12:16 pm
the bay area. infections are leading to eggs shortages. kron four's jack moment reports. >> this is a safe way in pleasant hill with no eggs insight. this is another safeway in san francisco's financial district. this one in milpitas get the picture. i've heard that it's pretty that i've heard about avian late rosa got his hall of shopping done at the safeway in midtown san jose. he didn't even bother going after the eggs. all that was left. were these broken once? it's not like an essential for me. so when they get expensive or hard to find, i just wish other other things. >> that are available. you better get ready to spent at san jose's lion market off saratoga. it's 10 bucks for a dozen white eggs at $22 for brown the usda has been tracking the slow but steady increase in egg prices over the last several months. putting a big squeeze on the system is avian influenza, which the usda says led to the loss of nearly 40 million egg-laying hens.
12:17 pm
>> and safeway employees tell us they are getting fewer eggs delivered to them and customers are buying more and more each time for the very high and that bakery and cafe. that hearts you zehe's the cakes use eggs and even the homemade mayonnaise on there. but uses a no matter what even expensive be. no choice hawk is the store manager here and says they have no choice but to buy eggs. a crate of 180 of them a couple years ago. >> with 20 bucks and now so it led to their fruit tarts jumping from a couple bucks to nearly $10 resulting. >> and some angry customers. this is divided price to highs >> i not to so many in. yeah. be than even don't grocery has started to make vegan cakes that don't use not a good as the original, but hawkes says it's something. >> until the market cools down. >> but this better than nothing, you know, and we have option. well, that all
12:18 pm
customers may have to wait a little bit longer before things improve with the egg market. the usda says it could take up to the 2nd half >> of 2025. before things improve reporting here in san jose jacmel. but kron 4 news. >> we'll talk about forecast now with this live look outside across the golden gate bridge. it's nice and sunny out there today. kyle is here with details on what's going yet. beautiful from the east bay to see. take a live look different than yesterday, right? we had all the fog and you can see anything. but today you can see straight to the golden gate bridge. >> no problem whatsoever. so want to talk about the temperature trends because this week we have got a pretty incredible run of temperatures. these are inland spots that we're looking at here. but still, you consider that we should be kind of upper 50's, maybe 60 degrees. and we're talking about 65 to 67 over the next couple of days. it's going to be a bit of a break from our winter run here. and you can see where we've got the sunshine out there today. and as we zoom out, that has everything to do with the fact that there's high pressure sitting off shore now, what's happening is
12:19 pm
this high pressure has a ridge, right? that's built up over it. so that helps to keep us kind of sunny. and let's that warmth in. but then we also have low pressure hanging out in southern california and that creates a wind graham because you've got clockwise circulation here, counter clockwise circulation here. so those 2 come together and the wind gets driven between them from the north and the northeast. and that's why we get offshore wind. so over the next few days, you can see what's going to happen here. that wind gradient will start to release as low pressure starts to move away. so that means the wind starts to go down. but the high-pressure hangs so that's why we have the warm temperatures and the sunshine as we head through the rest of this week. and frankly, also why we don't have rain in the forecast right now. not in the next 7, 8, even 9 days. so what it means is that the coast will start to warm up in ways that usually doesn't write because of that offshore winds. you're taking a live look now at half moon bay. and it means that these temperatures are going to be well above average right now, half moon bay at this hour is already at 64 miles per hour at 64 degrees. and you can see the wind is at 16
12:20 pm
miles per hour. that's that offshore wind helping to drive some of that warmth. going to go now live to press conference. send it back to justine. thank we'll get back to the weather in a moment. but now to the el dorado county district attorneys office where they are releasing what they're saying. >> a major update in the american nightmare case that has now revealed some additional crimes that are dating back decades. let's go live now to that press conference. listen in to the new charges against matthew mueller. >> when it actually this is a case that's properly characterizes the american nightmare. people in there's their ultimate sanctuary alone in their home being woken up in the middle of the night. >> why an intruder who is exceptionally intelligent exceptionally well educated and exceptionally practiced in the art of sneaking into people's houses in care, rising them. so again, i would encourage you refer to it that way. and please stop using of the gone girl terminology. as
