san francisco police investigating 2 shootings. one of them resulted in a man being killed and a woman and a toddler hurt kron four's. rob nesbitt spoke with family members as we talked about what they think happened. san francisco police say today's shooting was an isolated incident and there's no threat to the public. >> the father, the man who was killed says his son shot himself after shooting 2 others had to grow to after that. anthony thomas was in tears while police investigated the home where he says his son, antoine thomas, was shot and killed according to thomas, the 24 year-old shot himself after shooting his one and a half year old son and the child's mother to his >> for for some strange i i i i didn't i didn't get a chance to make it here. time. stop it. now he's gone. >> police were called to the residence on tompkins avenue. san francisco just after 08:00am thursday for reports of a shooting responding. officers found a man and woman

injured. the man died at the scene and the woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. a toddler connected to the shooting in bernal heights was also taken to the hospital. >> poplar suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to a local hospital. injuries are non life threatening at this time? and it was possibly related to the incident that occurred here on the 1000 block of tompkins avenue. police say the shooting was an isolated incident and were on scene for several hours collecting evidence. >> though the relationship between the man woman and toddler were not confirmed by police. the man's father says his son was dealing with bullying prior to the shooting and for most of his life, i guess you could take it. you were telling me about a lot of bullying incidents. >> so, john, the bullies out you you're going to get your day one day. above the 2 who bully bully the people who who is not of this of the valdez. >> they they should and shouldn't do that. if you or anyone, you know, is struggling with suicidal thoughts, you're encouraged to

call the national suicide prevention lifeline at 9, 8, 8, reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> well, about 2 hours after that incident, another shooting broke out and hurting 3 people in soma. it happened around 10 yesterday morning on bryant between 6 and 7 street near san francisco. police say they later arrested a woman on high street about 5 minutes away. we don't have any word yet on the victim's condition. and san francisco's incoming mayor daniel lurie has created a new role in his administration, is called the chief of public safety. mayor, let naming former sfpd commander paul. yep. to that new position lori's office says the safety chiefs primary focus. it's going to be a neiohborhood safety street behavior, emergency preparedness and response. >> you know, we're all of sleeves gets worked coordinate departments. you know, start with the fentanyl crisis and get moving on that. just possible terror first responders. fully staffed for

the departments leveraging those resources and identify the community's needs. and you know, it's good see that set say that were proper. >> san francisco saw 33 homicides last year. that's down. 34% compared to the year before police chief bill scott has already said the san francisco is one of the safest big cities in the country. oakland now seeing a wave of violence at the start of the new year. yesterday we learned 2 people were killed in shootings. that makes a total of 5 people dead in separate incidents between new year's eve new year's day. most recent shooting happened around 6 wednesday night on 60th avenue. thvicm taken to the hospital where they died earlier in the day. police say 32 year old father showed up to work 24 avenue. it was shot and killed. this comes just a day after 3 people were killed. 2 of those victims in the shooting, the other victim in a stabbing. no arrests have been made in any of those incidents. oakland police say if you have any information, please reach out.

meanwhile, fire crews battled a building fire in downtown oakland thursday evening. officials say this happened at 1900 rally. fire officials think it might have started in a trash chute, but the cause is still being investigated. more than 50 firefighters responding to the fire. luckily, there were no reports of any injuries. happening today opens fire chief now speaking out against the proposed closure of fire stations last month the city council recommended closing as many as 6 stations to help balance a multimillion dollar budget deficit. oakland fire fighters are launching a public education campaign. they're hoping residents are going to help them stop. the oakland city council closing 2 stations this month possibly for more in the spring. the chief is expected to talk today at a news conference at 12 15 this afternoon. developing news of royal family describing the moments the roof collapsed the night before christmas as kron four's gayle ong reports. the

investigating an attempted kidnapping. this happened around 7. 25 yesterday in the area of 9th and addison street, right near university. police say a woman was walking with son when a man and a woman in a white van pulled up next to them and tried to grab the child, the pan, the child. they were able to get away and they were not hurt. meantime, $1000 worth of welding machinery, stolen uc berkeley's richmond field station. you see police say that that happened sometime between december 27th in january. 2nd, this happened in building one. 28 approximately $30,000 worth machinery was stolen. you have any information, please contact. you see police. it's already going to cost you a little more to stay warm sch lars dan kerman reports pg e customers are facing a new rate hike in the new year. >> along with bridge tolls and bart fares, bay area residents will also see gas bills going up this month. pacific gas and electric says compared to last month, the cost of using gas in your home will go up and average of $9 a month while

>> well, apple has agreed to pay 9 5 million dollars in a lawsuit settlement after the company was accused of using siri to eavesdrop. the proposed settlement was filed earlier this week out of oakland. it resolves a five-year lawsuit that claims apple with activate the virtual assistant to record conversations, lead recordings with even happen, people did not seek to activate siri. the lawsuit claims those conversations were then shared with advertisers the program that is allowing 0 emission cars and one person in the carpool lane set to expire this year covering some sunny legislation in september. that extends the clean air act. the decal program until 2027. but that can't happen unless

>> good morning, reyna. yes, they have a new ordinance in place that allows the santa clara valley water district to go along with those waterways all in the name of public health and safety to remove unhoused people. there are dozens, if not hundreds of in living along the waterways in san jose just because they can does not mean that they will. and the reason being they realize removing them will not solve the ongoing problem of homelessness in san jose is a problem not just in san jose but across the state. so what they plan to do is do public outreach to talk to the people at the very least, to make sure that the area, as is as clean as possible. ines, as small as possible. so debris and garbage and other things do not get into the water, which, of course, supplies millions of people in san jose with drinking and food and the things that they need to

16 sailed through life together. both we both loved music and both teens died in the bedroom of their homes in riverside county. 2 separate incidents from fentanyl related overdoses. got on my knees and begged pleaded with god begging him to take me instead to please save them. you know. >> and the fact i was in that position twice. you know, it's both of my kids. it's just it's surreal to me reading parents like tammy line, gordon are at the center of a deadly opioid crisis, crushing communities across america. >> line gordon son, tyler, passed away in 2020. he took what he thought was percocet, but it contained fentanyl that tyler purchased on snapchat. 10 months later, her daughter jenna, died after unknowingly taking counterfeit xanax that investigators told line gordon was pure fentanyl. neither one of them men to end up dead. most fentanyl shipments are trafficked into the u.s. from

mexico. this poison, this drug that's coming in from the o% cartels is out there. >> and you need to be careful because if you get your hands on the wrong step, you can die. the drug enforcement administration says seizures of fentanyl, both the powder and pill form are at record levels over the past 2 years. seizures of fentanyl powder nearly doubled with federal agents taking in more than 13,000 kilograms. that's about 30,000 pounds in 2023. as for fentanyl pills, the dea seized more than 79 million of them in 2023. almost triple the amount from 2021. we're taking everything we can off the streets trying to make them safer. but these synthetic opioids, there's just an endless amount of that. just the amount of fentanyl that we find. it's it's it's unbelievable. says 23, we've recovered over 3 million fentanyl pills over 150 kilos of powder, fentanyl my family. that's enough fentanyl to kill the entire state of california. the sheriff's department overdose response task force works with the feds on prosecutions that carries a stiffer sentence. so it's a phenomenal the turn. >> we have over 27 cases in
