continues throughout the day before the clouds are really picking up and the rain comes in starting really the pacific northwest for weekend, then through the north bay and then across the entire bay area's it had southward and eastward. this is the first friday of 2025. that will be seeing that widespread rainfall and then things will dry out and return back tward dry weather for days and days and days, even for a few weeks. so i've got all the details coming up for you. but right now it's back to rain. all right. >> your rich with fell to 10 11 and only gate 20 minutes 802, now and developing this morning, 5 people are dead after a violent holiday weekend in oakland. >> police say 3 people were killed by gunfire and another in a stabbing on new year's eve. and police say another person was shot and killed oakland on new year's day conference. will tran is live in. alameda county now will walk us through that violent 24 hour period.

>> sadly, oakland is used to violence paid even this. the wave of violence over a 24 hour span as rock that community and has shocked so many people in open because it comes at a time when people should be celebrating, not shooting people. but that's exactly what happened. in fact, the latest homicide took place at around 5.30, last night on new year's day. now, this all took place at around second street. this is near jack london square near a sideshow when shots rang out, multiple people were hit. one person actually died and at least 3 others taken to the hospital. and at last check still recovering from their injuries. so the death toll could go up and then earlier on new year's day, a 32 year-old man from richmond. he shows up to work near 24th avenue at around 7 o'clock in the morning. the father of 2 young kids, he was shot by

someone who came up to him, opened fire, left him for dead at this particular point. no arrests in any of the homicides. and then on new year's eve, of course, so many people counting down to midnight. the first homicide took place with a stabbing. this person was stabbed at the scene, rushed to the hospital still alive, but injuries so severe that this person did not survive his injuries. 2 others were shot. let me show you a map of the various locations. pretty random throughout oakland, meaning there's not one particular neighborhood. it's spread out throughout oakland, but predominantly in west oakland. in fact, one of them happened near jack london square, which, of course, has a lot of people. >> at this particular time, the oakland police department, they have their hands full. of course, they don't know or not releasing motives behind all of this, whether it was random, it was targeted or

even gang violence and to make matters worse. oakland was actually trying to celebrate the end of 2024. meaning this is no consolation to the families, obviously devastated. but what happened the 2024 saw the fewest homicides in 5 years. and oakland and all of a sudden here it goes. another wave of violence off to a very fast start in 2025. back to yeah, nobody wanted to see this news. well. all right. well, in the layup, police are looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a man. >> according to police, the shooting happened on kemper street around 05:40pm, half of the shooting. they say a man with to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. he later died from his injuries. city officials say this with the 25th homicide for 2024, if you have any information, please call police. and one person is dead and another in jail after shooting in san francisco mission district just after

midnight wednesday, police were called to solve an right near 17th. once there police found one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. the victim died at the scene. a police later located the suspect and arrested. 29 year-old jose rivera flores. this is still an ongoing information. and if you have any information, please contact police. >> a family of 6 in the south bay is beginning the new year without a home. their house caught fire early wednesday morning. a crowd was lindsay for reports from mountain view. >> about how the family is dealing with this setback. >> the fire started at 3.20 this morning in a mountain view neighborhood outside west you know, reale the couple and their 4 children were in the home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely. >> but this is severely crazy happening on new year's eve. yeah. so pretty rare. we see fire engines here. >> pieces of tile, roofing, wood and other debris lay in piles outside of this mountain view home. it went up in flames just after 03:00am on new year's day and shanker who

lives across the street was awake when the fire trucks came through the neighborhood. ice could see like really bright red lights from behind. my do. >> when i stepped out, i saw like what the fire engines the street was block do that. >> the homeowners say the fire started inside of a trash can next to the attached garage. the flames then traveled to a fence and then up to the roof of the garage. shanker watched as fire crews cut a hole in the roof. they using some kind of a chain saw to cut a part of the roof open to when the heat out. the homeowners did not wish to go on camera, but they say there is severe smoke damage inside of their home. they're able to stay at hotel tonight. thanks to a donation from the california professional firefighters union. the neighbors are concerned. that kevin quinn has lived in the neighborhood for 28 years. he lives next door to the family and says the whole neighborhood is sending them well wishes. and i spoke to we're getting

