slow down your commute and your flights. the kron. 4 morning news starts now. >> good morning and thanks for waking up with us. and our heads are in the clouds. i'm darya and james. yeah, not just everybody. the fog is dense this morning enough. there's an advisory in effect. sean and rain are here to guide you around and i, john, yeah. attempting to peer through the fog, the layers of it that it really shrouded out san francisco. a lot of our bridge crossings, the north bay and the coast in particular. >> getting a look at from sutro tower down into that blanket of fog. you should see the golden gate bridge down there but not a rain. we'll show you what it looks like at the bridge right now, which is not much of a view. dense fog advisories for even more of the north bay. now they've actually been extended to a wider view and then up and down the coastline of the peninsula and into san francisco areas like san jose and further inland, you're actually looking at some sunshine now for those of us

with the fog, it's going to hang out for several more hours gradually lifting more and more. so visibility will improve. then you'll get more and more of those peaks of sunshine. but it is a gradual process over the next couple of hours here. 40's for most of our current temps, oakland, you are our first spot back up at 50 degrees. hayward for spot back up to 51 as we do move into the afternoon. temperatures in the upper 50's to low 60's under eventually mostly sunny and crisp and clear air reyna. i don't think that a lot of those drivers keeping that much needed space between themselves and the car in front of them because visibility is low out there. >> a 13 minute ride on the bay bridge and everybody's been taking your time driving, especially slow this morning. while 9 along richmond, sandra fell the san mateo bridge. you're at 15 and down from 30 to 26 across the golden gate bridge starring james, back to you. thanks. a lot 901, of the breaking news. one person was killed when there was an accident, a car hit a tree and split in half to according to

chp, that crash happened sometime around one 40 this morning along highway one in pescadero out near being hollow road. we have some images >> of the scene. you can see the damage sustained by this vehicle. we're still trying to confirm if there was anybody else involved anybody else was hurt. the chp is looking to see if speed was a factor all lanes were blocked for a time during the investigation. but they've all since reopened morning. not easy driving out there. and the fog this morning and airplanes are also having trouble. there's a lot of delays. >> at the airports in the bay area, especially sfo. >> a low visibility means a lot of delays and even some cancellations as well. the delays are lasting about 54 minutes. the departing flights also could be affected by this. and when we check flightaware sfo had the most 93 delays and 10 cancellations. san jose to 21 delays. cancellations there. and then oakland. >> fairing a little better than the other 2. they've currently have 13 delays and only 2 cancellations right

now. happening now, there's another weather headline and that is the sneaker waves at the colts. yeah, it's going to kind of dangers out there by the beaches. you could easily be swept into the ocean if you're not careful. kron four's will tran live for us out of half moon bay with those safety tips will. >> the warning will be in effect until tuesday at 04:00am making it. 24 hours for you to be very careful if you're along the beaches. look at this. this is half moon bay miramar beach. it is a beautiful day, but beautiful can sometimes be deadly, especially now as the waves get closer and closer, higher and higher up the beach. so what they want you to do is be careful, never turn your back to the water. and also if you have a fur-baby, make sure your fur baby is on a leash because sometimes a sneaker wave, hence the word sneaker can come along and grab your fur baby. and of course, you being a loving parent will run into the water and could get

tragic. so make sure that your fur baby is on a leash, make sure at the very least that you are quite up the beach. so it won't come along and grab you because sneaker waves have been known to grab boulders back into the ocean. much less you. you've got to be careful, especially if it's a one-two punch of the sneaker ways and foggy conditions, which of course, can cut down on your visibility. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. well. >> time now is 903. now let's go to the east bay where thieves targeted and robbed 3 different businesses throughout oakland from saturday night into early sunday. it's become so commonplace that these businesses aren't even surprised in in this case, they're blaming teenager. yeah, we've got crawford's jacked moment with the story. oakland police say this was the first breaking of the night at extra mile store off castro street get a offers frustrated sunday afternoon to find the stories mostly closed

for the day store. employees at this extra mile didn't want to interview with kron 4. >> but they did. teenagers messed with the atm machine and it needs to be repaired. i faith that the state always at the oakland you take the good with the bad when it comes to oakland. >> open is a beautiful place with a lot of rich history. and i don't think a lot of people take value in the rich history that is open. this woman says the string of burglaries here in oakland is not shocking but just disappointing. i love oakland. she does better oakland. police then say a group of thieves targeting smoke shop off san pablo avenue just before for the morning. >> paul into state. elise of the store manager here says they didn't make out with much, took some fake jordans. everything else was left intact. it is very frustrating. >> we have to we are you have bills with pain. we've got to pay. the rent is around. the first of the mine managers here at the smoke shop. tell us they've been broken into several times over the last

year. each time they're broken into cost them thousands of dollars. this particular break-in, it's going to cost them around $20,000 to repair. >> makes me right there. and the police were not that far and they just let him juggling. lisa says her boss saw oakland police chase the team down the road, but then give up kron 4 reached out to opd to confirm this information and open. police told kron 4 that responding officers determined they have no authorization to pursue the suspects like they pretended to do the job or lisa says, despite the multiple break-ins, they don't plan on closing down just yet. but she has a message for the teens. hopefully your lesson someday. get a job and they can buy some real readings. >> oakland police say thieves also burglarized a safe way off broadway. the manager on duty at this location says the door was quickly fixed at these didn't end up taking much. this makes 5 burglaries over the last 2 weekends ago. quick kron 4 asked opd for comment on the spike in

