8:15 am
here's the area of low pressure. counter clockwise circulation right there. and the front comes right across. california can see areas of green. that's the light rain. you see the areas of yellow, even orange. and that's the heavier amounts of rain. this going to go quickly. this thing is on the move but is kicking up the surf. surf is up and is potentially life-threatening waves that are coming coming in from the storm. 18 to 25 foot waves. these are very dangerous rise. very rough surf. also the rip currents in effect so they can really pull you out to sea. there's a potential for minor flooding right along the bay and the coastline. and also we have that possibility of erosion right along the shoreline. so that is all the way through sunday morning. if you're thinking of going up to the sierra, don't do it today, especially this afternoon. and this evening, it is really tough, very difficult traveling conditions because not only is snow falling, maybe 4 to 8 inches at lake
8:16 am
level. but as snow, of course, at the higher elevations, one of the main factors is the wind gusting to 50 and the riches in the upper elevations. the forecast is for gusts to 85. so if you're going to think even think about going through the mountain passes, put it off till tomorrow. you're going to the donner pass for carson out. rose. just put it offered and then you'll have some fresh powder should be lovely. so here's the future cast. this is the forecast model showing by tonight. look at that clear across the bay area. maybe a few more showers come in. but by saturday, your saturday is dry. your sunday is dry as high pressure builds in and then the winds even turn off shore. so we're in for a dry spell. and this could last for quite a few days. even a couple of weeks. but for today, our rainfall totals, the actually the national weather service and some of the computer models are pulling back on the amounts now, m be 2 tenths of an inch in santa rosa and about the same san francisco and in vacaville concord. >> maybe a 3rd of an inch in
8:17 am
mountain view and only 3200's in boulder creek up in the santa cruz mountains. forecast highs 50's for the most part, maybe a few low 60's in the forecast shows today is the wet day and then we dry things out. and for saturday, sunday looks dry. beautiful conditions that i mentioned, the word dry. yes, because look at this. the entire west coast really from the canadian border down to the mexican border. we are in for a dry spell drier than normal conditions across the entire west coast. we'll see where the rain is. that's down. big trough there right around billings, montana heading down to colorado and then again, dry in the southeast, although miami gets a little bit warmer. so this is interesting to look at. and, you know, you can put the umbrella away, just write off because you won't need it after today for a while. and then, of course, things will turn around. but in the meantime, prepare for some dry weather. >> it is wet out there. so obviously, that's the reminder just take it a little bit
8:18 am
slower as you are making your way across our bridges, bridge looks fine. it's actually pretty empty. no dark skies above the richmond. sandra fell only 8 minutes for your crossing, nevada. the tolls from iran over the golden gate. 22 minutes. a pretty good speed. you're moving at a good clip. >> well, for your money this morning to lot of people that are looking to make smart financial decisions, all part of the new year's resolution had. joining us now is financial expert anthony o'neil, author of take a seat at the table, sharing his insights on making smart financial decisions, eliminating debt and setting goals for 2025. how do we have your audio and the need to be audio? good morning. right. you go. good morning. thank you for joining first, let's just dive right in anthony. if people are watching this and they want to improve their finances for 2025, what should we be doing? well, first off, happy new year everyone. and very first thing we got to do
8:19 am
is get a vision, get your goals written down on paper. >> a study came out recently revealed that nearly 75% of people in america do not write down their go. so that means 25% of people are and you were 33% more likely to actually win in accomplish your goals if you actually write them down. so you got to have a vision for the year 2025. got to have a vision for what you want do in life and a vision for what you want to do with your money and those who need to be can grow and there's 5 stages to winning when it comes your money. and that is having vision for your money, which is aka a budget. yes, i said to be word is a bit, you got a list all your income down on a sheet of paper list. all of your expenses. i'm talking by air dues, nails, apps that you may have. and then at the bottom of that budget. >> issue equals 0. and you need do this every single month. the moment you really have a vision for your money. that's when you go to take control of your life. you gotta win. way better than we do. what we did in 2024. because now we have it on paper. we could track it. we
8:20 am
can manage it and will succeed this year. i love that. anthony, you mentioned. >> budget. the other word we don't like to really hear dead. how do we get rid of list? you know what? we don't like budget and we don't like in mind. is consumer day. you know, literally 70% of us are living paycheck to paycheck. and that's because we're drowning in debt. so when it comes stage 2, you've got to get you got to get in line when it comes to your debt. now before we eliminate or get, here's whatever they want do. i want you to set aside at least 30 days right of income says you're going to be your net pay. so let's say if you make $3500 net put 35 gaza the same as the count. they don't want you to jump over into 3rd phase, which is eliminating your debt. and i used to actually get snowball method to get out get personally myself. it took me on average about 18 months to get out and the best mobile as simple. you line up all your debts from smallest to largest. make all of your minimum payment. maybe go back to your budget. you'll see where you can save. some take some money from there.
