>> it's a new year and it's going to be a busy year here at the california state capitol capital tom wallace all have a preview of what we can expect from the legislature and the governor. >> is it 10? it's game week. breaking news. >> good morning, everyone. we're on top of breaking news out of san francisco right now. there's heavy police presence in the bernal heights neighborhood. you're taking a live look at the area near allegheny farmers market off of alameda boulevard. you can see a road shut down with red tape and officers investigating the scene here. we're asking san francisco police. what exactly is going on. officers told her photographer on scene that they will be providing an update on the situation here shortly. we'll be keeping you updated as we learn more. well, it's 10 o'clock on second day of 2025, hopefully it has been a smooth year for you so far. i know the

forecast hasn't been too bad. although kathy, tomorrow we do have a switch up. >> absolutely. we're starting out with beautiful conditions this morning. clear skies, some clouds in some areas. and, you know, you're going to think is she really going to talk about rain? how could that be? it's so beautiful. i do what my umbrella anymore. but you'll be happy if you have it ready because we're going to see rain drops coming overnight tonight, starting in the north bay and spreading southward across the bay area. it's going to be a lovely stretch of weather. few raindrops. probably a good thing. but then you can put that umbrella away because we're in for some dry conditions starting this weekend and continuing on into next week. temperatures out the door right now. 40's and 50's is not going to be a big, big change in temperatures that compared to yesterday is pretty warm. 7 degrees warmer in santa rosa. so here are your headlines. dry weather continues today. but tonight there's a fly in the ointment rain start to the north bay around midnight or so

stretching southward. the first friday of 2025. widespread light rainfall. and then we dry it out. and i've got the full forecast coming up in just a bit right now. back to john. appreciate it. capped well developing this morning. 5 people are dead after a violent holiday weekend in oakland. >> police say 3 people were killed by gunfire and another in a stabbing on new year's eve. and then officers say another person was shot and killed in oakland on new year's day. kron four's will tran is the alameda county with the details. >> sadly, oakland is used to violence paid even this the wave of violence over a 24 hour span as rock that community and has shocked so many people in open because it comes at a time when people should be celebrating, not shooting people. but that's exactly what happened. in fact, the latest homicide took place at around 5.30, last night on new year's day. now, this all took place at around second street. this is near jack london square near a

sideshow when shots rang out, multiple people were hit. one person actually died. at least 3 others taken to the hospital. and at last check still recovering from their injuries. so the death toll could go up and then earlier on new year's day, a 32 year-old man from richmond. he shows up to work near 24th avenue at around 7 o'clock in the morning. the father of 2 young kids, he was shot by someone who came up to him, opened fire, left him for dead at this particular point. no arrests in any of the homicides and then on new year's eve, of course, so many people counting down to rst homicide took place with a stabbing. this person was stabbed at the scene, rushed to the hospital still alive, but injuries so severe that this person did not survive his injuries. 2 others were shot. let me show you a map of the various

locations. pretty random throughout oakland, meaning there's not one particular neighborhood. it's spread out throughout oakland, but predominantly in west oakland. in fact, one of them happened near jack london square, which, of course, has a lot of people. >> at this particular time, the oakland police department, they have their hands full. of course, they don't know or not releasing motives behind all of this, whether it was random, it was targeted or even gang violence and to make matters worse. oakland was actually trying to celebrate the end of 2024. meaning this is no consolation to the families, obviously devastated by what happened. the 2024 saw the fewest homicides in 5 years. and oakland and all of a sudden here it goes. another wave of violence off to a very fast start in 2025. thanks so much. well, in vallejo, police

are looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a man. >> according to officers, the shooting happened on kemper street around 05:40pm, tuesday after the shooting. they say a man went to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. he later died from his injuries. city officials say this was the 25th homicide for the year. anyone in for with information is asked to call police. well, one person is dead and another is in jail after a shooting in san francisco's mission district just after midnight on wednesday, police were called to south van ness near 17th street. once there officers found one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. the victim died at the scene. police later located the suspect and arrested. 29 year-old jose riviera flores. this is still an ongoing investigation. anyone with information is asked to contact police. well, a family of 6 in the south bay is beginning the new year without a home. their house caught fire early wednesday morning.

