against the county of san mateo by sheriff christina corpus is lawyer was filed on december 3rd. and if there's a claim that there are some in the county who still believe that law enforcement is a, quote, white man's world. the claim filed against san mateo county says this is a case of discrimination and harassment against sheriff christina corpus. her attorney brad gage says county leaders do not want either a woman or latinx person as head of their sheriffs department. sheriff corpus tried to just >> the a team player and work with the system. but when she continued to be more wind again and again, she had no choice but to representation calls for the sheriff's resignation started after a scathing 400 page report was done by the county's independent investigator. she was accused of racism, retaliation, homophobia, abuse of power and having a romantic relationship with the assistant. sheriff gage says the allegations were based on an incomplete investigation with poor timing is being treated differently. in

discrimination. this is connected to a series of racist text messages exchange between police officers in antioch, those texts which were sent by officers in 2020 in 2021. came to light a few years later in total. the contra costa county da's office identified 17 officers who are being investigated for this. according to the justice department under this new agreement. now, the antioch police department we'll hire an expert law enforcement consultant. that consultant will update the department's policies and training on a variety of topics including use of force hiring and non discriminatory policing. the agreement also requires the police department to review how it collects and analyzes demographic data. this agreement will be in place for the next 5 years in release sent to crown for the antioch police department said in part, our collaboration with the u.s. doj underscores our dedication to fostering trust, transparency and accountability within our

police department. under this 5 year agreement we will implement and enhance comprehensive policies, practices training programs and oversight mechanisms that ensure that officers uphold integrity and fairness while addressing misconduct swiftly and effectively. oakland's fire chief says the closing of 2 fire houses on monday will definitely have an impact. >> on the residents there, the browning out of oakland hills, fire stations. 25 28. it's part of the city's attempts to close 129 million dollar deficit as kron four's. dan kerman reports for us tonight. the chief believes the station's marked for closure will cause the least impact on oaklanders. >> seconds matter. absolutely. absolutely. and we are rolling the dice on that for oakland fire, chief damon covington says seconds matter when it comes to saving lives, be it and fires or medical emergencies. and the city council's decision to close to

fire stations. >> to help balance the budget. >> it cannot be without increasing the fire department's response time to public safety emergencies because there is an impact. there's a great amount of impact. >> what our job is figure out how we can least lessen that impact to the public after an analysis coming. didn't says it was determined closing oakland hills, fire stations. 28 and 25 for 6 months. beginning monday. what have the least impact on residents? we felt like because of the time of the year, as you can see, it's really foggy today. we're not directly in wild man season. this was an opportunity to use a couple of our hill houses that normally are in a high fire severity zone. help with those closures. the plan is to have station 21, which is centered within 4 miles of fire houses. 25 28 cover the bulk of their calls. anytime there's a reduction of fire protection services. it's a. >> it's a it's everything more at risk.

>> advocate of keeping as much first responder services available as possible. >> but those who live in the oakland hills are not pleased with the plan are a whole neighborhood is really upset about. intentionally losing the fire station really are part of our community at that here for. >> 25 or 30 years, and most of my neighbors have to we feel really protected. >> from that fire danger. the chief says come july first, both oakland hills fire houses will reopen and different stations will be browned out. should that be mandated by the city council and the station closures on the end of it. another 4 stations are slated to close in february unless the city council decides to make changes. in the oakland hills. dan kerman kron, 4 news. oakland police are investigating yet another homicide just 3 days into the new year. >> it happened just before

midnight near the intersection of 12th street and 22nd. have police say the victim was taken to the hospital where they died? no word yet on a suspect. >> millbrae massage therapist has been arrested after deputies say that he sexually assaulted a woman during a massage. they say that there may be more victims out there. a woman told last month that 47 year-old go. shane chen inappropriately touched her at a business on meadow glen avenue and broadway. he was arrested yesterday. police did not name the location but the water loans pause the only spot in that area. chan is facing multiple charges including battery involving an unconscious person. authorities say that he also worked as a massage therapist in alameda contra costa and san mateo counties. deputies are asking any other victims to come forward. new at 6 california health officials are urging people to get their vaccine against whooping cough after reporting a rise in cases and an infant death.