e-mails and calls from other people saying zipping, okay. >> so everybody's watching the homeowners say their focus right now is to work with their insurance company to fix the damage in their home. >> and looking toward a brighter new year. the cause of the fire is still under investigation in mountain view. lindsay forward to kron 4 news. >> 807 now and a 4.7 quake shook the area of the bay area county of lake county. the earthquake happened around 6.30 last night about 2 north 2 miles northwest of kabul, lake county, just north of napa is just outside the core of the bay area. but the quake itself was felt all the way south into napa and even san francisco. sunny hills fire department is one of just 7 in the state to receive funding from cal water. it will go towards specialized protective equipment for responding to wildfires. cal waters flushing out more than $175,000 in

grants to fire departments across the state. time now 8, 0, 8 2025. expects to be very busy year of the state capitol. governor gavin newsom and legislative leaders already talking about those goals. yeah. capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a look ahead at what you can expect. >> together, let's make this a year. we can all be proud governor gavin newsom and his wife first partner, jennifer siebel newsom delivering that message on this new year's day. it comes just days before state lawmakers are set to return to the capitol and right away. they will take part in newsom's special legislative session to allocate 25 million dollars in state funding to california attorney general rob bonta and the california department of justice. all with the goal to help fund a future lawsuit against the trump administration. as we step in a 2025 newsom not mentioning trump by name in this new year's message, but he did say no matter what challenges lie. ahead california, we will always stand strong. republicans vowing to push back against newsom. special session. they urge the

governor to work with trump. there is a better path forward and unfortunately gavin newsom continues down the same old, tired path. >> 2025 is going to be a very busy year. mcgeorge school of law at and professor chris mckay lee says in addition to newsom, special legislative session this year, legislators will also focus on introducing new bills on all kinds of topics, things from ai and social media to perennial issues like housing and homelessness, energy policies and insurance. let's get to work. thank you so much. during his welcoming remarks to lawmakers last month, assembly speaker robert reavis announced he is reducing the number of bills each assembly member can introduce from 50. >> to 35. he called on lawmakers to narrow in on the issue of affordability. our constituents. they don't fill that. the state of california is working for them. anxious about our state's cost of living. and that's why i'm calling on us. >> to consider every bill this

session through their lands. doesn't lower day-to-day costs for families. does it build more housing quickly? does it improve public services in ways that people can actually see and feel? does it help small businesses start thrive. >> on top of all that governor gavin newsom's constitutional deadline to unveil his preliminary state budget is coming up by the end of next week. the non-partisan legislative analyst's office recently released this report showing the state is facing a projected 2 billion dollar deficit in the year to come and 20 to 30 billion dollar deficit in the following years through 2029. when i asked newsom about it ahead of the new year, he responded with optimism amid data showing state tax revenues are coming in higher than expected will be submitting a balanced budget. we've had some really good revenues of the course. >> well, the last 5 months significantly by billions and billions of dollars exceeding our original estimates and expectations. so all of that is very, very good news.

it's investigating a terror attack on the iconic bourbon street in new orleans. people gathered to ring in the new year when police say a 42 year-old trump sued didn't jabar. an army veteran drove a white pickup truck into a crowd. >> killing 15 and wounding dozens more. they say he got out and fired at officers. i stand or video shows the aftermath. the killer was an american citizen. born in texas. he posted videos on social media indicated inspired by isis. now the fbi says agents are executing search warrants in new orleans and other states. law enforcement in houston shut off access to a road near one of the homes listed as a recent address of the suspected attacker. louisiana senator john kennedy says the fbi doesn't think jabar acted alone right now. >> they're in the process of trying to get see all the bad guy. also wednesday morning in las vegas, police say a tesla cyber truck exploded president-elect donald trump's

