in the morning. you ave you're not imagining it. the view behind you to was very foggy. but just a whole different angle facing towards downtown san francisco. and you do have a little peek of sunshine. >> it's really some dense fog where you're seeing it. but some of us are loo.ing up at those brighter skies like you're now seeing over downtown sf are dense. fog advisories do impact the coast. the city of san francisco as well as the north bay areas further south in the bay like san jose. you're looking at sunshine already. now we are going to be seeing that fog still hanging out with this in some respects through late morning. but by the afternoon we get that sunshine all across the board in a pretty pleasant day along with it. so do expect it cool and comfortable one here in a few hours. 30's to 40's right now, though. so don't forget the extra layer as we do move into the afternoon 50's to low 60's for your highs with mostly sunny conditions, right? all right, anthony, but that certainly day people are taking their time out. there is a traveling and driving. >> because that visibility is just awful. you can see a lot

of people using those low beams out there on your bridges and highways. the best bet for right now. 71 right on the bay bridge. if you are going to be taking the san mateo, you're at about 20 minutes there. richmond, sandra fell bridge 17 minutes. very slow and go for the folks trying to navigate that dense fog and the golden gate bridge about 36 minutes. all regions. back to you. thanks to light a long line. get to the breaking news now, which was a person who was killed in a car crash. the car split in half after he hit a tree. according to the chp. that crash happened sometime around one 40 this morning. it was on highway one in pescadero right there being hollow road. >> we're trying to confirm if anybody was else was hurt or involved. but the cause of the crash still unclear. chp is looking into whether speed was a factor. and as you can see, the car was demolished. all the lanes are blocked during the investigation. they've since reopened. we'll let you know what we find out later on. well, the weather is causing delays at bay area. airports mode it or not. this

best shot today. what is that? this is what sfo is dealing with that pretty dense fog there over the airport. >> the faa obviously reporting low visibility is going to be causing some arriving flights to be delayed about 54 minutes in general. and that's at their departing airport headed for san francisco. so his weight was this shot, our usual and that a the airport terminals and some of the planes moving in the foreground. not today. that is not good. there's a lot of delays. yeah. flightaware reporting that 73 flights have been delayed so sofo with 10 canceled. it's a little better at san jose. they've got 14 flights delayed there. and oakland, just 9 flights delayed, soak unfair and probably the best of all 3 airports so far. and that's not all about the weather today. we've got fog. we also have sneaker waves. yeah, out at the coast, we've got some some advisories to be on the lookout for the sneaker waves obviously creep up on you without notice. they're stronger than usual waves and they can pull you into the water if you're not careful not to post a picture back to the water, but coffers will tran.

a offers frustrated sunday afternoon to find the stories mostly closed for the day store. employees at extra mile didn't want to interview with kron 4. >> but they did. teenagers messed with the atm machine and it needs to be repaired. i faith that the state always at the oakland you take the good with the bad when it comes to oakland. >> open is a beautiful place with a lot of rich history. and i don't think a lot of people take value in the rich history that is open. this woman says the string of burglaries here in oakland is not shocking but just disappointing. i love oakland, treat better. >> oakland police then say a group of thieves targeting smoke shop off san pablo avenue just before for the morning. >> paul into state. elise of the store manager here says they didn't make out with much, took some fake jordans. everything else was left intact. it is very frustrating. >> we have to we are you have bills with pain. got to pay. the rent is around. the first of the mine managers here at

the smoke shop. tell us they've been broken into several times over the last year. each time they're broken into cost them thousands of dollars. this particular break-in, it's going to cost them around $20,000 to repair. >> makes me right there. and the police were not that far and they just let him juggling. lisa says her boss saw oakland police chase the team down the road, but then give up kron 4 reached out to opd to confirm this information and open. police told kron 4 responding officers determined they have no authorization to pursue the suspects like they pretended to do the job or lisa says, despite the multiple break-ins, they don't plan on closing down just yet. but she has a message for the teens. hopefully your lesson someday. get a job and they can buy some real readings. >> oakland police say thieves also burglarized a safe way off broadway. the manager on duty at this location says the door was quickly fixed at these didn't end up taking much. this makes 5 burglaries over the last 2 weekends in

