9:14 am
>> well, the sun has risen absolutely beautiful day with some blue skies and some clouds. it will be dry today, but don't put the umbrella away. not quite yet because overnight some raindrops will start to fall first in the north bay and then heading right to the bay area. so the entire bay area will see light rainfall tomorrow. here's a big fetch of subtropical moisture heading up so far to the pacific northwest. seattle, portland, eureka. but this will start to sag
9:15 am
southward. so we will see some rain and you will need your rain. main gear pretty soon in the meantime, heading out the door, it's 8 degrees warmer in concord right now than it was yesterday. plus, 7 in oakland. and it's going to be a beautiful day with temperatures right now in the 40's and 50's and here's the subtropical moisture coming in. it heads in the wee hours of the morning and over in the north bay is head southward across the entire bay area with snow in the sierra fresh snow should be absolutely beautiful. then high pressure builds in. that means settle in for some dry weather, dry conditions all the way through the end of the week into next week. so this is going to be a dry spell for us in terms of precipitation. a lot in eureka, but not much in san francisco. and as we head toward the entire bay area is really looking at not a lot of rain, maybe a half an inch in santa rosa and maybe half an inch in santa cruz mountains. but other than that, it's really not too terribly
9:16 am
impressive. so we've got more details coming up in weather. but right now back to rain. >> it's a pretty easy drive across the bay bridge this morning from the maze to fremont street. it's only taking you 8 minutes. it's been not so bad back to work day for a lot of us. i know yesterday we had the day off. maybe a couple of people are still staying at home. only 7 minutes across the richmond center fell nevada to the tolls on the golden gate. >> that will take you 23 minutes. >> well, it's time winners and losers with our financial expert rob black. >> rob, i haven't seen you since last year. how you've >> it's been a very good start of the new year. last year was a great new year for 2020 for 2023. both saw stock market 20%. plus questions can 2025. repeat. nasdaq was up 29% last year. that's amazing investment. if you invested in your 401 k you probably did
9:17 am
pretty well. so we're looking to 2025 to repeat on productivity and earnings from corporate america tie towards ai so that those are some of the big stories to look forward a lot of people are excited i know a lot excited about that. >> let's also talk about the cryptocurrency we also saw surge when it comes to that, i guess it might be too late for me to invest in bitcoin right now. rob, is that right? >> okay. no >> a lot. i'm not an expert on bitcoin or digital currencies, but there's got to rick adelman. he's talking about how this is the early innings and don't look at the price. look at the year. so last year we saw it a big threshold of 100,000 hit this year. the expectation is for 200,000 bitcoin with a pro-trump already trump. that's pro bitcoin deregulation kind of market. if you wanted to invest in it and i deal i put one to 5%. one percent on conservative. everyone's down some 5% of your aggressive.
9:18 am
you can allocate its bitcoin etf, just like with blackrock. its an exchange-traded fund has very low fees. you don't have to donate. you don't have to have the password. you don't have to spend it. you could just see it as an asset similar to gold. that's it doesn't make profits, but it is. it is currently an asset for sure. you got me convinced, ok? he didn't have to say much there with that. >> okay. let's talk about alcohol, not not a lot of the younger people are drinking alcohol anymore like they were about 20 years ago or so. >> yeah, and i pretty little too january december 31st. so now it's dry january. you the stocks that were alcohol related, like anheuser busch, recession proof not so much people under 35. only 62% drink. 22 you. 20 years ago, people under 35 72%. that's big drop of 10 percentage points. 2023 was the first plane ever in alcohol consumption. united states beer was down 4.4% consumption last year, wind down 8%
9:19 am
spirits down. 3.9%. so companies like the idea which owns johnnie walker and guinness their stock was down 13%. constellation brands. stock was down 7% and either bush was down. 22% so the younger generation of can't afford it or they think it's on the healthy baby. social media's influence them. but they're keeping us last night still a large percentage of our population. but january dry, january bad time for the stocks that they don't like seeing that consumption levels drop. >> well, in addition to that, we're talking about waymo and how a lot of people took autonomous rise this year last year. it's addictive. it's. >> fantastic. being uber that doesn't have a driver cause. it feels private. so waymo had big year last year. the dominator robo taxis. you saw companies gm, they dropped out of the race crews to burst, dropped out of the race. so
9:20 am
