nesbitt was at the scene today where family members talked about what they believed happened. >> san francisco police say today's shooting was an isolated incident and there's no threat to the public. the father, the man who was killed says his son shot himself after shooting 2 others had to that. anthony thomas was in tears while police investigated the home where he says his son, antoine thomas, was shot and killed according to thomas, the 24 year-old shot himself after shooting his one and a half year old son and the child's mother. is >> for for some strange i i i i didn't i didn't get a chance to make it here. time. stop it. now he's gone. >> police were called to the residence on tompkins avenue. san francisco just after 08:00am thursday for reports of a shooting responding. officers found a man and woman injured. the man died at the scene and the woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. a toddler connected to the

>> thank you, rob. about 2 hours after that shooting, another shooting, it was in the city's soma neighborhood. 3 people were injured. there have been about 10 o'clock this morning on bryant street between 6th and 7th. police say they later arrested a woman on high street about 5 minutes away. no word yet on the victim's condition. temperatures goes incoming mayor daniel lurie has created a new position in his administration. it's called the chief of public safety mayor elect named former sfpd commander paul. yep. to the new position lori's office says the safety chiefs primary focus will be on neighborhood safety, but will also address street behavior, emergency preparedness and response. >> you know, sleeves gets worked. court date departments. you know, start with the fentanyl crisis and get moving on that. is just possible terror first responders. fully staffed for

the departments leverage on those resources and identify the community's needs. and you know, it's good see that, say that were proper. >> san francisco had 33 homicides in 2024, which is down 34% compared to the prior year. police chief bill scott has recently said san francisco is already one of the safest big cities in the country. >> oakland seeing a wave of violence at the start of the new year tonight, we are learning that 2 people were killed in shootings yesterday. that makes a total of 5 people dead in separate incidents between new year's eve and new year's day. the most recent shooting it happened about 6 o'clock last night on 65th avenue. the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died earlier in the day. police say a 32 year-old father showed up to work on 24th avenue and was shot and killed. this comes just a day after 3 people were killed. 2

of those victims in shootings, the other victim in the stabbing. no arrests have been made in any of the incidents. now at 6, 2, people are dead, at least 18 injured after a plane crashed into a building in fullerton in southern california are looking at video of the moment here when it crashed. happened about 2 o'clock this afternoon next to the fullerton municipal airport. you can see big hole in the building's roof. crews worked to put out the fire that was caused by the crash. not clear what caused that plane to crash in the first place. and we will update story on air and online as we learn more information. as the days get colder. the last thing you might want to hear is that it's going to cost more to heat your home right? >> join the club. but as kron four's dan kerman reports, that is exactly what pg e customers are facing. now that we're in the new year. >> the cost of using gas in your home is going up this month. pg e says expect to pay

injuring dozens. >> authorities say the 42 year-old driver who was an army veteran from texas, went on social media hours before this saying he was inspired by the islamic state group in expressed a desire to kill. this was an act of terrorism. it was premeditated and evil act. the fbi says the driver was 100% inspired by isis. police say guns and explosives were found in the area. the driver was killed during a shootout with police. bourbon street is back open tonight with yellow blockades, local police and heavily armed homeland security officers. earlier today we spoke with former fbi agent rick smith. he talked about the attack in new orleans and whether he thought the bay-area was ready to respond to a similar situation. >> the authorities in san francisco are used to these big demonstrations. these big events and they're very much a

>> now at 6, a pregnant woman killed on new year's day after a head-on crash in gilroy. it happened just after 6.30, last night on leaves lee road near new avenue to chp says a man speeding when he veered into another lane and crashed head-on into the car that the pregnant woman was in. officers believe alcohol may be a factor. they're asking anyone with info or dash cam video of the crash to give them a call. >> tonight we are learning the name of the woman who was hit and .illed on san francisco's great highway. police have identified her as 68 year-old challen. melissa lay. the crash happened last week. a new low, a street. police say that the driver is cooperating with authorities, according to a gofundme page set up by her

daughter, les suffered from dementia and would wander out of her house on to the great highway. the area where the crash happened is set to shut down after voters approved measure k in november. >> the south bay, there's a new effort underway to remove problematic homeless encampments and all the mess here. this is especially along waterways. they're concerned about cut force. charles clifford reports. >> the santa clara valley water district manages 300 out of 800 miles of waterways, creeks and streams across the valley. starting today, they're launching a new effort to clean up some of the most troublesome homeless encampments. the santa clara valley water district estimates that about 700 people are living in encampments on district property starting january second, the district is going to put each of those camps into either a high or low priority category. they're also launching an educational campaign to let people know where they stand. camps that have a small footprint about 12 foot by 12 foot and are

