7:03 am
>> major ones that have chewed through thousands of acres this morning in los angeles county. and you're looking at those. there is the sylmar fire that's called her in sylmar about 500 acres that broke out last night at 10, 30, the tamarac fire broke out in sun valley. but again of the big fires, the palisades fire has burned nearly 3,000 acres. that's the biggest one so far. it broke out at 10, 30 yesterday morning. yeah. then the fire and altadena which is called the eat and fires other major fire to that one broke out at 6.30. >> last night it since grown to more than 2000 acres in size. firefighters are worried that they already devastating situation is expected to get worse because of strong winds. more than 50,000 people evacuated so far. yeah. and we have been following our sister station ktla and the news that they have fresh off. >> and in newsroom this morning is that there have been several people but the good news is that, you know, the thousands of people have

evacuation order. please leave this causing a mass exodus out of the area with some people having to abandon their cars to run to safety. crews had to use a bulldozer to move the cars out of the way for firefighters, their families up their their pets up there. there are people who really need help. actor steve guttenberg lives in the area. he jumped into action, moving cars and helping others evacuate course. you know, we've got a huge fire up there. we've got huge winds right now. it's really important for people to help each other. we still don't know the exact number of homes that have been destroyed. but video shows several swallowed by flames. theirs definitely houses it engulfed. so there's fire in a lot of multiple areas from the embers, i suppose before declaring a state of emergency. governor gavin newsom visited the fire zone and saw firsthand. >> the impact of the swirling winds and embers and the number of structures that are destroyed, not a few many structures already destroyed

bit. but there are still concerns because we do have high wind warning. and in fairfield, you can see what happened. a small fire vegetation fire broke off out yesterday off of green valley road. you can see that firefighters got a quick and alana to burned about an acre 706, is the time right now. and starting today, the moraga orinda fire district is going to conduct a. >> controlled burn. they're doing this near edgewood drive in orinda starting at 10 o'clock this morning and same time tomorrow, 10:00am another controlled burn. there. they're going to be burning and in the area by the tunnel east bay between wilder and lost valley. they want to do this to reduce the greater wildfire risk and to manage the ecosystem. so if you are in the area and you see smoke, they do know about it. although if you smell smoke, they recommending that if you live in that area, you keep your windows and doors closed. >> all right. happening this morning, san francisco will be welcoming a new mayor. daniel

to la. let's get back to southern california. you're looking at a live shot of coming to us from a neighborhood. >> where there's a huge firefighter response here. this one looks like there's plenty of smoke, but we don't see the flames. we already know that this fire in altadena has shoes through more than 2000 acres and destroyed many homes is not contained at all. and this is the story with firefighters going door-to-door. we've seen a lot of them just sort putting their hoses wedding down. you know, the tops of roofs that are already on fire. in fact, you can see this one on the right hand side is aglow coming from that house. lot of people at no choice but to just watch their homes go up in flames and just be happy. they get out. if you look at the 3 biggest fires burning a total of 50,000 plus, people have flee their homes right now. >> so we also have a look at the cal fire map here. our banner at the bottom blocking one of there's an icon down there as well showing fire there and scattered throughout
7:33 am
the whole laarea. and that's kind of what firefighters are dealing with, the largest burning right now is in paciic palisades that's in west la county that was burned nearly 3,000 acres. so far this talked about the fact that there's power outages a lot of people had to leave their cars in the middle of the road. gridlock trying to get out. >> schools are canceled in the la area. a lot of districts canceled with the kids, you know, not able to go into their neighborhoods. we've got the latest from news nation say they want. >> you could see the flames behind and i can really fill in their intense. and here's the other thing with the winds being so powerful near hurricane force. you see all the embers blowing. we've been here now for about 20 minutes. this house behind was on fire. the embers blew up to this home over here. and now this home is on fire to give everybody at home a little perspective. this area has never seen anything quite like this. this is unprecedented. we're only a couple miles away from the beach. these homes,
7:34 am
multi million dollar homes and each of them that we have seen so far completely reduced rubble. i mean, just take a look around. this is what it looks like. just giving everyone an idea at home what it looks like. you see how strong the winds picking up the embers. that's why it is so concerning. because it's going from home. and we're taking a step closer because i mean, just look at how massive those flames are. >> i mean, we've been through several neighborhoods already. we started about 02:00am. >> local time we're going from neighborhood to neighborhood cars, completely charred homes, completely charred. thick smoke everywhere, blowing. we had to put on the goggles and then every once in a while, you just hear a loud bang, it's almost like an explosion. you don't know really what it is or where it came from. and then all around. you can kind of see just the aglow. it's like at
7:35 am
the end of a campfire, right? you're getting ready to be out of the fire. and then all the sudden you see a glow. that's kind of like what it in the surrounding area here in palisades. the only people we have seen so far. >> first responders, obviously this is an evacuation zone. >> first responders. >> media and that's it. i'm a little worried here because here's why. officials say it's only getting worse. >> and for the state senator who represents the area where the eaton fire is burning. this is hitting close to home state senator sasha, rene perez tells our a town wallace that her loved ones had to evacuate their homes because of the fast moving fire. >> it's a very scary, very surreal moment. my aunts, my brother, my cousins, you know, all live in sierra madre and and have all had to evacuate more than anything. i just want folks to know, you know, if you're receiving an

evacuation warning to take that very seriously and and to prepare to evacuate. >> perez says that she and her family are safe. now and she has been up all night on the phone with senior officials cal fire from cal oes and the governor's office to help coordinate state resources and assistance for her district. >> well, meantime, here closer to home, we've got mayor london breed reflecting on her time in office in an interview with kron 4, we asked if she thought there was anything unfinished that needed to be done before she left. and here's what she had to say. >> ayres, they come and go and ultimately the decisions we make have a lasting impact in. i think there's always going to be a feeling of being unfinished. but my hope is that those types of things will get finished. but as soon as they get finishes on to the next thing, they'll be something else to do. but that's what makes san francisco great city. we're always looking for the possibility of making something better.
7:37 am
>> well, mayor breed plans to be at lori's inauguration later today. meanwhile, a san francisco police department is no longer under state oversight. the eight-year long supervision from the california department of justice began back in 2018 when it was found that the sfpd had outdated use-of-force policies and lacked accountability. according to the report the police department has implemented 263 of the 272 reforms that were outlined the remaining 9 reforms are in progress. >> it's 7.36, and the woman who was kidnapped and raped in a notorious case out of a in 2015 is now speaking out. and this follows news that her attacker is facing new charges. crump charles clifford has the story. >> well, here in seaside on tuesday, denise huskins quinn and her husband, aaron quinn, are reacting to news that their attacker, matthew mueller, is facing additional charges. 47 year-old matthew mueller, who is serving a 40 year prison sentence for kidnapping and denise huskins in 2015 has been accused of
