here with an update on conditions that rain is back in the bay area. some showers falling around the bay area now make things slick out there for folks traveling out and about at this time. well, that's where we see throughout the night tonight city picking up as we head through the night tonight, be heavy at times. some gusty winds to go along with it out for the golden gate bridge. you can see some slick roads out there right now. some folks got the windshield wipers on. and, yeah, get ready for that kind of rough right out there right now. as we head through the night tonight, early tomorrow morning, series of storms going to impact the bay area as we head toward the end of the year. a little bit of a break in the stormy weather pattern yesterday. but now it is back on again and that rain just starting to pick up now. more that going to be settling in as we head through the night tonight. so you can even see some moderate amounts of rain begin to move into parts of bay area. see the yellow bands start to slide in right now. nothing really heavy out there. but enough to get things slick out there. that's for sure and make things dangerous out there on the roads overnight tonight. here's a short range model shows by about 10 o'clock tonight. the rain will kind of picks up. you see some moderate, maybe some heavy amounts of rain begin to move
5:46 pm
into parts of san francisco along the peninsula as parts of the north bay to and then as we head toward midnight tonight, another band just kind of slides on probably the main front moving on through behind that. it turns more towards scattered showers and things begin to taper off. as we look toward tomorrow morning. so not a rainout for tomorrow. there's a chance you might see some showers early in the morning. lot of club passing clouds then by the evening again, another chance of rain moving in. but this is not going to be only storm impacting the bay area as we head through the next few days. this from moving to for tomorrow behind that. yeah, we've got a few more scattered showers. the focus will be northern california. then a stronger storm system moves in that coming in late on saturday night into early on sunday morning. back to be a major rainmaker. then as we get toward next week, start to dry things out on monday. and of course, new year's eve, a very important day. and we're going to see what looks like some dry weather conditions, i think on new year's eve, we may not need to worry about the rain but fog could be more of an issue as we head in toward that new year's eve celebration. after that looks like high pressure is going to hold on for a little bit. so
5:47 pm
looks like overall things drying out fact, the long-range computer models as we head toward the first of the year, you start to see some brown out there, even some dark brown. that means below normal precipitation is the forecast during at least the first week of january. after that, you know, january can be it can really open up. but we're going to see a lot of rain over the next 24 hours around the bay area, maybe as much of an inch. plus in parts of the north bay at the next system. we start to get more impressive totals in that next one coming through saturday night and sunday. maybe a couple inches plus across some of the higher peaks in the north bay. so it's gonna be pretty slick out there, at least for a couple more days. got to hang in there. think the good news is as we get right toward the end of this year, things clear out the brand new year looking beautiful. and brian, i love that positive thinking and to add to that, i want to point out that at least our groundwater supplies being built absolute really important role as farmers out there. >> yeah, yeah. these don't look like real flooding rains either that are coming through. so. >> yeah, all beneficial. that's for sure. and of course, people up with this year are loving all this or they ever. yeah. all right. thank you, lawrence.

desperately needed. kelly beeson has a look back at 2024 in a year that felt a lot like wall street versus main street. >> when america ring in 2024, with the stock market in record territory, there was cautious optimism for the year ahead. lot of people were projecting interest rates would finally start to come down to 2024. >> a lot of people thought inflation was finally under control. instead, it turned out to be year of dueling perspectives. there was a parade of positive indicators. consumer spending exceeding expectations. inflation slowing wheat is up 4.6% in 12 months and a series of strong jobs report. the job market is cooking along. >> at a great rate, that's the 20th month in a row that the unemployment rate has been below 4%. >> americans citing different data. >> my grocery bill a week is over $700. 5 people. it's crazy. i mean, everything

like matthew kalish, relying on side hustles to get by. he works overnight at a new jersey hotel. then clocks in for his day job as a u.s. postal worker. i mean, we're sometimes at the end of the week where, you know, the big bills are paid, but we're waiting till friday to go grocery shopping things like that because there's only so much money to go around even with both jobs because even slowing inflation means prices are still going up. so it doesn't mean prices are going to drop necessarily. it just means that they might stabilize or grow more slowly. if your prices actually start to go down. that actually called a deflationary economy. and that's not a good thing from an economic perspective in september. with inflation hitting a three-year low. >> the fed made its first cut to interest rates. the u.s. economy is in a good place and and our decision today is designed to keep it there. expectations were high, but the average 30 year mortgage rate only dipped briefly to 6.2% before stubbornly sticking up for americans

under a staggering record. 1.7 trillion dollars in credit card debt. it barely made a difference credit card. debt is high and rising and the average interest rate on a credit card in the u.s. is somewhere between 2025%. some as high as 36%. but americans don't seem to be tightening their belts when it comes to holiday shopping or on indulgences. like meal deliveries, expected to top 95 billion dollars this year. i'm definitely scratching my head of the people's willingness to pay for the convenience of meal delivery and things like that. not only are prices generally higher when you order delivery service, that's on top of 30% food inflation that we've seen over the past 5 years. if all the traditional economic data fields as reliable as jack sparrow's compass, maybe it's time to look at that other famous indicator, the men's underwear index which suggests men don't replace their briefs in boxers as often in tough economic times. it pains stock is any things are on the
