2:07 pm
o'clock, we are expecting this west-northwest swell to come in and that could produce a very high risk of sneaker waves. that's probably the biggest danger from this. but we could see waves breaking up to about 20 feet possible. so obviously the advice here is to never turn your back on the ocean. so it's because this well, as moving in this west-northwest swell, when you look out here, you can actually see where these brighter colors are. that is this? well, that is where the higher wave heights are right now. and they are moving towards us now. right now, things relatively not too bad, relatively calm about 7 feet in height. you can start to see if you take those looks outside at the ocean that, you know, things are getting churned up. so if you can avoid the coast between now tomorrow afternoon, that's probably your best bet. but if you must be out there, you want to stay off of coastal jedi's. keep your eyes on kids and pets. and as i mentioned, never turn your back on the ocean. that's why we say that is because sneaker waves can come up announce. now having said that, we are starting to get some breaking this fog. but mount tam, you still still have that up there in elevation. having said that, we're seeing some sunshine. it is breaking through it in a spot like san jose. we're at

2:18 pm
in half moon bay, a beautiful day, but it can turn deadly if you're not careful because sneaker waves are known to come out of nowhere, hence the word sneaker and even take bolder is back into the ocean. much less you if you have a fur-baby, make sure your fur baby is on a leash because sometimes i speak or waive or even a normal wave can come along and grab your fur baby. and of course, you being a loving parent will rush into the water and it can be very tragic. so make sure your dog is on a leash. and then if you possibly can go higher and higher up the beach, you can see how high the waves are right now. what will make this even possibly worse is the fog. we've seen foggy conditions, which, of course, will cut down on visibility. so you got to be careful about that as well. keep in mind, it looks beautiful, but it could be dangerous, especially if
2:19 pm
you're back is to the water. so never have you back against the water. you can come here, try to stay away from the water much as you possibly can and enjoy the sights. by all means to all that you can to avoid those sneaker waves, which of course it's going to last at least for another day. back to you. >> all right. let's see what's happening outside right now. here is a look across the bay bridge. can some blue skies here. pilots here to talk about what's going on in the weather department. first of all, there, some sunshine to really nice welcome sight. after all the fog we have this morning having to say those fog advisories have all expired, including those of you in the north bay. he was hanging on there to let 2 o'clock. this is a live look downtown san francisco. you can see those rays of sunshine making their way in. that means that we're getting some temperatures that are starting to warm up a little bit here, getting a little bit warmer. you can see livermore's up to 60 degrees. san jose 60 to everyone else. >> hanging out in the 50's today. wind is relatively calm. this is going to change and i want to make sure you the heads up about this
2:20 pm
because it's going to be a little bit to get through here. what's going on is what's called an inside slider. and you might remember be talking about something like this during our fire seasons. when you get this high and low pressure kind of squeezing together, that creates a wind gradient that drives offshore wind and the big threat with that generally is that it increases fire danger because you've got dry air coming through and we have dry brush, especially the end of our summer, gets really tricky. we're very lucky that we have had rain. so we are not dealing with dry brush, not the case in southern california where this is now put them under a red-flag warning starting tomorrow. now we are fortunate that we do not have a red flag warning. however, we do have the wind advisory. so that does mean that things are going to be drying out. so as you can see, it's all pretty much interior parts of the bay area to north bay sits along the peninsula. it's also in our hills and mountains in the east bay and in the santa clara hills as well. we could see gusts upwards of 45, even 50 miles per hour. so this is going to go into effect tonight and will go through the next about about 48 hours before it's all
2:21 pm
said and done. to show you how this plays out as we get into our evening tonight. notice that wind starting to pick up particularly up in the north bay and then it starts to roll through the entire bay area. so by tomorrow morning, gusty everywhere. and it continues as we get throughout our tuesday. so as i mentioned, it's not until wednesday that kind of backs off. this is overnight tuesdoy into wednesday. so it's still going to be going in. and it really is. and until that wednesday we get later morning early afternoon, we start to see a bigger, a bigger improvement there. so just be ready for that. that wind will be coming our way now, as far as temperatures are concerned this week, we've actually got a nice lift. notice that we start to pick it up, particularly on wednesday and thursday, inland temperatures looking to be in the upper 60's. so that will be nice. and we're staying dry the next 7 days. thank you so much. the city of berkeley is encouraging residents to participate in emergency preparedness classes. the 7 class series will cover things like. >> how to respond to emergencies, basic first aid and also putting out fires the free classes start on saturday. and for more