the waymo which is owned by google slash alphabet. they have a great driverless future. it's fine. got a lot of mainstream adoption last year. it's 123 billion dollar industry for ride sharing that's gonna grow into 42430 billion dollars by the year 2020 2032. so they have the market kind themselves kind of amazon's got a product names. that's a robo-taxi. and then testers got road tax and testers kind of obviously benefit from deregulation. but there. it could be doing it because clearly waymo's doing it. but this is big, big year for driverless technology. 150,000 rides a week and temperatures going al a 5 million total trips and robo taxis last year, expanding into tokyo and atlanta and austin this year. right now, they're just in phoenix have in la. but it's pretty cool living in that area because i
9:21 am
can tell my relatives like look what i did. and i got video and they're just it blows their mind and we get used to it. they're fun to see they're safe and they're doing a great job. yes, also influencers, rob. >> taken waymo. they were from out of the state. and so just he was amazing to them. but, you know, we stand and drive around every day in the city. >> let's talk about how the rich are getting richer and, you know, for the rest of us right next for the rest of us. he said it well, 500 of the richest people in the their average wealth went up about 15 trillion dollars last year, not the average, but that 1.5 trillion total. the total of the 500 richest people. the world collectively worth over 10 trillion dollars. so the rich are getting richer. and, you know, when stock patel the, you know, the rich or invest in the stock market can exposure in that area? so play max, out your 401 k this year and you 2 should get richer and over time. not guaranteed any given year, but over time,
9:22 am
it's done well for me. had some well for most americans. >> all right, rob, that was robbed the raw black show. you can find him on his handles twitter. it. thank you so much for joining us this morning. and we'll
9:23 am
9:24 am
>> tonight, 24 for your help. this i may be the latest tool to help doctors identify people at risk of a serious heart condition even before the symptoms would appear. the ai tool was developed by scientists in the uk. scientists say the algorithm was made using electronic health records from over 2 million people. i use that data to calculate the risk of a stroke patients who were
9:25 am
found at a high risk were given portable ecg devices to monitor them their heart rhythm for multiple weeks. if successful researchers hope to expand the trial nationwide. dietitians say eliminating food groups like carbs and fat is a serious, dire restriction that's likely hard to keep in the long run instead of cutting foods out. they just recommend adding healthier foods to your diet. they also say to aim for a sustainable lifestyle change that will promote overall well-being. finally exercising, obviously great too. but going from a no exercise to daily workout routine is like going to fall through in the long run. experts recommend ditching the all or nothing mindset in taking a gradual approach. instead of stressing yourself out. on the business front, a looming tiktok ban could impact millions of small businesses that use the popular app. >> to talk to ben around only since 2016 small biz owners use the platform in a variety
9:26 am
of ways to grow a customer bays, advertising marketing and they sell goods directly from the site going into talks, only estimate small businesses on tiktok lose more than 1 billion dollars in revenue in a single month. if the ban goes into effect. so i have a problem morning news. the niners are gonna have a new quarterback know for this season's final sunday. ross has the details coming up.
9:27 am
9:28 am
>> all right. welcome back to the kron. morning news. a new year new start. it feels good. i always love january because everything feels so fresh, you
9:29 am
know, and then you get to february. you're like out say most the weather is supposed to not the same ol. same. a little wet for has come to little wet but not frightful. that's the good news. it's going to be a lovely day today. it's dry. we'll see some clouds. but you know what? things will change overnight. there's rain in the forecast. light rain starting in the north bay. >> spreading across the entire bay area. this image of the golden gate bridge. quite interesting. you can see on the far edge of your screen, their leaves blowing in the wind. very light breeze going on. you look up in the sky. you see blue skies and some high thin ice crystal clouds. so this series clouds look to the far right of your screen and there is the flag at half-mast in honor of president jimmy carter. so we've got a lot going on in that precipitation outlook of, yes, we're going to see some rain tomorrow, but it will be dry, drier than normal for the next number of days, all the way through january. 11th, at least certainly through mid-january. i think we have dry conditions with the one
9:30 am
exception. yes, clear today, dry today, increasing clouds and then you get that rain starting overnight. first in the north bay was raindrops fall and then a front moves across the entire bay area. and we see widespread rainfall, light rain but still rain nevertheless, and as much as half an inch in santa rosa and a lot less most other spots of a dry weather returns through mid-january. back to you. >> thank you for that. let's get a look at your morning commute. 8 minutes on the bay bridge while you're rich with summer feels that 7 and the golden gate bridge a 20 minute ride. our hearts and prayers continue to go out to the victims. families. and the city of new orleans were resilient. and as i stated on yesterday, my focus in terms of a priority has been on our victims. the investigation is still active and absolutely under the fbi's leadership.
