>> is at 6. >> it does. it's that. >> now at 6, several wildfires, some of them deadly now ripping through los angeles county tonight, leaving homes, businesses, cars, livelihoods, destroyed. absolutely devastating images coming out of southern california tonight. a total of 5 fires now burning in all of la county. right now, the 2 biggest ones that the crews are battling the palisades fire in the eaton fire. >> at least 5 people have died in the eden fire. that's burning more than 10,000 acres. it's burned that near

pasadena and altadena nearly 70,000 people have been ordered to get out and then there's the fire that crews have been fighting since late yesterday morning. the palisades fire in pacific palisades that has ballooned to more than 15,000 acres. more than 300 homes and businesses have been destroyed. there you have. doesn't stop there. the palisades fire in the eaton fire. >> are 2 of 5 total wildfires that are burning all over la county. the lady of fire is the only one that has any kind of containment at 30%. our first and kerman has been following. the blaze is for us. he joins us now live from the newsroom with the very latest. were just a devastating day for people in many of these areas. these communities are basically destroyed. imagine. >> living in a home for 40 years, raising your kids there and with a moment's notice, you've got to collect all that precious items that you had to get out. only the next day to come back or hear from someone else that your home and your entire neighborhood has been destroyed.

>> wednesday evening, fires continue to burn along the pacific coast highway in santa monica and malibu up the hill. much of pacific palisades has been destroyed and what hasn't been continues to be threatened. this incident is very, very dynamic as we speak. the good news, the winds have subsided a bit enough to allow are fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft to provide critical. >> support. to this fire more than 1000 structures have been destroyed so far. and that number. >> is expected to climb. i think the house is gone, but i just want to make you know, just i just want to see for myself. residents took electric bikes to make their way up. smoky hills. what they found were neighborhoods burned to rubble. go, go, go, go, go go. one group of hikers got caught off guard and had to run for their lives as we got to the bottom of the rock, we started hear the fire crackled like rate behind us. >> and the wind was starting to pick up really fast and

like to be, we got her things and completely booked as fast as we like. yeah, it was. it was terrifying to like feel like running for your life. others who evacuated tuesday weren't sure they were going to make it gridlock. >> and there's no police at all doing traffic management. so people are because thought we were going to burn up because we had fire going over our heads. the eaton fire just north of pasadena and altadena is also continuing to wreak havoc. >> i went by the residential streets, evanston northwest, out that, you know, where i went to school at soggy mess. all. almost everything is going down, especially in the northwest area right now. it's very some haven't made it back home to find out if they have a home. >> but they're expecting the worst. we pretty much can assume that it's gone. and it is agonizing. >> it's the 3rd time that had to evacuate for fires. first time. then it's gone this way.

excess water demand is also made some fire hydrants run dry, making firefighters efforts all the more difficult. again at this point. at least 5 people are dead more than 1000 structures have been destroyed in both the palisades fire, which is that more than 5,000 acres in the eaton fire, which is now at more than 10,000 acres. well, both of those are at 0 containment and to make matters worth. cal fire says extreme fire behavior could continue through thursday. live in the newsroom. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> thank you, dan. and some breaking news we're just getting in adding insult to injury. another fire, a brand new one has just started in southern california. this is a live look from above. you can see it is formidable. this is burning in the hollywood hills. this is now the 6th fire that la county is dealing with. we don't know exactly how big this fire is or if there are any evacuations. but

you have to figure there are evacuations. and just from watching this on you live feeds and the internet, it has grown quickly. fortunately, the wind isn't what it was, but certainly it is still fanning the flames and the real issue, vicki, here is who do you have to go fight this fire? yeah, at this point. well, pulliam for from all over back to fire crews. >> from here even in the bay area and all over the country. western states are sending a fire crews heading down to give these folks a helping hand. it it is really tough, but they're helping the put those fires force. gayle ong joins us live in the studio with more on the collective effort to get these fires out. gayle. >> yeah, as you can see, los angeles firefighters stretched and several crews from the bay area. >> are already on the ground or andrew to southern california to help battle the wildfires there. is all part of a mutual aid program with the state.

>> firefighters from san francisco. alameda county. if you santa clara county heading to los angeles to help battle the fast-moving fires forcing thousands of residents to evacuate thoughts go out to. >> everyone southern california and what is really a, you know, a devastating weather event we're sending as many resources as we can to help acting fire chief bill murphy with the santa clara county fire department says. >> 40 firefighters across the county have been mobilized. may get there. there. >> incorporated immediately into the incident action plan assigned to an area the fire to assist with the firefight. strong, gusty offshore winds infamously known as the santa ana winds in southern california. >> mixed with dry conditions have been fueling the wildfires. when we see that the winds are 50, 60, 70 miles an hour. >> that's going to dictate where the fire is going to do.

>> lieutenant mariano, elias with the san francisco fire department. got the call for help. wednesday morning. we're all humans. so it you feel from the what the people are going to. and, you know, even animals affected. >> it just it expands a lot from there. so it hurts santa rosa fire fighters left in the afternoon. so southern california, 6 print fees in the past just like we had up here in santa rosa. you know, those those kind of fires develop really quick once they get down into some of those neighborhoods as devastating images continue to come out of southern california. santa rosa fire inspector will powers gives this message. always be prepared. have your go bag. ready to go? no. the ready set. go, you know, pull it out. go over year. >> your emergency evacuation checklist, stuff like that. we are in january. we see what's happening in southern california. lucky for us, you know, our wind event and transpire. but then we've had a lot of rain over the last couple weeks. that kind of, you know, is better for us up here to kind of keep us out of that danger. but stuff like this could happen anytime of the year.

