above that. ♪ mark: how about a nice warm welcome to the los angeles county sheriff's department museum foundation. they are celebrating their 175th year of service. a replica mud wagon similar to 1872. it was used to transport prisoners across the vast territory they served. riding shotgun is sheriff robert luna. horses pull the wagon adorned with yellow roses. all of the sheriff's personnel are dressed in traditional western wear from the mid-19th century. 1926, a sheriff led the

procession and the rose parade on horseback. i will pop quiz you later on that one. leeza: it has been a busy, beautiful start to the new year. just like that, the parade has come to a close, finale. there were some favorite moments. can i start first? mark: yes, please. leeza: there was a woman's power story led by billie jean king. what a great way to remind audiences of this woman's spectacular influence on the 20th century. not just in sports but the feeling of, you have to stand up for yourself. i loved our grand marshal. mark: is it my turn? i want to go with the improv nature thisade has offered. fans stopping the show and taking over. that made it one of the best days ever for us as hosts.

2025, kicked off on a high note. storm tracker 4 is showing showers to the north of the bay area, but that's where they're going to stay. nothing making its way down our direction today. we'll seeing a few passing clouds, but overall, a pretty pleasant forecast 40's to 50's for our current temperatures. oakland at 50 degrees right now. we've got petaluma at 44 fairfield sitting at 46egrees. nta rosa. also at 46. so don't forget that extra layer is you're venturing out this morning. of course, it is chilly. but this afternoon we will reach the upper 50's couple low 60's in the mix tonight, some patchy fog and just an overall cold evening. >> well, we have some breaking news out of new orleans, our affiliate station. they are reports multiple people are dead after a pickup truck plowed into a crowd on bourbon street. this is early on new year's day killing 10 and injured at least 30 people. police also reporting 5, at least one improvised explosive device asking people to stay away from bourbon street today as they and the fbi continue

investigating. officials say the incident took place at the end of the new year celebration when a suspected driver drove around barricades driving into that crowd and shooting at officers and hurting at least 2 of them. the suspect was killed in a gun firefight with police. this comes just hours before kick off of all state bowl. officials say and security has been ramped up for that event. the fbi is investigating this as an act of terrorism. well, times 11 and new this morning, the new year bring in higher costs for commuters across the bay area. the tolls for all 7 state-owned bridges. now one dollar more than last year, congress. we'll trend line of the bay bridge. i guess we'll we are paying a little extra to get to work today. good morning. >> it's now the law, $8 at the stroke of midnight before that at 11, 59, it was $7. $8 will be the new law of the land, at least for one year as voters

actually approved that this back in 2018. yet started 3 ways of toll increases. one in 2021. 22 23. and then now 2025 each year. one dollar culminating now at $8. the money, according to the metropolitan transportation commission, is being used or was being used as they are still collecting the money. of course, for transportation projects all over the bay area, including works on the bridge. this takes effect at all state ridges except the golden gate bridge. that is a privately-owned bridge. but the sad part is if you are commuting across the bridges, this is only going to last one year as it will continue to go out. take a look at your screen. these are the new prices starting next year as ntc, we actually approved of this last month. so what's going to happen is in 2026. so

we are here the same time next year, it will be $8.50. it will go up $0.50 every year all the way through 2030, culminating in $10.50. if you have fast track, the money will be used for bridge maintenance and repairs and other projects. just to give you perspective on how much we are all paying for the bay bridge and other bridges, except again, the golden gate bridge back in 1997. it cost one dollar. it's across the bay bridge. all right. all of that history and we're going to be right back after the break. so make sure you stay break. so make sure you stay with the kron. 4 news.

