jones as she was walking her bike on sacramento street in san francisco when she came upon. police in riot gear lined up on a war in gaza. protests. >> jones says she saw officers tackle another

>> for police officers jumped on top of her and had her pinned down on the ground. jones says she started yelling for others to help her as officers started to corner. >> spring street. >> panic and confusion and really just desperation to get out of that situation was the main thing going through my head. officers can be seen tackling jones to the ground to arrest her. >> while in custody, jones as they started to ridicule her, they were just insinuating that i was doing it for attention. >> which and absurd thing to say. jones spent 36 hours in jail and was charged with resisting or obstructing an executive officer. >> battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest. a judge eventually dropped all of the charges after reviewing this body cam footage watched it together with my partner.

>> and you know, he was crying watching it and kind of like both of us were like shaking was validating to see the footage and kind of be like, ok, i didn't do anything. and i did not deserve that. and the public defenders, integrity unit agreed so much. so they helped jones filed a complaint against the department for excessive force filed on december 18th. so that won't happen again, so that we address. >> the behavior. >> i would like to see disciplinary action against the department of police accountability will be reviewing this complaint and then sending recommendations to the police chief that should take anywhere between 9 months up to a year. we reached out to sfpd and they said they cannot comment on any pending complaint. meanwhile, jones says she's considering a civil lawsuit for all of the emotional damages that she endured. i'm sara stinson reporting back to you. >> 2 people were found dead inside an oakland apartment friday night. police say it

that made me feel as if like the city of oakland, the city of oakland deserves to be number one in different reason. the city of oakland, then finally ron is not a regret of mine. thank speak to the situation around the oakland a's as absolutely. you know, no, i don't regret what happened with the oakland a's at all. i mean, at the end of the day, you know. we put out our best effort to try to keep the oakland a's in the city of oakland. obviously, the negotiations were far along the way before i got into office, you know, and so at the tail end of it, you know, there was a moment at the very beginning where we can salvage, you know, the relationship where we can move forward and we worked really hard to represent the values of the city of oakland and to keep the openai's here. and at the end of the day, you know, our values in a line they wanted to build a stadium on the backs of oakland taxpayers. and so at the end of the day, we also know that the a's were looking to leave the city of oakland for over a

decade. and so the seriousness on the city's part, it was all there and it was their decision. their decision to abandon the city of oakland. and you can watch my full extended interview with mayor sheng thao on our website right now. kron 4 dot com. >> next year, california increases the amount of money it takes out of workers. paychecks. the move is aimed at funding the state's disability insurance program. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has a closer look at what this means for you. >> if you're a worker in california, get ready for the state to take a little bit more your paycheck in 2025. all to help fund the state's disability insurance program. also known as the sti. as of today, the state already takes 1.1% of your earnings from your paycheck to help fund the sgi program. but come 2025. the state will increase that rate to 1.2%. it comes after the director of the california employment development department edd nancy farias earlier this year approved the

increase. the edd stresses by law furious is allowed to make such an increase each year as long as that increase is relatively small and is calculated based on a very specific, complicated formula. as for the sgi program itself, the edd wrote this about its quote. this is an insurance plan for more than 18 million california workers, not a tax. the 1.2% paycheck withholding make sure the insurance plan is funded and ready to help workers after an illness or injury pregnancy, childbirth or when they need paid family leave to care for an ill family member bond with a new child help during a family member's military deployment abroad and more. they're taking the money straight out of your paycheck. we think people should be aware of david klein of the california tax payers association or cal tech's says the edd decision was made without transparency. >> klein says he is not opposed to the sdi program as a whole but believes the latest decision to increase paycheck withholdings was made without letting the public

know. the edd says it did post the new increased on this part of its website. but klein says the agency did not put out any other notice or press release and should have done so. some people will look at the stats and say, well, it's only a $50 a year, $100 a that's not that big a deal. but at the end of the year when year coming $50 in this tax and this other tax, a local utility tax and sales tax increase, gas tax increases. >> property taxes go up a couple percent a year. all these things add up and at the end the year, it's a big hit on your budget. so we think people need to be aware that governor gavin newsom offering his thoughts earlier this week paid family leave. that was a multi-year stakeholder process that dozens of hearings and public forums. that's a very transparent process. it wasn't transparent. it wasn't really, you know, made known to the public that this is going to happen. >> and now, you know, come january one, does paychecks are going to be a little bit tighter and trust me. they're already really tight.

