3:05 pm
>> well, as of today, january 6, 2, fire stations in oakland, including fire station. 25 right behind me here are shut down. the firefighters who work here are expressing their frustration saying that the closures endanger public safety monday morning, oakland firefighters gathered on the steps of city hall to demand that the city reopened. the recently closed fire stations show that the city's budget prioritizes the lives of citizens of this great city. oakland is facing a budget deficit of around 129 million dollars. the city was counting on the sale of the oakland coliseum site to fill that budget gap. >> but the deal has yet to go through as a result. the city is making significant cuts to services the police department and fire department are by far oakland's largest expenses and in an effort to save money, fire stations. 25 28 will be temporarily closed station 10, which is already shut down, will remain shuttered. the fire department worries that the closures, but the people who live near those stations at risk. >> you will not have a fire engine doorstep in 4 minutes

like you would have just yesterday. you will not quickly have firefighter paramedics to help you or your family and what could have been a small blaze. for a small fire near your house will become a conflagration leaving tragedy its wake. >> the firefighters are also calling on the city and alameda county to quickly complete the sale of the coliseum site and restore services. >> and the moment the ink dries on the coliseum sale team immediately stop these dangerous and reckless closures that threaten all of oakland fire stations. 25 28 were chosen to be temporarily closed. >> because they tend to be less busy during the winter and spring months station. 21 about 4 miles away will handle the bulk of their calls for service. 25 28 could reopen later this year. but if oakland is still facing budget problems, the city has said that other stations may need to be closed. now, the firefighters who work at stations. 25 28 have been temporarily reassigned.

>> but for now in oakland, charles, clifford kron, 4 news. >> happening now, anyone going to the coast should be watching out for sneaker waves. those can sweep across beaches without warning and pull people into the water. kron four's will tran reports from half moon bay. >> the warning will last until 04:00pm tomorrow that so long this is going to be a situation as sneaker waves are getting closer and closer. >> higher and higher along the beach. this is miramar beach in half moon bay, a beautiful day, but it can turn deadly if you're not careful because sneaker waves are known to come out of nowhere, hence the word sneaker and even take bolder is back into the ocean. much less you if you have a fur-baby, make sure your fur baby is on a leash because sometimes i speak or waive or even a normal wave can come along and grab your fur baby. and of course, you being a loving parent will rush into
3:08 pm
the water and it can be very tragic. so make sure your dog is on a leash. and then if you possibly can go higher and higher up the beach, you can see how high the waves are right now. what will make this even possibly worse is the fog. we've seen foggy conditions, which, of course, will cut down on visibility. so you got to be careful about that as well. keep in mind, it looks beautiful, but it could be dangerous, especially if you're back is to the water. so never have you back against the water. you can come here, try to stay away from the water as much as you possibly can and enjoy the sights. by all means to all that you can to avoid those sneaker waves, which of course it's going to last at least for another day. >> all right. let's talk about what's happening on the coast right now outside. >> the city of san francisco cobro go in the weather center with details on what's going
3:09 pm
on at the beach. as will mention the beach hazard statement from the national weather service does go between now and 4 o'clock on tuesday with that means is that is going to be the most dangerous time to be at the coast. now, the biggest risk from this is probably going to be those sneaker waves, right? they could come up quickly sweep you off your feet. so the advice here is that you want to stay away from the coast if you can, and certainly do not want to turn your back on the ocean. we could have breaking waves up to about 20 feet at right now. not seeing that. you can see where this well, as though and as i've been through the day today, those lows brighter colors. that's where those higher waves are. that's been rolling towards us. it will take its time to get here. right now. we're just seeing wave heights of about 7 feet. but, you know, as we go closer to this, getting to us, it will kind of start to see that all go up. so that's just something that we're going to be contending with. now, obviously the advice here is to stay away from the coast, if you can, that would be the number one thing to do, but also stay off of coastal jedi's for sure. keep your eyes and kids and pets as well as mentioning and again, just have to say it again because you can't say that up. never turn your back on the ocean.
3:10 pm
live look outside right now from mount tam. and you can sse where we do still have some of that fog that is up at elevation. but we are getting some sunshine down at the surface. temperatures start to warm up a bit. mostly 50's out there. but a few 60's south bay. certainly one of those spots as we go throughout the night tonight, you'll see get a little bit of clearing here and then tomorrow it does not look like we have the same kind of a fog situation as we did this morning. so it should pull back and be a little bit better for us all. be back in a bit. we'll talk about our 7 day forecast. there was a gas leak at the laguna honda hospital campus in san francisco that temporarily prompted some evacuations this morning. >> the san francisco department of public health says a contractor working on the campus damaged a gas line staff and the administration building were evacuated for about an hour as crews work to cap the leak. the hospital building was not impacted and no residents or patients were evacuated. in the south bay police arrested a man and a woman for allegedly selling and supplying drugs and guns across several bay area. cities. here's a picture of

