for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 11. i'm noelle bellow. new details tonight about the man suspected of being behind the deadly new orleans attack this morning. his name is. >> samsa dean bahar and he what jabar excuse me. and he was a 42 year-old army veteran from texas. the fbi releasing this photo of the suspect tonight. officials say he was, quote, bent on carnage and pledged allegiance to isis before plowing into a crowd with a pickup truck killing at least 15 people. he then got out of the car and began shooting at police. the fbi says he was then shot to death by officers. officials found an islamic state group flag guns and pipe bombs in his truck. the fbi says it does

not believe he acted alone. after surveillance footage captured 3 men and a woman placing one of the multiple explosive devices in the french quarter. we expect. >> to put the full force and resources of the federal government behind this investigation. >> the fbi is investigating the incident as an act of terror. now in response to the attack, governor newsom says the state threat assessment center is on high alert closely coordinating and sharing information with partner law enforcement agencies to kron four's gayle ong has more local reaction. >> we checked in with local law enforcement. we heard back from a san francisco oakland and san jose police who are all monitoring the tragic situation in new orleans and all say while there is no credible threats in their cities, the public is advised to stay vigilant. >> new year's celebrations turned into terror in new orleans as a truck plowed into

people on the famed bourbon street killing at least 15 people, injuring at least 30 the city of new orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack. the fbi is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism. investigators recovered and islamic state group flag and said the truck driver with a u.s. citizen from texas. he was killed in a shootout with police. 3 of our officers. >> engage this care roast. who shot at them? 3 of the officers returned fire. those officers did not run in fear. new orleans police chief anne kirkpatrick, who also used to be oakland's police chief, says the officers are recovering. the fbi believes the driver did not act alone. meantime, back in the bay area. >> it's scary. >> the news of the attack is on people's minds like cody larkin in many boston. it's really scary. and it's at 7. we. >> i live in a place where this is something that we have to think about. honestly, one of the first that's a had was when i was just how many people are out celebrating

got radicalized and figuring out who else he was likely working with. >> you know, it's one of those. it's a soft target. street bourbon street in new orleans. and it's a you know, it's difficult to prevent a terrorist attack on a soft target like that. you can you can strengthen security different, you know, embassies military installations. street is really difficult. >> as for the suspect, smith says the fbi again is working to find out who else he may have been working with. and of course, how he got radicalized the first place. taking a live look now at the transamerica pyramid kron four's chief meteorologist is standing by. he told us it was going to be. >> a little colder start to this new year you were not lying or yeah, clouds flowing through a few scattered showers even popping up across the north bay and well, things have settled down rain wise, but still a few lingering clouds around the bay area tonight and it's going to be cold out there overnight

tonight. >> and tomorrow morning tuesday, look across the bay on this first day of 2025. temperatures right now. yes, starting a chilly in spots are in the 40's now in oakland. 52 in san francisco. 45 in live more 5. 45 also in cocker. 49 in santa rosa and 48 degrees now in half moon bay. so, yeah, it's going to be chilly out there. you get a little moisture in the atmosphere to and that has to make things feel really cold outside most. the rain, though, located in a far northern california showers really making their way toward a eureka in crescent city. those are even scattered right now. there's a more impressive system sitting off the coastline that will likely be moving our way, but not just yet. i think tomorrow should be a mainly dry day. we'll see some partly cloudy skies, some sunshine poking through and should be a decent day around the bay area. many spots moving up in the 60's. but that rain is not that far away. looks like that will be moving in before the end of the week. we'll have more on that coming up in a few minutes. thank you, lawrence. a family of 6 in the south bay beginning the new year without a home. their house caught fire early this morning.

>> kron four's lindsey ford reports from mountain view. >> the fire started at 3.20 this morning in a mountain view neighborhood outside west el camino reale the couple and their 4 children were in the home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely. >> but this is severely crazy happening on new year's eve. yeah. so pretty rare. we we really see fire engines here. >> pieces of tile, roofing, wood and other debris lay in piles outside of this mountain view home. it went up in flames just after 03:00am on new year's day and shanker who lives across the street was awake when the fire trucks came through the neighborhood. ice could see like really bright red lights from behind. my do. >> when i stepped out, i saw like what the fire engines the street was block do that. >> the homeowners say the fire started inside of a trash can next to the attached garage. the flames then traveled to a fence and then up to the roof of the garage. shanker watched

as fire crews cut a hole in the roof. they are using some kind of a chainsaw to cut to pop off the roof open to when the heat out. theehomeowners did not wish to go on camera, but they say there is severe smoke damage inside of their home. they're able to stay at hotel tonight. thanks to a donation from the california professional firefighters union. the neighbors are concerned. kevin quinn has lived in the neighborhood for 28 years. he lives next door to the family and says the whole neighborhood is sending them well wishes. and i spoke to we're getting e-mails and calls from people saying zipping, okay. >> so everybody's watching >> the homeowners say their focus right now is to work with their insurance company to fix the damage in their home and looking toward a brighter new year. the cause of the fire is still under investigation in mountain view. lindsay forward kron 4 news. >> and jose, 2 people also without a home tonight after a fire tore through their house.