12:21 pm
you all know, last week charges were filed in santa clara county yesterday. additional charges for home invasion took place contra costa county. the reason why we're here today, i said about 10 months ago, nick gorgeous, who had met with denise and aaron and misty caruso and pronouncer right in eye and >> they were after 9 years, persistent that there was more to this case. that mister matt moeller had committed more crimes perhaps who worked with others in the commission of those crimes. as a result of their peers, persistence refer to let that the chief speak in just a moment. but the chief initiated essentially a letter
12:22 pm
writing effort to mr. mueller seeking to engage him. you know, listen to some information. but because his efforts, there was a presentation in march of last year that i attended as well as one in may of last year up in south lake tahoe, that denise aaron and misty and she forges. also all spoke at. >> we're going to take a quick break here on kron for news at noon and come back and listen to the chief. talk about the new charges againand we're gonn
12:23 pm
12:24 pm
12:25 pm
some new information information now about the american nightmare case. let's go right now to this press conference because the chief is talking about that new charges against matthew mueller. that date back decades. >> and i think with some of the new announcements that you guys have seen in the past week or so. they are definitely exonerated. bre were, but now they're even more so exonerated. and who would have thought that their story would lead them? not only to be exonerated, but to actually be heroes. i played a very small role here. >> but at the end of the day, it was denise and aaron, it the flame that started so many things in motion. they want answers in their case and things are being looked at again. the message that we really have is this is what law enforcement and survivors working together. looks like this is what this looks like. i encourage this all up and down the united states of
12:26 pm
america listening working with victims and survivors following evidence. this is not to make anyone look bad. this is a positive day for everyone. i want to thank vern pierson for his involvement. he's been incredible in working with them and working with others to try to find justice and answers and resolution. so with that, i'd like to pass over to miss you. see a few words. thank you. >> good afternoon, everyone. i just want to thank everybody for being here today. and i really excited that justice will be served to those victims and it does take a collaborative effort to work with agencies and the justice system to make sure that violent criminals never set foot on our streets again and we can protect our communities. i was trying not to get emotional today. so
12:27 pm
thank you. chief. i don't have much else to say except victim awareness. israel. implore everybody to be kinder to make sure that the information that we are putting out there is correct that mistakes don't made again like this? we can be a better society by just doing the right thing all of the time. and i for everybody to do the same thing. >> so with that, i'm going over to nice in here. >> i >> think the most important thing today that these new charges, these new cases recognizing the significance of the timing of it. mueller was 16 years old when he
12:28 pm
attacked his first victims. and he was 38 years old. by the time he got to us. that's 2 decades of this mindset that he was living in the time our case came about the found storage units full of equipment to help him facilitate terrorizing people. it's something that he's crafted and perfected over a long period of time. and then now to find out 2 weeks after our kidnapping, he attacked again. and that was 2 days in captivity of hif telling me he was remorseful i don't deserve this, but i'm going to be suffering from for a long time to come before you released me from the car. he said seeing what this did to you. he's changed me. i'm done. i'm never doing this again. and just 2 weeks later, he attacked another family. and then weeks after that attacked another family, this man had all the serial markers we had
12:29 pm
all the markers of a serial predator. and it's unfortunate that it's taken this long to be able to really give some better clarity and hopefully some sense of peace to these other victims. i really believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg and that there's probably more to be learned in found which is why, again, we're so grateful to have found team in law enforcement. who respects s who values asked victims. >> and it is willing to work with us and collaborate with us. we're hoping that this can be a really positive example of this is how policing conviva somehow investigations can be he handled. we're really hoping that there can be a shift in the u.s. in the future. this >> can be and should be a really good learning opportunity. there anything else you'd like?
