learning new details about the victims of that terror attack in new orleans that killed 14 people. >> and injured more than 30 others. this comes as the fbi continues to search for a motive. the driver has links to isis and plant a much more deadly attack. kimberly chang has the latest. >> the fbi has released photos of the suspected more details about the explosives left around the city. many families are mourning the brother of one of the victim shared that they spent christmas together and the night of the attack was the hardest of his life. >> and now etch day on will be the heart is i like living there. can't speak to ever again. his brother, 27

year-old martin. tiger bash was showing a friend around bourbon street in new orleans when a speeding truck when around a barricade and collided with a crowd of new year's revelers. i far that was one of 14 people killed. dozens others were injured. i kept screaming for help and nobody was coming. it was hard to walk down bourbon street today because you thinking about the victims. the fbi released photos of the driver. 42 year-old chef shoud in jabar. an army veteran who was killed in a firefight with police officials said jabar was inspired by the islamic state militant group. >> investigators said hours before the attack to bar who's from texas posted videos on facebook proclaiming his support for isis and plans for an attack. the plans also included the placement of explosives in the neighborhood. authorities recover 2 improvised devices left in coolers. jabar was a veteran. he joined the army in 2007 and served on active duty and human resources in it. he was deployed to afghanistan in 2009 transfer to the army reserve in 2015 and left in

new pieces of evidence, including photos and writings. investigators say they found on his phone indicating his frustration with the military. the army soldier who is on active duty at the time shot himself in the head right before he blew up the cybertruck. the fbi says he was struggling with ptsd and other issues. they're still trying to figure out an exact motive for the explosion right outside trump hotel. 7 people suffered injuries. >> through these interviews, we've have found that the subject held no animosity towards the president. elect. that's something that's also been reported. investigative steps have discovered and information the army indicates that he likely suffered from ptsd. and we are also aware that there are potential other family issues or personal grievances in his own life that may have been contributing factors. again, we're looking into all of that. >> live burger and the new orleans terror suspect both rented the vehicles used in the attacks from the online

fire. authorities say the pilot took off from fullerton airport at around 2 in the afternoon and immediately climbed to 900 feet. a short time later, the pilot called for an immediate return to the airport after receiving clearance to land on any runway the airplane turned and left toward one of the runways but crashed about 1000 feet short of the airport. officials say the plane was built in 2011 and was a single-engine aluminum aircraft. >> and rv 10 kit built plane essentially aircraft, an owner can assemble and maintain, according to experts, these planes have a very safe track record. >> and something that has been a very solid aircraft, a very safe, stable, our craft and one that's been flown hundreds of thousands of hours since they were introduced some 50 years ago. the warehouse building on raymer avenue near fullerton municipal airport remains red tech today. >> and the investigation into what caused the crash still ongoing.

placed pipe bombs in washington the night before the january 6th riot on capitol hill. surveillance video caught the still unidentified suspect wearing a mask. a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and nike air max speed turf sneakers. the suspect put 2 homemade bombs outside the democratic and republican national party headquarters. neither device exploded. a $500,000 reward is being offered for info that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible >> a recent rise in mail theft led to an investigation of the post office. and now federal investigators say a group of bad actors have influenced the postal service. alicia nieves has more now on what the investigation reveals and how the post office plans to combat the issue. >> this federal investigation revealing one reason why usps workers are stealing mail and packages is good. old-fashioned greed meets opportunity. but another

reason probably more concerning is a criminal organizations are actually tapping into workers trying to get them to infiltrate the u.s. postal service system. in fact, here's a direct quote from the usps inspector general tammy hall. she says, quote, criminal organizations are targeting recruiting and colluding with postal employees to move narcotics to the postal network and to steal checks. both personal and government issued checks credit cards and other valuables from the mail. now, some of the thefts that have investigation are pretty his significant. just 2 weeks ago, federal prosecutors charging 2 postal workers were stealing more than 1 million dollars in business checks. the 2 workers at postal facilities in virginia and north carolina. another investigation, milwaukee found a mail clerk who was under surveillance looking into trays for greeting cards that contain gift cards. that clerk move them to another trade during their in place that in his backpack now mill clarkson handlers being allowed to carry something like a