work is back. open happened over the weekend. how are things going since then? >> yeah, we're excited to reopen the war on saturday morning to a couple 100 community members and visitors to santa cruz. it's been a busy weekend. the weather's been good. it's beautiful. we're happy to be open. on behalf of the 20 businesses, roughly 400 employees on the war, just super grateful to be this point. very happy to open and welcome everybody to come. visit. >> so how's the process of repairing the worst? because that's sort of how we got here in the first place is there were some bad storms did some damage in this. the second storms came in, knocked it away. is it going to be repaired back to the way that it was our house, that whole process going? >> yeah, it's a great questions. so right now a few and priorities, debris cleanup. so with the collapse of the war, we lost about 300 pilings in the end of the war that have really made their way down coast. so working with agencies, santa cruz, county state parks, u.s. coast

guard and the national marine sanctuary. many others to recover that debris, get the area cleaned up and minimize any further issues. the good news is we're moving all that clean up. things are moving really quickly. and for the equipment that we lost this on the seafloor, we lost a crane and a skid steer. we've located. doesn't the u.s. coast guard have a plan to remove those here in the coming weeks. but the good news is those are not presenting any further issues either to the wharf itself to public safety. we're to the environment and that broadly looking at the wharf, we've got to work master plan that really shapes the vision for the future of the and with the end of that collapsed on december 23rd, a lot of community house will welcome our community and all those who love the work. to be engaged in that conversation and that process as we talk about what's the future of for the end of the work in
2:31 pm
particular. but it's a special place. millions of visitors coming to work every year to place that we want to continue to invest in well into the future. so there has to be some thought process into how we make this. >> bigger and better than it was before. also keep it safe and make sure that this doesn't happen again. >> that's right. yeah. public safety is the key. you know, we want to be sure to welcome community members and visitors to the work we bring about 3 million visitors to work every year. again, it's a hub of both our local economy, but are local culture and community as well. so it's 110 year-old structure 111 years old. now. and it's a again, want to see thrive and be sustained well into the future. so we are proud of this place. the good news is the war is safe. we welcome people come to come out and visit, go to a restaurant. do your post holiday shopping at the war? but a special place and we look forward investing in this space well into the future. i'm sure you can
2:32 pm
understand, though, some people's hesitations of wanting to come back. >> after seeing what has happened. yeah, i think really be clear, the end of the war that was damaged on december 2030, was under construction. it had been damage from last year's storms. the storms to hit region in late 2023 in early 24. so that area had been closed off for the last year was under construction. it had been weakened pretty significantly from the storms over the past couple years. so while we were under construction, we really got got hit by the biggest u.s. well that our region has seen in the last 30 years. so the combination of being vulnerable at the end of the war from that storm, it really was that that sort of punch in the nose that led to the collapse of the work. but the good news is the remainder of the war, strong stable. it's been reviewed by our structural engineers and confirmed that it's it's a strong as it was. before the
2:33 pm
storms on december 23rd. so we feel really confident and hope to the public feels really confident coming out to the work as well as a place that we maintain with a dedicated, dedicated crew year-round, dedicated investment year-round. yeah, folks should feel very comfortable. and look forward to coming back out to the i'm sure they well, this is a tony la with the city of santa cruz. thank you for being with us this afternoon. >> congrats on getting that area open again. and good luck with the repairs. let us know how it goes. i'm good. thank you. >> in sports now it's locker cleanout time for the forty-niners. the team ended the season yesterday with the loss to the arizona cardinals. final score. 24. 47 end the season. 6.11. forty-niners quarterback brock purdy did not play in yesterday's game and he reflected on the season earlier today. think probably the hardest critical myself just in terms of like wanted to play at a high level.