8:21 am
put on a small this one. 0st. once you attack the smallest, want to move it over to the next one. pay that one off moved all that money over to the next one. pay that one off. and that's what we call debt snowball. so if you get really intense, really focus on getting out of debt in 2025, your start. 2026, much better because now you have financial freedom and you also have money in account because of a decision that you made today. >> a lot of people, anthony set up those financial goals, but it's a struggle to stay consistent. so how can you have an accountability plan put in place to make sure stay on your financial goals. >> you know, one of the things that idea rated this year was he said my financial goals to 2 of my accountability partners now because i'm ashley mentors said, and these are the goals that everyone to do it job to hold me accountable. asked me every other month like, hey, how are you on these goes? i sent to my parents. and so if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, a friend, a mother, a father, someone who was close you that can hold you accountable with
8:22 am
love, not siu going out to eat. and you said that you want to start cooking at home and is set you only live once know, send it to someone who will say, you know what i thought you said you wanted to do days. i'm just going to hold you accountable about that. every wealthy millionaire friend who i know has at least 2 accountability partners that hose into division that they set forth for that particular year. if you really want to win this year, get on that budget. get out of debt. start get free journey. 2 to 3 minimum accountability, partners and or friends who will coach or hold you accountable. now, anthony, what are the best ways to start building credit in the new year? i know especially for younger people that attorney. >> yeah. yeah. you know what? here's one of things that are really do. i don't really focus on the credit score. a focus on what's going to happen. debate. >> but when we look at credit, especially in 2025, you know, we need credit to get into a good home. there's several different things that i was just people get fully fund emergency fund up, pay off all your debt. very, very, very to get rid of that consumer debt.
8:23 am
once you get rid of that consumer debt that say, if you are going for mortgage, you can do a manual underwriting situation to where they can. honestly look at how much money you have saved and we go from there. >> all right. again, amazing tips from you. financial expert anthony oneal author take a seat at the table. thank you for joining us. and hopefully we can stay on track with our new year's financial goals. >> if can't let me know, i come back and help you, although we would love that. thank you, anthony. well,

coat. the galoshes get the whole deal because yes, it is raining outside. if you're just waking up and walking outside is a wow. what's going on? >> its rain. but it will be here. that long is a big area of low pressure in the pacific. and those front moving across california, light rain for the most part, but there are some pockets of yellow, some areas where we do have little bit stronger rain at the water's edge. surf is up, but this is potentially life threatening surf. so this is high surf, high surf advisory in effect and is also marine hazards statement. the high surf could be 18 to 20 feet very large. dangerous breaking waves and also rip currents are a concern that i actually likely moderate to likely that's amazing. and rip currents can really pull you out from the shore to the scene. that's not the direction you want to go. we have possibility of coastal flooding. we've got the coastal rain erosion. so definitely good place to stay away from this weekend in terms of rainfall totals, more impressive in the northwest part of the state than it is