>> and the national weather with los angeles says that this is one of the driest periods they've seen since the 1960's. the winds are expected to ease tonight, but red-flag conditions do remain through at least friday. meantime, our bay area firefighters could remain out there for at least 2 weeks in the studio. gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> it's horrific winds. it's horrific fire, but there's also the smoke. that's a big factor. you saw lot of those live shots of people running around with that, you know, face masks and with goggles because it is really terrible conditions. take a look at this. here's the surface. smoke product and it shows you their high very, very, very high concentrations particulate matter and terrible surface smoke. look at the colors, the oranges and reds and even closer to the magenta is and then we go. i pull out a little bit. you see that smoke plume going all the way down the coast of mexico, the western coast, and then

taking a live around and sort of circling back. it's just. horrible conditions. my heart goes out to anybody who's down there. the high wind warnings, the red flag advisories remain in effect until at least 6 o'clock friday. and that's for los angeles and ventura counties. there's also a red flag warning just was allowed to expire for parts of santa barbara county for terrible winds. and the winds will again, although they they're not they haven't died down, but they will strengthen again tomorrow into friday. so we will see isolated gusts on the highest peaks to maybe 70 miles per hour wind and the wind swell as high pressure and low pressure there, close together. high pressure. we've got the clockwise circulation and then with low-pressure grt the counter clockwise circulation. they meet in the middle of just serves to strengthen these winds, which is what is driving these terrible winds. i've got more to talk about coming up right now. back to the grant. it yet another fire has sparked this

one up in the hollywood hills. there are evacuation orders out. this is the fire we told you about a couple minutes ago. but it is quick moving. >> and it is virtually brand-new. it started within the hour estimated to be 10 acres. it's right near the runyon canyon area. if you're familiar with that part of la evacuation orders have been given for laurel canyon boulevard on the west to the hole and drive on the north to the 101 on the east down to hollywood boulevard to the south. so disastrous situation considering everything else that is going on around this fire in southern california. so many homes in that area and obviously you just have a a fire fighter, you know, for certain to spread relief. and yeah, they're saying it's 10 acres or so. but look at this.

community and business leaders to endorse lee's candidacy. he believes lee can help balance oakland's budget and restore recently shuttered fire stations. no one should should wait longer than they absolutely have to. for the that they are. >> calling out for. >> and a tiny enters the race as the most high-profile candidate for the special election scheduled april 15th, philippe djegal, all kron. 4 news. >> developing news in the north bay tonight where 4 people have been found dead in santa rosa. they were found just after 3 o'clock this afternoon at a home on monarch court. no word yet on a cause of death. but police are investigating it as a homicide kron four's. lindsey ford is headed there and we'll have a full report tonight on kron. 4 news at 10 and 11. and the east bay. no charges will be filed in a shooting that killed a man in orinda last year. neighbors who heard it happens say they believe it was a situation of road rage. the shooting was in september

on las vegas road and lot sprawl way. deputies say 50 year-old scott decker died at the scene. they didn't give a lot of info about what happened. but neighbors tell us they heard yelling, tires, screeching and what sounded like gunshots. deputies detained. the other person involved. but release them shortly after kron, 4 sources confirmed no charges will be filed in the case. we reached out to the contra costa county sheriff's office for more info and have not heard back. all right, taking a live look outside here at san francisco. big data city hall, which is all lit up in yellow and we have a new mayor. >> partying down in chinatown. nice. nice night. they have a night market hike out it's the perfect night to the outside the san francisco weather is welcoming its brand-new san francisco mayor. what a beautiful evening with temperatures. well above normal, the winds have died down a little bit. so it's a perfect night to celebrate.

and that's what we should do. we're very fortunate in terms of the weather because all right, well, that we've had offshore gusts of winds and they continue its nothing. nothing dramatic compared to what they're seeing down in southern california. this is the view. this is the gift that keeps giving live shot from berkeley hills, looking toward the golden gate after sunset clear as a bell, beautiful conditions. and here are today's high temperatures. the observed ties they just happened and there is many as 10 degrees warmer than normal. you can see the normal numbers. 57 normal in santa rosa. 67 today in santa rosa. you know, he's numbers are cooler than yesterday. yesterday, santa rosa hit a record high of 72 degrees was a record for the date and now lot cooler in some spots down 5 degrees in santa rosa down 7 in san francisco down 6 degrees in livermore. so we're cooling off a little bit. and yet we're still way above normal temperatures right now. cooling down quite nicely. some areas well into the 50's.

>> california's homeless population remains the biggest in the nation. but new federal data. it shows the crisis is growing more slowly here than in most of the rest of the country. the department of housing and urban development's numbers show that it's gone up more than 3% last year compared to 2023, two-thirds of california's homeless residents sleep outside, which is the highest percentage in the country. the data also shows the number of young californians who were homeless without apparent or guardian fell more than 10% last year. shark tank investor kevin o'leary also known as mister wonderful, says that he is partnering with billionaire frank mccourt to buy tiktok the social media giant is facing a potential ban here in the u.s. of us not sold by its chinese based company bytedance january 19th. the larry says that they're going to need president elect
