start in the weather center, john. yeah, that fog is so packed in this morning and where you're seeing it. it is absolutely causing some visibility issues. as james was saying, check those flight delays could be some big issues out there with that look at san francisco right now. this is typically a view at the downtown skyline. and you can't see any of it. when i was driving across the bay bridge could not see any of the skyline, right when you are right next to it, too. so the fog is very much so packed in the only spots actually seeing a dense fog advisory does happen to be the north bay, but you clearly see that it is extending well along the bay shore into the south bay, too. so be mindful of that. it's going to take several hours for this burn off. we will eventually get to a mostly sunny afternoon, but it'll take some time 30's to 40's for current temps. it is cold in palo alto, dublin livermore in the upper 30's right now as we move into the afternoon with those clearing skies, you can expect some upper 50's to low 60's right now. all right, john, thanks.

road. a look at the ground or ian james, it is wet because from time to time the waves come up, the beach is right below me in half moon bay and this advisory is in effect for 24 hours in till tuesday morning because it's so strong as far as the sneaker waves that they are telling people be careful. keep your dog on a leash because we've seen that before where unfortunately the pets get swept out to see. of course, the owner follows the pats and sometimes it ends tragically just make sure that you have your pet on a leash. and if you possibly can try to keep as far away as you can from the water because again, it can come out of nowhere and it's been known to grab big boulders, much less people. i mean, were no match for boulder's, of course. and even then the boldest get swept out. so you got to be careful. fortunately, the sun is coming up at this time. so at the very least, you can see how close you are to the water level and how far it goes up

to the beach. but definitely this is going to be in effect for the next 24 hours. and in fact, james and we were much closer. you can see the barriers there, but the wind, the waves started coming up. and that's when we also started to back up. and we're not even on the beach. back incredible. thanks a lot. well. >> all right, 704, on the clock. thieves have targeted and robbed 3 different businesses throughout oakland from saturday night into early sunday morning. and the business owners say they are not surprised. they're blaming teenagers, jacmel that has more. oakland police say this was the first breaking of the night at extra mile store off castro street. get a offers frustrated sunday afternoon to for the day store. employees at extra mile didn't want to interview with kron 4. >> but they did. teenagers messed with the atm machine and it needs to be repaired. i faith that the always at the oakland. you take the good with the bad when it comes to oakland. >> open is a beautiful place

with a lot of rich history. and i don't think a lot of people take value in the rich history that is open. this woman says the string of burglaries here in oakland is not shocking but just disappointing. i love oakland, treat better. >> oakland police then say a group of thieves targeting smoke shop off san pablo avenue just before for the morning. >> paul into state. elise of the store manager here says they didn't make out with much, took some fake jordans. everything else was left intact. it is very frustrating. >> we have to we are you have bills with pain. got to pay. the rent is around the first of the managers here at the smoke shop tell us they've been broken into several times over the last year. each time they've broken into cost them thousands of dollars. this particular break-in, it's going to cost them around $20,000 to repair. >> makes were right there. and the police not that far and they just let of juggling.

lisa says her boss saw oakland police chase the team down the road, but then give up kron 4 reached out to opd to confirm this information and open. police told kron 4 that responding officers determined they have no authorization to pursue the suspects like they pretended to do the job or lisa says, despite the multiple break-ins, they don't plan on closing down just yet. but she has a message for the teens. hopefully your lesson someday. get a job and they can buy some real readings. >> oakland police say thieves also burglarized a safe way off broadway. the manager on duty at this location says the door was quickly fixed and thieves didn't end up taking much. this makes 5 burglaries over the last 2 weekends ago. quick kron 4 asked opd for comment on the spike in burglaries but did not hear back reporting in oakland's jack moment. kron 4 news. >> well, 707, is the time. and in the north bay, the now coming together to raise money from the hit and run crash victim or for a hit and run crash. it was just days before

christmas that this accident destroyed the man's wheelchair accomplished. lindsey ford has the story. >> the room. and been to be honest. i sat there for like 10 minutes time. nobody came outside. nobody heard it. >> just 5 days before christmas, the unthinkable happened to melvin jones in valais. whoa around 11, 10 at night right outside of his home. he was struck by a car while positioning himself out of his wheelchair into his vehicle. so even cause sometimes suffer from depression, it was like a movie said jones he saw in his rear view mirror bright lights approaching closer and closer pushing keep pushing. are going. >> quick quick, quick, quick, quick. >> and then when door from you got to those winter bama wheelchair does flew in the air. did a couple of tumbles land on the ground and it ended up like in the middle of his shattered to pieces in

shock after the impact, jones as he braced himself by grabbing the steering wheel. >> and looking ahead at the driver who hit him, seen him put on a light reverse lights. >> you know, like what are >> and they took off. never even came down to see if i was all right. >> he's now using a replacement wheelchair. what's left are remains of his main wheelchair, twisted and ruined along with his car's windows. glass shattered in the street. just a lot of trauma that. that i didn't have to go through up. i would have been better. the person just stop. i would have felt a little bit better came by to check on me. >> but just not doing that. just left me in a bad place. the hit and run has left jones with a broken foot on top of already had suffered from a tragedy in 2003. >> that left him para plea, jake, from gunshot wounds on titan heard already hurt. so i got to keep getting hurt. >> what has helped melvin look to a brighter new year is his