creating an environmental or safety hazard and don't cause any access or operational problem for the water district will be considered low priority. those people will be allowed to stay in their camps until they find a place to move to camps that are obstructing access to flood protection or water facilities that pose a safety risk to district staff or the public or are creating an environmental hazard will be considered high priority. the district says they will try to work with those people to improve the conditions of their camp to make them low priority. but if improvements aren't made, the district could eventually move in and remove the camp. the idea is to educate the public first and only remove a camp when it's absolutely necessary. >> we don't want to nor do we have the ability to just go out and sweet pollen count. it's everywhere. we want to encourage good behavior so that we don't have to at the very many encampments. and but but it's to the valley. water will take action when we need to to to to remedy the most

egregious environmental and safety. and that if the decision is made to remove a camp, the district says they will provide 72 hours notice before the cleanup work begins. >> they will also try to find housing or shelter for those impacted and try to find storage space for any personal belongings. but for now in the south bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> all right. let's take a peek outside over san francisco. beautiful shot of the city and be careful at the beaches. yeah, lawrence, here to bring us up to speed. yeah, it's been rough on during winter. we've had these large storms out over the middle of the civic and they've been generated some big-time waves and i think we're see another round of some large waves. dangerous waves moving along the coastline. as we've got yet another powerful storm rolling in across the pacific. that storm likely bring some rain to bay area right now. what a beautiful night we've got outside looking down from our mount tam cam looking good out there. 1st, half of the night should be plenty dry. enjoy. get out there now fun. but after that, things change the storm system all the way for northern california, bringing the rain really toward erie. can crescent city

right now, but it's going to be sagging south throughout the night tonight. rain is going to picking up early tomorrow morning for 5 o'clock in the morning. starting to see that moving in the north bay and then kind of city across the bay area. looks like right around the commute time. if you have to one, those folks headed back toward work. but right now you see that big area of low pressure spinning off the coastline of these storms than wrapping up on the middle of the pacific. and as those winds blow over the open waters and what we call the faction, that is they blow across. they can generate some large. well, some now we're talking about some big-time swells, maybe 15, maybe 25 feet moving in along the coastline for tomorrow. we're gonna see those wave really kind of building into the weekend as well. be careful. even surface going to be extra careful, rip tides, going to be running very strong. of course, a lot of the surfers out of mavericks have been enjoying those larger waves rolling along the coastline. all right. here comes that storm system as we head in toward early on friday morning. there's you. commute 08:00am. you see that rain pockets light to moderate amounts of rain rolling in across the bay area. kind of moving right through about the middle of the day sagging in the south by as we south as we

head toward about noon and then moving out of town in the afternoon, then that maybe it we may not see any rain for quite a while. after that, we're going to really dry things out. tomorrow, if you're headed out about bring that umbrella with you in a light jacket is going to be cool out there. temperatures going to be the 50's in the san francisco say with oakland expect some rain more scattered light showers in the parts of the south bay. but that may be it for the rain. will talk more about that coming up in just a little bit. all right, lawrence, we've got some good news to report on california's snowpack, new measurements for the state department of water resources show that it's slightly above average for this time of year. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> well, just take a look at all of the snow at elevations, 6800 feet. it's a site. researchers with the california department of water resources say they want to see, but they remind us that this is just the beginning of the season and they make clear we need way more where this came from. if you're looking at the california department of water resources for snow survey of 2025.

>> the results show in california snowpack stands at 110% of average for this time of year. and 39% of average of where we should be by april. first, i feel pretty good for today and you're icing as the california department of water resources, snow surveys and water supply forecast. a manager he helped facilitate the measurements here at the phillips station upper his results, the snow water content in this area stands at 9 inches and the snow depths 10 to 24 inches. that's significant because the depth of the snow tells us how deep it well, the snow water content tells us how much water it contains water that will eventually flow to reservoirs, agricultural areas and your faucet. so far this season. rice and says things are looking promising thanks to mother nature. we have had a good series of storms that have got is a good portion of the way. but he notes that really applies just to the northern sierra region. in fact, this data from the state shows the northern sierra snowpack is more than 160% of average for this time of year.

but the central sierra is much less at 94%. and the southern sierra is even worse at 75%. southern california, which doesn't have as many mountains there. they're very dry. >> so we do need more storms regardless to fill our reservoirs and build our snow pack for that april. first date. >> all of it coming after governor gavin newsome made a stop to this very area last spring. his message then take a deep breath this year. but don't quadruple not a time in your shower. it was. then he unveiled this plan that want to connect natural waterways with manmade storage, all in hopes of capturing more water before it goes to the ocean. today, though, the focus here is on the months ahead. months rising says will be key for california's snowpack each we're expecting to increase. >> and every day that we don't get something, our numbers going to drop it snow pack is a good chunk of our water supply. so we'd like healthy snow. >> and the california department of water resources will continue to conduct snow