hotel. >> killing the suspect inside and wounding 7 others. president joe biden says authorities are looking into a possible connection with the new orleans attack. there's nothing to report on that score at this time. police in cities around the world have tried to protect public spaces against these vehicle attacks. the latest was less than 2 weeks ago. a driver drove into a christmas market in germany, killing 5 people in washington. i'm in a simlot back to you. while the fbi will also be provided an update on the bourbon street attack in new orleans at set for 9 this morning. pacific time going to be bringing you updated information from that. >> in the meantime, her former fbi agent rick smith says feelings of concern among the public are exactly what these attacks are trying to accomplish. stopping people from living their daily lives. he says it acts like this on a busy street should put agencies and every big city on heightened alert. >> you know, it's one of those. it's a soft target.

financial boost to many families. but others were left out and were unable to fix the mistake with the irs. well, that could be changing if you didn't receive one or more stimulus checks that you qualify for. be on the lookout at the mailbox because the irs says you might be receiving a stimulus check of up to $1400. the irs says this is part of their efforts to distribute around 2.4 billion dollars to taxpayers who failed to claim a recovery rebate credit on their 2021. tax returns as many as 1 million taxpayers are set to receive these payments. now, changing gears. if you are a small business owner or freelancer who uses payment platforms like venmo and paypal, this is for you tax reporting requirements are changing and depending on how much money you made, the irs will now require these payment companies to issue a tax form 10 99 k detailing earnings

because hundreds of thousands of f series trucks over flaw fuel >> the car manufacturing company says it's recalling more than 295,000 diesel engine trucks from their f series. they have potential fuel pump issues that could cause loss of power. the recall includes 2020, the 2022 ford super duty f 2.50, 3. 54 55, 50 am a 600 models as well as the 2021 2022. f 6.50, and 7.50, that's when your car's please listen up. ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries. the company says dealers are going update the powertrain control module software, free of charge. >> 21 states increase their minimum wage on january first, including california, california's minimum wage will increase to 16 50 per hour in 2025. so we're officially on

there is no credible threats in their cities, the public is advised to stay vigilant. >> new year's celebrations turned into terror in new orleans as a truck plowed into people on the famed bourbon street killing at least 15 people, injuring at least 30 the city of new orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack. the fbi is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism. investigators recovered and islamic state group flag and said the truck driver with a u.s. citizen from texas. he was killed in a shootout with police. 3 of our officers. >> engage the scare roast. who shot at them? 3 of the officers returned fire. those officers did not run in fear. new orleans police chief anne kirkpatrick, who also used to be oakland's police chief, says the officers are recovering. the fbi believes the driver did not act alone. meantime, back in the bay area. >> it's scary. >> the news of the attack is

>> residents in the east bay starting off the new year with more sideshows. this is video of about 300 people participating in a sideshow in the early yesterday morning around one a and on all men, almeida street. the side show then moved to oakland on market street where participants set off fireworks. oakland police say as soon as they arrived, sus and spectators ran away. >> and you know what, police they need your help to try to find these 2 women who they say stole a wallet from a car last month. police say the women took the wallet and cell phone from a victim's car while they were parked visiting a loved one at the cemetery. the suspected thieves used a stolen cars and made lots of purchases of areas, gilroy businesses. if you recognize please call police. and if remember richmond, they were arrested in calaveras county over the weekend for allegedly stealing from an illegal large-scale marijuana growing else. calaveras county sheriff's office says the bus led deputies to the group with several 55 gallon trash bags filled with marijuana. they

found it was likely stolen because it was recently cut and they have burglary tools on them. deputies also found the shed where the legal weed was stolen from and they found nearly 800 plants valued at over $350,000. >> you may have gotten a text from fast track saying you owe them money because you recently used a toll will ignore it because fast tracked says the message. it's a scam in the text you're told to pay up in order to avoid excess of the late fees and potential legal action. the real fast track says it would never text you about billing issues. baby food labels across the nation now have to show levels of lead and mercury in their products. thanks to a new california law, baby food manufacturers are now required to test their products monthly for heavy metals and disclose the results. it may take time for the new label products to hit store shelves. i was inspired by 2021 congressional investigation that found
