is how the first week of january is shaping up dry. yeah, dry continuing right after a beautiful new year's eve and new year's day. the umbrella will come in handy because the rain starts in the north bay overnight tonight tomorrow friday we've got rain across the entire bay area. you know what? it's light rainfall. not a big deal. and then the dry weather returns through mid-january. so we're going to be in the 60's for the most part today, few areas in the 50's and i've got a lot more coming up in weather right now. back to maine and john. all now. >> come 8 minutes while the orchestra with those in 11 and the golden gate bridge is at 20 minutes 602. and developing this morning, 5 people are dead after a violent holiday weekend in oakland. police say 3 people were killed by gunfire and another in a stabbing on new year's eve. and police say another person was shot and killed in oakland on new year's day covers. will tran is live in alameda county. we'll walk us through this violent 24 hour period.

>> with many others, rain and john in the hospital with their injuries. so horrible wave of violence throughout oakland. that's even shocking by oakland standards because this happened on new year's eve and then it went into new year's day with the latest homicide taking place as recently as 5.30, last night. let me show you the video. this was on second street near jack london square. we do know that that was near a sideshow. several people were shot. we do know that one person was killed. many others rushed to the hospital. and at last check still in the hospital with their injuries. while police investigate that crime, they were busy investigating a crime that happened a little bit earlier in the day about 10 hours earlier. in fact, when the 32 year-old man from he went to oakland to work at around 7 o'clock in the morning on 24th street. he showed up at his workplace. by the way, he's a father of 2

young kids. when someone came up to him, opened fire on him, left him for dead. oakland police investigating those 2 homicides on new year's day with 3 others on new year's eve. let me show you the video of that as well. many of them were gathered in large gatherings when shots rang out. we do know in several instances people also took themselves to the hospital. 3 people died. you talked about one person actually dying on new year's eve very early on that day from a stab wound. that person was still alive at the scene, rushed to the hospital and later died. let me show you a map of the various locations. they span a swap of oakland from west oakland, second street and 24th also near jack london square at this particular time. police officers are not releasing or they simply don't know the motives behind all of this and no suspect descriptions have been released to the public. this

comes at a horrible time because open actually was ending the year celebrating on different note that oakland actually saw the fewest number of homicides in 5 years. and then all of a sudden a wave of violence spreads throughout the city and a 24 hours. thank you so much. well, time-out, for them to police are looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a man. >> according to police, the shooting happened on camp street around 05:40pm, tuesday after that shooting, they say a man went to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wound. later died from his injuries. city officials say this was the 25th homicide for the year 2024, if you have any information you're asked to call police. a family of 6 in the south bay starting the new year without a home. their house caught on fire early wednesday morning. kron four's lindsey ford reports from mountain view about how the family is dealing with this major setback. >> the fire started at 3.20

this morning in a mountain view neighborhood outside west you know, reale the couple and their 4 children are in the home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely. >> this is severely crazy happening on new year's eve. yeah. so pretty rare. we see parents and tear. >> pieces of tile, roofing, wood and other debris lay in piles outside of this mountain view home. it went up in flames just after 03:00am on new year's day and shanker who lives across the street was awake when the fire trucks came through the neighborhood. ice could see like really bright red lights from behind. my do. >> when i stepped out, i saw like to what fire engines the street was blocked or that. >> the homeowners say the fire started inside of a trash can next to the attached garage. the flames then traveled to a fence and then up to the roof of the garage. shanker watched as fire crews cut a hole in the roof. they using some kind

of a chain saw cut a part the roof open to when the heat out. the homeowners did not wish to go on camera, but they say there is severe smoke damage inside of their home. they're able to stay at hotel tonight. thanks to a donation from the california professional firefighters union. the neighbors concern kevin quinn has lived in the neighborhood for 28 years. he lives next door to the family and says the whole neighborhood is sending them well wishes. and i spoke to we're getting e-mails and calls from people saying zipping, okay. >> so everybody's watching the homeowners say their focus right now is to work with their insurance company to fix the damage in their home. >> and looking toward a brighter new year. the cause of the fire is still under investigation in mountain view. lindsay forward to kron 4 news. >> 607. a 4.7 earthquake shook clay county last night. the quake happened around 06:30pm, about 2 miles northwest of cobb in lake county, although not in the court of the bay

warmer right now in half moon bay compared to yesterday morning, significant 7 degrees warmer oakland and 4 degrees warmer in san jose. temperatures right now that are in the 40's pretty much everywhere. a few 50's reaching into 50 right along the coastline in some communities such as bay and that a warm up very nicely this afternoon in terms of wind, the strongest wind gust i can find is the along the coastal zones get a little bit of wind kicking up. but really that's the only significant win. as the day goes on, that wind dies down a little bit more like 15 mile per hour gusts and you'll notice also they become southerly coming from the south to the north. that's a warmer direction for quite a few days. we have northerly wind and that brings the cold arctic air in. that's why we've got warm conditions right now. futurecast, here's the forecast model showing rain in our forecast. that is for friday. but a class, a bay area up into northern

california. and look snow in the sierras. so that's great news. we want to improve that snow pack. we want to get some more fresh powder and you'll notice ridging. that means we're going to stay dry for quite a while, not only through for, you know, next friday, but actually a couple of weeks. that's what we're looking at. but in the meantime, we've got get the umbrella out because in eureka is going to be very impressive rainfall through friday afternoon. so yeah, we get the rain overnight tonight into tomorrow and may 1407 inch in san francisco. so really varies a lot more in the north and the south. but rainfall right here in the bay area is not terribly impressive as much as roughly half and like i actually about a half an inch in santa rosa and about a quarter of an inch in half moon bay about the same in hayward. so it's going to be wet, but not terribly wet. just a sprinkling of rain keeping our gardens happy. so that's good news. and there's snow. you know that i

mentioned snow. of course, i mentioned snow. but how much snow? take a look at this. we're looking at maybe 2 feet of snow in some areas have maybe half a foot to the north, but then down toward lake tahoe, 2 to 3 feet of snow.aso that's great news for us. we're in for a beautiful afternoon. many areas in low 60's. here's your range. upper 50's to mid 60's but not much of a range. but hey, it's winter time. a look ahead. yes, we've got the increasing clouds overnight, maybe around midnight in the laughter that the rain start to the north bay. it spread southward. it spreads eastward and the climate prediction center gives lots of rain to the middle of the country. but right here in california, we are drier than normal for the next couple of we're in good shape. we have plenty of moisture that we've been experiencing lately. and it's really nice to have that chance to dry out right back to you. all right. let's get a look at your bridges. >> they read right now about 9 minutes traveling into the city. richmond center fell bridge as little slow and go.

>> well, rain at 2 days into 2025. now and still feeling pretty good outside. yeah, but i know kathy's been talking about a little sprinkle sprinkle vote. we needed all of that. >> because that's the question. umbrella or no umbrella. that is the question. well, at times you'll need it at times. you won't. in fact, today will be a dry day will continue that trend and you'll see some sunshine and some clouds will clear away a little bit and be more clouds coming in your direction. it won't be terribly cold but not a hot date or just seasonal. and here is a look at beautiful conditions on the peninsula and here come the clouds. you see them streaming in from the tropics heading right up to the pacific northwest. and you see a little bit of rain in seattle and portland and it starts to head to eureka. our high temperatures today range from the upper 50's to about the mid 60's with san francisco at 61 at mid 60's for oakland and san jose. so here comes the rain. eureka gets the most rain is you say it's not terribly impressive.
