murder in connection to a san francisco shooting last week that injured 2 people. one of them, a social worker now in critical condition. kron four's sara stinson spoke with her mom. she joins us now with the details. sarah. >> that's right. i spoke with daniel drake's mom on the phone as her daughter fights for her life to me says she's calling on her daughter's employer to have more security on site for social workers. also spoke with a woman who lives in the building where the shooting happened. she just couldn't believe what unfolded >> oh, my god. while shot by the same person. >> a christie abrams in shock learning the details of a shooting that happened inside her building at mercy housing that injured 2 people. it happened last thursday morning around 10 at the supportive housing building on bryant street across from the hall of justice. the complex is home to people who are formally unsheltered. according to the san francisco district attorney's office. 49 year-old monique davis punch someone multiple times inside the

elevator. prosecutors say davis then grabbed a pistol from her room when down to the lobby and opened fire. a social worker was shot in the face. another person was shot in the arm. police arrested davis about a mile away mercy housing partners with up a scuffle. community service is the executive director beth stokes released a statement saying in part our thoughts and prayers go out to the ecs and mercy staff who were grievously injured by this senseless act of violence. ecs will do everything in our power to support the victims, their families, our staff and our residents. as we navigate these challenging circumstances. stokes also says their top priority is the safety and well-being of residents and staff abram says mercy housing put out a notice to residents. center. >> paper around about it. but all other day was a referred to it as incident without seeing water was. i didn't know where it happened. you

know, i haven't felt unsafe here. >> but abrams says this shooting has rattled others. there's people here saying they're going leave the building. >> davis was in court today facing several charges. the district attorney's office says she committed this crime while out on bail for another. so the da moved to have her behind bars pending trial due to the public safety risk. she poses. i'm sara stinson reporting back to. >> sarah, thank you. the man convicted of kidnapping and assaulting denise huskins in the so-called delay. hogan girl case is facing new charges in another bay area kidnapping. matthew mueller was charged today with a 2015 kidnapping in contra costa county last week. he was charged with a series of 2009 home invasions in santa clara county. prosecutors say these new charges stem from recent confessions he made in prison letters. mueller is serving a 40 year sentence for kidnapping and huskins as documented in the netflix series american nightmare.

hoskins is set to appear in monterey county tomorrow at seaside city hall to talk about the new charges. again, smaller. >> the usually quiet city of alameda now dealing with a series of break-ins and robberies. kron four's. lindsey ford has more. >> i'm standing in the marina village parkway plaza in front of the 3.60, gore mabry toes, which was vandalized and burglarized last week. additionally in the same plaza, a lucky california was also looted. >> growing. if everywhere. more the fitting cities. i surprised. think >> javier benitez, owner of 3.60, degrees. gore mabry toes is still reeling from the break-in last week, burglars smashed the window of the store at the marina village parkway center and took a register that had $1000 inside. >> maybe 20% say it's it's got

that this is going to do have that much money here. >> additionally store payment processing i pads wrist stolen and security cameras were destroyed. he now has use this older system to ring up customers. benitez says this was his first time getting targeted in all. 35 years of being in business. i mean, i we see more and more especially these sending multiple other stores in alameda have been hit lucky, california in the same plaza as 3.60, gourmet burritos was looted twice. also popular beauty stores all to and sally's beauty was broken into and the front door of ease alameda. a cannabis store was vandalized but nothing stolen. we are going to hold those who have >> committed crimes in our city accountable. and i'm looking forward to some follow up on this story. >> and let me to police chief joshi says these recent crimes are suspected to be linked. we have some leads. we have. >> we're putting a case together and i'm confident

that there will be resolution to that. these events. >> alameda police tell me that they are looking at transit patterns to solve these specific crimes and additionally through license plate reader technology at the exit and entry ways into the city. additionally, business owners are also helping to solve these cases by sharing their security footage in alameda, lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> thank you, lindsay taking a live look now at downtown san francisco where the fog has moved back in. is pretty cool of. yeah. like like way they did. the buildings are popping up through and all that. but it looks like we're in store for a bit of a change here. what's happened, larry? yeah, some of that wind going road that fog disappear overnight tonight and tomorrow those winds will be kicking up outside. so the dense fog moving out of town. but >> it was thick in spots around the bay area today. tonight, that fog kind of settling in again around the bay area out over the bay right now. couple patches out

there, but won't be long. those winds already beginning to show up a bit. we're gonna see more of that on the way. it remains dry out there right now. no rain to speak of us. doppler radar scanning your skies are looking good right now. high pressure overhead that ridge is going to be sticking around as it does. it's going to bring with it some very nice weather compared to the rest of country. incredible weather. but the winds start to pick up the scene toward fairfield. start to see that northerly wind to 18. that's a sign of things to come. wind advisories now up across the entire bay area as we're expecting around some gusty winds through late tonight and into a good part of wednesday as well as we're going to see those winds continuing on and off. normally winds here. the forecast models overnight tonight, some of those gusts 40, maybe 50 miles per hour, strongest winds over the mountain tops along the coastal range east bay hills, parts of the north bay. that continue throughout the afternoon tomorrow. but on the top side of that, likely see temperatures well into the 60's, maybe some 70's for the weekend. we'll talk more about that coming up a few minutes, lawrence. thanks a lot.

oakland leaders have appointed council member kevin jenkins to take over the position of mayor at least temporarily. >> this comes ahead of a special election in april to decide who will permanently lead the city. and we're learning tonight that former congresswoman barbara lean could be in the running to daily filed campaign finance paperwork with the secretary of state's office signaling a possible run for mayor this spring. she now joins 13. others who have registered with the secretary of state's office so far. former congresswoman will confirm her campaign in the coming days. lee served in congress for 26 years. and her term just ended last week. barbara lee should expect to answer the question. >> why are you doing this at age? 78? do you have the strength, the stamina and the commitment. >> jenkins is now oakland's 3rd mayor in less than a month. he takes over the reins from nikki fortunato bas who was elected to the alameda county board of supervisors basabe in the interim mayor since december 17th.