3:15 pm
appointment comes as the city and the u.s. department of justice have reached an agreement to address corruption in the police force. one thing to have agreement, quite another to have enforced cautious optimism from civil rights attorney john burris. he reacts to an agreement, the city of antioch and its police department reached last week with the u.s. department of justice resolving a race discrimination investigation launched by the doj. >> back in 2022, during the course of the investigation, nearly half of any angst police officers were put on leave while the feds looked into racist text messages exchanged by officers leading to a larger corruption scandal resulting in convictions. i do have concerns about and i don't know that we should be jumping for joy right now. this is just the first step. >> but the devil's in the details and they have not been worked out yet and time with. >> what caliber is represents, at least 26 clients in civil cases against the police department, some of whom have had charges reduced in court

from fallout from the scandal. he also represented plaintiffs in the open writers case which led to federal monitoring over that police department, which continues today whether or not the police department will have them. >> the 42 to stick to foggy agreement is an open question and one that even if you may have good intentions now it's a long to ultimate success. and that will diligence on their pie and certainly need someone to monitor them, hold feet to the fire. the agreement stipulates the police department will hire an expert law enforcement consultant jointly selected by both sides to review and update police policies, procedures and training on non discriminatory policing. use-of-force and other issues and tasks. the department with the collection and monitoring of the data collected for 5 years agreements overwhelming. >> but but there are a lot of holes with also, you know, federal government puts out who's going to enforce. fell.

i'm concerned about that. the police department acknowledges the federal investigation revealed failures. it is committed to ensuring never happen again. >> philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> well, take a live look outside right now. so we can talk about our forecast with a look here at the embarcadero are starting to see some blue skies right now. a lot of fog was sticking around. there's lots to talk about in the weather center right now. so let's send things over to kyla. yeah, let's take a look at it. it is nice to have the fog on the blue skies are taking over. and you can see that here at the golden gate bridge looking pretty good there. temperatures obviously reflecting that. >> we finally got a little bit of warming going on here. mostly 50's out there. you can see san jose made it up to the 61 degree mark. all right. let's talk about the wind because right now you can see it's picking up out of half moon bay, about 17 miles per hour. what we have going on here is we're going to see wyat's called an inside slider, which means we've got low pressure kind of sliding to the inside of california that has counter clockwise circulation, high pressure sitting off the coast,
3:18 pm
clockwise circulation, those to come together and they create a wind greedy and we get offshore wind which in general, we talk about what we're worried about fire danger during our fire season. now that is what's going to happen, dad, because we've had rain. we are not under the red flag warning that you see in southern california starting tomorrow for us. it is just going to be a wind advisory and that is, you know, a better scenario, but still want to look out for this when we could see gusts up to about 50 miles per hour. and you can see it's pretty widespread here. so it's north bay interior mountains and hills. also, you can see the marine hills and then down along the peninsula coastline. and then as you head to the inner east bay and also the santa clara hills are all involved in this. let me show you future cast here with the wind gusts. and you can see as he gets up to about 30 miles per hour in fairfield as we get into later evening hours. and then it really picks up tomorrow and it keeps going right through the day on tuesday. you can see it's very widespread even into tuesday into the overnight hours. some of these numbers still very high won't really relent until we get into wednesday. now the upside
3:19 pm
of this offshore wind is that we're also going to see some of these temperatures start to rise. so notice the inland temperatures they're getting into potentially mid to upper 60's as we get into wednesday and thursday. so again, there's that high pressure that's sitting off the coast there. and that is going to be part of what kind of brings this together, but will be a windy day tomorrow. so just be ready for that. and by wednesday, pretty nice, beautiful sunshine as we roll through the rest of the week. vice president kamala harris presided over a joint session of congress today. >> where lawmakers voted to certify former president elect donald trump's election. the certification was a stark contrast to the one on 1/6/2021, when rioters stormed the capitol, washington correspondent basil john reports. >> despite a snowstorm here in dc senators and representatives filled the house floor and certified the 2024 election results without today, america's democracy