firefighters responded to that house fire around noon on sharp avenue in the mayfair neighborhood. fortunately no one was hurt here. red cross is working with the 2 adults who were displaced. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> residents in the east bay started off the new year with sideshows video about 300 people participating in the sideshow in vallejo this morning happened around 1 o'clock on alameda street. >> sideshow then moved to oakland on market street where people set off fireworks. there. oakland police say as soon as they arrived on scene, although spectators dispersed, they ran off the last day of the year in 2024. also came with 3 homicides in oakland. 2 people were killed by gunfire and a 3rd was killed in a stabbing kron four's rob nesbitt has more. >> new year's eve should be

about celebrating, but it was a day of violence in oakland. the police activity started with a fatal shooti g on 14th street and ended with another on second fireworks and gunshots rang off on new year's eve in oakland city. councilmember noel gallo heard them from his neighborhood. it was out of control in my neighborhood there in the fruitvale area on the block. next to me on the block, the sun, the fireworks, the gunshots. so we're it started early with police responding to a shooting on 14th street around 07:15am. one person was found shot and paramedics responded, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. the violence continued with the second homicide on 70th ave around 07:45pm when a person was stabbed to death. lastly, 4 people had to be taken to the hospital because of a shooting on second street shortly after 10:15pm, 3 of them in stable condition. but the 4th person succumb to their injuries youth alive is an open organization that works to create a safer oakland, free of violence. laura greenberg with youth alive says violence at its

core is a public health issue. the more we spend time building positive community relationships, connecting individuals with resources and also on the larger sort of more macro level, making sure that we have housing security, income security, job security when it comes to city leadership. oakland's interim mayor nikki fortunato bas only has until january 6th. >> that's what a new city council president takes over as interim mayor followed by a special election in april to name a permanent mayor. >> councilmember gallo says whoever is in the mayor's office needs to push for more police officers hoping for a total of around 800. i've gotten calls yesterday last night terms of people being robbed, the business and so forth. >> but at the end of the day for me is very clear. we need more police presses on our streets prior to yesterday's crimes. opd reported the city seeing a 5 year low in homicides and shootings. interim mayor fortunato bas says that's because of oakland's cease-fire strategy. >> reporting in the newsroom.

i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news. >> it is officially more expensive to travel across bay area bridges and to use some modes of public transportation and now costs $8 to cross all bay area bridges that is except for the golden gate bridge which already hiked its price to $9. and $0.25 over the summer that hold for all other bridges will also continue to increase by $0.50 every year for the next 5 years. officials say the money from the increase will go towards bridge maintenance, rehabilitation and other operations. as for muni and bart, you'll pay $0.25 more per single ride. officials say that increase is going to help the transit system. keep pace with inflation, pay for operations and also restore financial stability. still ahead here on kron 4, a cyber truck explodes outside trump tower in las vegas. we have the very latest on that investigation. >> plus, a bizarre traffic stop in madera leads to the

in vallejo. police are looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a man yesterday. according to officers that shooting happened on kemper street around 5.40, in evening. afterwards, a man went to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound and he died from his injuries. city officials say this was the 25th homicide of 2024 and delay. how any with information is asked to contact police. one person is dead. 7 others hurt after a tesla cyber truck exploded outside president-elect donald trump's las vegas hotel this morning. authorities say the incident is being investigated as a possible terror act. they believe fireworks, gas tanks and camping fuel were used in a detonation system controlled by the driver inside that tesla cybertruck. >> as we do know, the truck rented in colorado. we're are able to trace that truck through the tesla's charging

stations. and it arrived here in las vegas this morning at about 7.30, and went up and down las vegas boulevard before immediately pulling into the trump towers. >> investigators say the cyber truck was rented on the car rental company it's the same app that was used to rent the pickup truck in the deadly attack in new orleans. authorities are exploring whether there is any connection between both incidents. let's get you a check of your forecast on this first day of 2025, this is a view from our mount tam cam. things seem pretty clear outside clear and cold. lawrence starting the new year off. >> very, very chilly. yeah. little by the air out there. that's for sure. if you're headed out and about grab the jacket, of looks like we may see another round of rain coming our way. but that may be it for quite some time. so starting out this new year, drier than normal, that's for sure. out there right now.

yeah, things looking good out there right now, although sir, no a little cold out there in spots. that's for sure. and we're gonna see that as we head throughout the night tonight, golden gate bridge, kind of quiet out there after a very busy night last night. well, the folks coming into san francisco to see the fireworks temperatures out the door right now. you're 48 degrees in half moon bay. 44 in dublin, 51 downtown san francisco. 45 in napa. 45 also in nevada on forty-seven degrees. now in sonoma right now. dry out there across the skies. we did have a few scattered light showers, mainly north of the golden gate bridge had a couple wondering sprinkles a little further south, but things kind of quieting down there. but so busy in the middle of pacific. and so we've got another storm system just beginning to put itself together. this could be the one not only bringing the rain to the bay area. also going to generate some swells. i think we're see some more big swells moving in as we head in toward friday. so be prepared for that. but forecast models picking up on weather tomorrow. most the rain staying to the north. then that cold front comes showing off the coast line that moves in by friday

morning. bring rain across the bay or in the back side starting to dry out after that looks like the weekend looks pretty good. but alright, forecast looks kind of interesting. you know, we've got that area low pressure getting closer, the coastline bringing that rain on friday and then behind that of a sudden the wettest one of wettest months of the season. and it looks like high pressure just kind of taken over and we're going to get a big dome of high pressure along the west coast and we get a big ridge. you get a very big trough to across the country's midsection. that is going leads to some bitter cold temperatures across the u.s. so long range forecast models. we take you through the middle of the month to plenty of some very dry conditions around the bay area. so, yeah, we're gonna start off things on the road. right side. hopefully get back to the rain as we toward the middle ofomonth right now doesn't look like much 15 60's out there across the bay area for highs tomorrow. next few days we're going to see least a chance of showers on friday morning drying out as we get to saturday. then, boy, it just could be a dry day after day, probably well into the middle of the month. so hopefully things which gears we don't want to get too far behind in our rainfall. so hopefully things will pick up as we get toward the 15th or