backpack, personal belongings while working with or sorting mail. that has been major way. the steps are occurring according to investigation. and one last example here in st. louis, a male handle actually stole 55 out of 150 packages out of a truck. the investigation they're finding that other mail handlers were helping each other as or a lookout, if you would, while stole items were stashed in their jackets and backpacks in that situation in st. louis, 7 workers either resigned or were fired. these examples just showing how widespread the situation is. we're told the number of thefts have actually been increasing. the most postal workers over the last 4 years as well. >> democrat adam schiff is sworn in for a full six-year term as california's new u.s. senator capital tell wallace, fpi'll speak with them about hi goals and alaska were key things. you can find common

>> why weather time here? as we get a look at san francisco, but maybe you want to get away maybe. and if you do, here's the man to tell you all about. yeah, you want to head out and about. i think we start drying things out as we get in toward tomorrow. not a bad time to get around in the winter months when a dry things out and explore much of california around the u.s.. but boy, it's going to be rough. other parts of the country here in the bay not bad. looking out towards sfo right now. you know, we have that rain early on things looking good local airports, no delays being reported sfo, oakland or san jose right now. how about the monterey bay you headed there? it's going to be kind of cool. little breezy, too. temperatures they're holding in the 50's in the monterey bay for tomorrow, but should be dry. southern the winds are gonna start to gust a bit in southern california, especially as we get to this next week. temperatures there expected to be in the 50's and also the 60's. well, things are kind of rough getting up in the sierra right now. but boy, as we head toward tomorrow, those skies start to clear out. yeah, it's going to be cold, but you've got all that fresh powder to ski on.

if you head to the high country should be beautiful up there. if you want to do that in the coming days, make sure you enjoy. well, we've got a major winter storm now developing across the country's midsection. she just kind of rolling out over the rockies here as much as a couple of feet of snow going to be impacting parts of that area. then you a little further. the son of a sunny start to get rain-snow mix and even some of that freezing rain is going to be a mess as that storm system works its way through and up. temperatures are going to take a hit to look at the numbers. point fargo, down to -14 appoints overnight that we had toward a sunday afternoon. those temperatures all the way down to 22 degrees in norman for a that is going to be a cold day. all that cold weather making its way across the northeast as well. all right, out there tonight. we've got some partly cloudy skies. still a chance of a scattered shower to a storm system. not quite done with this just yet. most energy coming through in the morning in the middle of day. started part, though, in the afternoon. still a chance we could see a scattered shower before midnight tonight. but then things begin to dry out. so that being said, i think this could be it for quite sometime. we're going to see

that the wondering shower, possibly moving through 9.10, o'clock tonight. but then things are going to dry out as we head in toward the weekend. so if you've got some plans looking pretty good to watch out for some patchy, dense fog and some partly cloudy skies for tomorrow. but that's about it. high pressure taking over that ridge kind of building in as the ridge builds all of a sudden that jet stream is going to move to the north. and that means we're going to dry out quite a bit long range models are shown well below normal precipitation for january, very dry, at least through the middle of the month. so looking out over the next few days, here we go. we're going to see a drier conditions. the weekend should be a great weekend to get out there and enjoy by next week. we've got some gusty offshore winds developing. think some of those temperatures by wednesday, maybe getting near 70 degrees around the bay area 70. that's going to be number 7. yeah. i mean, enjoy it while you get it, you never know what's going to happen in the 2nd half of the month. all thank you. hilton hotel is opening its second spot in walnut creek kennel open this spring. the hilton garden inn will welcome. >> guests to 4.90, lawrence way. you'll have 124 rooms,