>> all right, live look outside this morning. this is in sausalito, as you can see, it looks like one brave to hear i don't do it you can vote might be more. they're taking it easy. if you are under that zebo, though, that's the perfect spot. is to try to hear the pitter patter on the roof. that's my lookout. he's been listening to the pitter patter all morning and she'll tell you all about it. >> oh, yeah, absolutely. it's kind of fun isn't first rain of the 2025 year. >> it's going to be a quick one that says it is rain storm is moving fairly quickly. we'll get some decent around amounts of rain but not a whole lot, which is probably good news because we have very full creeks and streams through the north bay. so we don't want to get too much rain and have a bryce too much. but this rainfall is like for the most part, but embedded in this storm are some areas of yellow and some
8:45 am
areas of orange, which might you might count encounter some pockets of moderate to heavy rain. but temperatures in store minutes of warm storm temperatures right now in the 50's. for the most part, a few areas still in the upper 40 such as santa rosa. this is considerably warmer than yesterday at this hour. 7 degrees warmer in many spots including concord and in hayward, 8 degrees warmer than yesterday. and santa's a couple degrees warmer in san francisco. so it's a warm storm. a little bit windy. the peak wind gust that i could find this afternoon around 3.15, or so as much as a 20 mile per hour gusts coming out of novato is or sea breezes, of course and 60 mile per hour gusts to the deck of a 18 in napa. >> and then it dies down as we head toward sunset and beyond. high surf advisory. that is in effect tonight through sunday morning. really not a good idea to go to the beach because these waves are hazardous potentially life-threatening 18 to 25 foot waves and they could really
8:46 am
also could have sneaker waves, which are coming out of, you know, unexpected just coming out of the ocean sweeping across the rocks and jetties in the beaches. they could pull people into the sea. also rip currents are moderate to likely and they can really pull you out to sea in that very cold water. so definitely a place to avoid is the is the water's edge, at least for the weekend. futurecast shows that we do have some rain that clears out rather quickly. and then a ridge builds and then we go offshore with the winds, which is a dry direction. so we're in for some dry weather for quite a few days. maybe even a couple of get ready can pack away the rain, the raincoat and the umbrella that you know what the rainfall amounts more impressive to the north and across the bay area. the most i could find i do about a 3rd of an inch in some spots. 44, 100's in hayward and about a quarter of an inch in san francisco. so this one goes quickly. temperatures in the 50's for the most part, everywhere you look, whether you're in san francisco are

and pacific of you head to the bay shoreline millbrae. 57, you start to head south where we don't get much warmer. 58 for mountain yay. we get to 60 in san jose and that's about the warmest spot. i could find lot of spots. 55 in rend are just about the mid-fifties to upper 50's. 58 in napa and point races. 56 degrees. looking ahead, it's dry. it's dry. once we get past today and a little bit warmer as we start to head into the new work week and look at this dry weather is predicted for us for the next number of days all the way through at least january. 12th across the entire west coast, especially bulls eyeing the san francisco bay area. back to you. >> are writing the year, which was full 8. we see that wetlands while the golden gate bridge sits at 22 minutes. well, for your help this morning style, the year can be exciting for many with.