kron four's lindsey ford reports from mountain view about to have the family is dealing with the setback. >> the fire started at 3.20 this morning in a mountain view neighborhood outside west you know, reale the couple and their 4 children are in the home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely. >> but this is severely crazy happening on new year's eve. yeah. so pretty rare. we see parents tear. >> pieces of tile, roofing, wood and other debris lay in piles outside of this mountain view home. it went up in flames just after 03:00am on new year's day and shanker who lives across the street was awake when the fire trucks came through the neighborhood. ice could see like really bright red lights from behind. my do. >> when i stepped out, i saw like to what fire engines the street was blocked or that. >> the homeowners say the fire started inside of a trash can next to the attached garage. the flames then traveled to a fence and then up to the roof

of the garage. shanker watched as fire crews cut a hole in the roof. they using some kind of a chain saw to cut a part the roof open to when the heat out. the homeowners did not wish to go on camera, but they say there is severe smoke damage inside of their home. they're able to stay at hotel tonight. thanks to a donation from the california professional firefighters union. the neighbors are concerned kevin quinn has lived in the neighborhood for 28 years. he lives next door to the family and says the whole neighborhood is sending them well wishes. and i spoke to we're getting e-mails and calls people saying zipping, okay. >> so everybody's watching the homeowners say their focus right now is to work with their insurance company to fix the damage in their home. >> and looking toward a brighter new year. the cause of the fire is still under investigation in mountain view. lindsay forward to kron 4 news. >> 10, 0, 7, sonny bill's fire department is just one of 7

of 2025 blue skies clouds. >> mild temperatures kind of dreamy, hot. well, it's not going to last of the dream will last, but will be kind of different than it is today because overnight tonight, even as a fun that's of moisture comes up and the hits rain and sat in seattle and portland rica that rain will stretch down to the bay area. it arrives in the north bay overnight tonight into tomorrow. so outside right now, if you're heading outside, where now warming up into the 50's and even the

60's 61 degrees in half moon bay. 51 for sausalito 50 in pittsburgh. so the forecast models show this precipitation heading in. and if you look here, boom, we stop right there. it's overnight before dawn, the rain falls across the north bay and then what happens at dawn and beyond. boom. there it is. again, rain right across the entire bay area stretching up through northern california and stretching into the sierra in the form snowfall. we get some snowflakes, fresh powder for skiers. and we get to add a little bit to our snow pack, which is terrific. and then boom, it's gone. this christmas light rain goes quickly and all of we dry it out and we stay dry for the entire weekend. and then for the work week and then for the next weekend and beyond that, it is dry, a dry forecast. so future rain totals are not impressive. in san francisco, 14, 100's of an inch in the north bay about a half an inch. and you know what? that

actually is enough to cause rises in the creeks and streams of the north bay. everywhere else. not terribly impressive. forecast highs today mainly in the 50's and 60's low 60's at that. so here's the outlook. dry weather now overnight tonight into tomorrow we get the rainfall. it's soggy friday and then we turn things around our outlook for the next 6 to 10 days. and then in january, 11th dry, drier than normal temperatures. so we've got quite a spell of weather ahead. you'll get a chance to dry out john. >> our hearts and prayers continue to go out to the victims. families. and the city of new orleans were resilient. and as i stated on yesterday, my focus in terms of a priority has been on our victims. the investigation is still active and absolutely under the fbi's leadership. >> emotional words coming from new orleans. mayor latoya

cantrell. just a day after 15 people were killed during an attack on the new orleans french quarter new year's day. dozens of other people were also hurt. this morning, the fbi gave an update saying they believe the suspected attacker acted alone in response. mayor cantrell says bourbon street will be reopened today ahead of the sugar bowl. officials also say the city will see an increase in federal law enforcement presence for mardi gras and today's bowl game. here at home. governor newsom says the state threat assessment center is on high alert. kron four's gayle ong has that story. >> we checked in with local law enforcement. we heard back from a san francisco oakland and san jose police who are all monitoring the tragic situation in new orleans and all say while there is no credible threats in their cities, the public is advised to stay vigilant. >> new year's celebrations turned into terror in new orleans as a truck plowed into people on the famed bourbon

street killing at least 15 people, injuring at least 30 the city of new orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack. the fbi is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism. investigators recovered and islamic state group flag and said the truck driver with a u.s. citizen from texas. he was killed in a shootout with police. 3 of our officers. >> engage this care roast. who shot at them? 3 of the officers returned fire. those officers did not run in fear. new orleans police chief anne kirkpatrick, who also used to be oakland's police chief, says the officers are recovering. the fbi believes the driver did not act alone. meantime, back in the bay area. >> it's scary. >> the news of the attack is on people's minds like cody larkin in many boston. it's really scary. and it's at 7. we. >> live in a place where this is something that we have to think about. honestly, one of the first that's a had was when i was just how many people are out celebrating now, it just makes me more

anxious about crowds just now going through any type of really crowded space. i'm thinking of days is going to be targeted because there's a lot of people here. it's not it's not going to governor gavin newsom's office released a statement in response to the new orleans attack reads in part, quote, the state threat assessment center is on heightened alert closely, coordinating and sharing information with partner law enforcement agencies and a governor gavin newsom adds while there is. >> are no credible threats directed at california events. >> cal oes urges all californians to remain vigilant while attending public events our local law enforcement agencies echoing the governor's remarks and are asking the public to always report any suspicious activity in the newsroom. gayle ong kron, 4 news. >> warmer at the aig agent. rick smith says feelings of concern among the public are exactly what these attacks trying to accomplish, stopping people from living their daily lives. he says it acts like this on a busy street should put agencies in every big city on heightened alert.

