>> everyone, welcome. thank you for joining us. i'm catherine heenan. the santa cruz wharf is now back open to the public following a partial collapse last month. the closure did affect string of businesses they had to temporarily shut down kron four's. lindsey ford talked to some of the owners. she has an update. >> it's been nearly 2 weeks since the partial collapse of the santa cruz wharf and with its debut reopening saturday, business owners are looking towards a brighter and more lucrative new year.

>> we know we're open now and we're happy. we're we're still to be here. >> since we opened, we've had a ton of regulars coming in. and it's just it's really warmed our >> this managers and owners nestled on the wharf are now playing catch up on bills because of missing out on the holiday rush when the work was 10 days. alicia dogs, manager of gilda's homestyle comfort, food restaurant. >> says what hurts the most is employees taking a plunge in their paychecks, which some employees had to ask for an extension to pay rent this month. you're concerned not they're going to be able to pay their bills and they're gonna be able to you know. >> gary, because we didn't know how long we're closing down and we never really had anything like this in the, you know, 40 plus years that we've been out here, murray, knees, candies in the same situation, excited to reopen. but it's

pretty shot and gale is back. she's been talking about drier weather in part, changes. >> started off with rain yesterday. the first rain of the year and now we have a drying trend in store for the foreseeable future. we do have a high surf advisory into the overnight hours. so this. >> expires 03:00am tomorrow. so even when it does expire, we still see some choppy waters wave heights right now we are at 8 feet high as we speak in this 11:00pm hour. but we saw, you know, like we're expecting 18 to 20 feet breakers overnight. so, you know, the waves are magnificent. but if you want to go to the beach tomorrow in the morning, just be mindful. still going to be a bit hazardous. and here we could see the fog roll in and our we usually see a dense fog advisory towards sacramento valley in the fresno area. so just watch out for that. but other than that, we clear out by the afternoon the rest of your weekend looks very pleasant. we have partly

cloudy skies, low 60's upper 50's for our daytime highs. we have some breezy conditions coming our way tuesday. a bit of some offshore winds will be warming us up event. i'll have details in the extended forecast. back to you. thank you, gayle. >> san francisco police are looking for the driver connected to a deadly hit and run. that happened tonight about 05:00pm on silver avenue in kobe street. police say a pedestrian was hit who later died at the hospital. the driver, according to police, did leave the scene. anyone with information is being asked to contact san francisco police also in the city, a person being treated for serious injuries after a shooting today, which police say happened just after 6.30, on 5th street and the soma neighborhood video from the scene shows bullet holes through the windows at homeless shelter. there. a man is behind bars in connection to that shooting. san francisco mayor elect daniel lurie just 3 days away from taking office and today he

hosted at neighborhood cleanup event. he's going to do it again tomorrow. lori is asking neighbors to join in today. he was in ocean beach ingleside and bayview kron four's jack moment has that story. >> in san francisco, ap, it's cleanup day from big to small and almost 4 we are. >> was that one max davis heads around this neighborhood decided to help clean up when he heard mayor elected annual larry would be hosting a local clean up its because out here. yeah, i was a i was a supporter and the it's nice to see a face. then he is a san francisco resident and is looking forward to what this new administration will bring a little more safe. eli had to be able to walk around downtown downtown to be nice if it was more of a city, again, a walkable city and the mayor elect himself just days away from inauguration is picking up piece by piece and reading neighbors who also

supported his election or just tell them, you know, to keep up the good work. you know, when i met he was guess. he was a trying to get voter would not would be came to our church, you know, and we just mingling with the people feel like down or, you know, larry is hosting several cleanups throughout the i think there's a lot of hope and optimism. >> what i keep hearing is that hope is alive and well here in san francisco. but while he's very early days of leadership in the city start off piece by piece, he was elected based on big plans to deal perhaps the biggest cleanup of them. all and then make sure we have safe streets as well. make sure we get people off the streets that are suffering from mental health issues addiction. get them into treatment. >> saturday kron 4 walk down 6th street for mission street and saw dozens of people using drugs and lying on the street. >> many people calling out for help other people clearly not wanting our cameras in the area. advocates say up to 500 people are here using drugs every night is making sure

that 6 street this clean, that we get people off the street and into the help that they need. i'm working with the sheriff's department and the police department. we are going to make sure >> that the entry points to our city are beacons of hope. one of the mayor-elect schools is to crack down on drug use and homelessness supervisor matt dorsey recently penned a letter to law enforcement agencies asking them if they have the capacity to arrest up to 100 people every night in the 6th street and tenderloin area. the letter also suggests forcing people into detox mayor-elect lori did not say if he supports that proposal or not, but did say he supports cleaning up the area. my administration is going to make sure that we send a message to the country to the world that you don't come to san francisco to deal drugs are do drugs any longer. and the mayor's cleanup efforts continue sunday with events in the tenderloin and in the mission and all those events lead up to wednesday at 11:30am, in the morning where daniel lurie will be inaugurated. that francisco's an open house here at city

hall throughout the rest of the day reporting here in san francisco jacmel. but kron 4 news. >> 3 people were shot and injured in oakland last night happened on harrison street in what's known as the produce and waterfront neighborhood just after 07:00pm. police found 3 people. they say they've been shot several times. one of them remains in critical condition. and oakland police sergeant is on administrative leave after shooting a man during a foot chase this morning. the officer says he saw someone shooting a rifle now near on macarthur boulevard about 05:00am ran after him shot him at one point, police say the man barricaded himself in a nearby home, but did eventually surrender. the officer is on routine leave during the investigation. >> san leandro police looking for this missing woman. her name is pamela jones. >> she was last seen thursday on about 07:00pm and wearing a beige beanie white shirt, gray pants. police say that she has

been diagnosed with mental health ailments and is believed to be taking medication. anyone with information is asked to call police. self-driving cars, promise convenience and innovation. but for one la manna recent ride in a turned into a really frustrating ordeal. he says instead of a smooth ride to the airport, there was a problem that left the car driving in circles, leaving him stranded and dizzy. he says the company's customer service only made things worse. >> it was just going in the circles like around 6th time. that feeling was very uncomfortable where you strap to you can open the door and vehicles just going in circles somebody obviously of the control tower realize that there's a malfunction and then they're trying to fix it. but the kicker is they're trying to fix it. and they're trying use my phone fix the problem. >> waymo at last check and responded to the complaint. mike says the experience has raised questions for him

>> in san francisco, hundreds of pro-palestinian protesters marched through union square today calling for a cease-fire in gaza. this protest comes as president biden is planning to send another 8 billion dollars in military aid to israel before his term ends. the sale reportedly includes medium and long-range missiles. the state department told congressional leaders about the plan like yesterday. some of the weapons could be sent immediately. others could take a year or more to be delivered. protesters pointing out more than 45,000, 500 palestinians have been killed since the conflict began. most of them women and children. just today, israeli forces killed at least 70 palestinians. most of them children. >> we will spend this week. celebrating this incredible life, a life that i think we