>> fresh start for the new year. yeah. but for a lot of us all a whole new set of stresses can also emerge around this time for some it can be difficult to stay grounded in goals and keep positive with so many scary things happening around the world and in the news. joining us now is bay area wellness coach and author of the book essential probably on a cherry given good morning, gerri. >> good morning. jon arena. thanks for having >> well, thank you for joining us this morning with jerry. so many people said big goals for themselves this time of the year. would you advise those who might be looking to make some big life changes? >> you know, my advice really is to set realistic and achievable goals. you know, if your goal is to make, you know, 100 million dollars, that might be a big stretch for some of starting small and achieving those and bite-size pieces can be really helpful. another piece of advice is actually is technology your advantage. there's so many wellness apps out there, meditation working out money, tracking whatever your goal
8:49 am
might be. there's so many tools out there so it can carry us and use those. and lastly, for this question is to leave into your community anytime often. we trying to achieve goals that people around us are also trying to achieve. so you can have like and accountability, buddy or maybe even somebody to help you get there. >> yeah. sometimes with these goals, jerry people can begin to feel a little bit defeated when they don't see things happening the way they would like to. how can we get into practice is staying grounded in discipline and in the midst of any setbacks that worse may be seeing. >> yeah, setbacks for so normal as one or was that for everybody out there? she does suffer for most becoming to yourself. when you notice that you may give stepped away from the goals that you are trying to achieve and just start again, you know, progress isn't always linear. sometimes have to stop and start. and sometimes we get a little bit into achieving our goal. and we realize that that's actually not the golden pond. and so it's ok to readjust. and if you need to.
8:50 am
>> well, this time of the year also means going back to work. a lot of busy environment after the holidays. what advice you have for people who are getting back into the swing of things. >> so getting back into work and an exciting time we're seeing people haven't seen in a while. we're getting back into a routine and it's easy to get swept away by the busyness of it. all right. and so my advice would be just to pace yourself. you know, it's great that you have the energy to get going from campus that but take your time. you know, as we go into it, take breaks when you need one. my favorite things to do is actually to plan another break. 2 to 3 months out that we have something to look forward to as well. i think that's definitely good advice. well, in the bigger picture, jerry, we've had a lot of hard news lately, both locally and nationally. >> and that can also take a toll on mental health. how can we stay connected and informed while also protecting our peace? >> connect informed about protecting our pieces. e difficult balance often. and
8:51 am
so really understand for yourself what feels like too much. what doesn't feel like too much. what is your limit? and so for some people that might mean you need to limit things like social media. we're getting a lot of news information unconsciously serving conscious about their news consumption and maybe taking a break from social media. things are starting to feel a little too intense for you knowing that as much as we care about what's going on locally and nationally and globally that we are just one percent and we need to take care of ourselves. so staying informed is so so important, but so is taking care of your own mental health. so if things feel stressful, please, please give yourself permission to maybe take media break for a day or 2. only consume media during certain hours that you actually have the space to hold it in is some great advice there. >> practices do you personally put into place to help yourself feel balanced in the midst of everything we have going on.
8:52 am
>> yeah, it's a great question and it changes depending what's going on in the world. and so for the last few months i've been taking a social media break to protect piece, which has been actually wonderful during the holidays to spend more time with my friends and family and to spend more time doing the things i love to do like reading and going hiking, cetera. but aside from that, you know, taking care of ourselves, self care is so important is not just getting massages are going to the spa. meditating. if you need to or, you know, taking a break when you feel like things are just a little too intense for yourselves. so there's a practice that i bring into my world often and sometimes just, you know, phoning a friend can be a great way just to feel not so isolated. it's a guy that often this well. >> now, jerry, real quick before we let you go, we were looking at your latest book, the essentials of can you give us a breath work technique that our viewers can take home with them? maybe when they get a little overwhelmed. yeah, definitely because over 60
8:53 am
techniques, but a quick one for you is one called square breathing. >> and many people, it's quite achievable. and so the way you do this is that you inhale slowly for about 3 seconds. hold your breath. for about 3 seconds, exhale for 3 seconds and hold the breath out for 3 seconds. so at the breath you're creating a square in the breath. feels too intense for you. just don't do that. just inhale and exhale for the count of 3. but doing that for maybe 10 rounds are a few minutes. can help regulate your nervous system. bring you out of that fight or flight response that we get activated ensue and we'll help you find just a little bit more pace in your life. also, i already feel a little bit more thank you so much for joining u.s., gerri. and we hope that you have a very relaxed start to the new year. thank you both. i will be right >> still to come, we're still tracking that rain. as you can see all that green. we got a lo