2:34 pm
>> and, you know, jason, just greatness being the best version of myself u know, myself. comes to that. so more than anything, i just want to play and be the best version of brock purdy and grow to be the best quarterback. i can be. playing at a high level for myself and for my team and the guys around me. >> says he has no regrets and he is up for a contract extension that would significantly boost his salary will see if you can make that payday. >> kind of a. not going back to the super and whatever there's always next year, there was a lot of fog earlier this morning and paired with a very big snowstorm that hit the west coast. >> there are a lot of delays, a bay area airports today. we're taking a live look here at sfo. currently flight aware is reporting more than 200 delays and 10 cancellations at sfo. san jose man at a 32 delays, 10 cancellations and the local airport has 28
2:35 pm
delays and 2 cancellations. and there's this deadly winter storm that's blasting parts of the midwest and the east coast. some cities could see their heaviest snowfall in decades today. 7 states from new jersey, the kansas have declared states of emergency. there are 16 million americans in the path of the storm. tom dempsey has the latest. >> parts of the east coast could see their heaviest snowfall in decades today and it's led to a 7 different states calling states of emergency states like new jersey and kansas doing so with of around 60 million americans living in the path of this storm. but this winter weather has really caused the mess in the midwest, in particular with snow and ice making road conditions almost treacherous at times, bringing lots of different crashes, missouri. emergency crews say at least 600 drivers were stranded over the weekend. and in kentucky, a state trooper was hurt after his patrol car was state leaders urging folks to stay off the roads today.
2:36 pm
millions across the midwest are shoveling themselves out from record setting snowfall this morning storm heads east, kansas city, soft foot of snow in 24 hours with city leaders saying that's the most. they've seen their over 30 years. louisville, kentucky shattering 115 year-old record with their nearly 8 inches of snow over the weekend in areas like philadelphia to richmond, virginia are expected to be hit the worst today with some of the areas getting foot of snow. >> and the storm is also bringing heavy winds and freezing cold temperatures. wind gusts up to 45 miles an hour were recorded across the midwest over the weekend in the east coast is expected to feel temperatures up to 25 degrees below normal. the national weather service warning the northeast will feel that bitter cold for several days after this storm. but it is sure pretty to be out here on the national mall. the continuing to fall here we see people exercising some people we saw one gentleman
2:37 pm
cross-country skiing here along the national mall. very pretty to look at fun to be outside when you're walking around. but a very dangerous to be out on the roads with of any parts of the east coast dealing with this winter storm in washington, d.c., see. >> happening outside right now. >> broken yet that you're just talking about the story about the snowstorm, wanted to show everybody. if you take a look at the national map, you see all the cold air up in canada. temperatures in the single digits, even -3. if you had far enough north that airs spills down. when you have the jet stream diving to the south, it opens the door to let all of that cold air in. and that's exactly what has happened here. i mean, check it out. 30's in dallas right now. we're at 31 in atlanta, not to mention if you head over to places like wichita, which is that looking at teens. so obviously incredibly cold air in place. now, let's take a look at what's going on here as we look at stormtracker and you can see where that system is that's been dropping all of that snow now starting to work its way out, but still kind of hanging out in parts of the ohio
2:38 pm
valley heading over to the northeast. now, the interesting thing about this is if we take a look at where all of those winter storm warnings and you can see the winter weather advisories are around in and around the mid atlantic. that's for right now. but look at what happens when i put this into motion. we see this system work its way offshore, right? so that happens. but then take your eye down south about dallas, texas, and we get into thursday and here comes the next system. cold air rolling right through the south and then heading, you guessed it right up to the mid-atlantic and the northeast once again. so if you doubt that it is january, certainly the weather is showing you that it is. and there's winter storms that we look forward to for those in the eastern half of the country. all right. meanwhile, back in the bay, we're finally getting some sunshine after a very foggy start to the day today. so pretty nice working its way up to partly cloudy day tomorrow will be windy. we do have that wind advisory for a lot of our interior portions and coastal portions of the bay area. and then wednesday,
2:39 pm
we are going to have some warm temperatures that sticks with this couple of days and we look like we stay dry for the next about 10 days, at least so on that front, we're doing. okay. back to you. all right. thank you. thieves have targeted and robbed 3 different businesses throughout oakland from saturday night into early sunday morning. no arrests have been made. >> but some of the business owners are blaming teenagers. kron four's joc moment has the story. >> oakland police say this was the first breaking of the night at extra mile store off castro toppers. frustrated sunday afternoon to find the stories mostly closed for the day store employees at this extra mile didn't want to interview with kron 4, but they did. teenagers messed with the atm machine and it needs to be repaired. i faith that the state me, always at the oakland you take the good with the bad when it comes oakland. >> open is a beautiful place with a lot of rich history. and i don't think a lot of people take value in the rich history that is open. this woman says the string of burglaries here in oakland is not shocking but just