>> several san francisco intersections and major thoroughfares are going to be upgraded in the new year. their london breed says the city is going to set aside 36 million dollars for new and existing traffic safety projects that includes 2 traffic signals to be installed in the outer sunset district. sidewalks and transit lanes are going to be spruced up. and the area of pollen folsom streets are can also be improved. some of that money will also be used to improve a bicycle and pedestrian path on your bubble in island of great san francisco buses. >> 10, 17 now and it's been a pretty gorgeous morning. i mean, we had an awesome new year's eve last night. if you are looking at a view like this down into the bay, you would have seen those fireworks just fine from the embarcadero in san francisco. >> obviously this morning, a few clouds passing overhead but not too bad out there. in fact, quite dry across the bay area. we do have showers to the north of the bay and the

potential. a couple sprinkles on the north coast and up in the lake county mountains for the bay, though it is rather dry and today is going to continue to bring that nice, dry weather to it unless you are heading really north of mendocino county. that's where you're running into a lot of activity as we move through the week today and tomorrow are going to continue the strike trend. but friday, that's when we see rainfall pushing into the bay area. and it does look like quite the rainy day on friday, light to moderate showers. so nothing too terribly heavy, but some rain nonetheless for your friday saturday drying back out first weekend of the new year. looking good for any outdoor activities. rainfall has for friday is going to amount to around a quarter of an inch for parts of the bay area. again, very manageable totals, but a wet one for the start of your weekend anyways. temperatures in the city today saying in the 50's we're also oing to be in the 50's right along the coastline. daytime highs along the bay shore, mostly upper 50's this afternoon and getting close to

that 60 degree mark for mountain view and palo alto getting to the low 60's down in the santa clara valley. the state temperatures also a range of upper 50's to low 60's this afternoon. oakland at 59 degrees, north bay temperatures much the same mid to upper 50's for you. a look ahead in your forecast is showing daytime highs remaining steady. that chance of showers on friday. but aside from that, this is a dry forecast, all right. 5 out of the alameda county fire department shared this video of an rv fire crews put out. >> this happened monday on barton street. newark crews. we're about 28 trucks there. they were able to quickly arrive, knock down the flames and prevent anybody from being hurt. while fire crews illinois fire rtnt says the battle is second alarm fireearly tuesday, the fire was first reported outdoor hann stret, right near fist seet. but then it spread to a second story taant. the fire damaged entire first floor extended into thsecond floor with a small floor collapse from the second onto the first officials are still

investigating. >> to 19 now, sunnyvale fire department is receiving a grant from the california water service. this is part of their program to award more than $175,000 towards 7 fire departments and state. this will help support local fire departments and their efforts to provide rescue and emergency services. the money for the sunnyvale fire department will go towards specialized wild land firefighting, personal protective equipment that helps protect firefighters against the unpredictable and extreme conditions they encounter when responding to fires. >> time now to 19,000. people flocked overton and barca. darryl for the annual fireworks show at the ferryville. turned out. so nice out there. but police continue to warn people that any fireworks outside the show are legal kron four's lindsey ford reports. the you do have to land somewhere and that's either on their own home or other neighbor's home. >> and potential for fire

can't happen. an important reminder, fireworks may be a popular way to ring in the new year celebration, but they are illegal in the city of san francisco for a reason. we've had several. >> these fireworks land on roof tops and start fires or in between buildings because the nature of of stem school construction, homes are very close together. they can also be deadly last year in 18 year-old died in san francisco because of illegal fireworks. he succumbed to his injuries. the other head injury. >> because the fire were did not go off as planned. he went back to check on it and he looked over the top looking down at the device and the device went off. right? as you look down. marianna, eli, us with sf fire was on that. they do call in hopes people will stop using illegal fireworks. so it's not worth it to risk your own life and then to the lives of others who are just trying to celebrate the incoming year. marianna says

>> well, if plan on traveling next year, remember that may 2025 falling in a marked the start of the required use of a real id to fly in the u.s.. the cia's require licenses and state-issued id's to meet certain security protocols. some travelers might already have a real id, complete document and not even know it since of an issue in them for years. now gold or black star on a state issued id passes as a real id. expect to pay a little more when it comes to your prescription medications that starts today. median price hike will reportedly be 4 and a half percent. more than 250 drugs are expected to cost a little more. pfizer is expected to raise prices on more than 60 of those trucks.