>> all right, 9.44 this morning and a bit overcast out there. san francisco day. yeah. covered up for our for right now. but give it time because it was working out some of that ground fog getting it lifted. by the way, out of sierra. see all of this, the drop in temperatures as the thing to note. >> by tuesday, getting those snow levels down around the 6,000 something feet level. so we see a drop and that means it'shcooler on the home front. and you can see all this low level moisture is still negotiating through. that's keeping this cloud cover in place. just checking to see how much rain we're going to get all week long. it looks like a san francisco picks up a buck and a half. same for sacramento, modesto, the only about $0.50 and you can see down to the south. monterey is $3.3, quarters of a buck. futurecast tells us that today we have the skies opening up for a time before another way place through tonight. but by monday, again, spotty showers, drizzle, all that business. maybe a couple peeks of sunshine, maybe then a heavier weight by monday night into tuesday. that's the takeaway. the by tuesday afternoon, we should open up a little bit more sun of that. big crash

about the important service you provide to folks in our community to start us off here. can you tell us a bit about the organization? larkin street works with young people who are at risk for are experiencing homelessness. we worked both in san francisco and in the east bay and we work with young people between the ages of 13. and 25 just incredible and walk us through the services that you provide. sure. so we provide sort of everything young people need in order to help resolve their homelessness or get state shelter, outreach, housing, education, employment, life skills, wellness and behavioral health supports. wow. and can you walk us through just what the scale of the issue is here in the bay area? how many unhoused use are there out there? in san francisco. we know that on any given night. we have about 1600 young people who might be experiencing homelessness. larkin street works with about 2000 young people every year oakland and alameda county. the number of young people is

about 900 that might be experiencing homelessness on any given night. and we just opened a couple of programs there. well, how do so many youth end up in becoming an house on the streets? you know, there are many reasons why young people are experiencing homelessness. often it can be family rejection family conflict or abuse or neglect when they were teenagers or younger can be economic issues. young people lose a job. they don't have the ability to get back into an apartment. young people might be have been kicked out of their homes because they identify as, bisexual or transgendered. so we what we know is that trauma has often happened that has caused young people to experiencing to experience homelessness. and then it's very challenging and difficult traumatic to p outside. and how does your service how is how do you find folks who are the situation and what is sort of what is the pipeline, if you will, that that really was a process that they go through once they get connected.

shuri. young people find us through word of mouth sometimes right to other young people will tell their friends about larkin street. they might find out about us from other community-based resources. they might just come into our drop-in center on golden gate and what young people going. our first our order of business is to establish trust. so young people come in to get showers or food to talk to somebody about how to get into housing or how to get a job. and then as they come inside our job is to get them in a shelter and into housing and then they can stay in our housing for up to 2 years, sometimes longer. and we know that when young people exit our housing programs, 9 out of 10 exit into safe and stable housing up their own. having made significant progress on education employment, wellness and life skills. that's just incredible. thank you for sharing tell us a bit about this winter fest. yeah, that you have planned. this is something the public and also engage in as well to help,

correct? correct. so winterfest is our holiday celebration on december 25th from 9 to 2 at our engagement center at one 34 golden gate. and we have some pictures from previous years. so that okay? so it's about creating celebration holiday opportunities for young people so that they can feel cared about. so they get food and gifts live music games and activities. and so we have volunteers and staff that help that day all day. the way that your viewers can help is to buy gift cards from amazon or target and drop them off at one 34 golden gate or donate to our website. we also always need things like scarves and hats and coats for young people. and what's the website address www larkin street youth dot org. okay. and there's i imagine a link there that people could easily

definitely is one and can people also volunteer in any way? i was sort of services. are you looking for maybe mentorship opportunities? yeah. so the ways in people can volunteers to contact us through our website, we do some group volunteer activities. people can come in and help maybe cook a meal for young people. help help stock are cut or clothing closet. we also have landscaping opportunities that some of our housing programs and then what a lot of folks do is work within their businesses over there groups. they're their friend ge ups and and cre clothing drives are drives for socks and clean underwear under obviously anything else that young people might and what are some items, but that you say would be most in demand right now, most in demand for us in addition to gift cards are things like a scarves. hats, coats. it's very cold outside. so we always need to be getting young people, the things they need to stay warm in. the weather we just heard about. we're going to have. and as we start to wrap things up here, do have a message for any

>> we have a forecast that unsettled is how we're going to specify all the stephanie lot of cloud cover still in the city. >> lease that moisture is lit. looked up a little bit of cloud cover from ground level. now, ciara, if you're headed up there at all for the holiday looks pretty nice. we're going to get some snow for you by your christmas eve. this is because snow levels will be falling about 6,000 feet or so. notice the temperature drop, which you will see on the home front as well. storm tracker clearing on out again. at least a lot. we have to wort at the surface, though, on the surface moisture. but we're clear out. so you see some sunshine this afternoon. now in total for this unsettled week. this gives you an idea of estimated rainfall totals. and again, it's more than a buck and a half for san francisco. looks like also for sacramento, too. so we'll get treated to a decent amount over the whole period. but at least we're going it over a long period of time. that's going to cut down on the media flooding. so again, overnight into tomorrow. here we go. we have a way that moves through. it tes a little bit of a break in the afternoon and then it's a monday night into tuesday. that's a bigger hit.
