>> at 6. >> good morning. and thanks for waking up with us on a windy one of area and i'm james. yeah, that seems to be the big weather headline this morning. those winds out there and i can't tell where it was coming from because it was swirling around technique coming from all directions. it's generally an offshore wind. so it's coming from inland and pushing out towards the coast and it is a dry wind at that, too. so it is upping fire danger for southern california who hasn't seen all the winter rain that we've tapped into in the bay looking outside at the embarcadero. you can see just rip-roaring that wind is through the bay this morning. very much so something you'll notice on your bridge crossings. we're sitting with gusts of nearly 50 miles per hour already for some of our mountain sides says something. you'll notice and something that does remain through tomorrow. temperature wise, we're actually fairly mild for most areas. a lot of us holding on to the 50's this

ones who file charges after continuing to talk to matthew mueller. 47 years old, who, by the way, is a former marine. they were talking to him in prison. he faces 40 years in prison for being convicted for denise huskins in that particular case, while he's revealing new details and that's why the charges actually were filed yesterday. this on top, a recent charges coming out of santa clara county. continues to mount for matthew mueller. not the first burst onto the scene back in 2015 in vallejo in the case that daria mention the gone girl case where denise huskins and her boyfriend were at their valais whole home when she was abducted, taken to tahoe at his cabin by matthew mueller sexually assaulted and then driven to orange county and then released on ransom. the case was so outrageous that many people in society did not believe it, including the vallejo police department.

it turns out everything denise huskins and her boyfriend said was in fact true. in fact, there's a netflix documentary about all of that. the latest charges, just something to add on top of matthew mueller. this case as far as his involvement, he claims that he wants to help prosecutors and law enforcement strengthen victims rights to help them as well. while he's behind bars, he is a former harvard graduate. he is also a former attorney in this particular case skies that dates back to 2015 in unincorporated san ramon worsened alleged kidnap for ransom as well. we do know that a little bit later today. denise huskins, she will join a news conference and she we'll talk about the latest charges against matthew mueller. back to thanks a lot. well. >> 603, is the time elsewhere in the east bay, the usually quiet city of alameda is now dealing with a series of

plate reader technology at the exit and entry ways into the city. additionally, business owners are also helping to solve these cases by sharing their security footage in alameda, lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> richmond police are urging people be extra careful because they've seen an uptick in robberies around the city. there. there have been more than 30 robbery since december. 1st. so the police say if you are out and about stay away or be aware of your surroundings, don't be distracted and trust your gut as well. if something seems wrong, get out of their travel in groups whenever possible as well. and if you see something suspicious, report it to the police. police in antioch are investigating 2 separate shootings that happened on the same day. one man was killed and another victim is in critical condition. police responded to one shooting around 10 in the morning on monday and that was off of rockford drive. they found a 26 year-old man who had been

shot several times. he was taken to the hospital where he ended up dying. and then earlier that morning there was a shooting and a robbery at gentry town park around one in the morning. the victim in that case is in critical condition. >> meanwhile, a change in leadership is coming to the antioch police department. city leaders are expected to appoint a new acting chief of police this week. the appointment comes as the city and department of justice resolve the race discrimination case that started back in 2022, the investigation resulted in nearly half of the antioch police officers being put on leave for racist text messages and a larger corruption scandal. it also led to several convictions part of this agreement. now, as for officers to get training on non discriminatory policing, use of force and other issues, civil rights attorney is considered the agreement, a milestone but still have concerns. >> real concerned about a back and forth enough for the green that although we like it in principle, the truck front of

tape recorder. videotape them or both. in this case, only one witness was videotaped tape, rather. and that's because he insisted on it. >> the sheriff was scheduled to give a press conference on monday. but cancel that in the end. her lawyer says it's because new information with discovered over the weekend that needs to be sorted out. san mateo county board members have placed an amendment on the march ballot asking voters to give them the power to remove the sheriff from office. >> oakland firefighters are speaking out against the temporary closure of some fire stations. the city closed fire station. 25 28 yesterday to try to deal with that 129 million dollar budget deficit. the firefighters gathered on the steps of city hall and they are demanding the city river. staton decision. the city chose to close stations. 25 28 saying they tend to be less busy during the winter and the spring and they estimate this six-month closure of both of

those stations will save the city about 5 million dollars. but the firefighters say those closures are putting lives at risk. >> you will not have a fire engine doorstep in 4 minutes like you would have just yesterday. you will not quickly have firefighter paramedics to help you or your family and what could have been a small blaze. for a small fire near your house will become a conflagration leaving tragedy its wake. >> firefighters also say the city and the county, they want them to quickly complete the sale of the coliseum site and restore services. the city was counting on the sale of the coliseum to fill the budget gap. and also in the east bay, the martinez refinery company is giving residents a heads up about more traffic noise and flaring that you could notice in the coming months. the refinery says they're going to be doing a maintenance project from early january, which is now through early april. and so because of that, they say

couple is arrested now san jose in connection with a narcotics investigation. police say they uncovered more than a dozen illegal guns and drugs and thousands of dollars and designer brands and jewelry. investigators say the couple routinely grow from stockton to the bay area to sell those drugs. the famed taco bell cantina in pacifica has temporarily closed. it's well, there's a sign posted outside the restaurant reading closed her remodel. it's unknown what the exact date is for that talk about reopen. but it's pretty popular all as long as the real was a time for the mavericks. great view. >> the san francisco bay ferry is announcing a 16% ridership gain in twenty-twenty 4. looks like a lot of people choosing to sale their way to work during the course of the year. the shuttle about 2.6 million passengers across the bay. on average, the daily ridership was 7,000 passengers and that represents recovery to 90% of

