serving a 40 year sentence for sexually assaulting and kidnapping. denise huskins. and he was the one who allegedly confessed to them what he allegedly did 10 years ago in unincorporated san ramon in alleged kidnap for ransom case. the same case about denise huskins, who, by the way, guys, she will have a news conference at noon today which we will cover now. denise huskins back in 2015, she and her for a friend were living in vallejo at the time she was kidnapped, taken to lake tahoe where she was sexually assaulted. then driven down the southern california. then there was a ransom saying that unless you pay it, we won't really it was so spectacular that nobody believed it, including the vallejo police department. i actually covered the case. it turns out everything she said was true and of late hope police department to actually were sued by huskins and her boyfriend. as far as matthew

>> and richmond, police are urging you to be extra careful if you're there. they've seen around the city an uptick in robberies and they have some advice. they've seen 30 robberies since december first. so they're saying when you are out be aware of your surroundings, avoid being distracted, like, for example, having you know your phones in an hour talking to somebody and not paying attention to what's around you. trust your instincts of is something feels wrong or if you see something suspicious, it may be so reported. keep your valuables out of sight and travel with a group if possible. police in antioch are investigating 2 shootings that happened on monday. one was deadly. the officers responded to a shooting around 10 in the morning on monday yesterday off of rockford drive. and that's where they found a 26 year old man who had been shot multiple times. he ended up dying at the hospital and then earlier that morning there was another shooting and that case the victim was also robbed at gentry towne park around

midnight and that victim, that person is in critical condition. >> well, meanwhile, a change in leadership is coming to the antioch police department. city leaders are expected to appoint a new acting chief of police this week. that appointment comes as the city and department of justice resolve a race discrimination cases started back in 2022. that investigation resulted in nearly half of antioch police officers being put on leave for racist text messages and a larger corruption scandal. it also led to several convictions. part of this agreement is for officers to receive training on non-discriminatory policy policing, use of force and other issues. now we heard from civil rights attorneys who say this agreement is a milestone. yes, but they still have concerns. >> real concerns about different back and forth enough for the green that although we like it in principle, the truck front of duck tale. what we're trying to get done as well. but i do have concerns about whether or not the police department will

now for southern california, this offshore wind, your santa ana winds down there are actually resulting in some heightened fire danger, not as much of threat here in northern california because we've already had our winter rains kick into gear. and that's your fire. risk is much lower. temperatures are going to be mild. but with those winds still keep the jackets with you, we've got 30 to even 50 mile per hour gusts at times both today and into tomorrow with high wind advisories for most of the bay area for both days. now, i mentioned those temperatures being really nice and comfortable. as you can see, we're reaching mid 60's in areas like the city as well as even the coastline and solid mid 60's elsewhere, too. bruno at 66 today nearing 70 degrees for a few spots in the south bay with san jose and santa clara at 67 for your highs. east bay temperatures, not much different. hayward and oakland at 66 danville, san ramon at 63 today, while vallejo and benicia also rising into the mid 60's for your highs. look ahead

tomorrow's temps. very similar to today's. we are going to stay on the steady trend of sunshine and just enjoy double feeling weather all the way into next week. >> thank you, john time. that's 10 15. the san mateo sheriff's office has arrested a man now for an alleged attempted burglary outside the slack, national except accelerator laboratory. so sunday night deputies were called out there to report of a suspicious person on the property with bolt cutters. checked that property and spotted the suspect as he was running away toward interstate 2.80, with the help from the sheriff's canine officers. the suspect was found. it was hiding nearby and was taken into custody. well, just days after a costly break-in, uc berkeley satellite campus enrichment apparently was burglarized again. thieves apparently getting away this time with thousands of dollars worth of tools. sunday. you see police were alerted to reports of the break-ins at 4 buildings. suspects stole tools valued at about $2000.

if you have any information on who was behind this call, you see police. >> a person was arrested for evading the chp in oakland while driving this stolen uhaul. this was on december 3rd when officers started following the box truck, they attempted to pull the driver over, but the driver sped off through east oakland and then on to 8.80, and ultimately ended up veering off the road and and crashing into this can now the driver tried to make a run for it but was arrested and booked into jail. in the north bay. the sonoma county sheriff's office arrested a motorcyclist who led deputies on a high-speed chase. this happened on sunday highway 101 in college avenue is the area. a deputy tried to pull over the writer cause there was no license plate on the bike. but the motorcycle took off got to speeds of 100 miles an hour and then the office used helicopter units to track down that bicycle. that motorcycle writer to this parking lot on old redwood highway and

deputies were able to arrest the writer. >> 10, 17 is the time open leaders have a point councilmember kevin jenkins to take over the position of mayor temporarily. all of this ahead of that special election in april. that will ultimately decide who will lead the city on a more permanent basis. but we're learning this morning that former congresswoman barbara lee could be in the running on monday. she filed campaign finance paperwork with the secretary of state's office, which signals a possible run for mayor this spring. she'll be joining 13 other people who have registered with the secretary of state's office so far. the former congresswoman will confirm her campaign in the coming days. so we'll wait to hear what chance to say. we served in congress for 26 years. her term ended just last week, although some are questioning her age. barbara lee should expect to answer the question. >> why are you doing this at age? 78? do you have the strength, the stamina and the commitment. >> jenkins is oakland's 3rd

board order the california correctional health care services to work out a solution with the labor union. however, the workers contract was terminated early by the state per and the california medical facility for comment. we'll let you know when we hear back. short-term rental property owners in marin have 6 months to apply for a new license last year. marin county supervisors approved new regulations and these new rules cap the number of short-term rentals to 1200 for properties that are in unincorporated areas of the county. the licenses are limited to one per operator and it has to be renewed by those property owners every 2 years. among other regulations as well. now anyone who's looking to continue operating the rental unit has until july 1st to submit a renewal application. >> the martinez refining company is giving residents a heads up that there could be more traffic, more noise and flaring in the coming months. the refinery is going to be doing a maintenance project

victim's husband, nathaniel mcallen, as the primary suspect. now, 2 years after investigations began, the alameda county da has filed felony charges, including one count of murder. one count of corporal injury to a relationship partner and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon with priors mcallen, as a result faces up to 56 years to life in prison if convicted. his arraignment is set for this coming thursday. >> time now said 46 in walnut creek. police say a safeway employee was robbed in the store's it happened over the weekend at the store on tice valley boulevard. that's where a woman first stole some alcohol from the store, got into a car and the man inthe car pointed a gun at the worker and then took off the victim was not hurt. and police are looking for the suspects. 2 people were arrested for skis, stealing at least one golf cart. they didn't get very far. this

the san francisco bay ferry is announcing more people are riding a 16%. >> ridership gain in 2024. during the course of the year. the ferry shuttled about 2.6 million passengers across the bay on average daily ridership was about 7,000 passengers which represents recovery to 90% of pre-pandemic levels. and the service also launched 3 pilot routes to caring about 55 1000 passengers last year. major developments when it comes to being carried by high speed rail in california. construction of the tracks for the high speed rail project are going to happen in kern county this year. and governor newsom says we can count on that happening. the tracks being laid down this spring, but it's been a long time. the project was approved by voters in 2008 and it's taken 16 years to green light construction. plus, the costs