officials say that between january and october of last year, more than 2000 people had whipping cough more than 60 of those cases where babies less than 4 months old around the same time in 2023, there were fewer than 400 cases across the state. officials say those who are pregnant family members or baby caregivers need to get the dede at the tea dap vaccine to protect children from serious illness and hospitalization. happening tonight, a high surf advisory will go into effect at 9 o'clock. it will last through early sunday morning. >> officials say waves could be as high as 25 feet. they say to watch out for sneaker waves, especially which can sweep across the beach without warning and pull you into the water. with that. we want to go to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow who is tracking the ocean and the forecast a large. yeah, we've had these large waves. the storm systems just generate the swells out over the pacific and eventually those waves and up along the

coastline and >> we're seeing another round of that. again. of course, we had a storm moved through today, bringing some rain to the bay area that. >> oksana settling down now, but still the storms continue off the coastline. so watching some big breakers moving in toward the beaches, especially west northwest, facing beaches. that's where you're likely to see our largest yet. maybe 18. maybe 25 foot breakers got to be extra careful on the rocks, of course, to go along with that. you're going to see some very strong rip currents out there, too. so be careful out there as we're going to see those waves continuing to build right now. not all that large. in fact, the very latest you can see along the coastline into san francisco about 6 foot waves moving in. but they're much larger waves off the coastline. in fact, some of those waves. yeah, we're talking to 21 feet. we've got that next round wave activity just about to move onshore. and you get out in the middle of the pacific and it's even much, much larger. in fact, we're talking waves to 32 feet. he'll take a while for those waves to get here. but this is winter in the bay area. got be careful out there on the coast.

>> all right, lauren, some good news here. the santa cruz wharf is set to reopen this weekend after partially collapsing from big waves a couple weeks ago. kron charles clifford reports here in santa cruz on friday. the war remains close. take a look behind me there. you can see they've still got the the entrance blocked off older. they are allowing some city officials and business owners and repair crews to go in and out. >> as they prepare to reopen the wharf on saturday morning, the city of santa cruz says that following an engineering assessment and sonar examination of the under structure of the war, they believe that it is safe to reopen. obviously the far end of the war that broke free during those big waves on december 23rd that sections going remain closed off, but they say the rest of the work is safe. they also say the coast guard has completed a sonar examination of the area and they've located some heavy equipment, including a crane that fell into the water back on december 23rd. they say they believe that stuff is

house to swear-in lawmakers duly elected speaker of the house of representatives for the 119. >> house speaker mike johnson will keep his job. it is the great honor of my life to serve this body. with all of you. but some fellow republicans wanted to make him work for it. massey. mr. kentucky congressman tom massie already said he would vote against johnson. >> and other republicans like south carolina congressman ralph norman also nominated others for speaker norman. jordan. but then most change their tune and voted for johnson. some gop members had concerns about federal government spending and wanted assurances from johnson that he has a plan to tackle it. johnson said he will be transparent about where tax dollars are spent and find better ways to use them. he's an honest broker. >> he shows you his true beliefs face value, michigan congresswoman lisa mcclain supported johnson.

now, it's high pressure going to take over still a chance. you might see a few scattered showers as we head through the evening hours by midnight. i think that's pretty much all done up there right now. looking from the berkeley hills, you still see some clouds out over the bay right now. rainfall yeah, not bad. almost a half an inch into santa rosa just under a 3rd in napa. just a little less than that in richmond, san francisco 18, 100's to tents in oakland and jult over a 10th of an inch of rain in san jose. but as i mentioned, this may be it. we're going to see major pattern change. and that's going to mean a big dome of high pressure for us and some very cold weather across other parts of the country. but here's that front moving through today, bringing lots of snow in the high country. they're more scattered showers on the backside. we've got a warm or band of moisture likely to move in a little bit later on this evening. but mostly dry out there right now. and that's the way likely stay as we head toward the weekend. winds yet been little blustery in spots. we've seen some pretty good breeze is out there as we head throughout the afternoon. some of those winds gusting to as high as 30 miles an hour or so. but now