oakland kron 4 asked opd for comment on the spike in burglaries but did not hear back reporting in oakland jacked moment. kron 4 news. >> 7 is the time. and the san mateo county sheriff's office is now warning people about scams that are targeting the hispanic community. deputies say the scammers are calling people and offering to register their children into the amber alert system. but this is just a way to get confidential information and even meet with residents at their homes. you don't want that to happen. authorities say this is clearly not how the amber alert system works. they say if you've been contacted in this fashion, call the sheriff's office and report it. police meanwhile, are looking for this woman who's been accused of committing bank fraud in pleasanton. take a good look. they say she went to several banks last month and fraudulently withdrew thousands of dollars from a bank account. >> and the north bay, the vallejo community is coming together. now. they're trying to raise money for a hit and run crash victim. yeah. so this accident happened just days before christmas. it destroyed the victims. wheelchair kron four's.

lindsey ford has his story. >> the room. and doesn't to be honest? i sat there for like 10 minutes time. nobody came outside. nobody heard it. >> just 5 days before christmas, the unthinkable happened to melvin jones in valais. whoa around 11, 10 at night right outside of his home. he was struck by a car while positioning himself out of his wheelchair into his vehicle. so even cause sometimes suffer from depression, it was like a movie said jones he saw in his rear view mirror bright lights approaching closer and closer pushing keep pushing. are going. >> quick quick, quick, quick route. >> and then when door flung, you got to those winter bama wheelchair does flew in the air. did a couple of tumbles land on the ground and it ended up like in the middle of his shattered to pieces in shock after the impact, jones as he braced himself by grabbing the steering wheel.

>> and looking ahead at the driver who hit him, seen him put on a light reverse lights. >> you know, like what are >> and they took off. never even came down to see if i was all right. >> he's now using a replacement wheelchair. what's left are remains of his main wheelchair, twisted and ruined along with his car's windows. glass shattered in the street. just a lot of trauma that. that i didn't have to go through up. i would have been better. the person just stop. i would have felt a little bit better came by to check on me. >> but just not doing that. just left me in a bad place. the hit and run has left jones with a broken foot on top of already had suffered from a tragedy in 2003. >> that left him para plea, jake, from gunshot wounds on titan heard already hurt. so i got to keep getting hurt. >> what has helped melvin look to a brighter new year is his children in the community engagement. he's involved in

looking for the driver of the victim died at the scene. well, happening today, 3 oakland fire stations are going to be closing their doors because of oakland's budget crisis. you can see the list here on your screen. >> they include station 25 28 station. 10 was previously closed for remodeling and they've decided they just aren't going to reopen it. oakland firefighters say the closing of the station's means some residents may have to wait up to 10 minutes or more in case of emergencies, firefighters are going to be holding a news conference outside city hall before the first city council meeting of the new year. happening today, the open animals, animal shelter, their new hours will go into effect. now. these are the latest agencies impacted by oakland's budget crisis. the shelter posting on facebook that back in october, key positions within the shelter had to be frozen because of the ongoing financial crisis with the city. and that's impacting front counter and animal intake staff. well, as a result of that under staffing, the shelter now is going to be

surrendered and now an investigation is underway. the chp arrested oakland man for killing his wife in february of 2023. that's when police responded. should the edwards avenue off-ramp of 5.80, in oakland where they found the wife or name lucky sum mccowan. she had been shot and she died at the scene and the chp identified her husband and the fan. you'll mcallen as the primary suspect. they've had 2 years now of investigating. and now the alameda county da has filed charges against him. he was arrested on january 2nd. >> well, another bay area police department now considering using drones. santa rosa police are thinking about using them as part of their first responder program to help fight crime and respond natural disasters. they say these drones will have cameras and thermal imaging that can access flooded areas are collapsed, buildings even before first responders get there. police say this will be a lot less expensive than using a

new location. >> well, rental listing scams are becoming more elaborate. the local authority now in santa clara county is warning everybody to be on the lookout. san jose police say these types of scams are getting worse and are more difficult to nail down because they take various forms. everything from housing scams to financial fraud, identity theft, cyberattacks, all of it, health or should say officials in the south bay say you want to look out for rent that's advertised at too good to be true below. market prices probably is a scam. they also say look out for when people ask you for security deposit before you even had a chance to see the apartment. that's a big red flag. meanwhile, renters in. cupertino may be getting a reprieve from losing their homes through a new city policy. so the cupertino housing commission is recommending implementing anti displacement policies, including a push to prioritize residents facing displacement because of expiring deed restrictions on the city's affordable housing waitlist.