>> following the recall of former mayor sheng thao. >> there were other major changes at today's oakland city council meeting 3 new city council members were sworn in and former council member rebecca kaplan was appointed to fill the seat of nikki fortunato bas who want a seat on the alameda county board of supervisors. the new members of the council spoke about their goals of moving the city forward. >> this is an all-hands-on-deck moment for oakland. then we rise and fall on the strength of our ability to work together. and i know that we have some really tough times ahead. >> both locally and at the national level. and yet my heart is overjoyed for the opportunity to work alongside all of you really help up with oakland and create in oakland. that serves as a positive vision for other cities. and i know that we can do this together. thank you. >> the special election to fill the seat left open now by nikki fortunato. bas will be held at the same time as the special mayoral election on

april 15. the ongoing bird flu crisis has turned deadly in the united states. health officials in louisiana confirming the first human death from the virus today in the bay area. the infections are leading to shortages of eggs. >> kron four's zac moment reports. >> this is a safe way in pleasant hill with no eggs insight. this is another safeway in san francisco's financial district. this one in milpitas get the picture. i've heard that it's pretty that i've heard about avian flu late rosa got his hall of shopping done at the safeway in midtown san jose. he didn't even bother going after the all that was left. were these broken once? it's not like an essential for me. so when they get expensive or hard to find, i just wish other other things. >> that are available. you better get ready to spent at san jose's lying market off saratoga. it's 10 bucks for a dozen white eggs at $22 for brown eggs. the usda has been tracking the slow but steady

traveling around the next couple of hours, be careful out there. it is right down on the deck. in fact, we're seeing some of that out toward the golden gate bridge tonight as we speak. and so some of these bridges are going across. boy, you can just hardly see your way across the bridge right now. you can see that out there right now. the fog, elaine, right down on the deck. so we're gonna see more of that as we head toward the next couple of hours. something else we're seeing. >> a large waves moving in along the coastline. had these big storms this winter generating the swells along the coast of more of that on the way. in fact, yeah, we've got some big waves rolling in again. we could see 20 footers moving in along the coastline as we head through the day tomorrow. so be careful along the coast led show on the rocks. you got to stay away from the water's edge. some dangerous waves headed in that direction. meantime, though, we've got this dome of high pressure that is now building in other parts of the country suffering from all the cold. but it's going to really send all these storms well to the north of the bay area. so we're going to tyis ridge of high pressure, those offshore winds. these temperatures are going to be rather balmy and warm the coming day 60's,

maybe some 70's. we might get a couple record breakers as that offshore wind continues to kind of settle in there. the downside of that not going to see any rain in the heart of our wet season and looks like the next couple days. boy, high pressure really just taken over. you see those offshore winds continuing. and that's going continue right into the next few days. the weekend we see more of a sea breeze kicking in just briefly them backed off shore winds again, as we start out next week. and here we go again. temperatures well above the average precipitation. unfortunately, long-range forecast well below the average in the middle. supposedly wet season. so i think changing out the door tonight. you're gonna see those overnight lows. 40's and some 50's out there. the winds begin to pick up across parts of the north and the east. you see that really ramping up by tomorrow morning should be going fairly strong. look at the temperatures. do you get that offshore wind that sinking air dryers that approaches the coastline. gonna be near 70 degrees in a battle tomorrow. looking at 67 degrees in san jose. 66 in fremont about 67 degrees in oakland. so the upside on this. yeah, it's going to be dry. but it's gonna be

beautiful. outside temperatures may be hitting 70 degrees on wednesday and looks like maybe the couple near record-breaking temperatures around the bay area. but right now cannot find the raindrop in sight for january. and no more of this creepy looking fog. the kind looking fog is going away for now. we might see cape because we had all that rain and all that wet weather. but that rain unfortunately gone away for now, maybe for a while. all right. thanks, lauren. thanks. >> lawyers for the embattled san mateo county sheriff s% christina corpus filed a claim against the county last month arguing the corpus is a victim of discrimination, harassment and defamation. corpus is currently accused of racism, homophobia and many other things. her lawyer says the investigation into the allegations against her was missing key evidence and done for legal reasons. >> the typical practices you interview all of your witnesses under oath in the tape recorder. videotape them or both. in this case, only one witness was videotaped

tape, rather. and that's because he insisted on it. >> sheriff scheduled to give a press conference today, but it was canceled. her lawyer says it's because new information was discovered over the weekend. that needs to be members have placed an y board - amendment on the march ballot asking voters to give them power to remove sheriff corpus from office. still to come in sports, the niners out of the playoffs and cleaning out their lockers swat team that say about it. say about it. >> disappointing season.
