thank you for joining us. i'm catherine heenan. >> the santa cruz wharf is back open to the public. this is after that collapse, partial collapse last month. the closure affected several businesses which had to temporarily shut down. kron four's. lindsey ford talked to some of the owners. she has an update. >> it's been nearly 2 weeks since the partial collapse of the santa cruz wharf and with its debut reopening saturday, business owners are looking towards a brighter and more lucrative new year. >> we know we're open now and we're happy. we're we're still to be here. >> since we opened, we've had a ton of regulars coming in. and it's just it's really warmed our >> this managers and owners nestled on the wharf are now playing catch up on bills because of missing out on the

holiday rush when the work was closed, not only did we lose out on business and there's a lot of food waste associated with that. i mean, clothes for 10 days. alicia dogs, manager of gilda's homestyle comfort, food restaurant. >> says what hurts the most is employees taking a plunge in their paychecks, which some employees had to ask for an extension to pay rent this month. you're concerned not they're going to be able to pay their bills and they're gonna be able to you know. >> gary, because we didn't know how long we're closing down and we never really had anything like this in the, you know, 40 plus years that we've been out here, murray, knees, candies in the same situation, excited to reopen. but it's been tough on business. things happen and that's just how life goes and get through. and then just keep going. so. >> just excited to be back out as of saturday and through the next coming weeks. tony elliott increased parks and recs the city is focused on cleanup of the ocean is a dangerous place. a crane is submerged in the ocean. 160 feet off the war and 300

lot of people liked us. see these high waves at the coast, but definitely use caution as we just saw in that story with lindsay story about the santa cruz reopening. now, let's talk about the weather pattern. talk about a change. we saw the rain yesterday. now we are off to a drying pattern for the next week or so. so overnight in the morning, look out for some patchy fog in our valleys, but the rest of the weekend and early next week. look, we look dry. we look like we're in the 60's and upper 50's breezy conditions on the way tuesday. i'll have details in the extended forecast. back to you. thank you, gayle. >> and oakland, police sergeant is on administrative leave after shooting a man during a foot chase this morning. the officer says he saw someone shooting a rifle near macarthur boulevard about 5 in the morning ran after that person shot him. police say the man barricaded himself in a home nearby. eventually he did surrender officers on routine leave during the investigation. san francisco

police are looking for the driver connected to a deadly hit and run. it happened about 05:00pm tonight on silver avenue and colby street police saa pedestrian was hit who later died at the hospital. the driver left the scene. anyone with information is being asked to contact san francisco place. also in the city of person being treated for serious injuries after a shooting. police say it happened just after 6.30, on 5th street in the soma neighborhood. video from the scene shows bullet holes through the windows. this at a homeless shelter. there. man is behind bars in connection to that shooting. san francisco mayor elect daniel lurie 3 days away now from taking office today he hosted neighborhood cleanup events. he's going to do it again tomorrow. hillary is asking neighbors to join in today. he was in ocean beach ingleside and bayview kron four's jack moment has the story.

to crack down on drug use and homelessness supervisor matt dorsey recently penned a letter to law enforcement agencies asking them if they have the capacity to arrest up to 100 people every night in the 6th street and tenderloin area. the letter also suggests forcing people into detox mayor-elect lori did not say if he supports that proposal or not, but did say he supports cleaning up the area. my administration is going to make sure that we send a message to the country to the world that you don't come to san francisco to deal drugs are do drugs any longer. and the mayor's cleanup efforts continue sunday with events in the tenderloin and in the mission and all those events lead up to wednesday at 11:30am, in the morning where daniel lurie will be inaugurated. that francisco's mayor, it will be followed by an open house here at city hall throughout the rest of the day reporting here in san francisco jacmel. but kron 4 news. >> we will spend this week.

overnight lows, a little chilly in napa and santa rosa the low 40's. so mainly our valleys will be a little chilly. but mid 40's for the rest of us in the upper 40's elsewhere. so here are the forecast highs in your neighborhood. let's start in san francisco with partly cloudy skies. upper 50's low 60's over by the coastline. we have upper 50's in pacifica 60's in half moon bay. also partly cloudy and on the other side inside the bay. sure. we have 59 for south san francisco. you start to see the 60's as you make your way towards the south bay. so low 60's. so we've really been in the low 60's and upper 50's for quite some time now. but this is going to be nice with us. some light winds as well. so is low 60's for you in the santa clara county area to the east bay tried valley more low 60's in livermore. so very similar temperatures all across the bay area. try valley walnut creek, a danville, you have your also in the low 60's there and same for you in the north bay in sonoma and napa. really nice