12:30 pm
>> sure. well, and we'll answer you will at temp to answer a few questions at this point. i do think i'm going to add to my comments and one of her you slide over. thank you so really to echo some of what's been said. >> all too often when something like this happens when you know what are so obviously mistakes that took place in the initial phase of that investigation after home invasion in the abduction to focus on the negative. but the truth is this is much more about positive changes, positive changes in the way law enforcement training is now done in the here in the state california. in terms of interviewing positive changes in the the positive work from the standpoint of multitude law enforcement. people in the press release at the very end, there's a listing of all the different agencies who contributed to this. you know,
12:31 pm
i can tell despite everything that's happened. >> my working with the fbi over the last several months. >> up to and including trip with the team down to tucson to do an actual full comprehensive interview. mister mueller with interviewer who's probably one of the 2 or 3 best interviewers and the entire world participating that in the information that came out of it, including fast forward it. frankly, a somewhat crazy story one my lieutenant and standing back here, kohl's, a detective from contra costa in tells him the story about a guy hiking 2 miles carrying a ladder so we can climb in them. in the middle of the night and the detectives from contra costa stop what they were doing and hunted around in the middle of the night until they found the location of the ladder, which is it's a is a very unusual frankly,
12:32 pm
crazy set of facts in in in this. but investigations lead us where they and the truth of it is it's been alluded to when when law enforcement is open-minded, follow the evidence that's presented positive things can happen. do we know today that we know, you know, the total of 6 cases that i mentioned, too, that that's the sum total of the crimes mueller has committed. i frankly, honestly doubt it, but i don't know definitively. i know those are the ones that we know at this point. so with that, we're happy to answer a few questions >> eat. >> we cannot tell you any specific details about that case because the investigation is ongoing. it is something that was a discussed with him at length independently investigated and verified that that did in fact occur.
12:33 pm
>> i knew it when make that leap interest help over here. >> she forges after the american nightmare series came out. he sent us a message on instagram for police department and it. i mean, at first was a shock to see seaside police department and i what is this going to be? by he just said, you know, i want you to know that there's people in law enforcement who believe in you who are standing with you. >> that we don't think that this is acceptable, how this was handled. we want to support you. you know, he's the chief of police charge potentially making changes. and he already has made it kind of changes, which is to his credit and many offered. you know, i feel like this is could could be a really good learning opportunity for law
12:34 pm
enforcement. we'd love to host for you to come speak to a group of officers and we jumped on the opportunity because that's something that we've always wanted to do is to work with law enforcement. and we always felt kind of ostracized and and treated as something difficult thing to deal with. and so it was i mean, words can't describe what it feels like to to feel supported in that way. >> i think it's also important. followed up with action. all right. so all 3 knees, people follow it up with action and they have gone above and beyond what they need to do and brings trust and as dennis edward. internally grateful to meet them and to work with them and changes your perspective is we know that our experience, although not unique. other people, experience that is not
12:35 pm
singular. so there are other options out there in need. think it's time that we now have got there. >> what it was like you. later you know, is honoring. we would like to get it. >> all right. in the sky. bullets like beginning, you. or terrorize going through the worst experience of her life. and the people you go to for help turn on you. and then society turns on you and social media turns on you and you have nowhere to go. and if wasn't for. together and was up our family and i don't know. where would we hurt her and our attorneys believed in us. yeah. >> so hopefully people don't understand what it's like team in to get out of that hole is.