>> labels across the nation down have to show levels of lead and mercury in their products. that's thanks to a new california law. baby food manufacturers are now required to test their products monthly for heavy metals and disclose the results. it may take time for the new label products to hit store shelves. the law was inspired by 2021. congressional investigation that found dangerously high levels of heavy metals in packaged baby foods. >> it will probably continue to be tougher to find a reasonably priced aig's in the new year. >> the problem continues to be the bird flu outbreak. the department of agriculture says a production dropped about 4% in november compared to last year. that translates to higher prices. of course, prices are up more than 8% compared to the same time last year. well, still to come on the kron, 4 morning news, how forty-niners quarterback brock purdy is doing after his latest injury. >> erin wilson has the update.

>> 10 32 san jose police have arrested one person after a home invasion turned deadly. they say is happened monday night at a home on payne avenue. police got a call saying a suspected broken into their home and was fighting with another person in the home. officers found a man and a woman both with stab wounds. both were rushed to the hospital where the man later past the suspect tried to run away but was quickly caught. the woman is expected to survive and police are still investigating. in the east bay. the oakland police department is investigating after they say a deadly stabbing occurred. they say it happened tuesday night on 70th avenue. officers arrived and found one person with stab wounds. the victim was rushed to the hospital, but later died. the identity of the victim will be released at a later date. police are still investigating the scene as well. oakland police are also investigating a shooting that happened last night. this is on second street officers of fried to find one person with gunshot wound. that person was

taken to the hospital and is listed as stable. a short time lar, pice were notified of 3 other victims with gunshot wounds and took themselves to the hospital. one of those victims later died of their injuries. the other 2 are listed stable. this investigation is also ongoing. another person shot to death in west oakland this morning. it happened at 14th and poplar streets. police say they have not yet publicly identified the victim as always. they're hoping for leads from the public. >> well, the contra costa coroner's office released the identity of a 15 year-old boy was killed in a car accident. this is around 2.30, sunday morning to adam. a real was in a car that crashed under the 6.80, overpass. investigators say 3 of the 5 people that car ran away. we're little died at a local hospital and the 16 year-old driver was later arrested and now faces charges, including vehicular manslaughter. danville. a man is in jail after an hours-long stand-off with police monday night. this is right after police responded to report of

felony battery at a home on hill metal ace. the suspect identified as kevin say, barricaded himself inside his home. police evacuated nearby homes and they say the man eventually surrendered. 2 teens under arrest in nevada on gun-related charges. this is early december. a woman said she was held at gunpoint, iraq right near nevada, high by a group of teens. but no one was found. then on sunday, a girl was shot in the house when police showed up and the suspect was nowhere to be found. investigators worked in tandem with school resource officers. police then arrested 2 teen suspects one on monday and the other one on tuesday. >> we >> hear all. >> this was the scene in folsom sunday night after a 14 year-old wanted for vandalism was confronted by police. the teenager was on the e-bike and sped through oncoming traffic at speeds of 60 miles per hour. police stopped the chase

several times but eventually managed to arrest the boy. he's facing charges of evading police and vandalism. in the east bay state task force found over 23 million dollars worth of illegal cannabis in east oakland, governor gavin newsom's office said the california united cannabis enforcement task force recovered over 21,000 illegal marijuana plants in the operation. officials also sees more than $3,000 of illegal cannabis flower and $10,000 in cash. this is one of over 350 operations carried out by the california united cannabis enforcement task force since it was created back in 2022. well, francisco police have also arrested a man they say is suspected of dealing drugs. they say a month long investigation into 35 year-old brian byrd shows found he was actively selling narcotics in the area of 6th and market streets. a search of his car last week uncovered drugs and cash, including 9,000 grams of narcotics scales, a money counter guns and ammunition.

>> the partisan gridlock from both parties in congress certainly playing a factor here. as we know this session of congress goes down as one of the least productive and american history. we're looking at this congress, the 118 session compared to last year. we know this congress passed just 209 bills over the last 2 years. we know that's down from more than 350 in the last congress. but keep in mind that on average, each congress over the last 32 years has passed more than 389 bills that were signed into law. a lot of the gridlock was fueled by partisan battles between the republican controlled house and democratic senate as well as the white house. not to mention several funding fights as well. efforts to expand your congressman and accused fraudster jorge santos from office to representatives being indicted. and of course, notable infighting amongst the gop leading to the historic removal of speaker kevin mccarthy and the days long efforts to replace him. and