>> fairfield police have arrested a man accused of committing a hit-and-run. they say officers saw a crash on north texas street and travis boulevard. they pulled over the driver. he initially tried to get away according to police. they say he has an outstanding warrant connected to and earlier hit-and-run. no injuries were reported. jetblue has been fined 2 million dollars by federal transportation officials for an realistic scheduling and chronic delays. the problems led to a number of flight delays between june of 2022. through november of 2023, the department of transportation says half the fine money will go directly to jetblue customers who were affected by the delays or disruptions. the other half will go to the

city. so but as we are dealing with warmer temperatures, we're quiet here in the bay area and you can see it on the extended forecast has that 10 at 10 60's all across the board. expecting some breezy conditions tuesday with a bit of some offshore winds. but even the overnight lows, quite mild in the low 40's to upper 40's. we remember we're in the 30's not too long ago. certainly watching what's happening elsewhere, though, in the country, some very dangerous conditions and not only heavy snow, but ice as well. and that's can make those roads treacherous. you know, i grew up in the midwest i was thinking about that rudel brutal wind chills. you do not forget that. all right. thank you. go there. >> back to news. 3 people were shot and injured in oakland last night. that happened on harrison street in what's known as the produce and waterfront neighborhood just after 7 polie found 3 people who'd been shot each of them several times. one of them does remain in critical condition across the country.

police departments are using drones to fight crime. they're doing that more and more often. officers say it's helping them in all kinds of situations. but some people are questioning whether law enforcement agencies are using that drones too much. some suggest limits on when and how the drones are used. reporter chip yost looks at both sides of that issue. >> these he committed a crime and he's in a position of advantage, basically walking out of the car. >> in anaheim, corona, police used a drone to keep eyes on an armed man in a car on the 91 freeway. and i want election felicia people fighting about health in forward to a drone beat officers to this home in gave them a timely warning based am i? >> what looks like 47 has so i told him hold off. >> there is no immediate

threat to the other person. >> and in fountain valley, you're buying. police had a training exercise that involves sending the drone indoors to look for a barricaded suspect. >> one of the advantages of drones is it allows us to remain at a safer distance while sending in eyes to be able to figure out the situation. the common thread in all of those scenarios is that the drone use was in response to an emergency situation. what what's going on in beverly hills is next level at the entrance to our cities. we have big sign boards as they welcome to beverly hills police drone in news. >> that's right. in addition to the roughly 2500 surveillance cameras throughout the city that are monitored here at the police department's real-time watch center, beverly hills also employs pilots who fly a drone from the watch center to actively patrol the city 12

hours a day, 7 days a week. lieutenant todd withers oversees the program. >> and they can fly remotely to any call for service. any suspicious activity and then we can go and check out. critical infrastructures will maintain security. >> so whether you're here on rodeo drive or somewhere else in beverly hills, it's quite possible. a police drone could be up above keeping an eye on. >> you think that's a good or a bad idea to use a drone like that? i think overall it's probably a good idea. i think it can be a good idea as far as like safety ms. but i alsb think that it may be. >> invading some privacy and the ways she's not the first person to raise that 2023 report by the aclu. >> did his well? law enforcement likes to tout certain success stories that are appealing to everybody. >> but the real question is, where's what are the limits going to be here? jay stanley

was here, we had some rain allt over this thing and now across the board, you see plenty of sunshine. we're talking 60's a little warmer on wednesday. and that is because we have some offshore winds now be coming through on tuesday. so it's going to be a little warmer going to be breezy. i would not be surprised if we see a wind advisory early next week. but, you know, sunny and breezy for the middle of the week in the 60's. now, these offshore winds will create problems in southern california. they didn't get a lot of rain as much as we did. so we could risk of wildfires pop up down there and south. but other than that, we're pretty quiet here. just, you know, mix of some clouds, sun, the usual fog, but very nice. you know, dry for 1st half of the month so far and dry is welcome at this point. gail gail, it's not going anywhere. we're not going anywhere. we'll take a short break and be back at 11.