12:36 pm
to have narrative changes almost impossible. i mean, is taking us. years of writing a book right during that experience, countless articles and people still question. a once that. comparable tattoos on, you know, it's almost impossible to to get rid of it. but we'll keep trying. >> your mind, go there get bit of our crime. with suspect in town. in your mind, go there to turn about that. path >> and your mind, wanders of all the possibilities of everything that something like this, something so unbelievable and extreme. traumatizing and at the same time, i know that there's a
12:37 pm
lot that's changed and and how we seeing in investigations or dine in the past. 2 decades or more, don't know the specifics of it. so i you know, i don't know. >> as far as our 2015 case, i don't know if that had i can tell you if investigators he's interviewing techniques that the person is advocate for and then i think our case went unsolved don't forget that the kidnappers were e-mailing me calling my phone. while the police are telling me or denise and instead of tracking those phone calls to set following where the evidence lead, they decided to turn my phone airplane mode. and so i'm confident the the 2 other cases after hours should have been prevented. women prevented if they had gone the route of sites base, your view techniques at pearson's advocating for. >> reflecting to 6 feet. there
12:38 pm
day? >> that they're denise and aaron huskins of a skinny denise huskins. and aaron quinn, they denise, the victim of matthew mueller from 2015 during a home invasion and kidnapping and ransom case. at the time vallejo police did not believe them and they were learning now that there might be at least according to the officials there, 6 other cases against matthew mueller. they did take some sort of swipes at the mistakes made by the vallejo police department and now have taken this as a learning opportunity for other police departments, which is why there with the city of seaside. they're with these 6 other cases. we're learning that they may have started as early as 1993 when mueller was just 16 years old. that case still under investigation. and then there are 2 other home invasions from 2009 and this
12:39 pm
2015 case. some have happened here in the bay area. so there's a lot of new details we've been getting from this. we'll have full update for you coming up on our website. kron 4 dot com and also on 2 3 o'clock this afternoon. but for now, we're going to go to some other major breaking news we're following out of the pacific palisades area of los angeles where people who are live there are now being told to leave their homes. you can see why there's a fast-moving wildfire. this is a live look now. this started around 10, 30 this quickly grew to about 200 acres. we can see the ayres support they're getting now to try to put this fire out. los angeles dealing with extremely high winds right now. that's likely fueling this fire. and kyle have an update on this when we come back. back now to more
12:40 pm
12:41 pm
12:42 pm
breaking news we're following here at noon live. look here at the pacific palisades out of los angeles. people are being told not to leave because of this fast-moving fire. we could see the flames and the smoke here. started about 10, 30 this morning. so it's an burning for about 2 hours. it's already at 200 acres. los angeles dealing with extremely high winds. and we're going to turn now to cuyler grogan. she's been watching this and cuyler. this is just going to go from bad to worse. well, i don't know that that's going to go from bad to worse. i can tell you the conditions are not good. they are experiencing what we're experiencing, which is offshore wind. they call them. >> santa ana winds, we call them diablo winds. the same effect of that wind that is rushing offshore. now we are under this wind advisory that goes through today into tomorrow morning. but as we zoom out here, you can see that the wind advisories go throughout the state and then you get southern california. they're under a red-flag warning. we talked about this a bit yesterday. the problem
12:43 pm
here is they have not gotten the rain that we have gotten. so they have all of the dry brush that is out there. think of that at the end of the summer, how dry it is. and then it's been added to the fact that they haven't gotten any rain. so if we look at rain totals and i was looking this up downtown san francisco so far as gun, 10.3, 9 inches of rain downtown los angeles, which should have gotten about 4 and a half inches of rain between october first and now he's gotten 16, 100's of rain. they are bone dry. and i have to double check with the national weather service to see if that was correct. because when i looked it up, i thought you've got to be kidding me. so that is why their danger is so elevated today. now you can see this wildfire danger map kind of showing you how it intensifies as we get throughout the day today, we get into the heat of the day and then that kind of ramps and for southern california will start to move into parts of the southwest. but the point is to say that they are in very dire straits right now. and the fact that we have that 200 acre fire in a very populated area. this is just north of santa monica. if you're familiar with southern california, i did weather down
12:44 pm
there and can tell you it's a beautiful area. unfortunately, 200 acres in that area means a whole lot of people are being affected right now and they are under mandatory evacuations. so we'll be keeping an eye on that. and as i said to the weather service kallos chatting with this morning, you know, our hearts go out to you. we know how this feels so to, you know, think good thoughts for friends in southern california. and breaking news. we're also watching now. this is a live look at washington, d.c., that is the casket carrying. >> president jimmy carter. he is just arrived now at the navy memorial. he will lie in state at the u.s. capitol members of congress will pay their respects later this afternoon.