hour gusts at times today. and yes, some high wind advisories not just today, but through 10:00am of tomorrow for almost all of the bay area. temperature wise, we're hanging out in the 60's and san francisco today as well as along the coastline. definitely warmer than yesterday was no fog either. so this morning, once the sun comes up, you're about to have a brilliant sunrise and then a really enjoyable feeling afternoon with those strong winds. that is the inconvenience. the hiccup to an otherwise really beautiful forecast and definitely a warmer than average day for this time of the year. we should be a lot cooler than this. looking ahead. we don't have any cool downs nor rain disrupting the dry trend for quite a while. in fact, a lot of long-range models not indicating any chance of rainfall tell around the 17th 18017th of the month. >> i've not seen a bunch of we are seeing those windy conditions along our highways. so that means definitely those

high profile vehicles we'd be driving us. locals i cam this morning green a line along the peninsula east bay also looking good bridge traffic starting to build gradually about 40 minutes. meteor lights are on there. the richmond, sandra fell bridge about 10, no major delays or issues. the are going to happen on 80 over in the east bay crockett down towards the maze. just short of 20 minutes, some possible avenue, a good alternate for getting around that area. gyms, back to you. >> thank you. reyna 6.17, is the time and oakland leaders have appointed councilmember kevin jenkins to take over the position of mayor temporarily in this comes ahead of a special election in april. that will decide who will permanently take that office and leave the city. and we're learning the former congresswoman barbara lee could be in the running on monday. she filed campaign finance paperwork with the secretary of state's office, signaling a possible run for mayor this spring. she's among 13 people who have registered with the secretary of state's office so far. the former congresswoman will confirm her campaign in the coming days.

shirley is live now in washington with the latest. good morning. hey there. good morning to both of you as well. president carter's remains will arrive here in washington later this morning. >> ahead of thursday's funeral at the national cathedral. former president jimmy carter will leave his home state of georgia this morning heading to the nation's capital one last time president carter's remains will be here, but it will be years war. a line state for visitors can see the president's remains are expected to be seen by thousands of visitors between today and thursday. when you leave the capitol headed for the national cathedral, think about servant leadership which on track that i learned in the army. president carter and bodies that in so many ways before the former president's remains arrive at the capitol today, his motorcade will pause at the u.s. naval memorial in honor of his navy service. afterwards. a ceremony will welcome him into the capitol. where is family will then be given private time with his remains before

>> one person has been arrested for evading chp officers in oakland while driving a stolen u haul. this happened back on december 3rd and there's the u haul. officers identified. the box truck as stolen and they attempted at first to pull the driver over the driver sped off, though, through east oakland on 8.80, and ultimately veered off into the canal that you see there and had rear tire was out. the driver ran. >> but then was arrested and booked into jail 6.24. right now, the north bay, the sonoma county sheriff's office arrested a motorcyclist who led deputies on a high-speed chase. this happened sunday the area of highway 101 and college avenue. you can see the chopper tracking this chase as the deputy tried to pull over the ryder, the writer had no license plate on the bike. the speeds exceeded 100 miles an hour for this chase. and the chp used the chopper to track down the bike eventually pulled over along redwood highway.

>> in the north bay, more than 60 janitorial and custodial workers are scheduled to lose their jobs next month at the california medical facility in vacaville. that facility is a male only prison and it's at the forefront of a labor dispute. the facility was established to meet the medical needs of incarcerated males in state prison. the labor union representing the workers argues that facility is in violation of state law because they were subcontracted through a company and not hired a state employees back in august. the state personnel board order the california correctional health care services to work out a solution with the labor union. however, the workers contract was terminated early by the state personnel board. we reached out to labor union and the california medical facility for comment. we'll let you know when we hear back. short-term rental property owners in marin have 6 months now to apply for a new license last year. marin county supervisors approved new regulations. those know these new rules kept the number of short-term rentals to 1200 for properties in

restaurant was fined more than $3,000 in wages to the employee as a result. >> well, another big story that we're following this morning. a woman has now been charged with attempted murder in connection with the san francisco shooting last week that injured 2 people. one of them is a social worker and now they are in critical condition. 4 sarah stinson spoke with her mom. >> i spoke with daniel drake's mom on the phone as her daughter fights for her life to me says she's calling on her daughter's employer to have more security on site for social workers. i also spoke with a woman who lives at the building where this shooting happened. she couldn't believe what unfolded. >> oh, my god. all shot by the same person. >> christie abrams in shock learning the details of a shooting that happened inside her building at mercy housing that injured 2 people. it happened last thursday morning around 10 at the supportive housing building on bryant street across from the hall of

justice. the complex is home to people who are formally unsheltered, according to the san francisco district attorneys office. 49 year-old monique davis punch someone multiple times inside the elevator. prosecutors say davis then grabbed a pistol from her room when down to the lobby and opened fire. a social worker was shot in the face. another person was shot in the arm. police arrested davis about a mile away mercy housing partners with a fist couple community service is the executive director beth stokes released a statement saying in part our thoughts and prayers go out to the ecs and mercy staff who were grievously injured by this senseless act of violence. ecs will do everything in our power to support the victims, their families, our staff and our residents. as we navigate these challenging circumstances. stokes also says their top priority is the safety and well-being of residents and staff abram says mercy housing put out a notice to residents. center.