>> oh, my gosh. look at how foggy it is out there. we've got a dense fog advisory in effect until 10 o'clock this morning. this is the bay bridge from treasure island. and you can't see a thing and this goes to show you 2, but the lights member, you don't want your brights on because this bounce back at, you know, try to help. you do need a little something a because like cars behind you that i have to yeah, yeah. so these these cars are on coming, but you can see the tail lights as you're following cars, which

is nice. a lot of times. it's the only way i can tell if i'm standing the lanes. how long this fox stick around find out a job. it's going to be stubborn this morning. several hours. >> if you look outside right now is showing just as much but from above right here from your east bay hills is pushed right into the bay. it's a very thin layer. what you're going to see over the next several hours. is it starting to lift a little bit and then subtly burning it is a thin layer so it will do so towards late morning south bay. you're mostly looking up at the gray. well, our bridges in the north bay, you are driving right through it. so prepare yourselves for that low visibility. that is coming along on the morning commute. otherwise skies are dry. this year's stride out the north certainly dried out. and this is something that future cast is showing remaining well, through the course of this week on into this weekend. in fact, it's not really until the 17th or 18th that a lot of long-range models are indicating any potential of rainfall. and this means areas, even lake mendocino in eureka may only see like a

singles letter of water, too. now the west coast, the united states is going to continue to stay dry into next week, too. this is our extended outlook. the 11th through 15th of the month, still much drier than average. a little bit of good news for the north coast. a chance to drive back out for southern california, though they are actually falling well behind its not been a rainy season for la neighbors, areas further to the south. now upper 50's for those daytime highs in the city. mid 50's at the coast. most of us today are going to land right below the 60 degree mark, although some of us will reach 60 like in san jose and santa clara getting up to 61 this afternoon. fog is going to take some time to burn off and that will suppress temperatures a little bit, especially for inland areas. and that does mean spots like pittsburgh will actually be a little bit cooler than areas out towards the bayshore numbers will continue to rise through the week, though. and we do have more more 60's on the way, especially wednesday

5.6 million dollars now will go to the silicon valley. advanced manufacturing partnership. and there's a list here. the participating colleges there on the screen includes san jose state. the partnership aims to prepare people, particularly people of color and female workers for jobs as manufacturing technicians and machinist. the program will collaborate with manufacturing companies, including tesla. >> time now 7.25 in california is issuing fewer teaching credentials as we're facing an ongoing teacher shortage and fewer students are enrolling in programs to become teachers. state officials issued 2000 fewer teaching credentials. then last year making that a two-year dip now in teacher certifications, many districts across california are relying on in turns and teachers working on emergency type of permits teach in the classrooms. emergency permits allow schools to fill a vacancy when there are no suitable

>> 7.29 right now. and this is the big story and weather behind us. and think now traffic is slow. flights are delayed. we'll get to all that in detail. but let's start with the actual forecast eyes where you're seeing the fog. you're really seeing it. it is dense. it is packed in. but you aren't seeing a very thick layer of it. so once it does start to burn off later this morning, you're going to get sunshine pretty quickly. no sunshine behind me at the golden gate. you do have a little peek of it right here at the coast in half moon bay. >> sun on the left, a very, very thick on the right now. the only spots in the bay that are seeing dense fog advisories do happen to be the immediate coastline. san francisco in the north bay, although we are seeing low cloud cover to fog elsewhere, especially at bridge level. so watch a bridge crossings. it's going to take several hours for this to clear out eventually getting to mostly sunny skies. but this low gray throughout much of the morning will suppress temperatures a bit. right now. we're in the 30's to 40's a cool start to the day. eventually we will see daytime highs rising into the 50's to low 60's.

arrested a man for killing his wife in february of 2023. that's when police responded to the edwards avenue off-ramp on 5.80, in oakland and they found a woman named look. he mccowan she had been shot to death. the chp identified her husband, nathaniel mccowan as the primary suspect. and after a two-year investigation, as you can see here, he was arrested and the alameda county da has filed charges against him. >> well, another bay area police department now considering using drones santa rosa police are looking at drones to be used as part of their first responder program to help fight crime and to help respond to natural disasters. these drones have cameras and thermal sensors that can access flooded areas are collapsed, buildings much easier than first responders some cases even before first responders arrive. police say this would be less expensive than using a helicopter and other aerial vehicles. there will be a community meeting to

carcinogenic in the united states that they do not allow in european countries. they do not allow in canada. why do we allow them here? we allow them here because certain big food companies have learned that these ingredients will increase the shelf life. the california push includes calls for ingredient changes, somithing on par with the cleaner european cheetos. they have hot cheetos in europe. >> and they make them without the food dyes and actually says on the packaging they brag about the fact that it is made without artificial colors. >> well, rental listing scams are becoming more elaborate and local authorities in santa clara county are now warning everybody to be careful. so san jose police say these types of scams are getting worse and more difficult to nail down because they can take various forms. everything from housing scams to financial fraud, identity theft, cyberattacks, all of it. officials say you want to look out for rental advertisements that have prices that are well below market rate. if it's too good to be true, it probably is. he also on the lookout for when