>> you know, it's one of those. it's a soft target. street bourbon street in new orleans. and it's a you know, it's difficult to prevent a terrorist attack on a soft target like that. you can you can strengthen security different, you know, embassies military installations. street is really difficult. >> as for the suspect, smith says the fbi is now looking and finding out who else may have been working with him and how he got radicalized in the first place. this year. the irs is implementing few new rules. shannon behnken is here to give us the breakdown. >> stimulus checks during the pandemic offered a much needed financial boost to many families. but others were left out and were unable to fix the mistake with the irs. well, that could be changing if you didn't receive one or more stimulus checks that you qualify for. be on the lookout

at the mailbox because the irs says you might be receiving a stimulus check of up to $1400. the irs says this is part of their efforts to distribute around 2.4 billion dollars to taxpayers who failed to claim a recovery rebate credit on their 2021. tax returns as many as 1 million taxpayers are set to receive these payments. now, changing gears. if you are a small business owner or freelancer who uses payment platforms like venmo and paypal, this is for you tax reporting requirements are changing and depending on how much money you made, the irs will now require these payment companies to issue a tax form 10 99 k detailing earnings income thresholds will then gradually decrease over the next few years for the 2024 tax year, the irs will require businesses to report income from third-party payment apps

>> happening now, ford recalls hundreds of thousands of f series trucks over flawed fuel. pups. the car manufacturing company saying its recall that more 100 more than 295,000 diesel engine trucks from its f series line with potential fuel pump issues could cause a loss of power. the recall includes 2020 to 2022. ford super duty f 2 50's 3 50's for 50's 5, 5600 models as well as 2021 to 2022. f 6.50, and 7.50, models. ford is not aware of

latest. >> videos captured the horrific moments as the clock struck midnight. exactly. it will win that everything went off. that's when the big was exactly at 12 was deputy. >> and then i knew it was bad because just by to my house with at the old jealousy windows 8 rather, and i've never had that before. i looked in and people screaming stuffing. everybody was everywhere. >> officials say 2 women were dead on arrival and more than 20 were taken to the hospital in critical condition. vice as neighbors quickly assisted alcohol wipes and water bottles were seen littered across the streets. >> honestly, looked like good. the injuries looked like it was in a war zone. the first ambulance pulled in. it wasn't just for 6 patients. it was. >> 5 and then 10 and then 15 and then early estimates were at least 20 patients and all very, very severely injured from critical burns pleading

for help surrounding initial ambulance. he says it's standard for ems to set up triage for a mass casualty incidents. what was >> significant about this event is there were just so many in the red category of the 21. >> patients transported to hospitals. most of them were consider redder critical homes and cars across the street damaged. windows blown out. one woman took us inside of her home to show us her cracked ceiling and said all of the photos fall to the ground. a 12 year-old told me her friend lives at that house and was calling out for her name for help saying she couldn't feel her leg. she hasn't received an update sense. governor green says another patient is on life support, donating their organs and he's worried for another child who is also in critical condition over half of the people that are in the hospital probably going to have vice left transforming injuries with burns disability. there will be limits last they

>> you know, they got to stop. this is not a this is actually a bomb and it becomes a war zone with what you're looking at behind me is a war zone. >> 10 34 now gilroy. police are asking for the public's help in identifying these 2 women who they say stole a wallet from a car last month. police say the women, the woman took the wallet and a cellphone from the victim's car while they were parked visiting a loved one at a cemetery. the suspected thieves used the stolen credit cards to make purchases at various businesses in gilroy. if you recognize this woman, please call police. a group of men from richmond was arrested in calaveras county over the weekend for allegedly stealing from an illegal large-scale marijuana growing house. the calaveras county sheriff's office says the bus led deputies to the group with several 55 gallon trash bags filled with marijuana. they found it was likely stolen given that it was recently cut and the burglary tools were

found. deputies also found the shed where the illegal grow was happening and they found nearly 800 plants valued over $315,000. now for bay area football head coach kyle shanahan announced the season's officially over for forty-niners quarterback brock purdy, which means he'll miss the season finale game against the arizona cardinals due to his right elbow contusion suffered on monday night's game kron four's. ben ross has the details. start at the pro level with the forty-niners getting ready for their final game of the season at arizona on sunday. the season to forget for kyle shanahan and company a year after making it to the super bowl. the niners are just 6.10. they've battled the injury bug all season long. so why should this last week be any different? our erin wilson explains. >> it is official. brock purdy season has come to an end. he will not be participating in the week. 18 matchup. this is all due to elbow contusion
