>> well, your health this holiday season, while the holidays can be filled with joy for some, they can trigger feelings of loneliness, depression and isolation. earlier today, kron 4 spoke with a mental health expert who says it's not just stress, but also the weather can have an effect. >> this is definitely a triggered stress is a trigger for pretty much every mental health disorder and for a lot of physical illnesses as well. but also the weather changes the cold. the minutes i remember for me when i moved to seattle, i didn't drink coffee before that. even though i'm from jamaica, where the best coffees from. but on stat rain and grain us just how do you feel? he had me feeling sleepy. and so the stress is definitely there. you know, the pressures, the financial concerns out of that, the cold, gloomy weather. so we're not going outside and getting as much sun as we normally would. and also for some people reduced physical activity. if you're like me, wou're most people are less physically active in the winner because, you know, going outside is putting on the coats boots and a scarf and all of that. but because
2:14 pm
of the reduced pace collective, it is stress some social isolation as well because again, we're not interacting with people as we normally would, because we're not going outside as much so social isolation can also be a risk. >> doctor, ruth white also says you could see a change in appetite with a seasonal depression. she says when people feel depressed, sometimes they'll eat more or less. but you want everyone to know that they're not alone. this holiday season. >> this definitely triggered stress is a trigger for pretty much every mental health disorder and for a lot of physical illnesses as well. but also the weather changes the cold. the glue minutes. i remember for me when i moved to seattle, i didn't drink coffee before that. even though i'm from jamaica where the best coffees from. but on stat rain and grain us just how do you feel? he had me feeling sleepy. and so the stress is definitely there. you know, the pressures, the financial concerns out of that, the cold, gloomy weather. so we're not going outside and getting as much sun as we normally would. and also for some people reduced

physical activity. if you're like me, you're most people are less physically active in the winner because, you know, going outside is putting on the coats boots and a scarf and all of that. but because of the reduced pace collective, it is stress some social isolation as well because again, we're not interacting with people as we normally would, because we're not going outside as much so social isolation can also be a risk. >> well, doctor white says it's okay to say no to social outings as well. as you said, finding balance is the key to not feeling isolated. >> all right. well, with let's take a live look now at pacifica beach. the bay area currently under a high surf advisory. >> yeah, it is. i want to mention, though, on the note of the last story, we are gaining a little daylight each day now as we overcast or solstice. also in your seven-day forecast are some sunshine for you. all right. good news there. yes, looking forward to it, too. but let's talk about the danger the coast because it is important every window in this is because we've got a northwest swell that's been rolling in very similar to what we had a few days ago. you can see we
2:16 pm
look up by point arena wave high right now about 23 feet were not that high as we get in towards the bay area. but we are certainly well above where we should be right now. you can see sitting off the point race coast about 14 foot high wave. so that advisory does go not just through today, but through 04:00pm sunday. so it's all through the weekend. you want to make sure that you're being careful or better yet. if you can avoid the coast, it's going to be a little bit rainy anyway. so it's not really the most pleasant place to be. sneaker waves are definitely a possibility. and breaking waves of 20 to 30 feet, which as we've seen, can have tragic consequences. so you just never want to turn your back on the ocean and please be very careful are the big stories. we've got rain coming in not just today, but over the next couple of days. this is the next 5 days. so we are again in that showery drizzly phase. we're going to see this rain kind of roll in tonight. and then tomorrow we're going to have that wind and a little bit of rain to start the day off and then little pull back a little bit and just be kind of drizzly. another shot coming in as you can see. but once we get to monday, that's when things finally start to clear out. and we catch a
2:17 pm
little bit of a break. so between now and tomorrow, looking out for about an inch to an inch and a half of rain. but look at what happens as we go all the way to sunday. you can see that we're looking at 2 inches of rain in the north bay, almost an inch and a half in parts of the east bay. so it's really quite widespread. so that just means that, you know, we've got to just continually be on alert for this creeks and streams because we're very saturated ground out there. we've seen some of those levels start to rise and over the next few days are just going to be off even more. here's the big picture. look, and i want to show you this because, yes, we have the success of systems. the one tonight, the one tomorrow. and you can see it kind of rolls through. but once we get past the weekend and take you into monday, now you start to see that stormy weather staying to the north of us. a little high pressure building in helping bump it up to places like seattle and portland and start to keep us a little bit drier and a little sunnier. here's your seven-day forecast. so kwanzaa starts today. happy kwanzaa to anyone who celebrates a little rain for you for that. as we get to our evening showery as
2:18 pm
we head across the next 4 days. but then monday and remember, this is going to be new year's eve new year's day when we get into tuesday night and wednesday, it looks like we're gonna have some really nice weather now. the caveat is once we clear the skies, look at those overnight lows in milan, valleys, they go right back down into those 30's. so we'll start to cool it down a little bit compared to today will be kind of warmed it up as you're in the warm sector of this system. but some dry weather on the other side of the weekend. all right. hip, hip, hooray. >> engine ears as santa cruz are still working to assess the structural integrity of the wharf after a portion of it was wiped out. dangerous. well slammed into the structure on monday comes a 3 city workers to fall into the water. 2 of them were rescued by lifeguards. the other managed to swim back to land. officials are urging tourists and beachgoers to avoid this area as debris continues to wash ashore. a driver in san francisco is dead after crashing into a tree at golden gate park. this happened wednesday evening on 19th avenue between park, presidio and crossover drive. no word

more just so pretty that i i'm taking dime to people with got a few hearty souls have been at here hanging out. >> even though the snow is coming down there right now. so snow here and you can see as we take a look at temperatures at the surface, a little bit warmer here at the gauges south lake tahoe, where the reporting rain right now and we take a live look at. you can see that is certainly the case for uc definitely just the wet roads that are out there here at incline village. but it's been a snowy day and they are going to see that continues to get throughout the night tonight. you can see some of the rain that starting to roll in to the bay area. and that, of course, will make its way up to the sierra eventually as well. so here we are things a little bit light, but certainly some snow happening. if you're on 50, not a great place to be. they are under this winter weather advisory and it doesn't just go through tonight, but it does go through noon on friday. so that's really the time frame. if you want to get up there, you kinda want to wait until noon on friday. passes by and then things calmed down a little bit. so we're looking at snow levels about 6,000 feet, about 2 to 8 inches up the peaks. we could see another foot and a half or so of snow. so adding to all of

those totals, here's futurecast me take you through. so again, here's the rain that's coming into the bay area. the snow that is in tahoe right now as we get into the evening very quickly, we see the showers turn to more snow for tahoe and then really involved as we get to the late night tonight. so those folks on the road, i hope they get where they're going because this is going to get worse before it gets better. that's for sure. friday morning, a break. and then you can see a few more flurries trying to come through as we work our way into friday evening. that one probably won't add up to much. but later in the weekend we have another shot. so this is totals are looking out for tonight. and then once we get into saturday and sunday, you can see your dad to that a little bit. so we just kind of continue with this pretty decent season of snow we've had so far and rain for us here in the bay. if you're making your plans again, i would not head up there to afternoon tomorrow. you can see a few showers expected friday morning. but then things should start to get better weather-wise, cloudy conditions on saturday. so that would be a fine day for travel and probably a pretty good day for skiing, too, bringing it back to the day. we have had some cloudy skies