burglaries but did not hear back reporting in oakland jacked moment. kron 4 news. >> well, 906, is the time. the san mateo county sheriff's office now warning people about a scam that's targeting the hispanic community. deputies say scammers are calling people and offering to register children into the amber alert system. but it's just a way to get confidential information and try and meet residents at their homes. it's a scam. authorities say that's not how the amber alert system works. if you've been contacted regarding something like this, they say call the sheriff's office reported. police meanwhile, are looking for this woman. take a good look. she's accused of committing bank fraud in pleasanton. they say she went into several banks last month and fraudulently withdrew thousands of dollars from a bank account. >> it's 907, and a wife a the community is coming together. they're raising money for a hit and run victim. yeah. so this accident happened just days before christmas. it destroyed the man's wheelchair. kron four's. lindsey ford has his story. >> the room. and to be honest,

i sat there for like 10 minutes per eye. nobody came outside. nobody heard it. >> just 5 days before christmas, the unthinkable happened to melvin jones in valais. whoa around 11, 10 at night right outside of his home. he was struck by a car while positioning himself out of his wheelchair into his vehicle. cause sometimes suffer from depression. it was like a movie set jones he saw in his rear view mirror bright lights approaching closer and closer pushing keep pushing injured. quick quick quick, quick quick. and then when the door flung you got to those winter bama wheelchair just flew in the air. did a couple of tumbles land on the ground and it ended up like in the middle of his shattered pieces in shock after the impact, jones as he braced himself by grabbing the steering wheel. and looking ahead at the driver who hit him, seen him

put on a light reverse lights. >> know, like we >> and they took off. everything came down to see if i was all right. >> he's now using a replacement wheelchair. what's left are remains of his main wheelchair, twisted and ruined along with his car's windows. glass shattered in the street. just a lot of trauma that. that i didn't have to go through up. i would have been better. the person with to stop field a little bit better came by. and just checking on me. >> but just not doing that. just left me in a bad place. the hit and run has left jones with a broken foot on top of already had suffered from a tragedy in 2003. >> that left him para plea, jake, from gunshot wounds on titan heard already hurt. so i got to keep getting hurt. >> what has helped melvin look to a brighter new year is his children in the community engagement. he's involved in like being the commissioner of the boys and girls club

really dense up the coast, the north bay and through san francisco. we don't see much of huge change in weather this week. we do stay notably dry all throughout the week. one thing you will notice is an offshore breeze really kicking into gear. later on this week. this led to impacts on us. we're going to see less of that coastal fog and it's going to be more of that inland to leave fog. and honestly, a little bit of haze air-quality probably not going to be as good as 2 days is by the end of the week. so really savor today's crisp, clean air that we're going to be seeing dry all the way up the north coast. we are actually looking at an extended dry period here. as you can see near 6 to ten-day precip outlook. we are drier than average all across the region. so we have settled in for a significant break from the rain likely until the 17th 18017th of the month. that's about when we start to see any sort of indicators of another system pushing through in the meantime, today is actually one of our cooler days of this week's forecast. only in the upper 50's for most in a few low 60's in spots like san jose hayward

>> 99 right now and still really thick fog out there. yeah. and advisory in effect till i think like 10 o'clock today. john. good morning. yeah. that fog especially dense for areas close to the coast in the city and up in the north bay right now. take a look at this view in san francisco can see much of anything right there at the embarcadero. compare that with whct we've got and san jose right now, which is nice, clear skies. so where you're seeing the fog is where those dense fog advisories are really lighting up at the coast. again, the city and up in the north bay and also a lot of our bridges to take it slow are in these spots. still of dense fog advisories through 10:00am this morning. we will be seeing it lifting more and more. in fact, for the east bay, you're already seeing that lifting occurring. so visibility has improved for a lot of the east bay temperatures in the 40's currently fremont at 47 berkeley at 48 degrees. oakland as well as hayward at 51. now later on today, it's upper 50's to low 60's and eventually getting back to some mostly sunny skies, right? all right, john, thanks for that. it's a cross. the

worse and she was a teenager and did not want to miss out on saturday. just just a home place, comfort place for me. >> the santa cruz wharf is a staple in the community, a place to laugh fish meet with friends and to relax. is happy that this can all continue into the new year were smaller restaurant. i just feel like all of our guests like a piece of family. so for the last 10 days. >> have been seeing members of our family. and so it just feels absolutely wonderful to be here. the open brightening their day in santa cruz. lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> it's 9.33, and oakland police sergeant is on administrative leave after shooting a man during a foot chase. it happened saturday morning. the officer shot someone firing a rifle near macarthur boulevard. was about 5 in the morning. so the officer ran after the suspect ended up shooting him. and then that man barricaded himself into a nearby home. he eventually surrendered and was arrested and the investigation into what happened is now

continuing. the chp arrested in oakland man suspected of killing his wife in february of 2023. the wife was found dead. she was shot and she was at the edwards avenue off-ramp on 5.80, in oakland. and then they decided that the husband was the prime suspect, his name is also used been identified as nayef annual mcallen. so after 2 years of investigating, the alameda county da filed the charges against him. and as you can see, he was arrested on january 2nd. >> another bay area police department now considering using drones. santa rosa police are thinking about it using it as part of their first responder program to help fight crime and aid in natural disasters. the drones have cameras and thermal sensors that can access flooded out areas are collapsed, buildings in some cases even before first responders arrive. police say this would be a lot less expensive than using helicopters and other