12:48 pm
as the team cleaned out their lockers. >> we've stepped into the new year and in some ways a new feeling around here at levi's as the niners have not missed. the playoffs is back in 2020 as they find themselves back in that same position here in the 2024 season, many of the guys came in to clean out their lockers and say goodbye, some of them possibly for the last time. we also spoke to a few guys. they tell us what they plan to do in the off-season and how they plan to prepare for next season. >> like it too much because we played yesterday, but i will say that i'm pretty sure we had like i have no idea the numbers, but i feel like we had 20 turnovers and then didn't get any turnovers. so turned ball over that much and you're not scored in the red zone. you're not getting turnovers tournament football when you have a lot of success for a couple years in a row and then you kind you get humbled quick. it's it's a good reminder of what it takes to to be good in this league. >> not that we needed a reminder, i'm just excited for the offseason to get everybody a little bit of get healthy

again come back. ready to go with full year in front of why, you know, you got to take some time so fundamental. and then, you know, they do. you just get back to work. >> as you can hear in many of their voices, disappointment is echoed around the locker room. all of them pointing towards next season as they get to take some time off wrist, recover and reflect on this season, trying to find out what they did wrong this season to keep that from happening again next season. aaron wilson at levi's. we're taking a live look outside here the city of san francisco. lots of sun out there today. meteorologist kyla grogan in the weather center now with details. yeah, there it is. a beautiful day. no doubt about it. lots of sunshine. we certainly had a better morning as far as the sunshine making it in really quick this morning. >> this is our one sticking point. the wind that is picking up, it is offshore wind. so out of the north-northeast, you can see it there rolling 23 miles per hour. and these are sustained winds. so obviyusly gusting higher likely in spots. and
12:50 pm
that's in fairfield. 21 miles per hour in oakland about 12 in san francisco. we're going to see this kind of pick up more as we go throughout the day today. we are under that wind advisory. it does go through 10:00am tomorrow morning. so 20 to 30 mile per hour sustained winds that we're already starting to see in spots gusting up to 40, even 50 miles per hour. so it's possible that we see a few power outages. certainly possible things start blowing around. tree limbs can come down and that type of things. want to be prepared for this as we look for your future cast here, you see where these numbers just kind of keep going up and that offshore wind roles that is this evening into the overnight. i think that may be where we see some of the gustiest wind in spots here and then finally tomorrow as we were going to the afternoon, we'll start to see that wind ramp down and that will be the end of this wind event. also looking out for this. well, that's coming in the north-northwest swell. and so far it hasn't really materialized a whole lot. so i'm happy to say that we're just at wave heights about 8 feet. but the big risk with this israeli sneaker waves. so you've got to be careful if you're going to be near the coast. and this is until 9
12:51 pm
o'clock tonight. so if you can avoid the coast today, that would probably be your best bet if you must be out there. you want to make sure you never turn your back on the ocean. very important. meanwhile, though, it is not only pretty today and warm today, but once we kick the wind tomorrow, we've got really nice weather coming our way. take a look at some of these temperatures are at 66 in san jose. 68 in oakland, 63 in san francisco, but head up to the north bay. we just hit 71 in petaluma 70 degrees in nevada. when you consider we should be more upper 50's this time of year obviously well, above average blue skies as you can see. and as we zoom out, you can see that high pressure sitting right off the coast and that is was allowing pardon me to warm up a bit and see so much of that sunshine, windy today. things get better tomorrow but warm as we go through the next few days. the weekend looking sunny, but cooler but still no rain in the forecast. really nice. 7 days. all right, brent, what police say 2 suspected golf cart thieves did not get very far over the weekend when a police operate a drone quickly

tracked them down. officers were called out to a neighborhood on. >> somerset drive and officers quickly deployed a drone to help find the suspects. and 2 men later found and then arrested the golf carts have been recovered. also the san francisco bay ferry has announced a 16% ridership game from the year 2024. during the course of the year. the ferry shuttled about 2.6 million passengers across the bay. average, the daily ridership was about 7,000 passengers and that represents a recovery of 90% of pre-pandemic levels. the service also launched 3 pilot routes caring about 55,000 passengers last year. still ahead here at noon. >> the c e s conference kicking off in las vegas. how this little penguin year is trying to help people a fall asleep.
